She and Belinda had the most tragic storyline out of the whole cast. Her story crushed me and I am a bit sad to see people write her problems off and invalidate her as if "she should have known." To me, her whole point is that money is not the only love language she values. Yes, she appreciates the treats that come with luxury - there probably was some hedonistic delight in indulging in the treats of her husband but at the same time, she wanted to still know she is capable of simultaneously chasing her own dreams. Her ask was not that big. She was thinking of taking on a job she thought could advance her (yes even if she has qualms about it). Why couldn't that co-exist? What exactly was it taking away from Shane? It wasn't like Shane had a whole week filled with plans and that they'd be ruined - he was just having food, reading and swimming. Shane pressured her saying that it's their honeymoon and then used money to encourage her to let the dream go.

Thank you! It's really bizarre and kind of horrifying to me to see people acting like Rachel's problems are trivial or like Shane is the victim here. She's realizing that the man she loves isn't who she thought he was. She's realizing that he doesn't really respect her. That is not the WORST problem in the world, but it is still very much a real problem. Anyone would be upset if that happened to them!

Well, I think she did what most of us would do...
We keep pushing on when the going gets tough and when we are down on our knees because we have no choice, she doesn't have the no option option, she has a way out.
It's the human instinct to run away from adversity, it's how our ancestors survived. She's normal, not a masochist or self sabotagging in any way...
But she became acutely aware of what she's become during this trip, and she's not happy about it, but what's the alternative? Uncertainty and destitution...
Shane loves her, he's not perfect (For sure) but he did make her the center of his whole life, as long as she remains an obedient wifey who doesn't do a lot of thinking 😂😅 or so he thought...
He was hoping she'd be unapologetically vapid and in complete denial of it, or at least so self centered she'd come to terms with it at some point.
Welps, she's not. Did they live happily ever after? I don't know, that's the show for you though.
      You're gonna think about it.
Also, love that Shane is also young and hot, they could have dumbed this down and made him old or unattractive, but he's not...
And that also gets you thinking, because he's young and hot, but still wants a trophy wife.

To be honest, Rachel is also at fault with her whole "I wanna make a difference" thing. Her desire to make an impact is great, but it is also stemming from a bit of self-centeredness and impracticality. She could have used her newfound wealth to be someone influential, to make a difference. Shane's mom telling her she could just manage the board for fundraising and stuff is a really powerful position to create real tangible change. I bet she could even ask them for her own business and they will give it to her. Her fear of being a mere trophy wife doesnt have to happen, because her husband will allow her to do what she wants (as much of a jerk Shane is, he seems willing to do everything for his wife). Tons of people want to help the world but are caught up with their jobs and chores and worries, but she had an opportunity to have the resources, connections, and time to do just that. But instead of seeing that, she saw it as "I will eitjer just be an arm candy or I get out". No, girl, there is a way you all can win in this.
I think that is why Belinda left her during her rant. Belinda was like, "Really? Thats your problem? I also wanna help people, have my own thing, but I cant because I never had a shot. You have that shot now, and you are whining?"
This kinda tells me that she doesnt really want to make the world a better place, she just wants the feelings that come with it. To have a purpose, to be relevant, which is very understandable and sooo much better than Shane's own focus to his own enjoyment. And she could get all that, again, if she only could stop her pity party.

It's crazy that she complains about being a potential trophy wife while not considering how all the money Shane has can greatly help her in her career. She is really complaining about a non-issue. Billions of people would kill to be in her place and use that money to go forward. Rachel is really not thinking about the bigger picture here, at all.
Also she complains to Shane about him not caring about her enough, but does she care about him?
She doesn't side with him during the suite reservation argument and tells him to drop it when it's clear he's in the right and is actively being cheated by the hotel.
Also, Rachel is quite a boring person. Instead of talking to her husband, she prefers to stare silently at nothing (and especially after the mom arrives). She cares more about an article she has to write, instead of the honeymoon. She complains to Shane that all he cares about is sex, but what more does she really offer him?

Shane never once cared about anything that didn’t have to do with him getting what he wants the whole season. He swatted away his wife’s profound identity issues as an annoyance that could be fixed with his money, instead of making an attempt to comprehend her and support her. When she repeatedly expressed that Shane making a big fuss about the room was taking away from them enjoying their honeymoon, he ignored her at every turn, and insisted on his grand gestures to soothe her, when she made it crystal clear that all she needed was companionship to be soothed. He is a brick wall, untouchable behind his entitlement. He was justified in feeling wronged about having the wrong room, but he allowed the problem to grow bigger and bigger by focusing all his energy into getting this one thing, when he could have been connecting with people, and listening to his wife.

@@marianagomes2547 HE is a man, and he is successful, men like this do not want to be disrespected by a hotel manager of all people, the fact that she is with him and married him is because he is a rich successful man, if it bothers him that much, because it would bother most men that much, that is the difference in men and women, and successful men have different things, so she wants to disregard the thing that he has issues with, and wants him to focus on her issues ? she should be a good wife and understand that the successful man she is with, wants this thing, if he instead went like okay, i am gonna be a pussy and take this room i got given, she would not respect him anyway.

@@indusingh2013 the cultural difference here is fascinating. Yes, everything you’re saying is correct, but the audience you’re arguing against is rich white people from the west who put cultural Marxist ideals over pragmatism. So they think the fact that Shane has wealth means that he should allow himself to be cheated in order to inch us one step closer to the Marxist utopia that they believe the world should be where everyone is equally poor.
