    What is a cask strength or barrel proof bourbon that is worth the upgrade for you??

      There is a local Wisconsin Distillery (Driftless Glen) where I always grab the cask strength instead of the standard proof. Just the concentration of flavors and much thicker mouth feel makes it a great experience.

      @@krolson74 That sounds too interesting but I just did a search and it is not available in my area 🥲I'll log it in my list of bourbons to get when (if I ever) I get to visit the Midwest and/or East Coast! Thank you for the comment as I didn't know that existed!

    Good to know on this. I wouldn’t have known or researched the difference in the mashbills. For me it should be the same. I’m not sure why they would add wheat and call it the cask strength version. If these CS version ever hits my stores I’ll share pricing.

    • @WhiskeyBank
      @WhiskeyBank  9 месяцев назад

      Hey Dean! From what I learned, soon they will move away from sourcing their whiskeys to producing everything in house. Due to the popularity of their standard lineup (and probably due to contract they signed with the distillery they source from), they keep that mashbill the same, but with the cask strength version, they include their own whiskeys, which is four grain. In time, both should be the same, but we'll see if that actually happens. Hopefully in time, the cask strength will come down in price as they expand and produce more efficiently. If the cask strength version ever makes it to your area and you get a chance to try it, let me know if you agree or disagree with my review! Thank you for everything and cheers!

    David old boy,
    Nice cork pops !!
    I've been seeing these higher end offerings at Hi-Times and haven't pulled the trigger yet. I was actually leaning towards the Grizzly Beast but now I am sitting on the fence. I do like the Pipe Dream but thinking the Lost Monarch is what I reach for more often. Maybe one day I will have purchased all their products and can decide by my mood.
    I do want to support this California distillery and get the word out that they have a quality product. Plus they have the tree planting program.
    Maybe like you said, they can get to the point of lowering their price on the cask strength offerings.... we can dream, can't we ?
    Less talk, more drinking my friend !

      Hey Dana!! I finally got some good cork pops! It has been like 4 videos since I had a good one 😆 I also wanted this to be good as it is a California distillery and I like the standard lineup and I do like it, but the price increase is a bit too much. I think if I just did the Cask Strength review alone, it would probably be a "hold" as in, try before you buy. Hopefully prices will decrease as time goes by (like you said, we can all dream!). Thank you so much for all your support!! Super appreciated and cheers!

      @WhiskeyBank David, with all due respect, I think price is not an issue, as far as, we are talking about Redwood Empire. $30 vs $90. It is not like Blanton pricing, but much better taste.

    • @WhiskeyBank
      @WhiskeyBank  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@peterpete5848 Hey Peter! My channel is mainly based on "is it worth it" at this price type of rating. So for the reviews on the channel, I have to make a "decision" based on that. But your right, it's not like super secondary pricing as these two can be had (most of the time) at retail pricing, which is fantastic!! I'm glad you enjoy both bottles and love Redwood Empire as I do too!! Trust me, I have had most of their stuff (except the 14 year old or super allocated bottles). I not yet tried any Redwood Empire. the Grizzly Beast might be in my wheel house. I love Bottle In Bonds because I know I am drinking their own distillate, not just another marked up MGP (though MGP can be very good - I just want to taste more variety). The cask strengths intrigued me but maybe I'll opt for the rye instead.

    • @WhiskeyBank
      @WhiskeyBank  10 месяцев назад

      Hey Karl! Welcome back! I think going back to back with the standard didn't do the cask strength justice as the standard is such a good bourbon at $30 price point. I probably need to do a deep dive on just the cask strength alone and see how that goes. But you are correct in that I love trying their produced whiskeys as it should be more unique than just better blends from the same company. I just got the Rocket Top batch 2 so hopefully I will do a review of that soon! Thank you so much for your views and comments!! Super greatly appreciated and cheers!

    I love the standard Redwood. We get it here for 40 dollars. As someone who likes proof I'm sure I'd like the cask more but from what I have seen it is 90 dollars and that just isn't cutting it for me. Enjoy!!

    • @WhiskeyBank
      @WhiskeyBank  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Scott! Welcome back!! $90 seems a little steep for the cask strength as it is a good bourbon, that seems like it has be fantastic and I'm not sure it's that good. I will need to a do a deeper dive into the cask strength alone as maybe how good the standard is at $30 overshadowed the goodness of the cask strength! But both are great bourbons and worth a try! Thanks so much for your views and comments and it is always super appreciated! Cheers!

    Nice review as always David. Redwood Empire Pipe Dream could be a “daily sipper”, similar to Buffalo Trace. I bought the Pipe Dream Cask Strength and I think it is fantastic. Even though I am not big into ryes, I like their Lost Monarch (Bourye). Have not found the Lost Monarch Cask Strength yet. 🥃

      Hey Dave! Hope all is well. I just got the Lost Monarch Cask Strength so I hope to do a review of that very soon! I heard great things about it and so being in California, it is a lot easier to find. The Pipe Dream Cask Strength is a good bourbon and if I did a review it by itself, I would have to do a deep dive to see if it's a buy or a hold at that price, but it's certainly very tasty! Just compared to the $30 value of the regular pipe dream, it wasn't "worth" the upgrade, but you can't go wrong with either one!! Thanks a ton as always for all your support!
