If we can’t have the GR Yaris, then you can’t have the GR Corolla lol But all jokes aside, it is probably because of economics. From what I understand, it will be available in North America, Australia, and Japan, but I can only speak on why Toyota went with the US as opposed to European countries. The volume of car sales in the US is way higher than in most of Europe because public transport isn’t all that accessible for most of the country. Unless you live in a major city, there’s a good chance that the public transit system will be either shit or just nonexistent. Most adults is the US need a car they can drive pretty much every day to get to work or really just go anywhere. Work commutes that are an hour+ long aren’t uncommon, so comfortable, reliable, and relatively inexpensive cars like Toyotas sell like crazy here. Make them fun and fast and it just ups the appeal even more. Bigger market = more money
go for the Yaris GR , almost 500 LBs Lighter , thats a big amount . Power to weight is basically the same but since the yaris is shower , less power loss to the wheels . Also, I think the yaris is actually underrated on paper because toyota didn't want to ruin the upcoming corrolla GR by giving them the same power.
I LOVE it! Now the sting of not having the GR Yaris here in the States does not hurt as much. During the eve of the all-electric future when some car manufacturers have ditched the manual and other manufactures have pull out of the high-performance hot hatch segment all together, Toyota gives us this beauty. WOW! I am all in with that Circuit Edition with its hood vents and carbon fiber roof. Well done, Toyota, well done. This car is going to sell like hot cakes, and this is the kind of car that will make JDM guys out of muscle car guys and super car guys. Sorry Europe but again you did get the GR Yaris. Either way, this is just a big win for car enthusiasts everywhere. If you sit back and just look at how Toyota has been serving the car enthusiasts community while also being a leader in car manufacturing and car selling around the world while at the same time being known for incredible value, reliability and quality, it is really an amazing thing. That also deserves a WOW!
Why isn’t the GR Corolla going to be sold in Europe or the UK? I heard previously that it was because we already have the GR Yaris and the GR Supra, and will get the GR86 in spring.
@@DaveDVideoMaker Another possible reason I heard on Twitter said it was because of emissions and the fact the GR Yaris isn’t sold in the US. Now we know how the Americans felt when they heard the GR Yaris wouldn’t be sold here…
Toyota used to be the king of boring and reliable cars. Their GR variant of their cars proves to us, petrolhead, that toyota won't give up combustion engines anytime soon👀🔥
I mean they've always had stuff like the MR2, Celica, Supra to go along with the Camry, Corolla, Yaris etc. Not all boring. Even things like the Avensis SR were a little better than their dull competitors.
once upon a time toyota was selling the following, and all at the same time: Celica, Celica All-Trac/GT-Four Corolla FX-16 Corolla AE86, then later AE92 and AE111 MR-2 Supra
not gonna happen since the gr86 is a project with subaru. sadly but thats the reality. same with the gr supra. the gr yaris and now the corolla even have a bigger frontbrake than the 3.0 supra :D
The gr86 is probably not gonna see any significant power upgrades from here on out. They only opted to give it another 28 hp. I don’t ever see the gr86 go over 240 hp, since if you want something with more power, Toyota has the supra 2.0, and supra 3.0 if even that’s not enough. Keeping the power down also helps this continue to be an affordable sports car, it would lose its purpose if it was given more power and costs rise. The civic type r has suffered from this, and those who are interested in getting it cannot afford it, and those who can are usually too old to care.
Wonder if the power is also downplayed like in yaris that actually dynos 278hp. This will need to make 320 horsepower to get the same power to weight ratio.
Dear lord... I really want this car. Honestly, toyota is on a roll. The GR Yaris, the GR Corolla, the pick up trucks, the Camry, gt 86... I love it all
What an odd choice to not sell in the UK, a nation of hot-hatch lovers. Look how popular the ST ranges have been over the years... Hyundai now have the N range and that is slowly becoming ever so more popular. It's just strange to be honest, especially given how popular the GR Yaris is.
i was looking for the perfect family car, this Corolla is exactly what i need! ... now i need to explain my wife and kids that choices will have to be made ^^
Really good video till the last few seconds. I appreciate why you didn’t share the lack of UK info til the end, but doesn’t stop me feeling disappointed. They need to bring that over here!
Shame about the noddy stuck on LCD screen though. In the early years of automotive digi-tech, manufacturers DID stick screens on to front facias as if were a bit of an afterthought to the internal architecture. But you'd think after a decade of car evolution, more manufacturers would have have found a better way to integrate the screens into the facias - like Audi and VW do, and Alfa Romeo does on the Stelvio and Giulia. Apart from the old looking facia, the car is a stunning addition. And well done Toyota for investing in the ICE. Next stop - liquid green hydrogen fuel for these great cars. Just like in their hydrogen powered Racing Corolla which completed a 24 hour race at Fuji Raceway last year. Now THAT would be a far better alternative to these ridiculously expensive battery powered cars.
It seems there are people that like the stuck on screen police cruiser look. Many popular manufacturers do it this way. And the more bigger, the more betterer. I don't like it either... but my automotive tastes are strange anyway.
not a fan of tacked on lcd screens either... why they cant be integrated Into the dash and make the whole interior look like a quality made environment is beyond me... who OK's these tacky afterthought designs?

No, don't you dare sell your GR Yaris! But you should definitely buy the GR Corolla, add it to the fleet. Toyota has been holding out on everyone. If they can make a 3 cylinder push 300 horses, then what would be possible with their V8?
That 470 ish hp from their 5 liter V8 is very good already for a naturally aspirated engine. now, if they make an LC F with a turbo V8, that might give M and AMG cars some competition. but Lexus doesn't want that apparently.
We will never know because they dont build V8s like that anymore at Toyota. Next gen yaris GR could have a 1 cylinder engine with 200hp and you guys would still try to defend that shit 💀
@@nik7bkh965 It's the opposite. in the past, a lot of luxury brands make sporty cars with naturally aspirated, pure V8s. Now, they have completely switched to turbos, yet Lexus/Toyota haven't.
Hmm, interesting... With "GRs" in mind, hopefully they actually start selling the GR86 in Ireland and the U.K. soon - it's been available in the U.S. for months! And with mention of the GR86, apparently we won't be able to enjoy it for very long unless things change, as supposedly Toyota can only sell them in Europe until 2024 because of new European roof height/strength regulations! Meanwhile apparently the new BRZ and the new Nizzan Z won't be put on sale in Europe at all, so again, put the GR86 on sale quickly while we can still buy it and cars like it! 😯😀🤘 ... I doubt it... and I'm far more a Toyota fanboy than Honda. The new CTR will tear this thing apart on the track. But the GR Corolla will be more fun to drive.
I mean, 0-60 and drag that sort of stuff it has an edge. But performance as a whole on the track I don't think so until I see some laps from this car. Honda did a masterwork with the CTR and the next 2023 model can be expected to be an even bigger beast.

Also there is always going to be a faster car out there but, this Toyota is easily going to be one of the most fun hot hatches to drive. Performance is decent, crazy for a 3 cylinder. LSD front and rear. Manual gearbox and handbrake. Double wishbone suspension in the rear. And it looks amazing! I'm gutted it won't be sold here. Might import it instead :)
If you're talking about the new M135i, I agree. If you're talking about the older one or the M140i though, that's a hard choice.
Not selling this car in the UK is criminal. Literally the home of hot hatch backs
This car looks bloody gorgeous! As an Audi man, I Never thought a Toyota would look so damn fine!
Looks good but a 3 banger is the dealbreaker...
@@nik7bkh965 the 3 cylinder turbo in the GR Yaris and Corolla sounds better than any engine audi has except the v10. Maybe equal to the 5 cylinder in the TT. Perfect for the car it's in.

I'm so glad you didn't say "click the to see how fast I take the GR yaris from 0-60". Thanks for actually adding it to the video.
I can only assume Toyota think the Yaris and corolla ,if sold in some of the same markets would take sales away from each other ,rather than grabbing sales from the compatition.
@ToxicRakyat you can still buy a GR Yaris brand new theres just a wait for them. I work in sales at toyota
Nope. Has to do with emissions which europe is way more strict
@@jponz85 yes. Even in Singapore also way more restricted.
@@king-gamer7928 yes. Toyota seems to be a king of exporting those cars.
@ToxicRakyat yes.
This whole "not selling in Europe" thing better be an April fools joke
Well, those stupid over the top pollution regulations are certainly responsible.
Considering how strict Europe's emission regulations currently, i guess that's the biggest reason why...
The new Z won't come near Europe and the GR86 will be available for a couple years only
@@AbrahamArthemius yep... The new Civic 11G with the 1.5t is not available either here, only the 1.5 hybrid underpowered cvt, and that's the only available option here for the moment. 😡
@@AbrahamArthemius Europe is still full of disgusting Volkswagen diesels so it's not as strict as we would like
If we can’t have the GR Yaris, then you can’t have the GR Corolla lol
But all jokes aside, it is probably because of economics.
The corolla has aged so well. Still looks as fresh as the day it was released.
Would love it if it came with a 1.8 or 2.0 4 cyl turbo engine. Imagine how easy it would be to tune such engine to 4-500 hp.
Would probably be a lot heavier which isn't really what you want in a hot hatch.
@@nebnollock5198 what do you mean? Hot hatches had 1.8 and 2L 4 cylinders for decades? VW even put V6’s in theirs 🤔
Not necessary at all, Motive Video and Ekanoo racing already push this engine to 500+hp without much sweat, you can check their channel
Most hot hatches are 4 cyl with 2.0 engine, love to see toyota do the same...
@@jtonline99 that wasnt a V6 but a VR6
What a motor. I was after a yaris but missed out when they went on general release. Really hope I can get my hands on this pocket rocket
Bots everywhere.😔
Not coming to the uk
go for the Yaris GR , almost 500 LBs Lighter , thats a big amount . Power to weight is basically the same but since the yaris is shower , less power loss to the wheels . Also, I think the yaris is actually underrated on paper because toyota didn't want to ruin the upcoming corrolla GR by giving them the same power.
U make gamI really loving fun!! 💯💯💯❤❤
I heard previously that it was because we already have the GR Yaris and the GR Supra, and will get the GR86 in spring.
ruclips.net/video/_SaSVi7aYV4/видео.html
But yet they’re gonna be selling the GR Corolla in Japan, where they have the GR Yaris, GR Supra and GR86 already.
@@DaveDVideoMaker Another possible reason I heard on Twitter said it was because of emissions and the fact the GR Yaris isn’t sold in the US.
Now we know how the Americans felt when they heard the GR Yaris wouldn’t be sold here…
Because they promote the electric garbages..we have to move to America..
@@joshbacon8241 I blame those eco terrorists in the European Commission for making these absurd regulations.
Toyota used to be the king of boring and reliable cars. Their GR variant of their cars proves to us, petrolhead, that toyota won't give up combustion engines anytime soon👀🔥
Yeah toyota said that they wont switch to electric i think they are going with hydrogen in the future
I mean they've always had stuff like the MR2, Celica, Supra to go along with the Camry, Corolla, Yaris etc. Not all boring. Even things like the Avensis SR were a little better than their dull competitors.
Nah dude rav4, camry, supra and this are not boring at all.
Imo car brands like this and Hyundai with their new N cars are doing this to give the internal combustion engine a good send off
once upon a time toyota was selling the following, and all at the same time:
Celica, Celica All-Trac/GT-Four
Corolla FX-16
Corolla AE86, then later AE92 and AE111
MR-2
Supra
My grandma’s buzzing for this one!
Now imagine Toyota doing the same work they did on the GR Yaris and GR Corolla to the GR 86.
not gonna happen since the gr86 is a project with subaru. sadly but thats the reality. same with the gr supra. the gr yaris and now the corolla even have a bigger frontbrake than the 3.0 supra :D
This will need to make 320 horsepower to get the same power to weight ratio.
ruclips.net/video/_SaSVi7aYV4/видео.html.
They advertise horsepower that the engine makes . Dyno shows horsepower to the wheels . It isn't' downplayed
@@hoagy_ytfc 👍🤣
@@hoagy_ytfc He’s saying the exact opposite. There’s always more power at the crank than at the wheels.

America's turn
We are getting GR Yaris revision this year. And a more hardcore hot version.
Emission regulations killed it for you guys. USA is not as strict
They probably don’t want them competing

300hp from 3 cylinders is insane and it means each cylinder gives out 100hp! That's insane!

@@skip741x3 Well, it seems like people don't care about this poor design choice, so manufacturers will continue on doing this

Sadly it’s not coming to Europe or the UK. I think Toyota is stupid for not selling the GR Corolla in Europe or the UK.

Machine!GR models are for the die-hearted toyota fans like myself, thanks Gazoo Racing you bring back the true toyota machines.
I will wait to see how the Corolla performs. The Yaris is having transmission issues all over the word. Tipically 2nd gear does not engage.
This will outrun and out perform the Civic Type R further.
I doubt it... and I'm far more a Toyota fanboy than Honda. The new CTR will tear this thing apart on the track. But the GR Corolla will be more fun to drive.
In the wet or from a standing start - yes. Both will be great cars no doubt.
I mean, 0-60 and drag that sort of stuff it has an edge. But performance as a whole on the track I don't think so until I see some laps from this car.
Honda did a masterwork with the CTR and the next 2023 model can be expected to be an even bigger beast.
I love what Toyota are doing. Toyota is finally becoming cool. You find yourself looking at all new Yaris cars to see if it's a GR.
The same small engine as in the Yaris for the Corolla is an absolute no-go. He would have to get at least a 4 cylinder 2 liter engine.
Hi
This is what I've been waiting for!
It's been so long since I was actually just psyched to see a new car. Not since the 2018-2019 E63s.

This car is beautiful. It really feels like Toyota has been listening to consumers and car enthusiasts. Nothing fake, no automatic, manual handbrake, sending more power to the rear wheels in sport mode, plenty of fun stuff on the car with not too much extra. Beautiful car but unfortunately I buy my cars with cash so I’ll probably never own one
Yaris would be chosen by the heart, but the Corolla it's more practical for the daily basis so I would choose the Corolla since I couldn't afford just a car for fun
This Gr Corolla hatchback is basically the Toyota Auris 2008-2012 generation with a wide body kit, gills on the side and big intake grill in the front.
Let's go! We're getting it in the USA. Finally, we're not in the dust
