How To Refill Micron and Pitt Artist Pens

- ***Please note that refilling your pens with india ink will make them suitable for use under watercolors or waterbased markers. Alcohol based markers and pens may smear india ink though so proceed at your own risk:)
Today I will show you how to refill your Pigma Micron and Pitt artist pens. You will need India ink, a pipette, pliers and the pen you wish to refill.
For micron pens you need to gently pull out the silver nib holder and drop about 5 drops of ink in. Replace the nib holder.
For pitt pens use pliers to pull out the stopper at the end of the pen and add 5 drops of ink to the barrel.

Darn. I just threw out my micron pens a few weeks ago when I did a clean up and anything that didn't work got tossed! The moral of the story is; don't clean up your crafting area, leave as is.
Violet Verhoog hahahaha:)
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich mam, you are evil. laughing at somebody's sadness of wasting money.
just joking. i am evil too muhahahahahahhaha
Agreed! 🤣 I tend to not clean up my art supplies anyways because I know exactly where I left everything if no one touches any of it. If I have to put my stuff away, I lose that creative vibe. It is somewhat organized pens with pens, charcoal with drawing stuff, paints with paints, etc but I definitely work better when I have all my stuff out.
I cleaned my area a month ago didn't get the chance to donate the box yet and I've found myself reaching for what I was about to give away lol
@@_bewitchedbyyaz figures! 🤣
Well this is going to save me a lot of money
Awesome!
Here in Iceland you cannot get those easily, now I will refill my microns.
Getur fengið þá í slippfélaginu niðrí Borgartúni. 1700 kall fyrir pakka með 6 pennum í.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!! I hate having to throw out my pens! I will hang on to the old ones long after I get new ones just because I don’t like throwing them out and try to salvage every last bit of ink in them! Now I’m kinda glad I didn’t because I have a whole stash I can refill!!💗
You're ALWAYS helping us S T R E T C H our art budget! Thanks Sooo much Lindsay! You are a very cool lady!
Thank you so much for this. I was on the fence about buying these pens for fear I'd have to throw them away once they ran dry. Will definitely buy them now. Thanks again.
When I think of the pens I have tossed over the years I could cry.
My endless thanks to you, Lindsay.
I know this is an old video but man, I have to say you did a GREAT job demonstrating the hack and I was super happy to see that india ink is a suitable refill. I love it's permanence and waterproof qualities so it's awesome that it doesn't clog up the pen. This is basically one of two videos on youtube that do a good job of demonstrating how to do this. I'm super stoked to try with my microns and faber castells. What a great way to extend the life of the pens. Cheers! :-)
Lindsey, this is WONDERFUL! I use micron and pitt pens all the time and I HATE running out of ink and just tossing the pen. So glad I'll be able to refill them and continue on my art-y way. Great tutorial. Thanks!
Thank you Lindsay! My son will really appreciate this idea. He draws a lot of comics and really goes through the pens.
when the ink pen dries, it breaks my heart because you have alot of memories with the pen and it is expensive
Dear Mrs. Lindsay! Much Thank You for You refill tutoriall, for 6 years consecutively I used to buy new pitt pens when that got dry! and for now I now how to refill it! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!!!!
I made a mess with my droppers, however - and I hope no one has a "EW" moment: I had some leftover insulin syringes from my kitty, who had diabetes. So, I had an AHA moment, and used them to refill the pens and it worked out wonderfully. No mess, easy clean up and the needles are small enough to fit in the top with no spillage. So, if you don't faint at the sight of needles, this works!
Linda DeChow I do the same thing when I refill my microns and my pocket brush pens :)
hope your Kitty is doing okay!!
I just did this. Worked great. I used a 10cc syringe with a blunt needle, I added 2 cc of Winsor and Newton ink. Pen works great.
I never would have thought about refilling my microns! Thanks! Years sgo, I did refill my dried up Marvys with Ranger Perfect Ink Refresher. Those markers are 20 years old, my first "stamping" markers, and they still work!
How were you able to refill w/ Perfect Ink Refresher?
I saved a needle syringe, made for refilling computer ink cartridges. I think one of those turkey injection syringes would work too, but their needles might be too big.
I've tried this with Microns and Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens, it worked really well! I recently bought a Faber-Castell Ecco Pigment pen which is my favourite so far - when the ink runs out in that one I'll try refilling it too. The back is removable just like the Pitt pen, so it should work. Thank you for this video!
This has actually just saved me a butt ton!!! I'm in college and I bought a pack of microns for my Illustration class but a ton of then came dry 💔💔 but this totally just saved me and my wallet!! Thank you again for making this ❤️❤️
Thank you SO much, this came at the perfect time, my Pitt pens were really needing this and I thought they would have to be thrown out. Now I know I can just re ink them!
omg! you are a genius! Now, if you could only find out how to refill the micron brush... Thanks, Lucille
So glad to hear that I can refill my Microns! I don't have a local store to buy them at, so it's nice to be able to refill them. I was on the brink of throwing a few that were drying out. Glad I didn't! :) Thanks for the tip!
What a GREAT idea!!!! Thanks for testing it out for us!!! Love your channel!
Wow thanks so much, got back into drawing and adore my FC Pitt pens, my XS ones dry out quite quickly so I'm so gonna give this a go.
Thanks. I've been using both my Pitt and Micron pens a lot since Inktober!! I've been doing a thing where I lay down some watercolor then go back with my micron or pitt pens and envision flowers and doodle them in. It's quite cathartic. Thanks again for the tips Lindsay!!
How cool! Thank you for testing it out and showing us yet another way to stretch that crafty dollar :)
Thank you. Any money that can be saved is awesome but a favorite pen is just super duper awessssssome.
This is a timeless video. Maybe you should have a playlist of “Most Watched”
You have no fear of getting messy as heck! Awesome
THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU!!!I bought a set of Sakura Micron pens online(can't WAIT to get them) and I was kinda bummed that they were not refillable..but this is a FANTASTIC idea and I'll keep it in mind when my Micron pens run out...great video and I subscribed too :D
How cool is this, thank you very much!! I have never bought expensive pens (or markers) in my life but am much more likely to now.
Thank you! I purchased black india ink awhile back, so I have plenty on hand for this!!! Wow, this is great, I hate to throw these pens away, and they always go dry at the worst time! This process will save money because I love these pens and use them a lot in sketching.
Oh neat! Thanks i have some India ink in a bottle and some pitt artist pens. Thank you!
Wow! Thank you so much!! You have saved me a ton of money. Also, the landfill from many, many pens.
I heard you say you store your pens straight up, well that's why they dry out. Storing them laid down, will not dry them out. Mines are still not dried out, but the tips are finished :-S Great tutorial :-) thanks for sharing!
Yes I noticed this!
I had my micron pens upright and I hadn't used them for a while and some stopped working but I uncoincedentally put them on my table, came back from school, and they worked again!
I like to store my pens in a rotating hamster wheel
Wow! This is fantastic. I have thrown out at least a hundred of the Micron pens over the years. What a great video! Thanks!
I was just about to pitch my pitts that are dry - this is awesome! Thanks.
Excellent! I highly recommend learning to refill ones pens with your favourite ink. Not only is it better for the environment, but you buy 1 bottle of good ink and with a little know-how you can save on tons of pens! Obviously your pen tips will wear out gradually, but I've noticed that most pens will run out of ink before that (just from normal use, or the passage of time). I figured out how to do this for my Kuretake Bimoji Fude Pen (which isn't rechargeable to start), along with re-filling empty Pentel ink cartridges using a pipette similar to the one in the video. Thanks for this! I was going to recycle my Micron pens otherwise (or trash them since they most likely cannot be recycled :( )
Girl!!!!! You are just awesome !!!!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
This is great. I have all sorts of micron pens that have just dried up over the years. thanks
Thank you, I just got a munch of micron brush pens and the tip is amazing, hard to find another match for it. So it's great to know how to refill it :3
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I truly hate throwing out pens, and now I won't have to -- not often, anyway.
YIPEE! Boy am I glad you made this video. I have Micron's I've used on landscape designs that are getting soooo dry I was just getting ready to buy new ones. This info will save me a nice little chunk of moolah! Great how to Lindsey.
You are awesome for sharing this hack. I hate tossing great pens just cuz they run dry.
Thanks for a great tutorial! I love all your videos. :) I bought a set of Pitt pens with Christmas money a few years ago, and was so sad when I used them up. I hope I saved them somewhere! I thought of another tip that might help for this: we use those printer ink refill kits, and they come with syringes and needles (yeah, they're a little scary looking!) Anyway, I have used them to refill fountain pen cartridges, and it would work great for this, as well. Also, on a different topic, every time you mention Marden's, I get the theme song from their commercials stuck in my head. :)
Thank you so much for doing this...I have several pens that need to be refill...thic came to me at the best time..
oh my lerd! this was so helpful. 20/10 best advice of my life and money.XD
Thanks, My Micron Brush Pen was getting dry while making a fan art. This really helped!
Thank you, I will give it a try. This is a great frugal tip.
Thanks so much for the video. these pens were kinda pricey and I didn't want to have to buy them again. I just refilled my Pigma Micron pens and they work again !!!!
Very useful! I will try that soon! I am always having to buy pens...this will help them last longer. Thanks!
Thank you, I didn't know I could refill it. I have two ready to use again
Wow! Love saving money! Thanks a bunch Lindsay!
Thank you for this information. Sure beats the heck out of having to put off a project due to a dried out pen.
thanks so much for this!!! I've never even thought about refilling my Microns😍😍😊😊
Fox news
I love your video! You talk as fast as I do! LOL
Thanks for doing this so quickly. It's a big help!
Robin Carr I'm glad it worked!
I was freaking out. I used so many of these in university (art major) and threw so many out. I had so many that lasted me after uni too and I still enjoy using them but i've started a zero waste journey and so I don't want to throw things out and buy more of them and my microns were starting to dry out. So panic ensued and I thought there HAD to be a hack to refill these things. So thank you so much! You saved me! I have pliers from jewerlery making and india ink just from brush painting. I am SO relieved.
+SparrowTale good luck with your journey;)
Thanx My microns start working
Keep making these videos 😊
Thank you for this! I have about a dozen of these that I love using but are running low.
I just found some Micron pens a few days ago and was going to toss them. I'm glad I saw this video. Thanks!
So awesome and frugal you have outdone yourself yet again...I so love your channel. Thank You so much, you are a GEM to the Art and Craft world! Especially...well just every budget, craft...you amaze me...LOVE IT!!! Your Energy... ;~)
You just saved me so much money!!! thank you so much!!!
color me impressed AGAIN...I'm not sure you should call yourself "the frugal crafter" but something more along the lines of the "educational crafter". You really have no fear and I love it.
Danee Kaplan True, the pens are pricey BUT they last a good while on their own and a really long time if you reink them. It is better than buying a bunch of cheap pens that don't work well:) Thanks for watching!
Very helpful, sis! Thanks for ending poverty and helping us save money
I knew that I could count on you for this, thank you!😊
No problem 😊
This is fate that you recorded this. I am in the process of Micron/Pitt shopping and you have saved the day!!! No shopping for me. Thank you for keeping me frugal!!!!
Lori Lynette you are welcome.
I usually try to wear finger kots (when I remember to) when I do something with inks. I reuse them many times too depending on how stained they get. Especially useful when say you need to go to an important appointment and you don't want to walk in looking like you just came out of a preschool art class but you still want to use your inks the day before or something like that. A pack of them was less than 2 bucks at walmart and i want to say without checking i think there's definitely at least 20 in there but i think its more. I usually wear one just on my index finger and thumb. They are tight however. Just know that. I have skinny fingers and i get imprints but i also roll them all the way back to make sure they stay put. They really work though and for refilling with inks definitely a huge help
This video is a life saver THANKYOU
Thanks, Lindsay. This is another tip to go in my book :)
Hi Lindsay...Been watching your videos/blog for some time now and thoroughly enjoy them. Can I also refill my Sakura Pigma Sense pens the same way...using the India Ink? Thank you so much for helping all of us stampers/crafters out in Blogland!!! :)
not just very helpfull, but also like your happy voice :)
fantastic tip linsay i will be using this tip as well i will also tell people about it great video
Thanks so much for this Tut!! And you are soo timely. I got inspired by your zentangle tut and was zipping right along when ....no more ink. :( so will do a Blick order I guess. Do have questions where do you get nibs? I need some memento ones in particular?
Excellent share Lindsay! Thank you!
Great tutorial India ink ordered and subbed 😁
Thanks for this great tip - will definitely give it a whirl. :)
Wow, thank you for the advice. Off to the store to get some India ink. Waaaaahooooo!!!!!
maybe get better ink than indian ink though...
it's kind of a bad ink, that eats through material.
it's super cheap and easy to find though
luly lulyanka what ink would you recommend?
dmo her The Higgins ink I guess
Thank you so much ! This is great to know ! Art on :)!!
Thanx for sharing. Can't wait to try!
Great info! Thanks Lindsay.
This is brilliant information. So helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for your video Lindsay. My Micron Pigma 005 nib has worn down and I wonder if you have tried to push the nib up to re-expose and create a new tip?
I have not tried it, you might need to pull it with tweezers and they are so delicate so no guarantee it will work but hey, what have you got to loose?
I want to refill it, with what the original ink kind was I really like the waterproof and fadeproof of it. Where can i get them?
Great information to have......thanks!
I have a micron pen that still has ink but the tip is dry.
I just took the tip off and put rubbing alcohol in and reassembled it and let it sit cap down . Now it works!
Thanks a lotAlthough i havent tried it yet But im sure the video will really help me
I don't yet have either of these pens but it is great to know that they are refillable! Are black sharpies refillable too?
I've got a set of Faber-Castell Pitt pens (exactly like the ones in the video) that I've had for maybe a year or so. I use them semi-recently and last night I left one uncapped on my desk overnight. I'm fairly sure there's still a fair amount of ink in it but almost no ink will transfer to the paper and the nib seems very dry. If there a way to get the pen to keep working without refilling the ink?
Great video!
Would love to know where to find pipettes. Great tips!!
oh my god thank you so much !!! you saved my favourite pen
Thank you, super helpful!!! :)
thank you so much you helped me a lot!
I would use india ink that's made for rapidograph pens for better ink flow doing this. I sometimes even have to do a drop of ammonia based window cleaner to loosen the ink and get better flow.
thanks for the cheat codes! i sketch with my ink pens so i was looking for a way to refill the pens i already have. (instead of trying to buy a new set every week lol)
Love it!!! Thank you! 💕👍👍👍👍👍
Cool. I need to go watch the one for alcohol markers. TFS ~ Pat :)
Hi Lindsay great tutorial, who knew that these pens could be refilled? What about refilling the sepia Sakura Pigma Micron pens is there sepia India ink?? If not what sort of ink am I looking for??
Very useful. Thank you!!😃
Hi Lindsay I just found your video thumbing through for Pitt pen info Q what about color Pitt pens what color ink would you use thank you for sharing this wonderful video have a bless one creative colorful hugs to you
Can you do one on the prismacolor brush pens?
