Marc Weiner i’m a year late but when the ride stops they turn the lights on to see what’s happening and then they sometimes leave them on to for the rest of the ride to make sure everything else goes good or they’ll turn them back off after it gets going again

When something goes wrong with the ride, the lights will turn on. It is very rare to encounter this. Personally, I think it is better with the lights off. Also, usually when you ride with the lights on, you get a fast pass to ride it again with the lights off.

With the lights on you see that it is regular, rather tame, pretty simple roller coaster. When the lights are off and the special effects of twinkling stars and small planets appear, it becomes a pretty cool ride experience. Thank you for sharing this video with us. 😌

It can be scary with the lights on because you can see all the supports, and some of them act as head choppers nearly!
Wasn't clear to me from the video - are the lights on??? I mean, he says they are on and it looks like they are on and the video title says they are on, but it's SPACE MOUNTAIN. Space is DARK. So confused. Maybe if he said it one more time I'd feel more comfortable with believing the lights are actually on, but as it stands now, it's anybody's guess. :-/

As a tall person whose head almost touches the top of both the blue and red tunnels, this does not assuage my worries.

cyanmanta I thought the same thing. I always feel like my head is going to get chopped off on this ride, and I was hoping watching it with the lights on would make it better. But, no. Some of those drops, the ride looks so close to your head!
First, I love the enthusiasm for *the lights being on*. Second, this might be the very clearest lights-on POV for Space Mountain Disneyworld on RUclips. I've watched several and I was hoping to find one this well shot, where you can see the track and rider's direct point of view through the whole thing. Nicely done!
It's really cool, too, because I've been going on the original Space Mountain in Disneyland my whole life, but even though I lived in central Florida for a year, I never got to go to Disneyworld. I can't believe how different they are! Two tracks, completely different scenery, and it looks like it's not as fast but much more floaty and open with more drops. (The original is a crazy fast, claustrophobic little knot made of right helices and lateral Gs, plus the illusion of collision with projection screens.) It's like they took the same concept and aesthetic and created an entirely reimagined ride from it.
I really need to try this one.

Are you saying that the disneyland one is the original one? Because the space mountain in Disney world was built first. Sorry I'm just confused on how you said that

As a tall guy, the fact that I can feel stuff near my head with the lights off scares me enough... But realizing how close they are with the lights on makes me uneasy.

Honestly I couldn't tell you.
One time I went on this ride and the People mover lights in the background were on. The park had already closed and there were cast members on the track to make sure no one was one. It was half dark, half bright. But bright enough to see. Really cool.
Really thanks for sharing this. I think it's interesting - when you see how compact and what the ride physically is, it demonstrates the designers' work in how great it was to just play tricks on the mind to make a very thrilling ride out of just a few tweaks to one's environment.
This is a story about me with my first time in Space Mountain. 😂 So we went on DisneyLand LA. And then we went on Space Mountain it was pitch black they're a lot of turns and they're a little bit of drops and they weren't that steep. So after one of the workers were like "You guys wanna go again?" So we said "yes" and we thought they're lying and we just went again 😂 kk thats all bye 😂

I got to do this once, we were stuck on the ride for like 20 minutes on the hill before they sent us through with the lights on, and then again with the lights off.. 2 for 1 for waiting on the hill.. my grandmother was screaming like crazy

I got to do this with the lights on when I worked there. It was really cool, this and the Haunted Mansion, just makes it a totally different riding experience.

Gigidag77 Omg i totally agree with you! This video came out so good and i wasn't even expecting the lights to turn on lol. I guess its a good thing that i always sit in the front on Space Mountain. TPR's video also sucked because they filmed with their iPhones probably and they sat in the back when he could of sat in the front to get a much better video!!! By the way when i was in line i actually made a few prayers to god and I'm not even kidding i asked him to turn the lights on and look at that,in the end dreams really do come true in disney.
