I have made this dish countless times and have even memorized the process. It goes really well with basmati rice and it's perfect to serve to guests. They will love the abundance of flavors and the rice creaminess.
Choux That sounds delicious! What kind of boullion broth did you use??? Did you just put beef boullion powder or cube in boiling water to make the broth or did you buy it premade??? I've never used beef boullion broth before. And as for the cake flour, can I substitute it with all purpose flour?
Aw Eric! Just found you here while reminding myself how to make this. Would you be able to go eat Hayashi rice in a little place for us, some day? I'd love to see it served up in a restaurant and get your rating on it! :) x
Cooking with Dog Been a watcher since 2009, Chef's recipes are so delicious and easy to follow! :D I'm just sad I never tried this recipe sooner! Please tell her that her recipes warm my heart and I'm always looking forward to the next video. (=´∀`)人(´∀`=)
I just made this recipe, it was absolutely fantastic. The texture is something you have to taste for yourself. Thank you very much for this wonderful recipe!
This is soooo delicious!!! i can't even describe how mouth-wateringly delectable this is! thank you!! my daughter and i made this today and we both agree, it's on the monthly dinner list!
cookingwithdog and foodwishes teach me so much. I just know what I'm doing when I'm cooking now all because of you two. It's like I've been cooking for years =]
Just wanted to say, THANK YOU. Your vids were entertaining, helpful and motivated me through a midnight cooking session. Ended up making some deep-fried steak cutlets (Tonkatsu)!
Just how i wish, cookingwith dog could show us the video on cleaning dishes or managing the kitchen.... THE KITCHEN IS FABULOUS!!! DOn't you think?? SO CLEAN!!!!
yeah, when you consider that they are sold mostly by piece and not by weight. Like an apple - $1, tomato - $1, orange - $1, strawberry - $5, watermelon - $25. Being vegan in Japan is quite expensive, as well as eating meat. But everything that's fish and chicken is almost free.
The worst part is those grinders are not cheap to buy just cheaply made. I never understood why anyone buys a salt grinder anyway. You can grind salt with a mortar and pestle in fairly large quantities and store it. Salt does not have any oils that will go bad and as long as it's kept dry will last practically forever. It's a mineral, not something organic that will go bad. I am using Organic in the chemistry sense not in the overpriced Whole Foods sense.
I made this for dinner last night, and I have come to the conclusion that this video does the dish no justice. This was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever made, and blows the boxed hayashi rice you buy at the store out of the water! Thank you chef, for a wonderful dinner! Oh, and to those who are wondering, I used normal American worcestershire sauce, and it still came out fantastic. So for those living in America who think they can't make this dish: YES YOU CAN!
I made this dish for a friend and her family. It turned out far better than I ever expected! I did add some golden zucchini and doubled the recipe. Wow!! Even better the next day too! Thank you Frances and wonderful Lady!
I love love love your recipes, the lady, the dog and Francis' voice!! Thank you! Watching your videos is so much more interesting than reading a cookery book!
This looks so good. I've tried a lot of your recipes and they never failed to turn out delicious. I don't know what the whole commotion about the demi-glace thing when you never claimed that you are making one in this recipe. You only mentioned that the sauce you are making is "SIMILAR" to demi-glace sauce. Thanks for showing us this recipe!
I just came to say domo arigato gozaimasu! This is one of my ultimate favourite recepies, I've done it a few times now and it tastes better every time! You're also one of my absolute favourite RUclips channels, so cheers from Finland! :)
I've tried once. It tastes great even without the ウスターソース!! This dish is awesome! Finally I find the ウスターソース and will try to make it again tonight! Can't wait to try! I subscribe the cooking with the dog for a long long time and fellow many recipes. They taste so Japan! LOVE !!!!
Made this today and I can confirm it tasted AWESOME. I didn't have button mushrooms so I just used the long stringy kind?? I had in the fridge, also added eggplant.
I remember seeing this videos for the first time and thinking that roux was some kind of magic that noone really made at home. This was one of the channels that really motivated me to improve my cooking and it was the first channel that I ever subscribed to.
I made this just now. You guys gotta try it. Soooo good. Especially home made, the sauce is the best! And it wasn't hard either. If you're concerned about the wine, the one I used was kind of hiding in the corner. Left over. No one was drinking it.
YES!!! thank you! Always order hayashi rice at my local japanese restaurant, but when i looked it up it seems so hard to make at home, especially finding the demi-glace sauce! However you did it here with simple ingredients! thanks!
Oh i always wanted to try this one out but i never really knew how to. Thank you so much for giving these great instructions (just like always). i can now most definitely try it out!

I have made this dish several times and every time it reminds me Francis, truly missed. Please Francis teach the angels to make hayashi rice!
The bouillon broth (water + bouillon powder) are added to the roux (flour mixture) :)
I love Chef-san's hair..... she looks marvelous....
The bay leaf will add the refreshing aroma to the dish and help reduce the smell of meat :)
Ohhh, Thanks Francis...I've been waiting for this dish!
Aw Eric! Just found you here while reminding myself how to make this. Would you be able to go eat Hayashi rice in a little place for us, some day? I'd love to see it served up in a restaurant and get your rating on it! :) x
Chef! I just made this recipe tonight. My god, it's so delicious! The homemade roux definitely makes a difference in the flavor and texture!
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the recipe! :) Thank you for supporting our channel. (*^^*)

I tried out this recipe a few weeks ago and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! I was even able to make that cute little rice mound! A+ will make again!
Heinz tomato ketchup can be used for hayashi rice! In the video, the ketchup is added at 4:05 and the tomato sauce is added at 4:40 :)
It's actually so adorable how Chef smiles all the time while she's cooking.
I recently discovered this channel and have been binge watching. The hostess never ages. She must be a CGI character! 😊
Great demonstration on how to make a golden brown roux without burning it. This is a great technique for many recipes in different cultures.
Correction: The canned diced tomato is added at 4:40 (not tomato sauce). Sorry.
I just made this recipe, it was absolutely fantastic. The texture is something you have to taste for yourself. Thank you very much for this wonderful recipe!

I love how francis smile widely when the lady said it was her favorite sauce. (at the end)
You’re right I didn’t notice it until you said so!!

I just made this today, not being able to find demi-glace sauce. Thanks for the great version of Hayashi Rice!
Francis' command of English is improving! I love this cook show.
Beef is often used for hayashi rice but pork is fine :)
Just how i wish, cookingwith dog could show us the video on cleaning dishes or managing the kitchen.... THE KITCHEN IS FABULOUS!!! DOn't you think?? SO CLEAN!!!!
Okay, who else has to remind himself/herself every now and then that the dog isn't really speaking?
What do you mean? ofc the dog is speaking who else
Me
He is the finest gentleman who speaks with the utmost eloquence! Do not question him! Lol
why i always choose to watch cookingwithdog videos in the middle of the night is beyond me (Q n Q) hungry~
Why is this so fun to watch.
you are a treasure trove of pasta suggestions!
Geez Japanese vegetables are so perfect looking, well only for this video probably.
I know I looked at the size of that carrot, and thought they don't grow that big here.
They're all super pretty in their supermarkets! It's a little expensive. Like 10% more. But they're beautiful! And delicious

i don't think i have seen you using that much of butter in one vlog. none the less the food looks so good and yum.
Is the Japanese ketchup different than that of American. It looks like it has a different consistency and effect on food
I sat here for about an hour watching these videos. I could watch them all day.
Look SO GOOD want to make but mom doesn't trust me to use the kitchen yet.
it's kinda hard to make the roux but the rest of the recipe is fairly easy :) you could ask her to help you and cook together ^^
Been five years, how about now?
Dont let these guys discourage you. Your an awesome chef and this is amazing!
Hostess Chef: "Stupid cheap salt n' pepper grinders!" XD
The worst part is those grinders are not cheap to buy just cheaply made. I never understood why anyone buys a salt grinder anyway. The dog looks so happy with it's mouth always open. Awww...
dog is well mannered

Your very fast, very professional. Nice cooking and eating with the dog.
I have made this and it's amazing! Please share more recipes with non-japanese special ingredients, they are so hard to find (at least in Italy...)
cookingwithdog is the perfect cooking video with great step-by-step instruction and hosted by the most awesome dog.
You know its going to be a good day when cookingwithdog makes a new video:)
Chef is such a good cook. This might make a good pot pie filling.
Cooking with Dog is so much better than any american cooking show! Maybe because it is not commercial at all :D

As someone having health issues and has been directed by my doctor to eat low fat, this recipe made me cry. So much butter. Looks so good!!
You could substitute. And you don't have to put butter in rice.
I've tried once. It tastes great even without the ウスターソース!! This dish is awesome!
Finally I find the ウスターソース and will try to make it again tonight! Can't wait to try!

Haha! Me too! I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's so satisfying!
This recipe is very western!!! I live in Colombia, and in here we make a lot of simmilar recipes. Thx for the upload :D
I have only cooked hayashi rice by using the ready made cube. It tasted wonderful, but I'm sure this will be better. Thanks for another good video.
The alcohol completely evaporates while cooking so kids can enjoy the hayashi rice :) You can also skip the wine if you don't like it.
Frenchanese food! French and Japanese flavors and techniques make wonderful companions.
I remember seeing this videos for the first time and thinking that roux was some kind of magic that noone really made at home. This was one of the channels that really motivated me to improve my cooking and it was the first channel that I ever subscribed to.
just tried making it. my kid loves it. thanks for the great instructions.
