I have made this dish countless times and have even memorized the process. It goes really well with basmati rice and it's perfect to serve to guests. They will love the abundance of flavors and the rice creaminess.
Choux That sounds delicious! What kind of boullion broth did you use??? Did you just put beef boullion powder or cube in boiling water to make the broth or did you buy it premade??? I've never used beef boullion broth before. And as for the cake flour, can I substitute it with all purpose flour?
Aw Eric! Just found you here while reminding myself how to make this. Would you be able to go eat Hayashi rice in a little place for us, some day? I'd love to see it served up in a restaurant and get your rating on it! :) x
Cooking with Dog Been a watcher since 2009, Chef's recipes are so delicious and easy to follow! :D I'm just sad I never tried this recipe sooner! Please tell her that her recipes warm my heart and I'm always looking forward to the next video. (=´∀`)人(´∀`=)
I just made this recipe, it was absolutely fantastic. The texture is something you have to taste for yourself. Thank you very much for this wonderful recipe!
This is soooo delicious!!! i can't even describe how mouth-wateringly delectable this is! thank you!! my daughter and i made this today and we both agree, it's on the monthly dinner list!
I made this for dinner last night, and I have come to the conclusion that this video does the dish no justice. This was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever made, and blows the boxed hayashi rice you buy at the store out of the water! Thank you chef, for a wonderful dinner! Oh, and to those who are wondering, I used normal American worcestershire sauce, and it still came out fantastic. So for those living in America who think they can't make this dish: YES YOU CAN!
cookingwithdog and foodwishes teach me so much. I just know what I'm doing when I'm cooking now all because of you two. It's like I've been cooking for years =]
I just came to say domo arigato gozaimasu! This is one of my ultimate favourite recepies, I've done it a few times now and it tastes better every time! You're also one of my absolute favourite RUclips channels, so cheers from Finland! :)
This looks so good. I've tried a lot of your recipes and they never failed to turn out delicious. I don't know what the whole commotion about the demi-glace thing when you never claimed that you are making one in this recipe. You only mentioned that the sauce you are making is "SIMILAR" to demi-glace sauce. Thanks for showing us this recipe!
I love love love your recipes, the lady, the dog and Francis' voice!! Thank you! Watching your videos is so much more interesting than reading a cookery book!
Just how i wish, cookingwith dog could show us the video on cleaning dishes or managing the kitchen.... THE KITCHEN IS FABULOUS!!! DOn't you think?? SO CLEAN!!!!
Just wanted to say, THANK YOU. Your vids were entertaining, helpful and motivated me through a midnight cooking session. Ended up making some deep-fried steak cutlets (Tonkatsu)!
yeah, when you consider that they are sold mostly by piece and not by weight. Like an apple - $1, tomato - $1, orange - $1, strawberry - $5, watermelon - $25. Being vegan in Japan is quite expensive, as well as eating meat. But everything that's fish and chicken is almost free.
I made this dish for a friend and her family. It turned out far better than I ever expected! I did add some golden zucchini and doubled the recipe. Wow!! Even better the next day too! Thank you Frances and wonderful Lady!
The worst part is those grinders are not cheap to buy just cheaply made. I never understood why anyone buys a salt grinder anyway. You can grind salt with a mortar and pestle in fairly large quantities and store it. Salt does not have any oils that will go bad and as long as it's kept dry will last practically forever. It's a mineral, not something organic that will go bad. I am using Organic in the chemistry sense not in the overpriced Whole Foods sense.
I've tried once. It tastes great even without the ウスターソース!! This dish is awesome! Finally I find the ウスターソース and will try to make it again tonight! Can't wait to try! I subscribe the cooking with the dog for a long long time and fellow many recipes. They taste so Japan! LOVE !!!!
I made this just now. You guys gotta try it. Soooo good. Especially home made, the sauce is the best! And it wasn't hard either. If you're concerned about the wine, the one I used was kind of hiding in the corner. Left over. No one was drinking it.
I remember seeing this videos for the first time and thinking that roux was some kind of magic that noone really made at home. This was one of the channels that really motivated me to improve my cooking and it was the first channel that I ever subscribed to.
Made this today and I can confirm it tasted AWESOME. I didn't have button mushrooms so I just used the long stringy kind?? I had in the fridge, also added eggplant.
YES!!! thank you! Always order hayashi rice at my local japanese restaurant, but when i looked it up it seems so hard to make at home, especially finding the demi-glace sauce! However you did it here with simple ingredients! thanks!
I made a vegetarian version of this by replacing the meat with additional mushrooms (usually just more champignons but I think a mixture of mushrooms would definitely also be good), and replacing the stock with a vegetable stock. Tastes nevertheless fantastic! It's hard to imagine that such a tasty dish can come from such simple ingredients and steps.
Omg! I just made this but without the butter in the rice nor the parsely, carrots, honey, nor whipping cream but it is the best food I have eaten, I can taste the bay leaves and the tomatoes so yummy and I drank all of my wine lol
hey, Francis, I saw you in runny's video XD It was epic. And also, this the best-looking recipe you ever made. I almost ate my screen. Sometime I will try it. thx, for the vid!
In most recipes you can substitute beef broth. I do this when cooking for my mother (red wine interacts fatally with a medication she takes) and everything has turned out fine so far.
Oh i always wanted to try this one out but i never really knew how to. Thank you so much for giving these great instructions (just like always). i can now most definitely try it out!
oh, what a delicious looking reciepe!!! in my opinion I think is one of the best! I love the butter in the food and rice with butter we also eat in my country. we melt the butter in the steamed rice and we eat it with spinach creamor mushroom cream soup. Regards from Romania!
I just found this video today. It’s funny that most Japanese comments are complaining that letting a dog in the kitchen is bad for hygiene while most English comments are complementing how delicious this recipe is. I’m Japanese but I don’t mind cooking while having a dog as a companion so I thought it’s very interesting.
Hehe I love it when japanese cuisine takes inspiration in French cuisine, for example this recipe is obviously inspired from Béchamel sauce, because I already know how to cook that! ^___^ you're amazing chef!
Really nice recipe, especially breaking down the process of making Demi-Glace to some small steps to get a good replacement! The only thing I would do different is around 5:45 . I would first add the soy sauce, then taste and only if needed add salt. Soy sauce itself is very spicy so for beginners there is the chance to overdo it when they add salt first and might add a bit too much of it.
I have made this dish countless times and have even memorized the process. It goes really well with basmati rice and it's perfect to serve to guests. They will love the abundance of flavors and the rice creaminess.

Heinz tomato ketchup can be used for hayashi rice! In the video, the ketchup is added at 4:05 and the tomato sauce is added at 4:40 :)
The bouillon broth (water + bouillon powder) are added to the roux (flour mixture) :)
Ohhh, Thanks Francis...I've been waiting for this dish!
Aw Eric! Just found you here while reminding myself how to make this. Would you be able to go eat Hayashi rice in a little place for us, some day? I'd love to see it served up in a restaurant and get your rating on it! :) x
I tried out this recipe a few weeks ago and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! I was even able to make that cute little rice mound! A+ will make again!
I love Chef-san's hair..... she looks marvelous....
The bay leaf will add the refreshing aroma to the dish and help reduce the smell of meat :)
I have made this dish several times and every time it reminds me Francis, truly missed. Please Francis teach the angels to make hayashi rice!
Chef! I just made this recipe tonight. My god, it's so delicious! The homemade roux definitely makes a difference in the flavor and texture!
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the recipe! :) Thank you for supporting our channel. (*^^*)
It's actually so adorable how Chef smiles all the time while she's cooking.
Great demonstration on how to make a golden brown roux without burning it. This is a great technique for many recipes in different cultures.
Correction: The canned diced tomato is added at 4:40 (not tomato sauce). Sorry.
I recently discovered this channel and have been binge watching. The hostess never ages. She must be a CGI character! 😊
This is soooo delicious!!! i can't even describe how mouth-wateringly delectable this is! thank you!! my daughter and i made this today and we both agree, it's on the monthly dinner list!

Beef is often used for hayashi rice but pork is fine :)
I love love love your recipes, the lady, the dog and Francis' voice!! Thank you! Watching your videos is so much more interesting than reading a cookery book!
Okay, who else has to remind himself/herself every now and then that the dog isn't really speaking?
What do you mean? ofc the dog is speaking who else
Me
He is the finest gentleman who speaks with the utmost eloquence! Do not question him! Lol
Just how i wish, cookingwith dog could show us the video on cleaning dishes or managing the kitchen.... THE KITCHEN IS FABULOUS!!! DOn't you think?? SO CLEAN!!!!
Why is this so fun to watch.
Just wanted to say, THANK YOU.
Your vids were entertaining, helpful and motivated me through a midnight cooking session.
Ended up making some deep-fried steak cutlets (Tonkatsu)!
Geez Japanese vegetables are so perfect looking, well only for this video probably.
I know I looked at the size of that carrot, and thought they don't grow that big here.
They're all super pretty in their supermarkets! It's a little expensive. Like 10% more. But they're beautiful! And delicious
yeah, when you consider that they are sold mostly by piece and not by weight. Like an apple - $1, tomato - $1, orange - $1, strawberry - $5, watermelon - $25. Being vegan in Japan is quite expensive, as well as eating meat. But everything that's fish and chicken is almost free.
i don't think i have seen you using that much of butter in one vlog. none the less the food looks so good and yum.
Look SO GOOD want to make but mom doesn't trust me to use the kitchen yet.
it's kinda hard to make the roux but the rest of the recipe is fairly easy :) you could ask her to help you and cook together ^^
Been five years, how about now?
I made this dish for a friend and her family. It turned out far better than I ever expected! I did add some golden zucchini and doubled the recipe. Wow!! Even better the next day too! Thank you Frances and wonderful Lady!
Is the Japanese ketchup different than that of American. It looks like it has a different consistency and effect on food
you are a treasure trove of pasta suggestions!
Hostess Chef: "Stupid cheap salt n' pepper grinders!" XD
The worst part is those grinders are not cheap to buy just cheaply made. I never understood why anyone buys a salt grinder anyway. Dont let these guys discourage you. Your an awesome chef and this is amazing!
dog is well mannered
I've tried once. It tastes great even without the ウスターソース!! This dish is awesome!

why i always choose to watch cookingwithdog videos in the middle of the night is beyond me (Q n Q) hungry~
Francis' command of English is improving! I love this cook show.
As someone having health issues and has been directed by my doctor to eat low fat, this recipe made me cry. So much butter. Looks so good!!
You could substitute. And you don't have to put butter in rice.
You know its going to be a good day when cookingwithdog makes a new video:)
I remember seeing this videos for the first time and thinking that roux was some kind of magic that noone really made at home. This was one of the channels that really motivated me to improve my cooking and it was the first channel that I ever subscribed to.
Cooking with Dog is so much better than any american cooking show! Maybe because it is not commercial at all :D
Why am I just seeing this channel?? I will be making some of these delicious recipes!!! Thank you!!
Your very fast, very professional. Nice cooking and eating with the dog.
I sat here for about an hour watching these videos. I could watch them all day.
I love how francis smile widely when the lady said it was her favorite sauce. (at the end)
You’re right I didn’t notice it until you said so!!
I have made this and it's amazing! Please share more recipes with non-japanese special ingredients, they are so hard to find (at least in Italy...)
cookingwithdog is the perfect cooking video with great step-by-step instruction and hosted by the most awesome dog.
I have only cooked hayashi rice by using the ready made cube. It tasted wonderful, but I'm sure this will be better. Thanks for another good video.
This is the cutest cooking show ever!!! And it looks so yummy! =)
The dog looks so happy with it's mouth always open. Awww...

Let's support chef by watching Cooking With Dog everyday!
Made this tonight, and it was so yummy!
I didn t have wine, so used beer, Vegemite and Passat instead of crushed tomatoes. Still A+
This dish looks amazing! I cannot wait to give this a try! Thank you so much for your videos. Please continue to share amazing recipes.
you are not alone! i enjoy cwd's videos before i go to bed XD and this makes me soooooo hungry everytime (LOL)
just tried making it. my kid loves it. thanks for the great instructions.

Tastes nevertheless fantastic! It's hard to imagine that such a tasty dish can come from such simple ingredients and steps.
Francis, you are such a terrific chef!! ;) I plan to make this asap - thank you for another terrific recipe & demonstration. :D
Her generous use of butter makes her the Paula Dean of Japan!
So easy, quick and yummy looking! I cannot wait to try this recipe for my family. Thank you!
Omg! I just made this but without the butter in the rice nor the parsely, carrots, honey, nor whipping cream but it is the best food I have eaten, I can taste the bay leaves and the tomatoes so yummy and I drank all of my wine lol
The alcohol completely evaporates while cooking so kids can enjoy the hayashi rice :) You can also skip the wine if you don't like it.
Frenchanese food! French and Japanese flavors and techniques make wonderful companions.
Love you Francis and Chef 🥰
hey, Francis, I saw you in runny's video XD
It was epic.
And also, this the best-looking recipe you ever made.
I almost ate my screen.
Sometime I will try it.
thx, for the vid!
Haha! Me too! I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's so satisfying!
In most recipes you can substitute beef broth. I do this when cooking for my mother (red wine interacts fatally with a medication she takes) and everything has turned out fine so far.
Yessssss, you are back!! Ty!!
Wow guys, that looks DELICIOUS. Thanks for all your hard work!
Oh i always wanted to try this one out but i never really knew how to. Thank you so much for giving these great instructions (just like always). i can now most definitely try it out!
This looks delicious but may I please request more traditional Japanese food like you had before? That was fascinating to learn about!
I love pumpkin soup! Can't wait to see your next video.
This was soooooo gooood 😭😭😭
Thank youuuu🥰🥰🥰
oh, what a delicious looking reciepe!!! in my opinion I think is one of the best! I love the butter in the food and rice with butter we also eat in my country. we melt the butter in the steamed rice and we eat it with spinach creamor mushroom cream soup. Regards from Romania!
this looked really good, but i cannot wait for the next video!!
The sauce to this dish is soooooo delicious. MAKE IT.
usually i find the recipes to be too time consuming, but i'm totally making this one : )
It's bad because dogs can shed fur. Do you want hair in your food?
Very Delicious! Everyone loved it, from my dog to my parents. Great and easy recipe to follow.
Hehe I love it when japanese cuisine takes inspiration in French cuisine, for example this recipe is obviously inspired from Béchamel sauce, because I already know how to cook that! ^___^ you're amazing chef!
That pumpkin mug/cup/whatever at the end is adorable ;0;
she loves cooking so much i can c tht when everytime i watch this show
OMG THE NEXT ONE LOOKS SOOO KAWAAAIIIIIIIII!
Really nice recipe, especially breaking down the process of making Demi-Glace to some small steps to get a good replacement! The only thing I would do different is around 5:45 . Francis, your English is simply adorable. ^^
I love her cuisine!!! Thank you for posting Francis!
Pumpkin pudding?! YESSS! I love making that stuff! I make it for Halloween AND Thanksgiving! You guys are definitely in for a treat.
