    Dried bonito flakes are also called Katsuobushi, Kezuribushi or Hanakatsuo. Toast the bonito flakes first so that you can easily crumble into pieces :)

    Cake flour is different from all purpose flour. It is thinner than all purpose flour and produces a more soft and tender texture, which makes it great for cakes and baked goods. You can substitute cake flour with all purpose flour by using 1 cup of all purpose flour minus 2 tablespoons for 1 cup of cake flour :)

      pat_snow08 okonomiyaki was invented during food shortages in Japan during World War 2, the dish makes a good use of the flour that was scarce as well as vegetables, of which some such as cabbage were easier to get ahold of.

    • @preeta8275
      @preeta8275 4 года назад +1

      In my mind I call this the Atom Bomb Okonomiyaki. That’s why its called Hiroshima O. All people had was mostly veggies and flour. Mainly cabbage. So they came up with this recipe. No meat. Just a pancake with veggies on top. I am not sure if noodles were in the original recipe or not. I love the way its made and the layering and the two special O. Spatulas. I think it was in fact some moms who looked at their cabbage and flour and thought how do i make this interesting for my family. Whenever i make this because of its history i always say a prayer of apology for the suffering caused.

      @@preeta8275 it's just called Hiroshima okonomiyaki because this version of okonomiyaki adds Hiroshima noodles.
      So it's okonomiyaki that became a speciality served in Hiroshima.
      It's not because the only thing you've ever heard of this city was when it was bombed mean that all of its history.
      It's existed long before and had been rebuilt, this has litteraly nothing to do with the bombing.
      Don't just make up your narrative out of impressions and present them or spread false facts.
      Also to add, the original okonomiyaki is made of mainly cabbage too and few meat, It's was a Poor's dish to start wish, litteraly the only difference is the noodles.

    I made this yesterday with bacon and surimi sticks. Delicious and easier than you think!

    Me and my dad made this recipe together a few times. It is delicious with a soft and custard-like center. We found Okonomi sauce at a nearby H-Mart.

    I was looking for a recipe for this, and I was really happy to see that you had made one! I will use this recipe to cook Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki for my husband from Yamaguchi when we move out of Japan.

    What I like best about this recipe is that the ingredients used are not too rare in my area. Once again I am afforded the opportunity to impress my guests, all thanks to Chef and Francis!
