I was special created this video to show you-how to repair the "Ping Sound" of your lovely S. T. Dupont lighter with home tools.
On this video I was changed the old parts(pin, sleave, lid and sping pistons and the spring). I use new and authentic parts. I sell this parts on my ebay account. The price of full set(pin, spring, pistons and sleave) is 35$. You can visit my account to: www.ebay.com/usr/dian_tomov
On this video I was remove the old parts and put the new. I was not used the oil. For best "Ping Sound" please open and clean your lighter. Put your new parts with zippo oil, WD 40 or etc. after this enjoy on the new loud and unique "Ping Sound" of your favorite S. T. Dupont Ligne 2 or Gatsby lighter/lighters.

Thanks for the vid! I own a Gatsby that won't ring out anymore. The one thing I didn't see you mess with is the metal strip that is screwed down by one screw on the inside of the cap. I thought that was what makes the ping sound.
So its not ne metal strip what makes the sound ? i was sure it is it
I've had my line 2 for maybe 6 months and today while I was driving I used my Dupont and I felt something fall out and it was that plate inside the cap. It still pings though.
the strip is more of a reverberator you can actually tune the ping with the screw

Hello Dian, I have a question, how long does the ping sound keep on with daily use. I opened it about 30 times a day. After a full service the ping sound in about four months no longer exists, only a dull sound like in your vid. I paid 85 Euros for the Service, and i thought they change all the old Parts. Thank you, i hope you can help me, because i think they did not a good Job and cheated on me.

This will not repair your lid position. You need teplace the main flame panel and everything will be ok

I like my ST Dupont lighters but i don't like the ping sound it makes it sounds like a Zippo to me

That is a unique "How to" video if am going to try this am afraid i would damage my st dupont , My lighter has no ping sound at all. Nice video but what kind of parts do i exactly need to get a clear and loud ping sound?
SalemMillion Hallo, this methot will not damage your S. T. Dupont lighter. You must remove the pin, after that the lid. When you remove the lid, you need remove old plastic sleave and the lid piston and change with new. Remove old spring and spring piston.
This parts you can buy from me. I will add this parts for sale today or tommorow.
P.s. If your old pin is 1mm diammeter you must re-open your lighter(body) to 1,2mm. The small opening of sleave is 1,1mm-the sleave must be hard fixed to pin.

The sound is exactly the same. I use my dupont daily for the past 4 years (opening it at least 40 times / day) and the sound still is sharper then yours. My problem is that the gaskets were leaking gas so I serviced my lighter to a service shop 2 years ago and they’ve lost the little screw from the lid. The lighter still sounds and works great, but I was wondering if I can purchase that screw from somewhere. Inside the cap / lid... there is a small hole. The screw is missing. I have other dupont lighters (ligne 2) and they all have the screws there. So either I’ve lost it (it unscrewed itself) or the service forgot to put it back. It’s too late to call them now as I recently discovered this.
What’s the point of that screw anyway?
