    It surprises me how much people actually care about that "sound" aspect. But what can we do when these represent luxury. Thank you for a very informative video. Im also in a progress of buying a St. Dupont lighter. Wish me luck in the auction.
    Edit: I did not win the auction as the price went out of my budget. But i did make an offer to my second best option and i won that one. I used this video and many more as my point of reference to authenticate. I picked a Gold Plated - Black Lacquer Line 1.

    I don't know if this helpful to anyone but I bought an imitation St Dupont lighter off of Amazon for 55.00. I compared it to my real one and it held up very very well. I took it far enough apart to find myself in spring hell for a few minutes and it was consistent with the quality one would expect from a well made product. My St Dupont almost always lights on the first strike and after the stress test on the Amazon one it sometimes took 2. I sprayed off the striker wheel, flint and gas nozzle with the air compressor and tightened an adjustment screw on the slide and captured-spring assembly and it's been fine since. Overall I was actually surprised with the products quality.
    And the ping is clear, rich and also resonated as well. My friend bought one like it and it did sound different but it still sounded excellent just in a different way and she is real happy with the purchase. They were both a bit higher pitched than my Dupont but I imagine the sound changes with time and the Dupont is older for sure.
    The imitation is not trying to market itself as an St Dupont. It says Chief and the seller is labeled as Malisseladi. An internet search didn't yield any results for either. If you're like me and don't want to carry your genuine article about, but love the style, I honestly can't recommend this lighter more. Is the St Dupont lighter better... yeah, is it a thousand plus dollars better? Definitely not. It's a prestige item and I love mine but if it's the style, functionality and durability that you are after this one certainly checks all the boxes.
    It would actually be kind of cool to see someone who knows more about these lighters do a tear down on this one! Maybe a side by side comparison?

      Ligne 2 has a nice resonating pitch, Ligne 1 is less flashy, more of a click.

    I’m not sure if you’re still active on this account but could I potentially get your advice on my Dupont?
    I removed the cover plate inside the cap of my ligne 1 to find a serial number which reassured me more after inspecting the main serial number on the bottom of the lighter.
    What is the best way to show you?

      Just post a short video on your channel. Although if your serial numbers match on bottom and under lid, I'd say your lighter is genuine. Once you've posted the clip, just let me know here. Thanks for watching.

      @@nicelight3475 Thank you so much. I am sorry but youtube is compressing it really badly and I have spent over an hour trying to fix this. Can you have a look at this: www.dropbox.com/s/pfl5p275bta9as8/comp.mp4?dl=0

      @@andreatamborini As yours is a Ligne 2, I always hesitate to identify them without having them in hand. That said, your stamping looks like legitimate, narrow fine stamping. The clip isn't clear enough to see the typeset variations, so I can't be conclusive. It also seems to have legitimate numbers. The best way for you is to take it to a jeweller and have it weighed, anything below 110grams and above 105grams is genuine. Above 110 for Ligne 2 is fake.

      @@nicelight3475 Thank you so much, I will probably take it to a jeweller and check. How about all the other details like the gree colour on the refill cap etc? Do they look right? The serial is very thin compared to the one in your video and doesn't show much offset. Here is the best pic I could take of it: www.dropbox.com/s/5rkyajpcqolujqj/IMG_3736.HEIC?dl=0

      @nicelight3475  3 года назад

      @@andreatamborini The offset is wrong. Most likely a replica. As I said I don't like addressing the authenticity of Ligne 2 DuPont without them in hand, and I also don't like giving people bad news. If you want total proof take it to your jeweller.

    First of all there are no Ligne 1 fakes, the faked one are Ligne 2.So the whole video should be made with Ligne 2,not this lighter.

      Thanks for watching. I explained in the clip that this is a guide for someone wanting to enter the market. Ligne 1 is the safest purchase. I wouldn't recommend buying a Ligne 2 as a "first" ST DuPont as there are so many fakes. Get an appreciation, spot the fakes yourself.

      Unfortunately it appears that they have decided to corner that market due to its previous security. They have just come out with new fake Soubreny and Ligne 1 models out on Aliexpress. (Although from the descriptions they clearly state that they are made in China)
      Serial Stamping they are using starts with 2FH on both of the fake models. I try to keep them updated on my list.
