This takes skill & patience and is truly a craft. Well done sir.
Takes a lot of time and energy just to learn before even attempting it without damaging anything. Especially watching out for carpal tunnel & cubital tunnel. My hands spasm randomly and fast after about an hour. That part sucks. Even after having surgery it comes back eventually with hours of vintage lighters of different designs that you aren’t used to. Sometimes I have to give up and continue the next day. But I love it too much. All metal is fun to work with and is almost always repairable with parts available or manufacturing your own through modifications since they are so tiny.

Extremely fine production and example of information without any distraction. I have 4 or 5 very nice Duponts all needing something. For one I have a nice black lacquer whose top is stuck open. It may be prudent before setting off in search of fixing them and surely they arte all genuine but not sure if we could work together or perhaps you coild point me in a more ideal direction

You do realise you don’t need to smash out the hinge pin and remove lid. With no flint and flint wheel installed the flint tensioner slides forward pushing on the roller shaft then pushing that spring in will let the tensioner lift up to remove.

I bought your kit online but I somehow still have the gas open even when the lighter is closed... i put all the rubber provided but was wondering if something may be missing? Hey, I have a Dupont Ligne 1 with the same type of gas adjustment as the one you're showing in this video. I have taken it all apart a dozen times now and changed all the seals. However, it still leaks from the top when the lid is closed and I can't figure out why. Do you have any idea what it could be?

This is a really great video! I had a question, that I was wondering if you could provide some advice on. I have a Ligne 1 small. It will put out fuel and the flint will spark but it won't actually light. If I hold a lighter up to it. The flint looks to be about half way. The wheel that scrapes the flint moves. Do you suspect that the flint might just be not enough? Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

@@DianTomov_ST_Dupont_Lighters Hi Dian, thank you for the reply! Yes if I turn up the fuel and put another lighter next to it, the lighter will catch a flame. I can hear the fuel as well if I turn it up. So I suspect it must be the flint. It is odd though as I can see spark. Where I live in the US there does not appear to be really any place to have it serviced so I appreciate your videos. Thank you!
@@AlosDiallo i know I'm late to the party but, when I get this issue with a simple Clipper i usually find that the issue comes from the wheel not the flint. Is dirty. Remove it and if you have that, try a sonic bath or brush it clean. Change it if you have access to parts.

Most people don’t know basic troubleshooting when vintage lighters always came with a pamphlet of basic instructions that people will never learn, just get upset and throw or pay $75 an hour to fix yheir sentimental item. Unfortunately for the average lighter, there’s no parts unless you find a parts lighter. These ones at least have Chinese copies, and that’s tare to say. I repair most vintage lighters for resale. Although I haven’t done dunhill or Dupont, I know every part. They are typically easier. But people bid too high to make it worth the time and money just for eBay to charge an immediate listing fee upfront, several other fees that don’t make sense, and ridiculous shipping fees (I need to figure out how to do it myself at fair market rates). Ebay makes more off my item than I do. And they don’t need an education or experience in 500,000 items. Lol

(Is Dian your first name or Surname?) Anyway, I noticed the lighter in this video has a solid centre stem and others (the larger lighters) have a hollow centre stem. I thought perhaps the solid centre stem was actually a hollow stem which is plugged. I guess not. I will need a filler adapter for this lighter I guess.

@@harvygalindo4444 you need a sponge. Guess where the only source you can get it from? A plastic adjustable flame lighter. Example: a clear $1 Chinese lighter. Unscrew the flame valve off completely and it’s directly under it. I believe you need two. Also take apart the flame valve and take every oring off including the stopper because it’s the only place to get those stoppers too. I collect empty ones and get them free. You meed them for all vintage lighters.
Hello, yesterday I bought a lighter like this, but it's not a DuPont, nor Dunhill or Cartier. It does not light itself, but when I put a flame near the big cylindrical piece, gas and flame come out of this, instead of the top.

Replace o ring and rubber pad
On my tall Line 1 I have dismantled the gas supply mechanism to the flame and am not sure how to put it back. It consists of some rubber O rings on a long shaft ,small felt washers on a tiny plunger and other parts. Please can you make a video on how to overhaul this.
I know it’s been 3 years but have you figured it out? If not look up lighters 2018, he has videos explaining this as he does it. Just look at the correct video for that section or type of lighter.
Hes the only one on RUclips with butane vintage lighter videos explaining a lot of the process. On eBay they have parts kit and a diagram that can make this part look easy. The sponges can only come from plastic adjustable lighters with the silicone stopper at the bottom. Save the sponge and all gaskets (o-rings) from the fuel out valve and gaskets from the refill valve if it has one. Try buying 3 packs of clear Chinese lighters for $1 at Family Dollar or the 7/8 Scripto pack from Walmart. Or the animal print/crocs from Dollar Tree. Or empty ones from anyone throwing them away. I collect every one and break them down into the parts possible to use. These parts always work.

I have a lighter similar to this but its much narrower and has an h-L screw on the bottom that adjusts the output of gas, only problem is that butane leaks out of the lh adjuster, any fixes?

I have a ligne 2 from the 90s and i tried filling it with yellow/gold gas, and replaced the flint, but when i light it, the flame is very small, even when it is turned up all the way on the bottom

you can repair the flame possition when you unscrew a cap screw, remove it and re-adjust the cap into right position.
which cap? the one that is covering the gas filling port, or the one that adjusts the flame size?
I HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM! It's annoying how difficult it is to find any information on this! Re-adjusting the cap into the "right" position doesn't answer the question at all.
Hi Dian, I have a lighter like this one, and have a problem cutting the gas flow when the lid is closed. I bought you the o'rings on ebay and changed them. But the problem persists after replacing the o'rings.

@@diezigno The guy I know cuts them by hand. They need to be just barely bigger than the snuffer. They hold in by themselves. Look up lighters 2018, he has a video on it and explains in detail. Thank me later.

Nothing, it will be works as Dupont gas. The difference between Dupont gas and normal one is that Dupont gas gas can be used more longer than standard one
