    My dear late wife had to learn the musical score of the New World Symphony for her GCE exams at school, so I found out after purchasing a new LP of it and trying to surprise her when I got it home and on to the Hi-Fi. She was so pleased because it was one of her favourite pieces of music still. So I still share my thoughts with her through this beautiful classic piece.

    So there's a piece of music I'd had stuck in my head for almost 25 years, from a compilation classical CD I got as a gift. I could remember how it sounded but nothing else, except that the word "dance" was part of the title. Well I finally used Google like I should have all along and the words "Anton Dvorak" and "Slavonic Dances" came up - and that sounded right, somehow. I knew the part I remembered started right at the beginning of the track, so dutifully I listened to the start of them all - no luck. Faulty memory perhaps? Today I tried again, on this video, and realized the version I had was edited down, started in the middle of the piece; specifically at 2:14:25, and suddenly this little splinter in my mind was lifted. Thank you, to whomever runs this channel, for helping me clear this silly mystery.

    Americans have a lot to thank Dvorak for. During his touring of America, he recommended that instead of simply emulating the music of europe, that we devise our own music based on traditionals. This would later take the form of Jazz and Hip Hop/Rap. I wonder what he would have thought about that?

    • @rangen5781
      @rangen5781 8 лет назад

      Don't spirituals pretty much do the same thing? The point is that Dvorak was one of the people that inspired modern American music, along with Debussy and Tchaikovsky. But yes I see your point. Thanks for reminding me.

    Why isn't every composition by Dvořák here, this is literally called "The Best of Dvořák".

    Great stuff - could be performed even better (more phrase dynamics - though emotionally valid and not contrived)...

    Best of Dvorak...really? No Humoresque, no Serenade for strings Tempo di valse, no Romance for piano and violin, no Skocna, no romantic pieces.

    ¿Si tuvieran que vincular a Dostoyevsky. Con algún maestro de la música, con quién lo harían?
