Terrific review, covers everything one would wish to know, in a calm and collected manner! Thank you.
Thanks John, I LOVE Peterson tuners.
great review, thank you!
This is a great video! I am getting one!
Great Tuners Too! Love the Schaller Grand Tune!
Very nice review , well delivered and thorough
Thank you!
Great review, just bought one for christmas for my nephew to use with his bass guitar. I'm sure he will be pleased with it looks i a nice bit of kit with good features.
Thanks Lee. These are the ‘Gold Standard’ of Clip-on tuners for me right now!
I think the main tuning note letter font is a function of the style of display. It’s an improved multi-segmented lcd display that doesn’t look like text displayed on an old calculator or like the sweetened tuning names to the right. Certain 2010’s Hondas share this display technology, and font.
Thanks for the great vid
You’re welcome!
I have used this tuner now for 6 months. I play a variety of instruments and being able to select guitar / mandolin / 12 string acoustic is really great. It allows me to really balance the double strings of the mandolin or 12 string and get the tuning dead on. My hearing is not what it used to be, so getting both mandolin strings dead on was difficult, but not anymore with this tuner. Very sensitive, but I find that mounting it closer to the treble strings gives a better reaction.
Thanks for sharing. Peterson tuners are really amazing!
I can’t believe how long it took me to get one of these. It’s flat out awesome.
Hi Seth. Me too! I use mine every day.
Love the retro look man!!!
This was 6 years ago!
@@aaronshortmusic I know I know hahhaha
@@jasper_north Maybe I’ll bring it back…
I bought one, but I think it is very hard to use vs other tuners. The display is always moving!
Looking for a clipon tuner to replace my pitch clip 2 for my spector euro 5 lt looking into getting one of these for it. Great review man
Thanks. I LOVE the Peterson tuners!
The multi tunings are very handy for studio / session musicians and especially for classical musicians (multi tuning temperaments)
Thank you Brian!
Just curious, when it stops spinning does it have to be under one of those blocks ? Or just had to stop spinning? Thanks
@@satchrules101It just has to stop spinning.
@@seanfried5583 Thanks bro!
Just bought one of these having been 'sold' the idea of perfection with the task of setting up my intonation with some trepidation. Out of curiosity, used it against my usual method i.e. a tuning fork in E I bought for 60 pence at a boot sale and my ears. I'm not pitch perfect by anyones standard. It was bang on. Would use it in a live/stage set up otherwise it and they just hinder you developing your hearing which is pretty useful when playing music.
It’s good that you are able to tune so well. Many people cannot do that! There’s also an argument that the guitar can never be perfectly in tune but I love using strobe tuners as I feel I start out from the best place every time. I use the pedal tuner live as it mutes my signal while I tune.
@@aaronshortmusic I do like my strobe tuner and the really BIG thing about this one is you can so easily seeit in most circumstances and for someone with impared vision and 'states of mind' its great. But I only learned to tune and hear notes by not using elec tuners etc and only my found tuning fork in E . Checked it on the strobe and its still bang on. When I started I had no idea you had to even tune a guitar :-)
ArkanTheClean The Rolling Stones didn’t either and it worked for them! It sounds like you may have perfect pitch.
The Nio I know but to tune a guitar perfectly with no reference pitch you would need to have perfect pitch :-)
The Nio Sorry I was confused. You mean that your tuning pitch was perfectly in tune!
i need strobe tuner for intonation, is this going to do the trick or for intonation should i just get the full blown pedal? im only playing electric and seldom need a tuner with floyds on all my rigs so looking for best value.
If you are playing electric only I would get the pedal version.
I couldn’t figure out how you were reading it to tell when its in or out of tune. I hope it comes with instructions because i plan to order one
It’s very easy. If you are used to different displays then it may take a few minutes to adjust. It’s well worth it for the speed and accuracy!
Super review. The battery they're using, the CR2032 is like the AAA battery of button cell batteries. Where I live you can get them in regular drugstores. As for the font, it's because someone didn't properly supervise the graphic designers or the marketing department, you can never turn your back on those people lol.
Ty good vif

Aaron how do you make a sweetened tuning, it seems like you need a science degree to understand on Petersons app
It has some presets. To make your own you connect to the computer via USB and use Google Chrome. I haven’t actually done it but I have used it for other editing which was quite easy.
Does this work for down tuning and extended range guitars?
Yes.
Works for me in drop g
Hi, I would like to know more precisely this tuner poly tunera 3? peterson clip specifically
I’m still using this tuner and still love it. It’s amazing!
@@aaronshortmusic
well, thanks, I ordered it to tune the intonation of the electric guitar, I think that with the sweetened settings will be much more accurate?

станислав ефремов Yes it’s great for that.

What if you don’t have a computer to update it? And how often do you need to update it?
You don’t have to update it.
Can it show how many cents off the note is, or be adjusted to tune to a certain cent like the Stroboplus HD can? I would like to be able to tune my guitar a few cents flat of true EADGBE on certain strings, for example, the B string to around -4 cents.
Yes it has the preset feature as well and can be managed from the tuner or your computer with a usb cable.
@@aaronshortmusic interesting. I wanted to get the Stroboplus just because I tend to lose clip on tuners, but I don't know that I can justify spending an extra $90 for that one for no reason when the stroboclip is so capable.
red_array Well it has a bigger screen, can attach to your pedalboard and can mute your signal while tuning. The other option is to get both eventually.
@@aaronshortmusic oh awesome thank you for the info, I wasn't sure what justified the extra dough
red_array You cannot go wrong with either!
Is it necessary to update this tuner? Or can I use it right away
You can use it right away but I suggest that you update the firmware with a computer when you can.
@@aaronshortmusic
thanks, what does the update affect? for accuracy?
станислав ефремов The main thing is that the tuner turns on faster with the latest updates.

can use for digital piano? pls reply
Hi there, I don't understand why you would need an electronic tuner for a digital Piano. Can you please explain further...
@@aaronshortmusicIt is to find out which voice my piano uses stretch tuning.
busturz 4b It will work as long as there is a place to clip it on... The pedal version may be better. I reviewed it recently.
How long does the battery last
Around 20 hours.
How is this thing set to default.
Factory reset can be found here: www.petersontuners.com/support/stroboClipHD
@@aaronshortmusic thanks Aaron. It's a bit more of a pain than I though. I just got it ser on some miscellaneous tuning and could get it back to standard guitar EADGBE with A=440. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Be well and stay safe.
@@theccpisaparasite8813 You’re welcome.
Why do you need firmware?
They improved the turn on time and you can manage the built in tunings. Everything has firmware now it seems!
The problem is that it is not BRIGHT ENOUGH. You can increase the brightness to 7 but it doesn’t help
I never had that problem but I don’t use it outside.
Thought your tuning was rushed and rubbish, could have gone sharp on some notes so we could see the sensitivity properly.
Is this a chromatic tuner?
Yes it is!
@@aaronshortmusic Thanks
I still have zero idea how to use this tuner. ;) you never explained this :(
Hi. This was a review. There is a small learning curve over other tuners. I will try to make more videos on it in the future. I have some interviews with the company that go over some of it.
Gawd! Fix that wood wall! Old English goes a long way. Mind you, don't get a splinter from all that frayed wood....
It’s tough to keep it humidified too!
I do understand how a analog strobo tuner is extremely precise, but I do not understand why a digital strobo tuner is supposed to be more precise than a clip tuner which could simply display the tuning as a number with 0.1 cent precision. Isn't the strobo display just a gimmick or what am I missing here?
I cannot easily and readily ascertain what is trying to be conveyed by the display on this mechanism. Its appearance is schizophrenic in nature; much like an unpredictable stratus cloud that is displaced by heavy traffic.
Just way too fiddly, especially on stage; the wheel just never really stays still; maybe it requires practice!
It doesn’t need to. As long as it’s almost still then it’s more in tune than most.
The instructions don't make that clear, so thank you🙂
yeah///////////////////////////////////// just got it///////////////////// where are these so called sweetened tunings fo strat and 12 string dad gad whats up??????? why the easter egg hunt and why doesnt anyone who makes these very ommisive video put the ONE THING WE ARE TRYING TO LEARN IN THE VIDEO?????????????????????????????????????????????
Just cycle through them with the main button. If you want to add more then connect it to your computer (Google Chrome) browser and you can add more.
I will just say this. This is the most relevant innovation for tuning. step 1 a guitar can not be tuned ..... that is just the sad fact. BUT it can be "sweetened" (that means fake to favor major and minor third but you will suffer certain casualties.) I did guitar the sweetened tuning (yes just one) for guitar and its "guitar" but the adjustment is well lets just say I have several techs tell me what ed used and many others and I would like to tweak them.... here we go with TV remote hell or worse. If we could get more operational access to info all would be good. And then of course there is"the app" and I am guessing you can not science lab out and save sweetened tunings via the gui like a fractal ua ox or kemper. WHICH WOULD SAVE THE CIVILIZED world. End of rant..
