    I was Technical Director for the Beluga XL, so I can confirm it's based on an A330, 1.5m wider and 6m longer than the Beluga ST - to allow transport of pairs of A350 wings. It is powered by RR Trent 700 engines and we did not build anything bigger based on A380 as the Beluga XL is the biggest aircraft we can operate in Broughton and Bremen. A beautiful beast 👍

      isnt that a project from the early 2000's i remember reading about A330ST and the proposed A340ST variant or they were both considered as a starting point at one time ? before XL ?

    Next up, since the A380 is retiring and being scrapped.
    The Airbus A380-800 Beluga Colossal.
    The second deck is replaced by a big compartment that takes up the whole length of the aircraft. The cockpit is modified and lowered to make space for the Cargo Door.
    The current engines would be too weak for the plane, so strap on 4 GE9X's on there. The wings would be lifted by a few meters to accommodate the GE9X Engines.
    It's a silly idea, and I don't even think that it would physically work.

      @maxchilla732 7 лет назад +19

      The A380 wont be stable without its middle Deck so you cant remove that Like in a 747 .So its Not useful as a freighter for high dimension Cargo. You would have two seperated Cargo Decks with a "wall" in between.

    • @Jkennyy_
      @Jkennyy_ 7 лет назад +3

      ah right i see i'm surprised there is no way to overcome that issue though

    • @maxchilla732
      @maxchilla732 7 лет назад +5

      Well you could use it For a Lot small Cargo such as packages... But The Market for such a huge plane which is Not able to carry high dimension Cargo isnt there. 747-8F fits The needs.

    Nice and if airbus is concerned about Nox emissions they should have adapted the GE CF-6 E1A4 since it has lower Nox than the Trent 700 which would power this Beluga XL. Nox Emissions for both CF-6E1A4 and Trent 700 is taken from the ICAO emissions databank. Another use for the Beluga XL is transporting ISS components just like the Original Beluga for ESA

      Its because the 747 and 757 became a thing and took over the market. Why else was the Airbus a380 made? To have a larger plane than Boeing has. I bet there will be outrage when the Boeing 797 comes out and again takes over the market as it will be a newer 757. After that Airbus has to improve the a350 or a320 to match it and make better models. Its a never ending cycle.
