    Holy cow, check it out, the video team at Motor Trend made a terrific show out of our impish hooliganism! What fun to make, and I really enjoyed even watching. And I have never in my life laughed harder than when we were shooting the scene where I'm hanging out the window shouting "I'M TALKIN' DOUGHNUTS!" It's, really, really hard to drift and NOT look where you want to go, hahaha.

      +Eyston Austin We had planned to do a little more with that ending, and it necessitated opening the hood. Let's do say it was for cooling the turbos.

      +Jay Hagan When you're going that fast, a single small mistake will end you. That's exactly what happened. The fastest lap times are the ones that push the car *right* to the line without crossing it, and that requires nothing short of perfection. Driving is easy; driving very very fast is insanely difficult. The precision involved is mind-blowing. AWD cars like the GTR in particular are very unforgiving.

    Great show, Schneider National (Trucking Company) used to have a skid pad to teach truck (semi) drivers how to recover from a skid, exact same no brakes no gas and steer to where you want to go, the fist time they induced the skid it scared the crap out of me, but after a few try's it actually felt comfortable. Had to use it one time and it worked.

    Motor Trend,
    Thank you for giving one of the best, brightest, most thoughtful personalities in this industry the platform he deserves and more importantly the content the community desperately needs.
    The production quality was excellent, and the writing on point with nice quick beats. It is like an automotive version of Alton Brown's "Good Eats". Pobst even looks a little like Alton.
    Here is to hoping this show lives up to its potential. You guys are doing arguably the best mainstream automotive content right now and the fact that this got made is a clear indicator that someone with half a brain is in control. I can't wait to see what's next.
    ---------
    Pobst,
    You are awesome.
    From kicking cones with a golf in a parking lot to whipping an M5 up up pikes peak in one of the greatest (and unfortunately least remembered) race series in history, you have had one of the coolest careers I can think of. The kind of career with a transparent narrative an amateur like me can look at and think, if even for a second, that I could play ball too if only I put my mind to it. The fact is, I probably can't, but the only way I'll ever find out is if I get to the track and try. Forget those F1 divas and 1%er gentleman drivers, that makes you a true inspiration.
    It has been awesome watching your presenting chops/on screen personality develop over the past few years with MT. I am incredibly happy that you now have a platform to yourself. I can only imagine it having a net positive impact on the industry and community.
    Thanks and I can't wait to see the next episode.

      +zombiecheef If you look at technique #4 there is a brief cutscene of him pulling the handbrake, and there is a manual shifter. they probably decided to leave out clutches for this video for simplicity.

    But most importantly you need a locking rear diff... or snow or rain, otherwise on the dry drifting with an open diff is very hard

    The scariest thing that can happen in a car is trying to drift a FWD.
    This show is making Randy a better driver. But do the same comparison on a loose surface with a driver who's familiar with the technique and see which is faster.

    Also, Randy Pobst is my spirit animal!

    Yeah! It´s a pretty nice idea to produce a show that focuses on driving and is hosted by a pro driver with decades of experience. And Randy Probst is the man! I´m looking forward to the next episodes.

    Wow, good on you Motor Trend, this is looking like a great show. Randy Pobst is just such a knowledgeable person I could listen to him talk about driving all day.

  • @maxpowers3732
    @maxpowers3732 7 лет назад +7

    3:25 He says to stay away from the pedals. So if you're driving and the car oversteers do you let off the pedals or just keep on them with the same pressure? Isn't there something called "lift off oversteer" when you lift off the gas and the weight moves towards the front? What about with a manual car? Should you do anything with the clutch?

    • @SI0AX
      @SI0AX 7 лет назад +4

      Don't touch the clutch during an oversteer! That is suicide! It would be the same as shifting to neutral in an automatic.
      What you're supposed to do is "neutral throttle". Which means to back of the throttle to the point where you hold the same speed(neither accelerating nor deceleratting A.K.A coasting). What you said is true, and coming off the throttle in certain cars will produce "lift-off oversteer".
      The rear engine RWD Porsche is the best example of a car that will lift off oversteer *very* easily.

    • @kimjunguny
      @kimjunguny 5 лет назад

      Incorrect use of the pedals like instantly getting off the gas in some cars will cause snap overseer. Some if not most slides you need to power through, preferably keeping around the same amount of gas as you had before. If you are on a loose surface soft application of the brake can settle the car back down and is a great way to regain control and reduce wheel spin, but still stay on the gas. Not so much on pavement though.

      +MOPAR Or No Car / ABRAMS Or No Tank why would it be boring to drive? yes, it may have all the futuristic electronic wizzardy stuff but as i watched the gtr reviews, you really need to drive it to experience it, its not boring, but too much perfect, and it surely made a trend in doing so (the 918, la ferrari and the p1 for an example)
