If you have balls of steel, wouldn't that make your car heavier?
That's why Randy doesn't recommend more balls. He understands WEIGHT REDUCTION BRO

+Ryan Squires Double clutching? Are you driving a massive old 16-wheeler with no synchro? If you are, then you'll already know double clutching. If not, then stop taking racing advice from Fast And Furious. Double clutching is certainly not a racing technique.
Heel-toe on the other hand, learn that shit!

+UrbanNinja747 Lol yes, double clutching isn't a racing technique, it's a technique for truckers.

This was brilliant and subtle. What Randy is really saying is: the situation is fluid. Nothing stays the same. Brakes, tires, engines heat and cool; tanks empty, weight/balance change. Frustration happens. If you have no advantage, create one. Love that line "fill his mirrors". Fake a pass - inside, outside, corners, straights. Make him roast HIS sh!t, till you get that mistake. Great vid.

I love doing motorcycle trackdays. I am fast enough to ride intermediate group but on one occasion, it was overbooked, so I rode with the beginner group. Passing on the inside wasn't allowed for the beginner groups. So I had to make all my passes on the outside. Brake late into the corner and carry more speed, wait for them to turn into the apex, add more speed and lean farther to maintain your wide line. Once you've passed, get on the gas hard so that you can barely make the widest exit line. Oh, I felt my balls drag the pavement that day.

    Randy,
I was surprised and pleased that you mentioned the late Paul Hacker. We ice raced Corvairs against one another when we both started out. We also had an impromptu race leaving a Mo-Hud meeting one evening. It was probably the only time I ever beat him! Entrance ramps for the win! When we parted ways on the interstate, I slowed down and was promptly pulled over by an Albany cop. I explained that we were both race drivers and surprisingly, he didn't write me a speeding or reckless driving ticket but did admonish me not to race on the road. (Good advice kids - don't do it! Take it to the track)
Paul went the tin top route and I went to formula cars. I should have gone Paul's route. I didn't have the financial resources to be really competitive in FC and FF. In any event, Paul was probably the better driver and he was surely braver than I.
Paul and Karl subsequently ran a little go kart oval which Mo-Hud would take over once a year for fun racing. It's been closed for a few years now.
    Ah the good old days.
BTW - nice series and a fun presentation - thanks for this and for your SCCA work.
    - Dave

Even with a small power to weight ratio advantage, you will likely need that draft, and also good braking, to secure the pass. Probably not best to think of these methods as independent, more often than not several are gonna be in play at the same time. (Gonna have to nail that last turn so you can be close enough to draft down the straight to get the opportunity to TRY to out-brake your opponent into turn one. And it might take a few tries.)
Also I would like to add one more idea to this list. Sometimes the safest way to make a pass on someone of very similar speed is to wait for a mistake to pounce on. Patience Patience - not crashing is always the best plan for a good result. More balls might win you a pass, or MAYBE a race, but never a season. Randy is a rock star.
