I know im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a tool to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
+Chicken Soup They use racing lines, too, but the radius is so huge that it's really not obvious. It's also pretty impressive to see them chuck those heavy beasts around places like Sears Point and Road America.
+Chicken Soup you sir are clueless. NASCAR drivers must follow an even more strict line than road courses. every NASCAR driver got their start as a successful driver somewhere else first and most certainly would make you look like a 3 year old downs patient on any track.
+rob brown Hmm, I'm not sure I'd say that have a line that's more strict; however, any variations in that line will result in losing maybe a tenth of a second, which, while on a road course isn't a huge deal, on an oval that's massive. Some tracks like Charlotte, California, Homestead-Miami, etc have a variety of lines, any of which can be faster depending on the tires and setup.
computiNATEor well said and my thoughts exactly. you must pick your line, where your car is fastest, and then like you said, if you fuck up one little bit, boom there goes 15 spots.
These Racing Line episodes are perhaps the best pieces of automotive content on RUclips. Pobst is a great host and these videos are extremely well put together
Thank you so much! I have never really understood the relationship between the shortest route and the fastest route! Also going slower to go faster makes sense because you don't blow the apex out!
I honestly have to say every show on the motortrend channel is just fantastic. Roadkill, Dirt everyday, ignition, etc. the hosts are great, they are very well produced, the have a great balance of humour and information. Even the ad reads are good because they can relate the ad to the original topic of the video. Definitely my favourite channel on RUclips.
For some reason this show feels like the Bill Nye the science guy of racing concepts. I really enjoy the way it is shoot and delivered. Looking forward to the next episode..
Why does this video skip in the playlist? This my fav new DRIVING show ever!! Prolly only one so far!! Randy Pobst is Driving inspiration and truth!! Thanx MT
Another great episode, it seems with every episode I watch I learn the verbiage necessary to geek out about racing to less enthusiastic fans. I'd love to see an episode about driving stick. it was easy for me to teach my son but communicating with others I stagger with word choice.... yours always seem to be on point.
Whilst it may be true that racing lines are more relevant than ever, in this day and age, I feel that reading in-between the lines to be far more fruitful and practical
Can you guys do a video with the differences in the racing line for formula cars, street cars, brake zones, power out of corner areas for crappy brakes - big power, big brakes - crappy power, trail braking, and other factors and scenarios that I'm sure I'm not even aware of.....I LOVE the Motor trend content, I learn something new all the time, favorites are Roadkill, Racing Line, Ignition, etc, Keep them all coming! I think you guys should do a contest to do some hot laps with Randy, assuming he is ok after that explosion at 5:25!
One of the most important skill to identify & use for any racing, in games & real world. I already know the line from numerous hours of watching Le Mans & GT racing, but a cool video nonetheless.
Great info Randy! I'm glad he brought up late apex on a decreasing radius, bump, and off camber turns, i seem to have trouble with this type of corner not hitting the apex late enough.
I would say arc length rather than radius. With same amount of traction or (same car) the wider you go, the more arc length you gain. Ie, entering a corner at 19.4 m/s with a turning angle of 20.93 degree with a track width of 17.6m, your arc length is about 98.3 meters (from turn in to apex) and 98.3 meters from apex to turnout. Speed increased to 19.6 m/s, with 0.23 degree gain due to mild over steer, arc length decreased to a shorter 98.29 meters from turn inm 98.29 from apex to turnout. One more try, speed increased to 24m/s which gains just 0.21 degree of turning angle due to under steer, arc length increased to 98.31 meters. So that, there's a certain speed that'll give you the best combine of steering angle and speed. So, mild over steer does cut the distance travelled. It's a good method. Just remember, more loosing (mild over steer or under steer) means less acceleration at turnout, especially for most AWD cars and this is why I have to point out why GTR is a good car with the rear wheel biased all wheel drive system. However, more speed with same amount of steering angle will cause you more time to travel. Although more speed means less brake, however, cornering distance depends more on lateral speed.
Randy Pobst, one of the best personalities in motor world. Who agrees?
+Nik Brudar Totally.
+Nik Brudar I'm a big Randy Pobst fan.
Then again I like all the personalities at MT.
Adam S they are all alright! Albeit Randy remains the most entertaining, yet informative and educational one.
+Adam S (Dolby109) Expect jason
Paul Shelton what's wrong with him? He can be entertaining..
Motor Trend...........KEEP THIS UP!!
+nezerac That's the plan!
+Motor Trend Channel You should do an episode on driving in the rain/wet conditions.
+joszer
Agreed, a good excuse to get Randy doing doughnuts if nothing else
joszer
I second that! I've noticed that we don't see so much wet racing in the states.
+Motor Trend Channel Nice
if my ninth grade geometry class taught me about ways to reduce lap times around a track I would've paid more attention in class...
If only geometry cared about going along the shapes than the shapes itself, which 'defines' geometry...

+Aneesh S
Randy Pobst for Prime Minister!
(or President or whatever.)
+Aneesh S Agreed, this guy is one of my favorite personalities on the show.
This would be considered astrophysics to a NASCAR driver

Randy is The Man. I can watch this guy for hours.
Thank you so much! I have never really understood the relationship between the shortest route and the fastest route! Also going slower to go faster makes sense because you don't blow the apex out!
This guy is a legend. Videos don't last to long but give Alot of information in them. Absolute brilliant

after years of GT and Forza, I finally understand the point of why the racing line is the way it is. Thank you. Great series
Love this show! Randy is the best
He's the best part of Motor Trend. Oh and Roadkill.
For some reason this show feels like the Bill Nye the science guy of racing concepts. I really enjoy the way it is shoot and delivered. Looking forward to the next episode..

Randy, keep up the good work and levity...you epitomize having fun in racing, which sometimes is forgotten in the fog of competition.

Fantastic aerial shots and graphics. The visuals really compliment Randy's great explanations.

I still want to see what Randy can do with the Corvette-Kart.
Im rewatching these videos cause I'm going to race on a track for the first time in my life
good guy randy teaching us all
Motor Trend, these are great. The driver/presenter is awesome. Keep making more of these!
Can't wait to use this on public roads.
Good show!
Hooray Cadillac! It might be fun to see how much overlap there is between the production cars, race cars, and maybe a Cimarron.
One of the most important skill to identify & use for any racing, in games & real world. I already know the line from numerous hours of watching Le Mans & GT racing, but a cool video nonetheless.
Randy has gotten so good at hosting
I enjoyed that. Some simple, but effective tips. Go Randy, go Randy...oh...sorry. Got a little carried away there.
Oh good, thanks Randy, now I can beat my kids at those X-Box driving games!
better than racing school !!
Great info Randy! I'm glad he brought up late apex on a decreasing radius, bump, and off camber turns, i seem to have trouble with this type of corner not hitting the apex late enough.
Don't we all
Excellent episode
Thanks I like this show and info.

Love these videos but my favorite part so far has to be in this video starting at 6:36. Thanks guys. Thanks Randy.
Love this show
another way to view it is the racing line is the path around the track where steering is minimized
Randy is the best!
Great episode! Loved the birds-eye visualizations and the acting chops on Randy XD
This guy is the Bill Bye of Motor Trend.
Remember, during the day on a mountain road, the double yellow IS the apex. During the night however, apex is the apex
gotta say i love randy pobst as a hot, he knows what hes doing and a very fun, quirky guy to watch
Sometimes I just skip passed the reviews so I can watch randy hot lap it. I enjoy these segments though.
