dig the new aesthetic
Cool board, pretty similar to my Salomon Super 8. The 3D nose and backseat camber really suit my turn style when the snow is deep. Tends to make my back leg tired really fast in other conditions.
Amazing review. I own a 158 Ravine and found it a bit soft and the nose sloppy. Especially we traversing to find some powder. I eventually purchased a 158 Rome Mountain Division that offers the explosive support I like about the MOD and missed when riding the Ravine. I wish they didn't discontinue the Mountian division. I am hoping the Ravine Select will fill the void. Side Note: I hope the Blur is now just the Speed Freak. Another board that was too amazing to discontinue. Rider= 5'8, 170 pounds, Boot size 10
I’m about 6’1” 185lbs. Bought the 2021 ravine select 158 and I was really unsure if it would be long enough … but I used the recommendations in the comments here and Angry was right. Definitely feel like it’s the right size for me. I can imagine the nose on the 163 would feel huge and would be great for strictly pow days in open runs and bowls etc but too long for navigating trees and side hits quickly which I like to do. This thing was like a missile through the 3-6 inches of soft snow I was riding today and it’s surprisingly nimble and quick edge to edge. Would recommend.
I've never been on a board with the 3-D shape in the nose. How does it carve and hold an edge?
@@fizzled95 Ravine is my daily driver. The 3D nose shape feels like you’re riding a skateboard with your front trucks looser than the rear. Ridden this ravine so much between the park/groomers/pow im thinking about selling my mercury and grabbing a select
Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.
Sweet board. How would this compare to the capita mercury. I live close to Banff and like to ride powder, trees, steep terrain and like to go hard. Sometimes I ride switch and cruise through the park but not too often and like to butter sometimes. You think this would be a good board or can u recommend something's else. Awesome reviews too!!
Have you even looked at either of these two? They really sit in two different categories.
@@AngrySnowboarder ya I guess. I'm just asking cause I have a 2017 mercury now.
Hey Brian, Angry S., this is really interisting, Mercury have been my go-to deck for everything past 8 years and this is not gonna change. But i'm really looking into buying Ravine Select as bit sitffer more pow pow deck that can charge faster and harder on groomers. Maybe striaght lines through the park. Basically I want it as my resort/pow deck with Capita staying on park/resort side. Would you agree ? Thanks.
@@MatusiSK buy the ravine, treat the park like a wave and surf it. It wants to turn and wiggle more than it wants to go straight. This thing is a quiver killer and it made me hate my mercury. This thing is fun from the white ribbon of death all the way above the treeline
For someone who prefers rocker and hybrid rocker profiles (mainly only for catch-free, relaxed, stand-up riding on the cat tracks), how does this setback s-shape profile compare?
Kind of like a camrocker that's missing the tail rocker.
Yo! Love the reviews man! Was looking for a surfy-feeling powder/free ride geared board that I can really throw throw around in the trees and is quick/maneuverable, but still had decent stability and edge hold for hitting lil side kickers and groomers. Was looking at the Burton Skeleton Key, LibTech Orca and Rome Stalefish, and was leaning towards a 150 Orca (i’m 5’9, 160lbs) until I stumbled upon this lil gem. I was potentially worried about the turn initiation/ edge to edge quickness on the Orca and thought the Ravine Select might be a more nimble, more surfy alternative to the Orca better suited for the trees, but wanted to make sure the Ravine would still check all the boxes that the Orca did outside of the trees and pow. Any thoughts? Much love.
The Ravine hits everything you're looking for, swoop one.
@@AngrySnowboarder much love. thank you for the quick reply.
@@ilovekrayonz I've had a Burton skeleton key the past two years and Im looking for an upgrade to the select. Did you end up getting one? I was also looking at the orca, hometown hero, and hovercraft.
@@markkuligoski1022 I ended up getting a Korua Shapes Tranny Finder. Sick board at a good price. highly recommend.
How do the 23 models of the Ravine Select and Jones Mind Expander stack up against each other?
New ME got camber so it's closer to a regular Ravine now, while the Ravine Select has flax impact plates and sidewalls added to it making for a stiffer more damp ride.
hello. great review as always. which length should I choose for a weight of 82 kg? 155 or 158 ?
55 for more playful dicking around tighter trees 58 for more open pow and charging.
@@AngrySnowboarder thx.
tell me one more thing, I have a dancehaul but it disappointed me in deep snow, besides it's a great board, great for fun but I'm looking for something new that will be better on pow days, do you think ravine select will be ok? I also thought about the orca but I don't like it for normal riding in the resort, I also considered stalefish or solo sims ...I like fast carving, days in powder but the board is also supposed to ride well in worse conditions in the resort…
@@Aroxyz get the Ravine Select
@@AngrySnowboarder seriously ? will it be the best choice for me ?
@@Aroxyz You can pay me $50 dollars on the Angrysnowboarderstore.com to hold your hand and tell you it will be OK. Or you can become a fucking man, reach up your munt pull your balls out and say I will make this work. I have done my research. I can snowboard!
The 3d diamond spooning on the nose of the board, does it start after the front contact point or before?
When carving, does it produce a loose feel when engaging the front contact point (like other lifted contact point tech, up-rised fenders) or does it engage immediately ?
BW
It basically moves the contact point back towards the front foot. It's a little looser that's for sure but if you're looking for precise edge bite then don't do anything with 3D shaping.
Hey Angry! Looking for an all mountain quiver of one deck to play around the mountain, good for chasing pow and some park laps. My trick bag is basically some 360s on small-medium jumps and hitting some rails either straight or sideways. Would this board have me covered or would I be better off looking at the standard ravine, the agent or the national?
Do you need a stiffer version of the Ravine? Yes? Oh well there's your answer. No? Oh look another answer.
@@AngrySnowboarder yeah I think I'd go for the standard one, I prefer the playfullness. However comparing the ravine to the agent or national what would work best for what I described?
@@ignacioarosteguiiturriaga3733 Ravine is what you probably need if you're looking for a more pow focused deck, otherwise maybe the National.
Do you think the float difference between the 152 and 155 would be noticeable at all since all the widths/specs are similar? Obviously there's the added surface area but everything is so close between the two, just wanted insight.
I've lost a shit load of weight recently (weigh like 140 with gear). I have the opportunity to pick up lasts years 152 for cheap but considered if it would be worth it to get the newer 55 for pow.
Save the cash, get the 52, spray skiers.
@@AngrySnowboarder solid advice. The Jerry's are heavy during the holidays.
@@AngrySnowboarder curveball, K2 instrument or the Ravine select?
Softer more playful Instrument, want to kill skiers Ravine Select.
Yo so I’m a beginner to intermediate rider. Not looking to hit the park but looking for a board where I can shred down the mountain with. I absolutely love the design and look of this board. Do you think I could buy this board and enjoy riding it or do you think this thing would be to hard of a board to ride for me, to the point that I wouldn’t enjoy riding it? What do you guys think? Need guidance!
No.
@angry, alright well if not this bird then do you have any direction for me on what kind of boards I should be looking at?
*board
@@joshuapage3398 Yes Basic, K2 Raygun, Rossignol Templar. Start there.
What do you prefer riding between this, the Ravine and the Jones Stratos?
Ravine.
@@AngrySnowboarder what's the downsides of the Stratos?
I was Just about to make the purchase on the Stratos until I came across the Ravine.. Now I don't know what to do 🙄
Nothing.
how this board compare to Yes PYL ans Jones Stratos ? in terms dampness and speed
More like the PYL less like the Stratos in terms of dampness. Speed is all on how fast you want to go.
Ive been riding for 3 years but havent had much chance to snowboard ive gone like 8 times, ive been renting when i go to a mountain but i'd like to own my own board. What yal thikn about this?
No.
bro you’re fucking noob and this board is for advanced riders, go buy something on craigslist you don’t need a fucking ferrari if you’re still in drivers ed
Hey man !Is this board a little bit softer than the iguchi pro camber or a lot softer?
This specific Ravine Select is softer.
@@AngrySnowboarder thank you , I found a good deal on the 2022 one, did they make it stiffer?
23 is stiffer.
Hey Angry, can you please give me an advise on what to choose between the Korua Otto 157 and the Ravine Select 158? The Ravine select is on sale now on a local shop, and i can get it at the same price as the Otto.
I have only ridden a rocker 156 DC board (medium flex), and enjoy riding pow, and fresh groomers, not much into freestyle, beside occasionally some sidehits.
I'm a bit worried that the select would be to stiff, and a bit to large. Do you think that the 2 cm in length make a large difference?
Thank you, and keep up the good work.
Well without reference to your stats I don't fucking know.
@@AngrySnowboarder 174/175cm (5.7 ft) tall and around 75kg (165 pounds)
Get the Ravine.
Rome no longer uses aspen wood for its cores. Brand dead.
What world do you magically live in that they aren't using Poplar?
