CRAZY BASEBALL STUNT in the TALLEST UPPER DECK!! (Restricted area at the Oakland Coliseum)

- The front row of "Mount Davis" is approximately 113 feet above field level, so of course I tried to catch a baseball there. Did I succeed? Was this a bad idea?!
Thanks to Oakland A's bullpen catcher Dustin Hughes, I got to enter the stadium SEVEN HOURS before game time and explore the biggest and weirdest oddity in any Major League Baseball stadium: Mount Davis, which is is the nickname of the humongous center field structure. It was built in 1995 to increase the seating capacity by 20,000 and help attract the NFL's Raiders to Oakland, but over the past 17 years, this area has only been open for baseball games three times! It's pretty much abandoned at this point and completely off-limits to fans, so this was truly a unique experience.
I also got to hang out on the field and play catch (including testing out a "mutant baseball"), and after all of this took place, I attended the game against the Detroit Tigers (and saw Miguel Cabrera), so that's why this video is 26 minutes long. So much cool stuff kept happening!
Shoutout to the A's other bullpen catcher, Wilkin Castillo, for playing catch with me after the stadium opened. I forgot to mention him in the video, so I'm doing it here. Shoutout to my videographer and editor on this one: Rachel Messbauer. And of course Dustin Hughes (@dhog91 on Instagram) deserves the biggest thanks of all. He's amazing. That's all I can say.
This video was filmed on September 21, 2023. Thanks for watching!
Zack seems like the worlds happiest kid. Spread the vibes always
:D
You realize he’s actually not a kid? He’s in his 40s.
He’s a manchild
True
Amazes me there are people that talk shit about him, hell right here in this thread. Guy is enjoying life and idiots make fun because they think you have to be a miserable prick at that age I guess. Their lives don't give them as much happiness as Zack gets with his and they have to bring him down. There are people out there hurting kids, other adults, animals, etc. and they choose to make fun of a man not hurting anyone and just enjoying his baseball filled life. I know these people, I use to be one so I know how the are and why they do it. At a point you either work on your own problems anf find happiness or continue to be a loser in youtube comment sections talking shit
Seeing the view from mount Davis is a trip. My first time going to a Raiders game was at the very top, possibly right in the section you were in.
Funny how the team with the least amount of fans has the most seats
Nah fans just got tired of getting treated like 💩 losing all home grown stars and 💩
2:16 whichever A's Employee wrote "Sell Fisher" on the chair is an absolute legend for that
Could've been a player!
@@zackhamplewas that in the batting cages room?
@@cadengreco no it was in one of the alcoves under the bleachers, storage for seats and gear used for football that doesnt play there anymore. The humidor for ball storage is under the right field side. As is one of the original John Deere tractors from 1968
@@daltonsband great eye
Man that’s awesome, I’ve been going to A’s games my whole life and have never been up on Mount Davis.
To be at the coliseum that early before the game, and play catch on the field. Literal dream of mine.
Glad I could share this with you.
Mt Davis was pretty much just open for Raider games. You might be young? But back in the day, for #OaklandRaiders games, Mt Davis was packed! Its so steep, it's scary... like basically 4/5 of the seats at chase center, where multiple ppl have fallen from. I talked to a (very large, very strong) security guard once who said he had to break up a fight up there... nightmare fuel! Anytime I'm up in the 300s im holding onto a rail, a seat, something.
This is one of my favorite videos of yours and I’ve been watching since 2016. I love getting to see the weird, restricted areas within stadiums. So cool.
It's one of my faves too! Thanks.
Zack could save Oakland baseball with his love for the coliseum.
By now MLB should realize how precious and important he is to baseball.
Thank you from the Netherlands.
2:16 “SELL FISHER” in an employee-only area. Good to see! SELL THE TEAM!
Its an embarrassment to the league. Its one thing to have a few bad seasons(say this as a Rangers fan since the 90s), but another to intentionally tank your team and insult the local fan base.
@@sunny1992s so disrespectful. What else is funny is that the MLB saw they were being out-paced by NFL and NBA, so they implemented the pitch clock, and ghost runner for extra innings, but moving the A's out of Oakland, CA?? is making the MLB look SO MUCH WORSE than being a "boring, too long" sport. Manfred acting like he WANTS the MLB to die! My guess? he's taking payoffs from the owners. Can the #FBI PLEASE investigate THAT!
@@sunny1992s He owns the Earthquakes, MLS team in Sunnyvale, CA, also... I haven't been to a game there but I heard they chant "F8%# JOHN FISHER!!" on a regular basis. A's fans are so much calmer, and nicer than ur average futbol/soccer fans, but I was still surprised they didn't do that stadium-wide for the last game. EDIT to add: and apparently he's lowballing players and team staff there the same way he did us, under his ownershiop they went from a top team to a bottom team, just like the A's. But soccer fans are dif, so they GET AT HIM there.
Loved seeing all the love for Miggy throughout the season, especially in the final game…⚾️💜
What an amazing career…
Lots of Miggy love coming soon on my channel . . .
Super cool that Dustin hooked up the exclusive access!!! Though definitely a valid decision to not count balls from it. I wonder if anyone has hit one up Mount Davis during BP. I know the roof of the top deck at Globe Life Park has been hit once or twice, but to hit one as far and as high as Mount Davis is definitely a task. (P.S. loving these later uploads! A nice treat before I go to bed!)
Glad you're enjoying the nighttime posts. I would've uploaded this one sooner but the editing was CRAZY and took forever.
What a great video. I really appreciate it.
I went to my first game at the Coliseum in 1972. I plan on flying in for a day game and back home this coming May 2024. One hell of a day trip. I need to come out and say goodbye to a stadium that meant so much to me. Raiders, A's, Oakland Invaders, Day on the Green Concerts not to mention the Warriors next door and several indoor concerts. This venue has been a big part of my life.
Thanks again!
Doug

Wow! Love the behind the scenes access Zack. But all the credit goes to your Videographer for the footage and keeping up with you. Great job and big love from Scotland ❤
Thanks so much and I'll make sure that she sees your comment.
I don't know how I'm going to make it in the off-season without having your videos to look forward to every week:(
Well, you still got a bunch more on the way in 2023.
@@zackhample Looking forward to it!! Can't wait to see what other adventures and shenanigans you have in store!
Looking forward to the next Q n A, hope I’m in it. Great video Zack.
that "random area" is called minus 22, because we're below sea level, and there's an elevator up to mt Davis. love that he made you take the stairs.
lol right!! I was thinking the same thing.
thank you for the tour of this icon stadium. Been there many times growing up for A's and Raiders games. So sad to see the team leaving. Thank you Dustin and ZH
Thank YOU.
The view from Mt. Davis is actually better than I imagined. It sure beats upper deck foul pole seats at Dodgers Stadium where I grew up. Thanks for giving us this rare view. The top of this section does suck in that it completely chops off more than half of the outfield, but where you enter is not too shabby.
You're welcome! But I don't think it's a great view. It would be so hard to see the ball from up there, even down on front.
Very cool tour! I remember running the bases a couple times on kids days. We grew up as a family going to games here hailing from the Reno-Tahoe NV area. I still buy some for all of us to reunite once a year now with my one older sibling married and in CA. It will be tough to see them leave. So many memories, and Vegas is 3 more hours away. ☹️
Damn.
3:37 Closed down bar with the old Bud Light logo and raiders logo. Sad
I appreciate how you enjoy all the small things. Your energy is contagious.
Love how chill that guy is. I know zack has a weird reputation with some players and teams and that public perception changes season by season but for as long as I have been watch Dustin has always been super cool. Love that guy.
On a side note I think everyone is secretly an oakland fan. I think everyone wants to see them have that miracle season. Some day it will happen.
Dustin is amazing, and if I have a bad reputation with anyone, that's their problem. The real ones know what's up.
Nice catch from Mount Davis, Zack!!! How you felt when you saw inside the stadium that's how I felt when I saw Fenway Park for the first time 3 weeks ago. I couldn't believe I was there and it was a dream. I also got to meet you that day which I couldn't believe you were there lol!
Very cool! It's amazing when these things finally happen.
2 incredible rail-leaning catches including the one on Mt. Davis that I can't believe you backhanded and almost fell over.
I love the Videographer's notes and SFX, made me smile! Should continue with it
I'll let her know!
Great Vid! I sat up on Mt. D once in my life for a Raiders game. It was early season (September)....it felt like watching a game on the surface of the sun.....as far away from the field and HOT AF!!!
Hey Zack. I was behind you on the 09/20 game....in 216. Disappointed that there's no video from that day. Still, fun to watch the other games at our beloved Oakland Coliseum.
Dustin is one of the coolest ever!!!
Hey did you remember seeing 3 people in the terrace row 1 on the bottom right looking from the outfield? If you do, that was me!
Edit: I just checked my Google photos and saw it! Thanks for making that game a little better after a tough loss!
Wow, Zack. If you had known you were going to climb that many stairs you could have raised money for charity.
Ha, well I am already raising money for Pitch In For Baseball & Softball this season by catching balls.
@@zackhample I didn't know. Can you post a link?
My home sweet home for more than 45 years of my life. More A's and Raiders games attended than I can count. So many great memories. Sad to see what it has become
I hear ya.
Thanks Zack for that video. Really loved the behind the scene.
W Zack he is the craziest baseball maniac I know ON EARTH it’s wild how dead the coliseum is I actually like it cause it’s easy to catch baseballs yanks again Zack for uploading the best baseball content that I know!
I am indeed a maniac.
Out of all the videos, this one may be my personal favorite. I love the behind-the-scenes stuff and if next year is the final year at the Colosseum, I will definitely be there one heck of a couch I got dizzy, just looking over the railing from the video.
Catch
Just got into baseball at the age of 63 here in england.enjoy the vids keep them coming stay safe.
Man is a ball magnet. I've been to thousands of games over the last 30+ years and have never even caught one.
i am magneto in SD
Could be because you stay in your seat.
That stadium and those fans have a charm about them like no other, it’s sad what’s happening there. Oakland forever
This video is going to break the internet!! Very cool Dustin!!! I've seen 6 games there, but haven't been since maybe 2006? I'll make a point to stop by in 2024.
Good for you too Zack to get some fun in!!
I hope so! Anything is possible with Dustin.
I sat in Mount Davis around 2001 when the A’s played the Giants. This was during Barry Bonds home run chase and the coliseum was nearly sold out. You cannot see the outfielders when you sit up there because of the height
Haha so cool that Dustin agreed to all those goofy jokes. Love it!
All Access Zack! ⚾️
Dustin being a solid dude, as always…👏🏻
Great video when u going to Miller park
Solid and then some!
By far my favorite video. I would love to explore that stadium. Amazing to see the condition of the suite in your last video. Back then it was considered fancy. We met you at the Cleveland game a month or so ago. It was the rain out game and I had my 2 boys with me. We had a nice conversation with your 2 friends you were with Be well
Thanks so much! And yeah, the suite was so weird. Everything is weird in that place. Hi to the boys.

@zackhample it Was good to see you at Comerica this weekend. I love this video because both are my favorite teams and stadiums. I spent 7 plus years living in Oakland and live in Michigan now the coliseum is a true baseball fans dream in my opinion dive bar meets baseball and culture museum. You and Dustin lived out a dream I had of playing catch from Mt Davis love the footage thanks for showcasing the coliseum and Oakland!
A's + Tigers! ❤ Glad you enjoyed this one so much. It really was a dream.
It was awesome dude! Congrats!
Fun video at this unique stadium.
Props to the Oakland grounds crew. As dumpy as that stadium is, they have always had the nicest grass for some reason. Which is saying alot considering every mlb field is immaculate.
They are a great bunch of guys and the sweetest pup on the planet. Shout out to Freddy, mvp of seed clean up lol.
That is crazy Zack! 7 hours before first pitch! I can't even imagine that! Good job at that stadium Zack! That is amazing! Trying to catch a baseball from their is wild man! Great job!
Thank you!!
@@zackhample yeah nice ❤️♣️
Good night from Chicago Zack, happy to see you got a very good friend to go inside the field. Envious!!!
Thank you and good night!
Hi Zack, one question from the SeatGeek because my account was saving automatically Zack10 but it didn’t work anymore since I bought the ticket yesterday noon for CWS game and also I am going to see the chance to go to Bulls game and still not working now. I clicked the link from 6 foul balls video but not working either. Do you know it’s because regular season already off or? Thank you and sorry for bothering you. Good night!
So happy to see Zack Hample at the A’s Game.
Wow! What a tour!
Hey Zack another great video as usual! This has nothing to do with baseball but I had to comment on this. Recently I watched the documentary about your family's book store and wow what a cool video and what a phenomenal store. Going to NYC has been on my bucket list for a while because of the 2 baseball stadiums and other things but now I have to visit the bookstore because it looks AMAZING! My daughter graduates high school this June and I thought about taking her to NYC as part of her graduation present. Keep up the great work my friend 👍
Another awesome video Zack 👍 ⚾️
Thanks for watching.
glad you didn't die making that catch!
Well I'm glad at least one person feels that way!
There's a good possibility that spiderweb is a black widow.
I have never seen this part of the stadium. Keep up the good work!
You're livin the dream Zack, what an awesome day.
I love your videos Zach, thanks for speaking highly on my A’s. 😊
Zach, I met Dustin Hughes at a Tom Morello show in NYC (there was a rain-out so he had grabbed a ticket). I was with Tom's people (band who are big baseball fans) and I told Dustin, hey man, you want to meet Tom? I guess he's a Rage fan, so we ended up hanging with everyone and had a blast in NYC - I'm sure he remembers it!
Very cool. I'll make sure he sees your comment!
Poor videographer!!!! Had to follow those fools But I’m sure it was a blast. Great video Zack
Love the vids zack and congrads on breaking a new record!
That was a great video Z...love the grass roll...hahaha....
:)
Flew down to see my Ms play at the Colliseum a few weeks ago. Wanted to go spark up an "eternal flame" on Mount Davis and was bummed I couldn't get up there
Epic. Funny that I was in the Bay Area for a little bit of the time that you were there being in Santa Clara for the Giants 49ers game and then San Francisco afterwards.
Fun coincidence.
Zack, you should go to the last home game at the Coliseum at the end of September... it would be cool to watch
Very cool video Zack!!! I love these BTS type vids.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That’s cool I would love to go on the field one day
Mad respect for the Oakland A’s #baseballlove
i like the video very much Zack Keep up the great work
Thanks!
Thankfully, after the fall, I got back up and walked away. That’s true toughness, bravery, and sturdiness, especially with how much pain and discomfort I felt.
Imagine spending a night at an As game. You can not only sit anywhere but you also get one or two free pet rodents as an optional bonus.
Love the video keep up the great work
Will do!
the double baseball was kinda cool to see, i used to use one of those to help me learn/warm up throwing a curveball
Hopefully yours didn't fall apart.
A massive spiderweb in the least used seat ever in professional sports is just too perfect 😄
Admittedly I'm a Giants fan, but i feel real bad for what the A's fans and players are going through right now. I hope to get to at least 1-2 more games at the Coliseum before the A's do move to Vegas. the place may not be great, but it'll be one of those things you won't really appreciate before it's gone
Yup, exactly. It's one of a kind, and I miss it already.
So cool and great facts if I. Rich I want to build a big stadium for me and maybe get a team there to
So sad what they did to this ballpark and now it’s a graveyard. There’s a reason ownership and fans have given up on it. It’s not suitable for baseball anymore.
awesome video, that guy who got you in there early is the real MVP
Thanks and he really is.
The ending though 😂
MLB needs a team in Oakland.... I know the A`s are done and on their way to LV. but who knows what`ll happen in the future. I never thought the Rams would return to LA, so fingers crossed...
Living the dream Zack
Dustin the by far the best dude in the MLB!
Need more people like him.
Its crazy to think about those seats being covered It makes you wonder how who was the last person to sit in those seats and they probably didnt even realize it
I hate Mt. Davis, and agree that it is "uniquely infamous in sports history." But it was way cool to see you and Dustin Hughes climb Mt. Davis, for the great views. OMG, you and Dustin playing catch on the field, and his throwing that ball to you, up the mountain.
PS, I knew about Richard Bleier and you, but not Carlos Beltran, re the many balls thrown to you!
Shout out to Dustin too, sooo cool he did that for u before the game. Its crazy up in mount davis isnt it?
Very VERY crazy.
How fun. The Oakland fans are also a lot of fun. Although they are fewer these days
Zach this might be a little off topic but I commend you for not asking for a Super Chat. Great video as usual.
Very cool video! Thanks 👍
Zack could we get a commemorative baseball video in the off-season?
After my comment last video about running around up there before it was closed .. many years ago.. this warms my heart.
:)
Just got out of my bio lab and this a great way to ease my stress thank you zach
*Zack
You should have tried to do the glove/cup trick from up there
Haha, that'd be fun but you can't see the field directly below. There are seats in the way.
As an A's fan,Zack did the impossible with the catch all the way from mt Davis.
You should do every playoff game that would be awesome
Well there are four tomorrow. How would THAT work? :p
I’d love to watch some coaches hit fungos to see if they could hit it out over Mt Davis. We had many fungo contests to hit the scoreboard and roof of the Astrodome
Do you like Mount Davis?
Zack is the man! You made that kids year I’m sure
So cool how you get the hookup from Dustin for everything! He is just one kind of a guy.
He's the best.
WAIT A MINUTE!!!! Is this where they filmed angels in the outfield???? From the original stadium????!!!
awesome video can’t wait to see catch a walkoff homerun in playoffs
If only . . .
Good to meet and talk with you that game
👍
I like the editing sound effects you were doing
Rachel gets the 🥇for that
Go Oakland A,S
