Hey Mell! As you asked the europeans for some brands to review, here in Spain there's a very popular brand called Freshly Cosmetics (and they also ship to Canada within 48h-72h). The thing I love the most is their philosophy: cruelty free, vegan, safe ingredients and 100% plastic free (that last thing is really hard to find). They have an affordable line of products for curly hair and I'd love to see you trying them! I used some of them in the past, when I was just starting my curly hair journey with very little knowledge of how to do my hair, so i didn't really had the chance to see the results in their full potential. Now I'm trying their skincare products, which are absolutely amazing 😍 Hope this seems interesting to you and maybe decide give it a try! Peace 😉💕
Hi Mell! I just wanna thank you ☺️ because of you I’ve learned so much about my hair and how to take care of it. I cut my hair really short into a TWA in April 2020 and it’s grown so much and so fast since then. I leave my hair alone and don’t manipulate it at all ❤
@@ManesByMell Speaking of affordable products, I’d love to hear your opinion on the new Shark hair dryer and their deep diffuser vs. the Dyson with its shallow diffuser!
Dear Mel, I just wanted to let you know how much you've changed (and bettered) my curly hair in just 2 days! I thought I had a curl pattern similar to Amanda's, even a little bigger, but have now realised I've been waying down my hair with too much of the wrong products! My hair is almost has a curl as tight as yours! On Monday, I bought all new products, hilariously I bought them before I had even seen this video, and had a full reset. My curls were super bouncy and tighter afterwards. On Tuesday, I washed again (I felt like I needed to), I bought new shampoo and had seen your tutorial on how to blow dry your hair for definition, volume and elongation. I focused on definition mostly, with a little volume. Today is Wednesday and my hair is almost as tight and defined as yours. I'm in shock. Thank you so much for all of your professional and easy to follow advice, producted suggestions and reviews, and beautiful personality. Your channel has literally changed my hair game forever❤ P.S. I live in Australia and would love to be able to buy your Verb line!
I just bought the Marc Anthony repair bond a couple weeks ago and I have to agree with you! Loved the shampoo, did not care for the conditioner and the leave in conditioner was very heavy on my hair! Otherwise, my hair has been looking so shiny and healthy!
I guess because I am a child of the '80s' and used hairspray a lot, I don't have the aversion to hairspray for my curly hair. I don't use as much as I did back then but I still love using hairspray.
Thank you for answering the gray hair question! Most of mine is white now, except for the back. I love it but it is definitely finer and softer. It is a challenge to get the volume that I used to have! You have been so helpful! Keep bringing it every week. I’m here for it!
I love the Cake Whipped Mousse layered over a hard gel. It gives me even stronger hold than the gel alone and I get more volume. It dries crunchy but it’s easy to scrunch it out and my curls last longer. I have fine low density high porosity mostly 3c curls with some 3b
Hi Mel! Really love your videos. I learning so much :) I'm a 50 something old gal and have difficulties with my white hair (those are really pesky). It would be nice if you could give your audience some tips and tricks for those of us who have white and grey hair. Thanks again for all your hard work!
Seconded! My hair is mostly white & I'm just now finding out how to work with my curly hair. I know that it loves coconut oil as a pre-poo. Leave-ins, curl activators, styling products are hit & miss for me. Thanks, Mell 💕
I’m a 53 yo auburn and my temples have gone buttercream! It’s fascinating because the white temple hair also has almost no curl unlike the rest of my head. Can’t say aging is fun and alto I’ll miss both curls and red, it’s a bit intriguing to watch nature’s process. 💃
PSA for that Cake shampoo. I loved the vanilla sweet cake smell when I first started using it but by the end if the bottle, the scent started to make me feel sick. I think curly kids would probably enjoy it but I couldn’t even finish it. And I am not a fragrance sensitive person, I love a nice scent to my products but this was just too much 🤢 Edit: but I loved the Cake curl cream! It worked well and the scent was much better 💕
this is so interesting bc my experience with the cake whipped mousse has been surprisingly really great - it's the one of the only hold products that actually gives me hold and lasts til my next wash (only 2-3 days later bc i have an oily scalp). so the fact that it doesn't have many ingredients that provide hold was surprising! but i despise the curl cream, i have fine, low porosity hair so it kinda just makes my hair feel greasy.
Mell! I do struggle with root lift between hair cuts. Between flat roots and not wanting my hair in my face, it is usually pinned back or in a clip. Fine wavy hair girlie here. I can't wait for my hair cut next month. My wonderful hair lady had twins before my last apt, so we had someone fill in. And oh I realized how much my current hair lady brings to the table. Thank you for turning us onto so much knowledge and wisdom!!
You’re hilarious but I also appreciate that you’re one of the only influencers that actually describes the smell of products! So important but so many skip this or say things like “smells great!”….
Thank you for reviewing Marc Anthony. No one does deep dives on their products, so it is difficult to de ide if it is worth buying. It always looks intriguing, but it hurts to spend money and not know if it is worth it
I would love to see you try flora&curl or boucléme.. they're both easy to get a hold of in the UK and can be found on places that ship internationally (feel unique/sephora UK, cult beauty, beautybay or look fantastic)
A question for Mell (or any other hair professionals or people with this same issue), since you mentioned taking care of your scalp and not just washing for your hair: What does your routine look like if you are also treating for scalp psoriasis? For context, my hair only needs washed once a week, but my scalp probably needs more... so in one wash day, I use Nizoral for my scalp (ketaconazole is the only thing that keeps the itch and dryness at bay), then a shampoo that is either hydrating or clarifying for my hair, and of course conditioner. I wonder if I am doing too many things at once though; am I negating the effects of one of the products by using them all together? Should I actually be washing my hair/scalp twice a week? Your past videos talking about the different types of products for dry scalp/psoriasis were super helpful and I wouldn't mind more content about those things! Thanks Mell!
Hi, I know this is super late, but don't worry! You are absolutely not negating the effects of the products by using them all together, especially the two shampoos. That's a great way to use shampoo especially for scalp issues. Also, I'd reccomend washing your hair once a week to not dry it out with that stronger shampoo, and then just use topical scalp treatments (pattern beauty and royal oils by head and shoulders have great ones) in between wash days
Happy Thursday, Mel!! Question for ya': Do you ever use TWO different shampoos in your double-cleanse? Just curious, because that's what I do and it works well so far. 🙃
I do that too! When I have a lot of buildup, I'll go in with a clarifying shampoo first, then follow up with a shampoo that focuses more on treatment, like the Redken Acidic line's shampoo!
I do this, if I have a lot of buildup. I use Kinky Curly Come Clean first to clarify and chelate. Then follow with my shampoo of choice. My hair is 2b/c to 3a fine hair and medium to low density. So I need to remove buildup that weighs down my hair very very effectively.
Hi Mell! I love your videos. Would you please consider a video on wearing curls down, but away from the face? I would like tops on using hair pins, scarves, and barrettes. Thanks!
I love watching your drugstore comparison videos!! My hair has looked so much better since watching your channel ❤️so grateful to have found you seesters
Yay! Really love seeing you do affordable options. 😍 Love that you’re in Canada, too, as most people I see review products review things we can’t get here.
I really enjoy Cake Beauty and have been using it for years. I actually use the Marc Anthony Frizz Ease oil and together with the Cake products it’s great 💕 I have hair to my ankles so it’s a big task!
My curls actually love the Marc Anthony conditioner (the whole line actually) but I have lower porosity hair. And they came out with a defrizzing smoothing cream for the same line too! It might be new to Canada though because I just found it
First off let me say this channel has absolutely changed my life so thank you for all you do for us curlies figuring it out ❤️ but I have a video request! Could you do a wash day week where you where a bonnet and a wash day week where you don't? I swear the bonnet makes all the difference, but I'm wondering how long it would hold up without 🤔
Hi Mell! I really enjoyed both the Cake cream and mousse. With the mousse especially a little goes a long way. If you try it again try using 1/4 what you used this time and see.if it feels lighter. Thanks for trying and recording new products!
Thanks a lot for all of the videos!! I would love to see a full routine for people suffering with rosacea who cannot use fragrance, essential oil, alcohol... And a special request, since i am watching you from france ( bonjour !!) products that are available online/europe. Thank you so much!!
Mell, I have waves on the top and curls on the bottom of my shoulder-length hair....I've learned so much about how to take care of my hair by watching you! please...please. Please do more testing of cruelty free hair products...
I liked your answer about white hair as the top of my head the hair is all white and my hair is still fine, thirsty and fragile. Good to know that is normal for white hair as mostly just everyday mechanical wear, very mild heat with diffuser and the environment.
If you have any New To Their Curly Hair curlfriends, i would love to see a video like this on hair that's still going through the "education" phase. Those struggling with years of heat or chemical damage or both, those learning their routine and curl pattern, what tpye of hair they have. The list goes on.... My hair has improved tremendously over the past 4ish months thanks to channels like yours and others. Trial and error of course is best, but can be costly to a new curly person. One major thing i always remember is we all have different environments, temperature, changes of climate through the seasons, dry heat vs humid heat, hard water vs soft water. I know what works on any given person may not work for me.
Love the drug store rep, regardless of region. Am going through a hair change, keeping the color natural, so what are some ideas for super-fine 3A to 3B curls?
Hi Mel 👋🏻 Thank you for always providing us with super informative videos!! 🙏🏻💗 I’m a European curly & would love for you to try out the Revolution curly haircare line- they have separate products for type 1-2 curls & another for type 3-4 curls. It’s super affordable here in England and I think that the entire line is CGM friendly. Would love to hear your thoughts on it . Thanks again 😊
Love your review.....I am more if a gel person but did try the gel, the hair spray and the oil..... This gel seemed to make my hair more coarse...My Mom had big curls and Daddy had a tight curly afro....which gel usually work for but no dice....hair sorry to say I did not like due to the fact I was allergic to it.....but first time using an oil and really love the cake oil....not heavy or drying it us just right when I use with the came hair cream.....I am having a hard time finding the leave in at a reasonable price but I do recommend the whole Marc Anthony grow long collection and the whole strictly curls collection. I also love Shea moisture curl and shine collection..... I do not do hair reviews just have the hair that no matter what I do my curls fall quickly.....My best hold us with Cake but my hair does not grow quickly at all and my hair line was leaving and the grow long worked wonderful....since the cake has gotten so expensive for 4 ounces if the 3 in 1 I am using the Marc Anthony grow long leave in.....thank you for your insight switching out cake to March Anthony where you have suggested.....
In Europe we have john frieda (I live the foam and curl cream), garnier (I love the pot with banana) cantu, aunt jackie, yari (I have a lot of this), curly secret, noughty, shea moisture, as I am, syoss, wella, activlong, novex, got2B, wakati
I've been using the Cake leave-in with my daughters' hair (and mine) for the last two years. It's my go-to for detangling their hair; especially when a lot of leave-ins don't really help detangle.
I tried Cake’s styling curling cream and the second day styler and I really like them! Because I liked them so much, I got the shampoo and conditioner, but I didn’t like them at all. The leave in conditioner was out of stock, so I couldn’t get it, so I got the shea moisture. I have thin high porosity hair, so I know it can be too heavy for me, but I use less product. Oh! I also use the Cake dry shampoo before my workout and it works really well.
Hi Mell!!! I 💜 texture Thursday & your reviews! My question is: do clarifying shampoos strip color? I love the curl results I get from clarifying but I also want to preserve my color. Thank you! Also, you look gorgeous in that lipstick & thank you for making us laugh! Love ya!
I actually got to try out the Marc Anthony products just before they were released. I tested them side by side with Olaplex and I actually liked the Marc Anthony mask better than the Olaplex one. I preferred the shampoo and conditioner from Olaplex but they were close enough that I would use either one and the Marc Anthony product is wayyy cheaper.
I love Marc Anthony strictly curls shampoo, conditioner and 3 in 1 styling cream. They’ve been my go to since I grew my short hair out after a million years of straightening my curls prior to that.
Thank you for answering the question about grey and white hair. I love your videos but don't have your hair. Mine is about 25% grey and I am loving the salt and pepper look. It's fine hair and thinning so I wish we had an older version of you to explain things on here to make it easier. 🤪
I'm so excited about watching this! (Have to finish these last few emails 🥴) but I NEED recommendations for a dry shampoo for brunettes that won't turn my hair gray! Mell what do you use now that you're back to the dark side 😉
I have used Cake before myself and I agree it leaves the hair really soft, almost too soft at times. I feel like it could work for drier hair that needs more conditioning. I had tried it until the products were empty but it never worked for me.
Hi Mell and Amanda. Thanks for the video. The Cake foam I bought gave me an instant headache and did not smell like the cream or the mousse. I didn’t mind the cream but I have others I prefer. It’s good for the price point.
Hi Mel! I love it when you do drug store product reviews bc that's what I usually use. I use hairspray for extra hold. I live in Maine & love the 4 seasons! Question: Do shampoo really make a difference, not including clarifying shampoos?
Cake just doesn't have enough moisture in them for my hair and the marc Jacobs repairplex actually made my hair feel more damaged (it went gummy when i didnt have gummy hair before using it) and felt so dry and my ends were breaking off after I had dried it and felt like the product hadn't washed off properly I even went and re rinsed and it made no difference...I was so disappointed...I do have some bleach damage but it's not supposed to make it worse 😅
Hi Mel, you mention "white" hair in this video, but I have gone naturally gray about 2 years ago. I am now salt and pepper, and really need to know how to care for curly SALT AND PEPPER hair. If this is not your forte' please guide me to an expert in this field. I appreciate ALL your videos. Your personality is exactly like my daughter and I will be a fan of yours for ever! Don't ever change! Nothin' but love for ya. ❣
Thank you for you videos. They are always fun, entertaining and very informative. Have you ever tried Color Wow products? Would you do a review on those?
The Cake curl cream works great on my permed hair and provides a little crunch. I love the smell of their line for sure. Do you recommend any other curl creams for permed hair? Thanks! Hope you are feeling better.
I've been working on helping my hair come back to full health because it started breaking and becoming more fine from lack of love I think. It's gotten so much better but one thing I notice is that the middle back of my hair is always shorter than the sides. Do you have any idea why that might be? Up until very recently, I was separating my hair into two halves to apply product so maybe that was part of it? Any tips on promoting even growth is really appreciated! Love your videos ❤
Ohhhh~ European here. Lot's of brands in my country (NL) come from the US or are international brands. I've been using Petal Fresh (Californian brand) shampoo's and conditioners. The formula's are all quite similar except for the ingredients mentioned in front of the packaging. (They're available in drugstores in the Netherlands.) (My hair seems to like the grape seed and olive oil the most -recommend for dry and damaged hair- but I haven't really got damaged hair (only the usual stuff like wear and tear.) I've also been using Creme of Nature Argan Gel Snot (American but available in drugstores here in NL). Got it recommend by a hairstylist. I've been trying Ecoslay too, they're an American brand as well, available online, and they really focus on sustainability. Maybe a bit much because they want you to store their products in the fridge... I saw them on a website with a recommended product that was an antibacterial liquid. Their products smell good though and their rice pudding is so moisturising. I came across them looking for moisturising lightweight products. Shea moisture is also populair here. Which ehm, you guys know and it's also American. Happy soaps is a brand that sells shampoo and conditioner bars, they're Dutch and they're plastic free. Haven't used them because I haven't been happy with the last shampoo bar I tried (different brand though). I've also been curious about this brand called Monday, they sell in the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands. A brand that's actually from New Zealand? They sell in Canada too. That aside, thank you for the assurance that products with non fatty alcohols are fine on healthy moisturised hair. I've been wondering whether I should try things to speed up the drying process.
Thanks for the comparison review! I use Cake Beauty The Curl Whip Whipped Curl Mousse and my hair loves it. BUT I do not use a curl cream with it. My hair loves the combination of Giovanni Direct Leave-In™ Weightless Moisture Conditioner, with Cake Beauty The Curl Whip Whipped Curl Mousse, and then some Giovanni L.A. Styling Gel(in the length only) on top. Go figure! Every curly head of hair has its own personality! LOL!
Please pick this question to answer in your next video! Why do some styling products contain disodium or tetrasodium EDTA, when you and other sources have mentioned these to be chelating agents? I have noticed these in a variety of gels, ECO Argan Oil and Dippity-Do Gelée being a few examples. I'm so confused 😟. Thanks!
Have you tried aussie bond protecting serum? So many companies are coming out with bond building stuff and Im not sure what exactly is helping the bonds!
Oh my gosh!!! You answered my question. I was so excited and thank you for the clarification on using hair oils for gray hair and when to change up my hair products. I always love watching your videos, you are always so helpful. (And hilarious 😂)
Thank you for your videos each week! With regard to overseas brands, I've recently been trying Skala Expert, a Brazilian product, and would love to hear your thoughts about it. On a different note, have you ever done any videos about henna??
Okay I know you love the Okaplex 4c shampoo for clarifying, which I absolutely love as well! But what are some shampoos you reccomend to use in between clarifying washes?
I love that you made this video, I tried the scrunching, and co washing, but I like the 1 and done, then I found out I have a fragrance allergy so I can't use any of the curly girl method products that sucked
Heyy Mell! We have this line here in Europe (Belgium) called Yari Green Curls. They brought out curly haircare like Sheamoisture & Cantu in our drugstores about 2 years ago. This brand 'Yari Green Curls' was one of them. I think it's supposed to be a natural curly hair type of brand. It would be great to hear your thoughts on it since I've been loving your videos for years now :)
I have Yari green products. I like most of them. I like the gel the best and the curlmaker is nice too. I'm not so enthousiastic about the shampoo, but it's oké. I prefer the shampoo from Dille And Kamille, the soap bar for curly hair.
Great video thanks Mell. Do you notice a difference with your shower head? I can’t remember if you’ve done a video on that but if not could you include a review in one of your vids? ❤
😂😂😂dying at the end - you always get me there seester. This was a great video!! I’ve never used either of these products but loved seeing the side by side comphairison! 💚 curious if you’ve tried Aussie hairline drug store products, their newer lines?
I know you said Europe but if you’re looking at Australia - Davroe is my favourite. The most popular Australian brand is probably Clever Curl or Everescents (same company, different lines).
I LOVE how informative you are in your videos, and very entertaining!!! I was wondering if you can talk about single strand knots or fairy knots. I hate them and I get them all the time with my curly hair! I've heard you need to keep your hair straight so as not to get them, but that's not something I always want to do. Can you HELP!!!
Hi mell, can you do a hair care routine for curly girls who don't like voluminous puffy hair? I have type 3 hair and I want my hair to be weight down and more like wavy but all the curly hair vedios are for enhancing curls so I don't know what to do even though I love my curls.

The cake curl cream worked great for me.. but then again I have thick dry hair
I like the mousse too but gel holds my hair better
I have wavy hair. The moussee makes my hair very crunchy (and gives great hold). It really helps my curls form.
I’m not sure she wanted the wash to turn out. That was so much mousse. She knew that. Look how much she adds to Amanda long hair
The Cake mousse is my holy grail mousse. I have wavy/curly hair and I find the hold to be quite good.

I actually use the Marc Anthony Frizz Ease oil and together with the Cake products it’s great 💕
I have hair to my ankles so it’s a big task!
My curls actually love the Marc Anthony conditioner (the whole line actually) but I have lower porosity hair. And they came out with a defrizzing smoothing cream for the same line too! It might be new to Canada though because I just found it
Great video! I was surprised with your results with the curl whip from cake, I tend to get a pretty good hold with it.
First off let me say this channel has absolutely changed my life so thank you for all you do for us curlies figuring it out ❤️ but I have a video request! Could you do a wash day week where you where a bonnet and a wash day week where you don't? I swear the bonnet makes all the difference, but I'm wondering how long it would hold up without 🤔
As a fine 2c wavy the cake mousse actually works pretty well for me if I apply it on *damp* hair.
I use the Cake mousse and it gives me great hold! The Cake conditioner left my hair dry. Thanks for the video, Mel
It's so nice to watch a video about products I know I can get in Canada!
I love the cake mousse its the very best. I also buy the shampoos and condoners
Could you review the Maui moisture products? They have a lot of options, it’s a touch overwhelming
Mell, I have waves on the top and curls on the bottom of my shoulder-length hair....I've learned so much about how to take care of my hair by watching you! please...please. Please do more testing of cruelty free hair products...
Hi Mell! Have you tried a diffuser cap? How does it compare to a regular diffuser? Thanks!
Thank you so much for doing this review! I hope you do soapbox
Love the drug store rep, regardless of region. Am going through a hair change, keeping the color natural, so what are some ideas for super-fine 3A to 3B curls?
Hi Mell I have a question- what ingredients do I look for in a good bond repair product? Love you’re videos watch them every week when they release
Hi Mell have been stringing my hair for a while so I decided to go curly to take a break from stringing my hair so i am so excited to go curly ❤
How do I find a curl specialist to cut my hair in San Antonio Texas? I know it's special training
Love ya!
If you use them too regularly they probably will fade the colour quickly unless you use a colour safe one
I love this brand but hated this variation The repair one didn’t work good on my hair
Thank you for answering the question about grey and white hair. I love your videos but don't have your hair. Mine is about 25% grey and I am loving the salt and pepper look. It's fine hair and thinning so I wish we had an older version of you to explain things on here to make it easier. 🤪
Yaaay looking forward to the video. Missed a texture Tuesday video. Also looking for some consolation as I did a very big chop today regrettably
oh no not regrettably!! Its ok i am hair to remind you that hair grows back!
Thanks for the hairspray frizz tip. I'm going to try it!
Would love to see you review Giovanni's new curl line. I believe they're naturally derived and cruelty free at an affordable price
I'm so excited about watching this! (Have to finish these last few emails 🥴) but I NEED recommendations for a dry shampoo for brunettes that won't turn my hair gray! Mell what do you use now that you're back to the dark side 😉
Coming soon!!!! specifically on IG :)
The amika dry shampoo is pretty amazing!
I would love to see you review the Giovanni curl line and some of the foams and other shampoo and conditioners they have.
Hi Mell! Thank you for this review! I have been curious about both of these lines but wasn’t sure whether I should try them.
🎉❤ So knowledge and helpful. You are in a class of your own. Master Mel
(They're available in drugstores in the Netherlands.)
(My hair seems to like the grape seed and olive oil the most -recommend for dry and damaged hair- but I haven't really got damaged hair (only the usual stuff like wear and tear.)
I've also been using Creme of Nature Argan Gel Snot (American but available in drugstores here in NL).
I just remembered, Schwartzkopf, you can buy them almost everywhere in Europe as they're a German brand and they've got a curl and wave haircare line.
How about trying Oway or My Veg lines? Both from Italy and can be purchase on holistic hair tribe site.
Loved this review. I started with Cake products in my curl journey. I can’t use them in the winter bc it’s too dry and I am fine and low porosity.
Mel! I need help. Wet frizz. 😣 any videos about wet frizz?
Oh my gosh!!! You answered my question. I was so excited and thank you for the clarification on using hair oils for gray hair and when to change up my hair products. I always love watching your videos, you are always so helpful. (And hilarious 😂)
Would love to see drugstore reviews of garnier hair food fructis or maui lines!
Loved this review! Cake beauty also had a beach texture balm that gives more hold than the curl cream! It’s awesome!
I would love to see Brazillian curly hair products if you can:) I love your info! Thanks:)
Mel what’s the lipstick you are wearing in the day 3? It looks great.
Snow white vibes with the red lipstick! Love it and you look gorgeous....
Would they work for wavy hair? I have been curious about this brands for a while.
Umberto Gianinni, Kinky Curly, zotos all about curls, curls, sgx nyc, pattern beauty cleansing shampoo, dove finishing gel, Marc Anthony strictly curls, tresemme flawless curls mousse, L’Oréal mega moisture nurturing creme
Looks like you're gonna be a busy girl Mell.
@@valeriavandijl7607 Thanks for the tips Valeria! I didn't know Dille and Kamille had curly hair products, I'll definitely check out the soap bar :)
Awesome! I love Marc Anthony‘s Curl Cream (yellow tube). It’s interesting to see how the other products in the brand stack up.
What do you think of dr bronners as a clarifier ??
Hi mell, can you do a hair care routine for curly girls who don't like voluminous puffy hair? I have type 3 hair and I want my hair to be weight down and more like wavy but all the curly hair vedios are for enhancing curls so I don't know what to do even though I love my curls.
Ahhh these my favourite videos! Been wanting to know your thought on Cake for sooo long!
