In Germany a hairdresser does 'consultations' by getting photos from viewers + short description of their hair care routine + their concerns/wishes. He then explains based on these pictures what's the problem and how to solve it (product recommendations included). I would die to see that for curlies!

For those that can't keep a silk bonnet on their head while sleeping I found something that works well. A one sided silk pillow case. 'LilySilk Silk Pillowcase for Hair and Skin with Cotton Underside'. It seems cheap at first but after sleeping on it gets very soft and washes well.

I totally agree that hemi-squalene on dry hair doesn’t do anything for me but on a whim I added a few drops from the ordinary hemi-squalene to a conditioner that I wasn’t too crazy about and it transformed that product! My hair felt so silky after rinsing it off which was interesting. But no luck using it on dry hair though.

Which makes it fantastic to me... and has a great curly line... and made in canada.... have you heard of it or ever used it? Just always curious because I never see anyone ever reviewing it. Oh my gosh your hair is beautiful!! I have thick course curly hair. Exactly like Amanda’s hair texture! I’m only 14 and I am still trying to figure out my hair, but I don’t know how to style it the right way or what my routine should be. I usually use Shea Moisture products but I think I got a protein overload. It’s had a lot of excess frizz around the top of my head. My hair has never been really defined. It’s either proofy and frizzy or really dry and wavy (not defined at all) I really want my hair to be at the pint yours is. I want the curls to be defined and moisturized. My current routine on wash night is all with Shea moisture. I shampoo it from roots to ends, condition it from roots to ends ( I recently found out that I don’t need to condition my roots), I use a leave in conditioner in the shower leave it for 5 minutes and rinse it out. When I get out of the shower I brush it with a wet brush, put in Jamaican caster oil, then a hair smoothie, and I put my hair in a bonnet overnight. In the morning it still doesn’t have defined curls in the morning. It’s just frizzy and loose. I also don’t know what to do in the morning or night when it’s not wash night. I would love my curls to look like yours!! Any products you recommend? Any tips on my hair? If you see this I would love some help!!

    Can someone help me?
Due to iron and biotin deficiency I now have extremely fine and thin hair. After washing and styling it looks great and voluminous for like two three hours than starts to implode in on itself until I’m left with ugly, stringy, seetrough and thin curls that look bad however I style them.)I have a dry-normal scalp with a oily spot on that normal creates a halo section(don’t know how to describe that otherwise) and my scalp bleeds easily from scratching. Sometimes I get flakes in my hair when it is especially dry outside
Short I tried everything I could think of but my hair still look horrendous after as few hours in my natural state even if don’t put products on.
I’m somewhere between wavy and curly. It breaks extremely fast and is thin on the sides of scalp and very sparse while being thicker(still thin but in relations to the side thicker) hair on the top of my scalp)
    So I tried:
    - more or less washing
    - volumzing products( looks better for 2 hours more but that’s it)
    - supplements
    - air drying, diffusing differently
    - styling techniques( e.g brush styling with different brushes and without)
    - I tried wet styling damp styling etc.
    - I’m trying scalp care
    - I cut my hair and it did nothing
    - no products but it still looks horrible
    - protein treatments(no visible improvement)
    - more moisture( first I had some moisture overload now I don’t t have enough)
    - Different gels and also mousse, as well as creams and sprays as leave ins.(no difference)
    - only gel or only leave in(no difference)
    - I went to see a doctor(for hair loss) that’s why I’m taking supplements
    - notable I stopped eating meat to a large extent because I can’t stand the taste anymore and I have iron deficiency from it
    - density serums but they make my scalp dirty and itchy(tried the duo from curl smith)
    - I have scalp pain from high ponytails that can last for days
    - sleep on silk pillowcase and in bonnet or lose hair braid or twist
I’m desperate because everything I try doesn’t help and straightening it to look presentable is not an answer because I actually like my curls or I used to anyway😢

Hi Mell! I have 3c curls with high density and thin texture. I want to grow my hair long, but it always end up very very VERY tangled which makes it impossible to last 5 days without spending about 30 min brushing in the shower and having to be extremely careful with the knots so that I don't rip off too much hair.
Which advice would you give me so that I can easily manage and detangle my hair? Washing it more often seems like an option but I don't really like it specially for the product/time waste... maybe you have some brush recommendations, special products, haircut options or just any tip that might help? Hi Mell & Amanda! I'm sensitive to fragrances and essential oils. Is there a good clarifying shampoo for hard water you can recommend?
Also, my curls loved the Curl Foaming Gel that y'all created with Verb! 😍 Unfortunately, I think I'm sensitive to the grapefruit oil. Would love a version without any fragrance or essential oils if that’s ever a possibility! Much love and thank you for all the hard work y’all put in to educating and entertaining us 💖 Happy new year!

I can’t use fragranced products either (synthetic or EO) and while I haven’t found a fragrance free shampoo that removes hard water build up Malibu C have a product that comes in a sachet (sorry I can’t remember the name) which removes hard water buildup and is also fragrance free. I don’t know if shower filters work but if they do it might be cheaper in the long run.

Your hair is so beautiful! I tried JVN last year and I did not care for it. It left my hair feeling very dry and "yuck". It was costly and I felt like it was a waste of my money. I had the shampoo, conditioner, curl cream and the oil. It was a hard no for me.

I'm a thin fine wavy girl with natural salt and pepper hair. My problem is that when I wear a bonnet, I overheat. I mostly just wear a silk scrunchie at night. Because my hair is fine and wavy I usually have to refresh with water most of the time. Do you have any suggestions that may help my waves hold better.

I personally think it's best to get a better fitting one. You can try pinning but be careful cause that can cause breakage.

My hair is too fine to keep a bonnet on. I use the 'LilySilk Silk Pillowcase for Hair and Skin with Cotton Underside'. Doesn't slide of the bed and is really soft after the first wash. It feels kind of cheap at first but gets better with use.

The Evolve bonnet she reviewed is the only one that stays on my hair due to the width of the band, its also a fitted band vs an elasticated one.

I pineapple my hair with a silk scrunchy before I put in bonnet. That's the only way bonnets stay on me. And it keeps my curls better also. If my hair is down in the bonnet it's so heavy the bonnet either slides down my eyes or comes off while I sleep.

Hi Mel! Another great video with thorough reviews from my favorite hair dresser!❤️ Happy New Year!
Just a couple questions, have you ever reviewed hair products from Stream2Sea? Their formulas are specifically designed to be water biodegradable and while they seem popular on the website I've never seen anyone else review them. Would love to hear your thoughts about them.
2nd question, are there any fragrance free hair masks you'd recommend? Really enjoyed your fragrance free video with Amanda and am trying to switch all my products to no added fragrance for mine and my dad's allergies. Having trouble with replacing my hair masks.
Sorry for the long post. Again really love your videos and hope you and yours are doing well this new year.

question: why do you love sulfates and silicones? ever since I started my natural curly hair journey, 10 years ago, everyone I watch has said to stay away from them. its been engraved in my brain that they are bad for your hair (harsh, stripping, pastic coating, etc.) and I would like to try using them again however, im nervous to try them. i also dont know what products to try that can benefit my hair. any product recommendations for someone who has stayed away from sulfates and silcones that contain them

    • @titasa_91
      @titasa_91 2 года назад +1

I can’t speak on Mel’s behalf but I also started without using sulfates/silicones and then saw that Mel used them. Based on what she’s said in the past they basically don’t ruin her hair and even help it so why not keep using it. As long as you are using sulfates to take out the silicones then it should be fine. Also I’m sure Mel would say that do whatever works for you!
As for me, I personally do use sulfates every once in a while to really make sure my hair is clean (I exercise a lot and go to the beach so really need that). It’s basically a soap so it’ll only dry your curls a bit which with the right moisturizer shouldn’t even be an issue. I have noticed a lot of Mel‘s products with silicones are good for colored hair, and I don’t color my hair so I stay away from silicones as it has worked for me!
