      @@janetmcgue2313 it depends on the hair products you’re using. If you use stringer hold gels then your hair will hold a curl longer with very little refresh. I personally like softer gels, I don’t mind refreshing every single day.

You are the first stylist I have ever found that understands all the concepts that were covered in the class. Where have your videos been all my life? Seriously, I needed this video like... 55 years ago. Grew up having my hair treated as a problem for my parents to solve as quickly and cheaply as possible. That continued on into adulthood, since I had no other mental model for it, and having it shaved off in military basic training gave me an option to fall back on occasionally over the next few decades. Didn't start to see my hair differently until I was in my late 40s, and it wasn't until I was in my 50s and growing it long while in covid lockdown that I really started making an effort to take care of it properly. So much I have to learn, though. Started watching your channel a month or two ago and have been picking up all kinds of info, and this video is packed with even more that I didn't know. Thank you!

    I really learned about the way hair changes as I've gotten more silver! My silvers need moisture, but moisture that makes my silver happy overloads my non-silvers. My solution, use a deep conditioner for up to 10 minutes whenever I wash but mix in aittle of Botanika The Mender protein treatment, and I don't use a leave in conditioner. Gives both my silvers and non-silvers what they need.

    Your hair is stunning! To be honest, I think all of these steps apply to all hair types.
    I have wavy hair that has been dreadlocked for over ten years. I noticed that as my hair went grey, the texture completely changed so I started looking into WHY I was suddenly cursed with frizzy locs. I now sleep with a satin bonnet, I have a better wash routine, I put product in my hair and my locs look SO much better as a result!

  • @StormyDay
    @StormyDay 3 года назад +3

    This is like a “greatest hits video!” The advice on the brushing is so spot on, probably one of the most important things
    Did you ever cover neck hair and why is such an issue? I don’t recall. All I know is, my canopy is easier to tame than my neck hair, sometimes I have to use products made for coily hair to tame it. If I do the pineapple, if I use a bonnet makes no difference.
    P.S. As you get older, hair can be high porosity for no reason other than age.

    This video was so good! Lots of good reminders on the days where I feel frustrated. Definitely a few pointers that I needed to get back to working on. However, I will say that I used to live for styling right-side-up, mostly b/c my hair is THICK and upside-down hurts my back/neck. Also, after watching a lot of your videos on proper Denman styling, I had a great routine! Then, I chopped off like, 7 inches! And upside-down was a option again! What I’ve learned in order to utilize upside down styling are a few things: when you detangle, don’t brush ALL of your hair forward, brush some to the sides, too. Use the Denman to distribute styling cream/product and flip some tension where you need to. And then, MOVE. Scrunch up side down. Turn your head sideways, spray more water, SHAKE, scrunch. Repeat. Right-side up/side to side, and then upside down one more time for good measure. This avoids a lot of that weird wonky back rats nest. I can see how this would still not be ideal for thinner hair. Also, I’ve noticed as my hair starts to grow back, it’s more difficult to avoid some weird part stuff toward the back. It will still look good, but NOT quite how I’d like. YMMV.

    My worst hair days are usually my work days since it's so easy to get sweaty/warm (especially with wearing face masks) & I'm in a dim lit room all day (massage therapist), so I tend to not be as worried what I look like & have my hair up in whatever ways I can keep all the hairs from being on my face or neck. I will say that I tend to do mostly air drying lately with having less time to devote to blow drying or I don't want to be noisy if the rest of the household is still sleeping. But considering that fact, hair still is doing better on those no blow days than they ever did before I found your channel.

    Not only theory. Not only advise. Solution to the point. I have seen a lot (if not all) of your videos, trying your styling technique, and still be the queen of frizz (thin, fine, 2c-3a,low density). Almost all of the products not available in Greece so I cannot do what you do. I have not the same hair. You made me to use cones and not feel guilty. (although most of them make my hair too heavy, less curly) and learned me how to I can decide what cone to use and when. But still Queen of frizz. And now this. I finally see details that I am doing wrong. Try again and boom! Same products, more definition, less frizz. What can I say? Only thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

    Hi Mell! I think that you should’ve added to the hair dryer section is that maybe the diffuser attachment is allowing too much air coming through and disturbs the curls. I figured this out after getting a different diffuser attachment. Even though I had my hair dryer in the lowest air setting and lowest “no” heat setting, my bad hair days were the most prevalent through out my curl journey. I felt like I’ve only had good hair days counted in both my hands. I got an attachment where I could control how much air flow I let it go through, and LET ME TELL YOU…That made a world of a difference. I thought my hair was damaged and thought I had to get a buzz cut to start over, but I was wrong.

    Question: Is white (grey, platinum, silver, glitter, whatever euphemism you want) more likely to higher porosity? Any other likely characteristics? Asking for a friend. 😜

    • @raraavis7782
      @raraavis7782 3 года назад +2

      Many people report them to be more wiry, although personally, I can't confirm that. I have quite a lot of white at age 41 and don't notice a difference in texture or wave pattern. I have thick 'horsehair' to begin with, though. Maybe it's different for people with fine hair.

    • @EmmaLemmon
      @EmmaLemmon 3 года назад +2

      My white hairs seem slightly more porous than the others. They are concentrated more at the front/temples so I don't know if that makes a difference. Using more product and oil in that area seems to help a lot to prevent them fluffing out too much. My hair is fine and much better condition since I stopped dying it, i have ringlets again 😁

    • @JuliaJohnGirl
      @JuliaJohnGirl 3 года назад +1

      @@raraavis7782 I think mine used to be like that (I would feel it when individual hairs fell out and hit my shoulder) but either I don’t notice it anymore or it’s less wiry. I keep wondering if I should automatically assume that it is dryer, more fragile, or more porous now that it is mostly naturally white, or if I should keep trying to “listen” to it. I swear that my ears still work pretty good, but my ability to discern the needs of my hair has me feeling like my “hearing” abilities are kaput.

      White hair: high porosity
      Grey hair: low porosity
      There’s a whole science to this I am DYING to break down in a video!! Just beware you might notice your hair is resistant when it’s grey but absorbent fine and fragile when it gets white!

    Wow! Loved this video! Watched while I was diffusing 😉. I have waist length waves and get my best results with Spisha's method of diffusing with my air gently bunched up while drying. I lay on my back with my hair draped off the edge of the bed bunched on my bench which sits at the foot of my bed. Diffuser roots first and wow! I have Marida hair!

    I am confused on one part (it could be the recent epipen though). I’m not fully understanding the difference between not separating the scalp & camouflage. Could you explain what you mean by not separate? I have fine low density hair & when I started blow drying your way with changing head positions, it gave me much more volume & definition.
    BTW, your rhyming skill gives quite a thrill, not just today but in every way.

And the shine ✨ I also have been using diy rosemary water as a leave in spray from my scalp to tips before I use the flax. Thank-you so much for all the tips. My whole life practically I straightened my hair everyday going against me curls. Then at age 47 my hair suddenly went super dry so even when I cut it short which used to give nice curls it is now just frizz! I'm scared to even use any heat on my hair but since you mentioned it's better to diffuse and not leave hair wet for a long time, I'll try to diffuse. Also I'm guessing being 47 and probably but not sure, going through menopause, is causing me to get hot everyday which means sweat which equals frizz! I will try all these tips though, thank you so much!
