I’ve been trying the three product routine and I was so surprised how well that worked. I need to use a really nourishing shampoo but otherwise with a solid conditioner and a moisturizing gel my hair doesn’t need a ton of other products! Hope you’re able to find a way to simplify your routine too!

You don't really need many products, if they're good quality and suitable for your hair. I do shampoo, conditioner, foam and gel, but gel only can work, too.

I felt like you at the beginning! I thought my hair was "straight", and that i had misbehaving pieces at my temples (my devil horns LOL). My hair wasn't straight, but i wouldn't even have called it wavy back then. I knew that humidity made some pieces really curly, but the length, hair dyes, brushes and cheap shampoos made my hair bleah.

Courtney, you were the only one I could find on RUclips who featured "wavy" hair and how to care and style wavy hair it when I first began my journey. So thankful to have found you. Among your many videos, you have always been consistent and balanced in demonstrating "drug store" type products and "higher end" products. One small change in this video would be to invest in a true silk pillow case and not a satin one. Satin pillowcases are usually polyester and hot to sleep on.

I love wearing my hair curly instead of just leaving it straight! Of course, it takes a lot more effort. I'd love to see you try a Target or Freddy's curly girl beginner shopping list! A full updated diffusing video would be cool to see.
On a different note, last year my hair was incredibly low porosity and I couldn't hold my style to save my life. Since I got my hair highlighted it has absorbed product a lot better but I hope my hairdresser didn't leave the bleach in for too long. She did double book that day.

I finally found my perfect drying routine! I noticed in the past that if I go straight to diffusing after using my products ( 10-in-1 priming spray, LUS leave in for wavy hair, and Verb foaming gel followed by a generous spray of hair spray) it tends to soften up my cast too much. But if I air dry for about 30 to 45 min and let that really hard cast form then go in with the diffuser, I get way better results!! I get hardly any frizz at all and it takes no time to diffuse. Then I scrunch out the crunch with my Verb ghost oil and OMG it makes my hair so soft and shiny and bouncy. I got 3 compliments randomly from people this week on my hair and prior to that I probably hadn't gotten compliments like that since I was in my early 20s lol. I'm 41 now and my hair looks the best it ever has. Thank you so much for inspiring me to wear my natural wavy/curly hair. I watch a ton of curly girls but your videos and Manes by Mell have inspired me the most to do my current routine. My hair feels amazing and I just can't stop wanting to touch it and look at it lol.

Tousle me softly mousse. I wash at night, air dry, sleep on cotton pillow case. I spray water on hair in the morning, ringlets, curls, waves appear. So easy. Can go days without washing😊

I kept learning from you and don't have things 100% yet (still some frizz issues. But the ability to wash my hair every 10 days if I'm having a bad chronic Illness week (sadly, you know about that), and have it still look ok till the tail end of that has been HUGE. CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH, COURTNEY!!! 🎉

I also tried curling cream with soaking wet hair, then moose with wet, and gel with damp. I appreciate your videos so much! They have helped me so much in attempting to have healthier hair and bring out my hidden waves. I have been wondering about heat protectant. I usually diffuse, but I very easily frizz, so i've not even dared to use medium heat. I actually have the exact blow dryer and diffuser you used in this video! Every time i diffuse my hair I wonder if I'm damaging it. Before trying the wavy/curly techniques, i would always use heat protectant before blow drying or straighening, but I was also using much more heat. I've not heard anyone in the wavy/curly discussions mention using heat protectant, so i was wondering about your thoughts on whether diffusing can damage your hair and the use of heat protectant. I don't even know if there are heat protectants out there that would be good for hair.

I’ve started using a variation of this lineup, and it reinforces that I have curls! I cannot recommend the products that you chose more because they are a good baseline of products to get you started AND if you don’t love one or two products you can swap them out! I’m currently in the process of swapping out the conditioner because it seems to aggravate my scalp, and I just went and grabbed the not your mother’s styling products. They are ✨amazing✨.

Thanks so much for this video!!! I’m so glad to have you and your product/ingredient knowledge. I’m so frustrated - I bought Carol’s Daughter black vanilla shampoo and conditioner and both said silicone, parabin and sulfate free. I have been using them for five months assuming they were curly girl friendly. Today in the shower, I was reading the directions to see how long I could leave the conditioner on my hair as it’s super dry right now…and I glanced at the ingredients only to find both dimethicone and amodimethicone!!! This seems like completely false advertising and now I need to clarify, deep condition and find a new product while traveling on the road. I can’t believe I missed this - but I guess I should have read beyond the front of the bottle :-( Any thoughts on what to use for super dry hair that needs a regular, heavy moisture routine and is price sensitive. I really want to stick to curly girl approved products so I can minimize clarifying since it really seems to strip my natural oils. Thanks for any advice you may have!

I have really fine hair (thanks to all the cancer treatments-but hey I’m still here) so it literally will dry overnight in a bun. When I take it down in the morning, the inside might be a bit damp but dries within a half hour, literally. It just works for me. Is that bad? Not using a dryer?

Couldn't you use a little baking soda added to the shampoo in your hand when you wash your hair in place of a sulfate shampoo? And deep condition afterward. Just wondering if that would be an option.

I think this routine would weigh down/over condition my hair, at least right now. After about 6 months of doing more moisturizing products (gels, mostly) I no longer can use a conditioner and moisturizing gel at the same time. I use garnier clean gel, super basic. I also think I need to avoid coconut oil in general. I also have to be cautious of using too many oil containing products in general. My hair has not seen heat since starting and its super fine. Porosity might be changing for me.

This stuff would be too heavy for me too I have very tight waves , but they are fine and fragile, and I also can get a lot of buildup if i use heavy product. Shea moisture and all that definitely caused build up and felt very heavy. You have to use what works for you

Okay... so... keratosis pilaris. Extra keratin buildup around the hair follicles. I thought it was only happening on my arms and legs, but oh boy was I wrong - it is on my scalp too. I already have thin hair, so deep exfoliation frightens me a bit. There are some shampoo products out there manufactured for this problem, but I have not found any that are curly girl friendly. Thoughts? I do not want to overstrip my hair and put it in a frenzy to create more grease and/or keratin. When I exfoliate my arms and legs, I need to put on a lot of lotion afterwards because they are so dry. I am thinking the same would go for my scalp... meaning if I add moisture, I will have the flat hair because it is thin. I would rather have flat hair then feel all of the little bumps on my scalp though!!!

that pillow case says satin, not silk. Silk tends to feel dry, and satin is slick and shiny.

Just to clarify... you purchased a satin pillow case and looked at satin hair ties. Satin (poly, acetate, etc) is very similar to silk satin, but the textiles do have some important differences, especially when being used long term. If you can afford a silk satin pillow case, it makes all the difference in the world. Every person I have gifted one to (including my step-mom, who rolled her eyes because she interpreted it as "fancy" and she has an "anti-fancy" esthetic) has been effusive in the praise for how much better it is than satin (well... except my step mom, who was sleeping on the cotton/poly blend pillow case that came with their sheets -- which may partially explain why she saw such a difference).

I use Dove Coconut and Hydration Shampoo. It contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate which is a less harsh sulfate than Sodiim Lauryl Sulfate or Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate. It is not clarifying, but does clean well on an everyday basis.

I just bought a dryer and diffuser. Maybe new tools will motivate me to diffuse rather than air dry! 😊
I hair stylist is really knowledgeable about wavy curly hair. She knew exactly how to layer my hair to maximize my waves. I showed her the Wet brush I bought to develop curl clumps, and I found it not to work well. She said, "Of course not! With your hair, you need to invest in a Denman brush!"
Courtney, please consider reviewing Amika wavy/curly styling products? My stylist says her wavy/curly clients love the power hour curl refreshing spray, curl corps gel, and curl corps cream. I am interested in your assessment. Amika has shampoo and conditioner, but I do not know what to try.
Just said a prayer for you and yours. He is Risen!

Courtney, before you started styling curly, did hair stylists tell you that you had curly hair when they washed it as part of a cut?
I look at your hair and it seems less curly than mine when wet, and it's definitely less wavy then mine when it air dries. But my hair isn't quite as curly as yours after diffusing, and no where near as curly by the end of the day. My curly hair stylist is similarly frustrated every time she cuts and styles it she can't figure out what's happening, other than to say that maybe I just have too much hair.

    • @sunflowerbaby1853
      @sunflowerbaby1853 7 месяцев назад +1

That is ridiculous. Having too much hair does not prevent it from going curly. I have a huge mop of hair and as much as I would like it to dry straight it will dry wavy. If I diffuse it it will dry curly.

My hair is very curly when wet but dries wavy and by the end of the day it’s quite straight it is however quite long and all one length I’m wondering if I should get some long layers put in. If I diffuse it my hair goes much straighter than if I leave it to air dry I’m so confused with my hair at times

🤣 Your curls do the opposite.
Long layers would help hold the weight of your curls and might make them last longer. Under no circumstances allow them to thin out your hair with thinning shears. It will ruin your curl clumps.
And really interview potential hairdressers. Find one who know how to cut curls and long hair. Unfortunately most do not and just want to chop length off. And you may also try a curl enhancing spray.
For me it makes my wavy curls into spiral curls. Good luck!
