Molly - I'm a violin teacher - it is one of the more exasperating instruments out there, to put it mildly. You did amazingly, amazingly well!! And I admire your stamina - that was a very long session for a first timer! You have a lot of talent, picked it up really quickly (I take several weeks to teach all of that, and I bet so does Rob). Be of good cheer - the violin is so much muscle memory and so little using the eyes I always have to get to my students to either close their eyes, look away or focus entirely on the music to get that visual input to stop interfering with what their ears and muscles are telling them.
Henry - her first (and only) lesson was an hour - they edited it down to 22 minutes because, as you know only too well, lots of the violin practice is kind of boring to watch! Keep at it - you're at a perfect age to learn violin. I hope I get to hear to some day.
OMG I can so relate to this! I am 13 and I am legally blind and I am learning to play the violin. Honestly it is really hard to learn the violin when you have a visual impairment. Thank you Rob for making this video
I relate to. Literally see so much people saying do this and this and this... It gets really frustrating trying to find videos that explain how to play well. I've learned some of the Violin when I was younger, but then I quit, I regret it haha.
If anyone is confused about how Yi Ling uses technology, Molly actually made a video on that! She can listen to the audio of videos, and you can use voice to type messages/comments. I’m not blind myself so idk the specifics, but Molly’s video is really good if you want to know more
This is great. I am also blind, and I’ve been playing the violin for five years. I’m subscribe to both of you guys, and I always watch all your guises videos. You guys are awesome.
Emerald Gaming Im blind, and yes blind people watch. We watch, and we see but just in a different way. We have other senses. And just because we are blind doesn’t mean we can’t use technology and RUclips like sighted people
Alina Trebunskaya Plus… For a blind person to say, “oh… I listened to this video”, it would just sound weird, wouldn’t it? That’s why blind people just say that they watched something, instead of saying they listened to it.
Great video! I had the chance to teach a blind violin student once and he seemed to have a natural gift for good intonation. I would say blind people can definitely become good violinists if they want to.
I’m so glad that you were that person to change the world and let everyone/anyone be able to know how to play and hear how the violin sounds! I play the violin too You are the best! I really enjoyed this video!
I just love the fact that you are helping someone who has problems seeing and that you inspired her and that she is taking a big step and challenge by learning this in a small amount of time
My son gave me a violin years ago but I never could afford lessons. This video has inspired me to try via youtube lessons. Is that even possible? I can't read music either. Lol. I'm incredibly music challenged. I find it frustrating that I can't hold the bow in my left hand, since I'm left handed and it feels natural to use my right on the neck. Good instructions, you're so patient. Great job Molly and Rob! Impressive!
This made me cry! I’ve been playing violin for 14 years and just recently dislocated my right shoulder and need surgery.. Dr. said that it will be about 6 months until I can play again... it has only been a week, and I am going crazy not practicing every day... y’all are awesome!!
I’m 15 years old and legally blind. I’ve played violin for nine years. I learned with the Suzuki method when I was younger and started reading music when I was nine. It’s been quite an adventure finding teachers that actually help and understand what I need, as well as finding the best way to read music.
Wow... the violin is a very visual instrument at first, I'm impressed! But yes, haha, you do have to basically make yourself as uncomfortable as possible :P Well, you get used to it so after a while it's no longer uncomfortable and feels more natural. Good job, Molly!
Wow, wish I could find someone with your level of patience to teach me how to play. My last teacher had no patience for visually impaired students and taught in the exasperatingly hot room of a high school in the middle of summer and kept the one and only fan in the room pointed at himself. Even the parents were frustrated with him.
Oh my God! That is so good Rob. I feel really confident about the world and me and I get really happy when I see such a patient person like you teaching so beautifully. I am from Brazil, how do I do to meet you?
Awesome! I want lessons. I have a few observations: G string, E string After bridge, Pinky goes here, This is A. Back to first... I have two Violins from a Great Guy, who played with Dolly Parton. I want to learn!
I too am a visually impaired and wanted to play violin I did not even touch and see the shape and size of it, but it sounds pretty awesome and i also heard that to play violin is very tough Love from india
Hello bro. You are the best playing the violin ,, if ever I ask a questions about violin ,,would that be okay for you? I am learning but no one to teach me how ,A am an Organist/pianist but I am interested to violin like the way you teach,,then I saw your videos, ,,really inspired me ,,thank you ,I hope you read it
Hi, so about 5 months ago I comment at one of your video’s that I wanted to learn to play the violin but my parents didn’t let me and you said that it was never to late to learn. I got a violin for Christmas 🎉. But it isn’t going that well, I don’t have lessons I’m learning from RUclips. Do you have some tips for me?
My friend is blind and she can belly dance, she can also play ukulele, guitar AND VIOLIN!! I am so impressed by her. Dont let being blind hold you back!
Hey Rob! I have a question.... I play the violin, taking grade 6 soon, so I feel a bit silly asking this! But my violin teacher when I first started positioned my fingers all above the bow. You told Molly that the only one above is the pinky?! Have I been doing it wrong all these years? 😭 xx
I might've missed it since I watched part of it while I was extremely drowsy, but I think he should've had Molly feel parts of the violin and understand where the bridge is and that sort of thing. Of course it's still difficult because a bow is a very long extension that you can't feel but it might've helped her stay in the right spot. Nevermind, she felt it right after I wrote that.
I am visually impaired as well but I have some vision. I started playing the violin in the 5th grade. I wasn’t the best violinist throughout the years, but I was dedicated and kept trying. I miss playing the violin.

I came to your channel via Molly's today. You are THE most gracious teacher ever. Thank you for your content.

“I’m a small human” Same Molly, same! I don’t use a shoulder rest either.
AYE BATYBOY She has technology that reads comments on her videos, tweets, etc to her. Whether she’ll bother to use it on Rob’s video I don’t know.
this is amazing that she can play like that even though she is blind. I can barely play a chord 😂😂😂
👏🏽 “perfect” duet.

Congratulations Rob for the idea!
She did pretty good!
Early squad where you at!!!!!
So cool!
Thanks!
Melhor professor kkkkk❤👏🌟
Great video! What kind of violin do you play?
Nice!
Who do you happen to be? I've seen you comment on my comments quite a few times. Do I know you?
Quite the obsession, for not even knowing me.
Nobuyuki Tsujii is used to handle the violin before the keyboard. He is visually impaired when being born.
Aww good for her
Amazing 😍😂

19:30 was so funny, she has a sense of humor too! Awesome!
Xie Jerry she’s a youtuber as well, and has her own channel. this is part of a collab she and rob did.
She’s a boss🤑
The answer is yes. Look up Ruben Varga.
Hey Rob! I have a question.... I play the violin, taking grade 6 soon, so I feel a bit silly asking this! But my violin teacher when I first started positioned my fingers all above the bow. You told Molly that the only one above is the pinky?! Have I been doing it wrong all these years? 😭 xx
Maybe not! I'd have to see your bow hold. The only fingertip I have on top of the bow is the pinky, and the rest go over the side.
Rob Landes ohh okay! Thanks!! I have been watching Molly for a long time, I was so happy to see this! You’re so lovely ☺️
Yea I play violin to and the pinky is on top...the rest r kinda just hanging on the side
I don't know much about violin but maybe it's the Baroque hold?
Teach me violin!!!
very nice video rob
Thanks Jeronimo!
