Yep. I play Bassoon and I used to always rush things in my lessons and my teacher would just say "stop. I'm not going to be impressed by your speed, impress me with accuracy". Even today in my lessons he does not tolerate mistakes but makes me slow down and play correctly. It's made me a much better musician and I'm so grateful
You are so lucky, and its so good that you acknowledge it. My first teacher in piano would let me do mistakes often, which discouraged me from taking a piece seriously and trying hard to play it. Thank god i switched to an excelent, amazing and much more strict teacher in piano, and began playing this instrument as I should. Although sometimens I still struglle to this day when practising and initially playing at low speed to learn a piece.
Maybe if I had that second teacher from the begining, things wouls have turned a little different, and i would be more precise in my playing than today.
Omg same with mine and I love how my teacher is continually reminding me, it’s truly made me better at being a musician
My teacher is the same. The way she puts it when I rush through pieces is, "Never sacrifice clarity for speed". I am also incredibly grateful to her for making me really dive deep into the finer points of playing.

More like "Fright" of the Bumblebee.
I think the reason he chose Bumblebee was because it already sounds like it’s just buzzing, so it be the hardest to hear the difference for non musicians.
Very true. I would like to hear him play some classical pieces and see if he actually knows how to do it. Take Picasso for example. He was actually an amazing artist before he came up with his abstract painting. I mean he could draw people's actual portraits. One needs to be good at a skill before they can build on it. Otherwise you get this mess that this kiddo just played.
@@KD-oc3xx you can just not compare Piccaso with this guy!! Maybe he can play classical pieces too but what he does with the Bumblebee its a joke and a very bad example to younger violinists who now think the fastest you play the better. Korsakov didnt intend that his piece sounds like this.....a good composer expects that the notes he writes can be heard....
@@gabrielahumada7232 Kim Tanner appears to agree with you... as do I. We all think that this guy was very messy. Not a personal fan of most of Picasso's work, but I can still see he has talent and he came from talent. This guy... I'm no violinist, and it's easy to catch mistakes on my instrument (piano), but the difference in quality is very obvious to me. On the Guinness video, the pinned comment even says that "the record has been rested", which makes any future attempts to beat it -- including this disastrous mess -- impossible.
I'm in no way a professional in any music area. I'm not a musician or anything. But I can definitely hear the difference. My ears are bleeding from hearing him
Only if you're deaf would you "not hear the difference." I'm not a musician, but I'm also not an idiot.
My memory may fail me but when our boy David Garret did the record a computer checked the number of correct notes. With this that full-of-himself electric smileonolist had no chance at all
That's what I was wondering, surely a world record attempt at anything needs to be checked if it's accurate or not? I could play a single note and say it's the world record, if they don't check to see if I played it correctly then I get it....
@@benclimo461maybe he got rejected later. He just got famous for attempting to break such a record, got on, showcased his violin, and later got rejected for his attempt.
@@benclimo461 Since this video, the World Guiness Record has announced that they wouldn't take into account the fastest instrument players anymore because it had became too difficult to judge the accuracy of the piece being played. The entire category doesn't exist anymore.

I happened to find you guys by accident & I am enjoying it very much. I am in my 70+ years & was a violist since 9 years of age until few years ago. I had to let my violin playing go because of arthritis in my hands. Thank goodness I can still play the piano some. violin playing can be very serious but you bring humor to it.
This is from the Fuse website:
"Linzi and Ben took differing routes into FUSE, though their backgrounds have much in common. Both learned violin using the Suzuki method which Ben describes as, “A rock n roll way of learning because it trains the ear rather than focusing on theory or reading music.” Both performed many of their first public shows busking."
So yeah, they admit on their website they dont know what the fuck they are doing... lol
LOL
I learned some very intricate pieces on the piano using Suzuki method, it sounds beautiful and it has trained my ear quite well, as it's my only tool to mimic what the composer intended. The drawback? I CANT SIGHT READ FOR SHIT. Like yeah sure I can match a few simple chords by ear, but PEOPLE WHO CAN SIGHT READ CAN ALSO DO THAT. anyway, been practicing sight reading lately, but my fingers memorize pieces faster than my brain does and then I stop sight reading :(
The Suzuki method is actually great for children, it's an approach where you learn music the same way you learn your mother tongue. Brett and Eddy themselves started violin as kids through the Suzuki method.
The thing is that you don't stop there. Once you learned how to speak, you go to school to learn to read and write, grammar, spelling, etc.
It's the same way in music. Once the child is old enough, s/he learns how to read sheet music and takes more formal lessons to deepen his/her understanding of music.

About the "if you can do it slow, you can do it fast" it's actually pretty good advice. But for learning a piece. If you can play it accurately at half tempo, then you can at full tempo, it'll just take some time of course. I disagree with the going faster than needed though.
Example, i just got a new piece for my drum line, i failed horribly trying to play it fast. But when I got home and took it slow, i could do it. Then I gradually took it quicker, cause I know how to play it, i just need to play it faster and on tempo.

That roast video made guiness world record retire any type of fast musician record!
They only made Guinness make a disclaimer on David Garette's video. The retirement of these records has nothing to do with this video and the decision was made before the video. Check Reddit for full story.
I'm German and I remember the show where David Garrett achieved his world record. They actually had people listening in the background, while the show was still going on, if David hit EVERY SINGLE NOTE. So there were at least some fair requirements for the attempt to count. I don't know why they haven't kept that up for the next attempts.
Even when he played at a "normal pace" (the marked tempo), if you put it on .25 you can clearly tell that some notes are very out of tune. When he played 15 notes per second, I couldn't even hear the rhythm. There were skipped notes, it sped up and slowed down, and it really didn't sound like music.
