Pau Gasol Full Series Highlights
2009 NBA Finals
LA Lakers vs Orlando Magic
- 18.6 ppg, 9.2r, 2.2a, 1.8b / 60% fg, 78% ft
Led by Kobe Bryant & Pau Gasol, the 2008-09 Lakers finished the regular season atop the Western Conference with 65 wins. 28 year-old Pau made his second All-Star game and received his first All-NBA selection, good for 3rd team. Through the first three rounds of the playoffs, Gasol posted 18.2p and 11.3r on 57% in 18 games.
The Finals presented Pau with perhaps his toughest matchup of the postseason in Dwight Howard. Along with 7’0 Andrew Bynum, the Lakers’ bigs were able to hold Dwight to only a shade over 15 ppg, down significantly from his 20.6p season and 21.7p EC Playoffs averages. Pau provided his squad 18.6 ppg in the 5 game series win over Orlando, able to avenge his mediocre and deemed “soft” performance against the Celtics a year prior. He contributed greatly down the stretch of games 2 and 4, while also adding 14p, 15r and 4b in game 5, helping to officially complete the Lakers’ 12 month quest to bring the franchise its 15th championship.

Should the Lakers retire Pau’s #16 jersey?
That’s a tough one, with the history of big men that played for the Lakers idk if he makes the cut. Definitely a great player
Definitely Kobe said so himself in an interview.
Yes
Easily!! He is important to Kobe and Phil just like james worthy was to magic and pat riley in the 80s
We need more pau laker content to show how unstoppable he was during his prime
This dude is criminally underrated
Im from Greece. Pau is my favorite European player ever .So skilled . It is a joy to see him playing. He can post , he can shot from midrange , great athleticism , great technique , good defender also. A complete basketball player.
Yesssss
Pau ha sido muy grande
I miss this era so much. The perfect balance of bigman post play, physicality on defense, and today’s perimeter play. Not too much to one side like today.
I have the complete opposite mindset lol
@@samhartje723 ye
This is the best era to me. From 07-14. It was a great time to watch basketball
completely agree.
Just stop watching the NBA like I did!
Pau Gasol is definitely one of the most underrated players of all time. Great footwork and can shoot.
Pau was the most important piece to these Lakers runs. He was the perfect anchor to a stifling defense, and the fulcrum through which the entire offense flowed. He didn't always jump off the stats sheet, but whether he got the points, assists or not, the elite passing and screening were the foundation of that late 2000s Laker offense.
Yesssss
Gasol, a beast
From 2008-2010 Pau Gasol was the best big man in the world.
Hell no
Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki????
I agree. The way he helped anchor the triangle offense at that time was a thing of beauty. He did far more than his points and assists show. His hockey assist totals if we were to look back must have been off the charts.
@@derekpizarro4675 KG fell off by 2010 , Dirk , Tim and Dwight were all still better tho
@@moneyman9295 I don’t think so. KG was still a beast until 2012
Without him they don’t hang banners 15 and 16. They’ve got to retire his jersey!
15 & 16 what you talking about ?? Lmao
@@felix3033 Championship banners. Without Pau they don’t hang up Championship banners 15 and 16.
@@jamalabdelbaset6635 how old are you ? They win in 2009 & 2010 😂😂
@@felix3033 I know that. The Lakers as a team have now won 17 championships. I’m saying without him they don’t hang banners 15 (09) and 16(10).
@@jamalabdelbaset6635 👍 my bad
15:35 man that hits hard to see but is also beautiful, rest in peace Kobe and Gigi
I love Pau and Marc Gasols’ play styles, they weren’t 3 point shooters but could do just about everything else (including make free throws, thank God)
They weren't 3 pont shooters in their beginings but, when the league started demanding centers to shoot 3s, they both became pretty good 3 point shooters. Pau has a season shooting over 50% from 3 in more than 100 attempts and Marc Gasol made only 12 3p in his first 8 seansons and then made 104 in his 9th seanson at 38.8% rate. They weren't like Markanen but they were better 3 point shooters than the majority of nowadays centers.
Pau is the greatest center ever, of course yes!
Yes
Im Spanish. Im so proud of Pau Gasol
Olé tú
Hella of a player
Great video
9:50 a thing of beauty
THANK YOU 🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦💪💪💪💪 BEST player EVER , more videos PLEASE 🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦
Uhhhh que grande Pau
Kobe's foul on Dwight at 10:10 was so cerebral. So easy to miss little stuff like that. Another great vid, thanks!
Great job on this! I'm glad you've highlighted these Finals a few times. The series was short, but it still had some competitive games and great performances.
Thanks always 🙏 And no doubt, crazy how a play or two in game 4 could’ve put the series at 2-2. Or even courtney lee’s layup in g2. Instead leading 3-1 lakers wrapped it up in g5.
@@dcshow Exactly! There's such a small margin for error once two great teams are in playoff series.
@@dcshow Pau Gasol could be the best center in Spain history and even defeats Marc Gasol, even Yao Ming had a hard time taking on him.
Pau was something else... And no one mentions how close this series was. 2 OT games were supposed to be Orlando's and yet the Lakers refused to lose. If Lee converted the alley oop and Howard made at least 1 FT, series would have been very different
14:56 Gigi and Kobe may rest in peace
i'm not crying man
Such a beast!!
That behind the back over the shoulder pass at 9:53 by Kobe to Pau was sick asf
lakers made this series every easy, imagine how they will they beat the cavs, 4-0
PAU WAS KEY PART FOR 2 OF THOSE BANNERS COMPLETED THE DREAM DUO.
How different that NBA was when compared with today.
Pau Gasol doesn't get enough credit for the success of the Lakers in this era from fans 💯
Pau Gasol NBA
Lakers 2009 is the best
one of 4 men to have more than 20ks points 11ks rebounds 3500 asists and 1500 blocks
Pau is one of my favorite Lakers players ever. Sad how mistreated he got towards the latter half of his tenure there. But at least they retired his jersey, and it’s well deserved!
I never said this before Kobe Bryant is it Goat 20 years for one teen That's amazing 81 point game against Toronto It's gonna be many years somebody to break to 81 point record
One of my producers sent me a beat called ‘09 Gasol so I had to come back and relive this greatness before I start writing the song...this just motivated me so much wow
look gasol vs france at eurobasket 2015 , he win alone that game 40p in paris ruclips.net/video/B-WdsvIN9mQ/видео.html , i swear thats go to motivate you
I'm from the NY area and I'm a loyal Knicks fan. I used to root for the Lakers when they had Jerry West and Lew Alcindor but for the past decade I have come to hate the Lakers. I think it may have started when they got Magic Johnson and how that season ended ..
Then you had the 1980-81 season, when Johnson signed a 25-year, $25 million contract with the Lakers (equivalent to $75,000,000 in 2021), which was the highest-paying contract in sports history up to that point. Early in the 1981-82 season, Johnson had a heated dispute with Coach Westhead, who Johnson said made the Lakers "slow" and "predictable". After Johnson demanded to be traded, Lakers owner Jerry Buss fired Westhead and replaced him with Riley. Although Johnson denied responsibility for Westhead's firing, he was booed across the league, even by Laker fans. Buss was also unhappy with the Lakers' offense and had intended on firing Westhead days before the Westhead-Johnson altercation, but assistant GM Jerry West and GM Bill Sharman had convinced Buss to delay his decision. That always stuck in my craw. Then of course we have LeBron James .. don't even get me started !!! This guy Pau Gasol is a class act though. Watching this video, I caught myself rooting for the Lakers for the first time in 30 years !!! He's a really tough player and he seems like a really good person. Ole' Pau !!! ~
Shout-out to Sasha "the machine" Vujocic..
He needs to be in the HoF
2:50 the difference a few years make
Damn Pau and Bynum twin center lol
The era of PF and C ended with Pau and Duncan. Makes AD look average
I forgot that at that series Bynum was injured, so Gasol's role was even more crucial.
Did anyone see him fall down while taking a shot? Anthony Davis would be getting off the deck half a dozen times.😂
That Pau was way more skilled then Dirk court vision screen play defensive work and KG was not even at his kategory at that time. Funny how some judge only by the stats sheet when bball is way more then the scorecards 😂😂
KOBE brought that BEAST out of Gasol. It's REAL EASY to look back and say Gasol had heart and guts before Kobe NO! Gasol was soft as cotton before Kobe turned that man into a monster #RIPmamba
That is just not true. Maybe Kobe brought that extra out of Pau, but he was already a great basketball player before meeting Kobe.
@@TheClash79Elxeven Gasol admits that Kobe drove him to be better, and pushed him to be and help him to be a different Beast. quit being a hater
This were the days also that Dwight Howard is Dwight Howard
Dang only player that has a chance to even make it back to the nba from this game is Dwight Howard everybody else is retired
Kobe bryant is the greatest nba player no one will beat him!
NBA
Who's here after the Lakers just retired Gasol's Jersey?
so happy his jersey was retired. Lakers don't win shit without him those years
Rashard Lewis was in the torture chamber all series long.
Dwight got his ring at LA
😁
I didn’t realize how bad the Magic choked in a few games this series.
15:35 Kobe and Gigi T_T
Gasol and Bynum were like the teachers vs the fifth graders. . .
correction.. Gasol and Odom.. Bynum that time still too young and limited playing time.
Jersey getting retired W
10:15 howard missed both 😂
. 3:31 .
After this series Dwight Howard was never the big man He was that led him to the NBA finals I believe he took that team to the NBA finals he was the key to the magics but after losing in the finals he just couldn't take a team there he probably played on the team that made it there and he wasn't the star starter but he did take Orlando magic there and he just never was the same after this series
Uuúuuuuuú
