This is literally the only positive review I've seen of this game
Yeah, and it wasn't even _that_ positive. That's saying something for the game.
50Calabyte Yeah, but this is Yahtzee. Now THAT's saying something.
I think his review of the Orange box was his most positive review
Mike0748 What about Psychonaughts?
NOICKNOICK fair point. that was a really really positive review but I think he seemed to like portal just a bit more but Psychonaughts is way up there :P
it's really surreal when Yahtzee likes a video game MORE than most people
+Flailmorpho Yeah, IKR? Angry Joe put this game in third place on his "Worst Games of 2013" video. This video completely baffles me, I expected Yahtzee to tear this game a new but enormous one, with several rusty knives being involved.
+Calvin Clark except people like angry joe probably rate shit like call of duty ghosts game of the year
@@darkartsdabbler2407 you clearly haven't watched Angry Joe
+Franco Centola I've seen like two videos. Both times he seemed to dislike the game because it was different and didn't spoon feed more of the same tired tropes and conventions to the player, so yeah
It's very simple really: Yahtzee's #1 favourite thing in gaming is emergent gameplay, anything unscripted that allows him to create his own personalised story as a consequence of his own actions. He loves any chance to flex his narrative creative muscles. It's why Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor was his GOTY in 2014, or why he didn't go so hard on Watch Dogs: Legion. He will forgive MANY sins (such as being a generally garbage game) if it procedurally generates an adventure that is unique to him.
"and then the music guy tripped and fell on every button on his mixing desk"
XD
You bet on Kratos becoming a teenager in a reboot, and he ended up becoming a tired old dad. So close yet so wrong.
But with a preteen son...
Mother of all twist!
The kid is actually young Kratos, the man we saw in the trailer was Kratus, his father, and the whole game is about Kratos's childhood in scadinavia.
Or, alternatively, Kratos actually slumbered for centuries, and is now in charge of a kid who's actually a double of himself from the past, and now, with the help of a wacky reporter who blames Kratos for the murder of his dad, Kratos must fight the legion of Valhalla while wearing a skintight jumpsuit and sexy librarian glasses.
This explains why he's bald. All of the hair is taken up on those weapon chains!
+Black INK.I.M
"The kid is actually young Kratos, the man we saw in the trailer was
Kratus, his father, and the whole game is about Kratos's childhood in
scadinavia."
shit, that was pretty much what i was gonna say, right down to the "TWIST!" part.
are you my long lost twin?
Rob Dillenger
TWIST!
I'm you, you're actually the long lost twin.
What's amazing is that Zero Punctuation was actually nicer to this game than most other reviewers for once lol
"They have the life expectancy of a little lost lamb sheltering from the rain in a nuclear test silo."
My sides.
I actually feel like if Surival Instinct had had a real development cycles (ie. an extra year of work) it could have actually been pretty good. The basic ideas were good, but the whole thing was slapped together too quickly.
I'd honestly like a sequel to be made for this game. I really enjoyed it. Plus there's the infinite respawning zombies so the tension isn't ever truly lost.
The one reviewer on this fucking planet who actually talked about this game in a positive light. Anyone ele seeing the irony here?
Semyon Galtsev Irony is the opposite of what you expect to happen.
No one would expect one of the most critical reviewers to praise one of the most critically panned games of 2013.
You don't know what irony means.
hall9111 It's quite ironic that you tried to correct him, but got the correction wrong
It's ironic that you did not know the definition of irony and tried to correct his definition of irony.
IRONY-CEPTION
Yahtzee is the only person I've seen who's nice to this game
Yeah, everyone else shit's down its mouth like it's a toilet.
Smoosh Master I think it's because Telltale's The Walking Dead game had already come out and the two were immediately compared, with this one obviously being the worse of the two.
raise your hand if you thought he was about to destroy this game before you watched the video.
✋
I played this game and it greatly confuses me how Yahtzee didn't rip this game apart like he would a freshly baked pie.....
Captain Rave Slendy yes
Captain Rave Slendy I know right it bothered the hell out of me that he didn't tear this 100 new assholes
Captain Rave Slendy I kinda see what he sees in the game yes it's bad and people shit on it alot and i don't disagree but it had potential and intresting idea to be a great game but it was wasted it and i had some fun playing it but i wouldn't remember it after a week
KaaL SpawN It's almost more insulting they kept the price of this game at 60$ for so long and this isn't even worth 10$
+Gromulous Straine I'm still wondering why he likes DS. he doesn't seem like he'd have the paitence for it or he'd point out more of the flaws. guess he really likes suffering
cant.... stop.... watching.... his.. vids...
Wellcome... to.... the.... club....
Jonte Nitsew one...day....you...will...see...them...all
will...it...just..end........noooooooo it cant.... need more.
You don't have to stop, Chris. You don't have to stop.
Honest to god, if you hadn't commented this I would have tapped another video! Thank you my brethren! I am free to sleep and panic about exams!
But just one more...
That is it, Yahtzee is the greatest reviewer ever! Instead of shifting on a beaten, dead horse, he praises this game for TRYING to be different. I respect this opinion and find it even more believable of the entire experience.
Also like the TV show it emphasizes that the threat behind them is just how many of the bastards there are. Taking on one zombie is a cakewalk, but charging into a dozen of the buggers with more waiting behind every corner is suicidal.
That was an amazing Cask of Amontillado reference. *Claps* Well done sir, well done!
I think he 'liked' this game the same way he liked Never Dead, it's a shit game but the ideas behind it were at least fairy original and solid, just terribly executed.
You can like parts of a game. We're used to thinking in terms of bad or good with no in between, but that's stupid.
"They had to cut corners like it was crunch time at the circle factory!"
-yahtzee
when an Edgar Allen Poe reference is made :D
watching this now, He called god of war 2018 almost perfectly.
I don't get why he failed to mention that the game barely works and all of its core mechanics are broken chores...
Might have fixed it maybe he was lucky who fucking knows...
+Ray Fanning nah, ray.
It all worked perfectly fine for me.
Yahtzee is deliberately contentious: He shits on Triple-A games he doesn't explicitly love and creams his pants over bare-bones second-tier titles. This is the nature of the game reviewer: to make everyone mad at them for being bad at their job.
Ex Metu Veres Go on the the Yahtzee Recommends curator page on Steam, then tell me he shits on Triple A games
This may amaze you, but some people have very high standards and Yahtzee shits on indie games just as much as Triple A. I am setsuna, amy, PUBG and hellblade just to name a few
I really dont understand why this game exists. isn't what separates the walking dead from other zombie movies or TV shows is that it focuses on the human relationships and the hard choices people must make to survive and all that rather than just mindless zombie killing. that's why Telltalls the walking dead did so well and yatzee is right in saying that its weird for this game to focal on action when it the opposite that made the other game so good.
Exactly!
Zombie apocalypse was old hat. Now it's a dusty, torn up section of brim that came off an old hat cause the rest of the old hat was eaten by a stegosaurus.
I dunno, I agree with Yahtzee. Sure, it wasn't great, but I found it more tense than most zombie games these days...
It has flaws but if you if you look pass them, you will find it interesting...maybe it's just me, though XD
I remember playing this game to try it out, by far the best moment in the entire game was when my car broke down and I needed to find a replacement hose, in the area that I spawned in there were no walkers, no music other than the ambiance, and it was late afternoon setting. This was the only time the game had ever scared me because of the buildup and paranoia of a zombie horde possibly coming out of nowhere, I find that if a zombie game is scariest and most enjoyable when there are no zombies then it is usually a colossal failure.
Surely that makes it a huge success? As the beauty of a great horror game is not to scare us directly but to let yourself get scared by the potential of something happening when nothing is happening at all. It's all about building an atmosphere so when the game is quiet, it is still scary.
Adam Davies Yeah, this was easily the greatest moment in the game for me... Unfortunately the rest of the game was all just jumpscares, moans, scripted events and other bullshit.
southparkkenny2 Sounds like a good porno.
WanderingIdiot81 Sorry, not right now... cleaning the 'Miley Cyrus' off my wrecking ball
It's odd to see the "take a look at other contributors" bit and realize all of them had left the Esc.
barthvader95 It's kind of sad as well.
barthvader95 Yeah. The Escapist actually had a great line up of talent. Yahtzee needs some new "escapist chums".
I wish there was some more people in the escapists for Yahtzee to collaborate with
Oh hey, heard of the next generation of god of war, HE HAS A KID
So many other people have given this game crap but I quite agree with pretty much everything you said. When I play a survival horror game I expect tension, RE hasn't done proper tension since RE2 (ok 4 was great but different than 2) if they could make a game with RE4 gameplay with the feel of RE2 I think we would find survival horror nirvana.
Remember when zombies would break down doors smash through windows and break through the ceiling in game and not via cut-scene? Those were the moments that forced me to buy a new set of pants in a drawer labeled 'For RE2 only' also you're welcome lol
The two first two dead space basically did exactly would you said, it instilled feeling of helpless and terror in the player with scarce resources, hyper aggressive enemies in low light environments.
Yes but it just wasn't a resident evil game, still good though
joseph clisham ya but after about 1/2 an hour every encounter was predictable. I still say the first Deadspace could have been a great survival amd even psychological horror gem if they learned better pacing
The amontillado reference was just perfect XD
i love your reviews, cant wait for the fall of this year alot of great game releases!!
its nice to finally know of another fan of the show
Exactly, watching the gameplay videos just makes me depressed and think, "You could have been so much more!". Now I know how my parents feel.
LOL when he talks about god of war on the shelf you can see bioshock with "next week alright?" on it XD
I love the extended version of the song at the end. What's it called?
+Redstar2613 Zero punctuation theme
I love that in the outro it says:
"Take a look at some of our OTHER CONTRIBUTORS."
As if to say, " Stop watching only Zero Punctuation GODDAMNIT!!"
I see your point about the Suffering if any person remembers it
Love the ending music
it's pronounced "amontiyado"
It's spanish.
"ll" is pronounced like "y"
The setup 3:33 The punchline 4:34
he raises a very good point.
when the inevitable zombie swarm arrives on my doorstep, no matter what's in my weapons cabinet, it's what's in the shampoo cabinet that matters in the end.
I never get tired of those Dead Space music jokes.
This is the video that got me in zero punctuation
So, Bioshock:Infinite video next week? You bring the yellow background I bring the tears?
"I think you need to punish me more Survival Instict, I've been a very bad boy!" LOLOLOL!!!
If your thinking of picking this game up for the zombie survival aspects then might i suggest State of Decay. Its a zombie survival download game with perma death for 360 and PC thats worth checking out if your interested in this game.
It's on The Escapist right now. If you click the link in the description, you can literally watch it right now, no need to wait.
holy shit, a zero punctuation video thats in 720p?!
I played this a bit at my brothers and we were enjoying it, but the load times were excruciating and it would crash _a lot_. It would crash on load all the time. Eventually it crashed the ps3 so hard we had to pull the power. Upon attempting to power the console back up, the HDD had corrupted and the console was unusable.
4:24 is that the turret from Halo 2?
I've missed that thing so much.
I honestly know nothing about it, so hearing there are random survivor missions is interesting, I guess you can learn something new
Halo combat evolved did make changes in the maps they reverse and added new enemies, it still felt fresh.
Bravo! (not being pissy, actually cheering you on)
Gof of War Pre-School sounds really fun, actually.
And I just saw the part of the video where bioshock is next week.
"The Amontillado!" lol
About unscripted tension: You forgot the part where if you kill the zombies in a given area before collecting objectives, it may spawns more zombies around you with all the subtlety of a cat missing a jump and knocking over a bunch of plates in the middle of the night.
Does anyone else get the reference at 1:48 with the mask of Robert Maxwell?
Love the cast of amontillado reference
yeah, that about sums it up. although, I can't seem to name a time it worked...
nice cask of amontillado reference
Buzzdash where?
I liked this game, I enjoyed it and found it fun and challenging. Even the graphics, I liked them.
You must have not seen the glitches lucky you everywhere I looked in the game the walkers spent half the time attacking a fence than me
the new GoW is about an older, dad Kratos. you owe me $50 Yahtzee
...and let's not forget his Psychonauts. One of the most fun games ever.
He didn't shit all over it. He went on about how he loved the rail gliding adding a new dimension to the combat so that it wasn't your typical FPS "guys hiding behind boxes". He loved the ending and how it all came together but was slightly confused at points due to all the reality hopping.
Basically he liked it ;)
MrOpenGamer's troll attack was sucessful o.O
This got a thumbs up because of the Cask of Amontillado reference
I think if I had just seen a live Stegosaurus eating a man and is hat, the first thought would not be: 'hmm..that Stegosaurus is not eating what it is supposed to eat!'
2:14 What is that sweet that Daryl is holding? We call them alfajor here, and he's holding half of one
So The Last Stand Aftermath is just Survival Instinct 2? In an isometric perspective?
I've seen the series and played season 1 and 2 of the game and I'll agree that it's meant to be more about the character and less about action.
I find it slightly funny that although Yahtzee got the GoW reboot wrong his young Kratos has Atreus’ hair.
And then ragnarock happened 😆
3:10 well thats a relief, thought he foorgot :D
I still actually wanna play this game sometime
I find it very funny that most of the detractors of this video are simultaneously imitating Yahtzee in their criticism. His perspective is unique. He doesn't approach things with a neutral mind, but from a negative one, and how high do you think something can rise when approached like that?
Best Poe reference ever.
Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Luigi's Mansion 2, Ride to Hell, Final Fantasy VI, Earthbound, CoD4, Painkiller, the list goes on
He's already done it. It's on the escapist website.
I would like to hear Yahtzee talk every day.
I don't like horror games, but to make a good one, have a scary villain that you can't kill (pyramid head, the alien) that will kill you as soon as it sees you (practically) and punish you for death, idk lose 5 items or whatever, then have a disturbing atmosphere, combat that is really difficult and awkward, with stealth that is a better option, and make it so you need food, water and rest. Also have others things to stealth past or fight that aren't sided with the main monster and will draw it away unknowingly.
ah thanks 4 the heads up mate!
3:52
*FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MONTRESOR!*
I take it this is the first ZP video you've seen then, because that's the ending in most, if not all videos.
I like Darryl in the series anyway he is one of the few recent media characters that had actual character growth and development we could see and track :)
I live in Texas, and I will have that barely anything is wonderful here
3:52 I don’t know why that was so funny to me
I should Google it before I graduate this year, then.
so, daryl as in merle's brother? i didnt know he got a game beyond that newest one that im not sure is even out yet. yeah, that wasnt vague
He's turning into a BANNANA!
What is the music at the end? Pls reply
always wanted to know yahtzee opinion on the suffering sereis.
He's doing it next week. He said so in the video.
zombie drying racks look scarily like prince philip o_o
Next week got it
best part of this bioshock infinites coming next week
He "reacted" to it on wednesday over on the escapists website.
This review was released in April. Let that sink in...
Survival Instinct really only works if you're a bit of a coward. "AH! single zombie passing in front of my cover!". If you attack (brave way) more zombies will be alerted and you'll die. If you continue to hide (scared way) the zombie will pass, you'll grab the essential items in that area, and successfully get back to your vehicle just to find out that there was a group of them waiting there. Damn...
Kratos is an old man, now... and he has an amazing PS4 reboot! ^_^
Deryle is heading to Atlanta. FYI.
Agreed, but I think there is one element that people forget when it comes to zombies. Zombies are horrifying when it's hordes of zombies vs a single survivor. Basically zombies are at their scariest when the protagonist is 1) human and 2) isolated. Even in NoLD there was isolation going on, it starts as one person against them, then even when she finds other survivors there is no unity between the survivors so in essence she's still alone and in the end there is only one survivor left alive.
Just being Daryl get instant badass points.
Also can you get the rest of my hat from the Stegosaurus?
