Why haven't triple A publishers tried doing something like this more often? Just finish your big game, then form a small team that can use all the assets you used to make the big one to make a lower budget one with less pressure on it.
Thing is they have been doing that. Specifically Ubisoft has attempted to do it again and again and it became less special and made about as much of an impact as a burrito fart in the grandstands of a skunk convention.
Look at Far Cry Primal and New Dawn for examples of how that can go wrong.
@@NathanCassidy721 no no. Primal was meant to be an entire game with minimum effort and creativity. And new dawn was exactly the same
@@kin-3877 I feel like Primal and New Dawn were trying the Blood Dragon approach with a different theme. Problem is they are Ubisoft games and Ubisoft is notorious for finding ONE formula and doing nothing else for 20 consecutive games.
So even if we get a Blood Dragon 2, it's still gonna be the bland formulaic Ubisoft game.
spinningninja2 because its hard to add new mechanics to existing code, wich means you can often only do reskins and tweak some values without speding a shit load of money on bug removal. So its kind of a big gamble since you have to make something that people will spend money of, but you cant use to much resources otherwise it will become to expensive and people wont buy it

My only problem with Blood Dragon is that they should have not made Far Cry 3 and spent all their time on Blood Dragon.
Then it wouldn't have been nearly as fun. Blood Dragon was fun because there was no pressure to make a AAA title.

@@MikeTheGamer77 if far cry 4 and 5 were ignored and we got a full blood dragon game, that would have been great. I found it way more fun, but to be fair i probably would have been bored of the lack of tension and the dark coloring of the whole map. Aside from the 80s references it also felt like a love letter to the first game with its syfy elements.
I liked Vaas and some NPCs like the high-off-his-ass doctor in 3

I read that they're thinking of making a sequel to this game. So maybe they'll take Yahtzee's idea of a final boss fight and we'll all have huge grins on our faces.

I actually did microwave Duke Nukem forever. It smelled like it played. like shit.
I loved Blood Dragon's new gameplay, neon colors, and parody jokes. However, I found the environment incredibly dull and bland. It really could have used a sunrise and a sunset with decent lighting instead of permanent greyish black setting.

This is an amazing game. If you have never played far cry game (like me until Blood Dragon) then this game will ease you in to the way it works, sort of. I have yet to play normal Far Cry 3 but Blood Dragon is soooooo worth it.
Normal FC3 sucks in comparison to Blood Dragon.
Then again Blood Dragon is basically the best game ever made.
I liked far cry 2 (mostly because of the malaria mechanic and the buddy mechanic) and far cry blood dragon

Blood Dragon still has my favorite tutorial ever. It mocks in-game annoying, super-hand-holdy tutorials like which would be Witcher 3's 6 hour long tutorial. It's a tutorial for babies and it's fucking hilarious. "Running is like walking. Only faster." All the while Rex is suffering with us, cursing is buddy for forcing it upon him. But, it's just long enough to stay funny and when the actual action begins a minute later, it shuts up.
(Oh, and before people comment, Yes it is 6 hours long. I timed it. The annoying part is the pop-up at the 6 hour mark was I believe one telling me how to craft potions which I had already figured out like 3 hours before. If you're going to make your control intuitive and allow us to do everything at the beginning, why are tutorializing for 6 hours. It's actually WORSE than that, I realized after like 12 hours I finally left the TUTORIAL section and entered the actual game. I just got tired of the pop-ups and turned them off. But why is there an entire map just for the tutorial section. I thought I was done after the sword tutorial, but it just kept going. But that's only the beginning of the issues I had with Witcher 3. Let's hope Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't repeat them.)

im with Yahtzee this is one of the few games i went out of my way just to collect everything and do everything its just fun. Even today i replay the game just for a laugh.

The last level of Blood Dragon should have been a rock concert like the one in L4D2 where Rex gets a laser guitar that he uses to kill the rest of Omega Force.

The reason blood dragon is basically the same as farcry3 is because initially BD was supposed to be a dlc for 3 that still had Jason Brody as the character until they decided to change it mid production.

Technically gameplay does have a few small changes, such as unlimited sprint, no fall damage, and you can hold your breath under-water for as long as you like (also: MINIGUN!!!).
...But yeah, the jet-pack was definitely a missed opportunity. A shame the Buzzer (Gyrocopter) appeared in the fourth installment and not in the third.
Growing up on the classic 80's action movies (thanks dad) this game made me laugh so hard at times, I cried...

I got this for 3 dollars on the Xbox live market. Probably one of the best games I've ever purchased for 3 bucks. Still places like EB games will go out of business eventually because DLC games are going to take over. Not to mention I'd never microwave any of my games no matter how terrible it is. I even got ET on an old atari 2600. More of a recent bad game, I've also got Sonic on the 360.
Downloading games is unfortunately the way it's going to be. It will get to the point where once we have replicators like they do in Star Trek, we won't need any stores anymore. The cool thing is that when you get the replicators you'll have the choice of having a physical or digital copy of a game, or both. So if you don't like it you can delete it and microwave it.

There is one good quality about Sonic 2006. The music is awesome. Dreams of an Absolution is one of my favorite tracks on it.
love every minute of this game for all the 80s/90s movie references and easter eggs. shame the final battle at the end is the way it is and not a bigger climatic fight but still awesome and I hope to see more of Rex Powercolt.

Looking back, Blood dragon is the best thing I've ever played that was related to another game.

The funny thing is that the first advertisement video for this game was on April 1st. That way there were more "that looks awesome" comments than "you ruined Far Cry" ones.

I like this game a lot because I can understand most all of the references to the 80's because the 80's is where everything good came out from except maybe some videogames. Also this game should be bought on sale because it is 4 or 5 missions long and the end game consists of finding a random skirmish of some soldiers and killing them. But it is fantastic for the time you play it.
