Holy Envy: A Mormon Perspective on Sikhism
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 июн 2013
- Personal views on Sikhism from several Brigham Young University-Idaho professors who traveled to The Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, India for the first time in April 2012. For many on this trip, this was their first contact with Sikhs as a people and as a religion.
From which university are these professors??
These professors are from Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho, USA.
I think it is Brigham Young University-Idaho (USA) a private, four-year university affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
What is it about the words "PERSONAL VIEWS" that you don't get?
I'm an atheist who grew up in Arizona, where there are large Sikh and Mormon populations. Truly every Sikh and every Mormon I've ever dealt with has been very kind and friendly. I genuinely like you both.
Really love Sikhi. I'm American and was raised in the conventional Christian tradition. Never really made sense though. Was an atheist, but at a certain point that just leads to cynicism and nihilism. I've always thought that everything is connected, that there's a unifying element to reality. Science says matter is energy, energy is neither created or destroyed...sounds like this God thing everyone keeps talking about. Never really found a clear representation of that though. Looked into yoga and Buddhism but they seem really complicated. Recently found Sikhi and it's like wow, that's it, so simple, so sweet, so awesome. Now I feel like I understand what Jesus and all these other religions are trying to communicate.
Ek ongkar, Satnam, Waheguru!
Just sucks I don't speak Punjabi though.
There is ONE basic astonishing difference found from the study of ALL religions.
All Prophets and Gods, other than Sikh Gurus didn’t give any importance to wrote their religious scripture books themselves.
Sikh Scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was written and compiled by Sikh Guru's themselves. and its ONLY scripture in the world that was written and compiled and checked by the prophets/Gods themselves.
Sikh Gurus in fact created a whole NEW LANGUAGE called Gurmukhi and even CREATED ALPHABETS from scratch to put SGGS divine teaching in writing themselves.
No other religious Book whether its
1. Torah, Jewish religious book was not written by Moses the Jewish prophet.
2. Bible, Christian religious book was not written by Jesus the Christian prophet.
3. Quran, Muslim religious book was not written by Muhammad the Muslim prophet.
4. Geeta, Hindu religious book was not written by Krishna the Hindu God, Ramayana was not written by Rama the Hindu God, Shiv puran and Vishnu puran are not written by Shiva and Vishnu the Hindu Gods.
5. Pali and Mahayana Sutras, Buddhist religious books were not written by Gautam Buddha the Buddhist prophet.
6. Agamas Sutras, Jainist religious books was not written by Mahavir Jain, the Jainist prophet.
These scriptures are claimed to be direct words of god in the all respective religions.
1. Why these religious books were written after the death of the prophets of respective religions by someone else?
2. Why other God or prophets didn’t wrote themselves?
3. Why didn’t they(prophets and gods) thought of it’s(writing religious books by themselves) as a vital process of preserving their own uncorrupted real teachings?
I have been to Utah where there's a big Mormon community and have seen first hand Mormons are pretty cool. They invited me for dinners, took interest in sikhism and yea were very welcoming.
Respect !
let me take this opportunity to invite everyone to Gurudwara sahib (Sikh temple)... we are very open people... but not well understood by outer world..
plz come to our temple, participate in having langar ( free meal ), which promotes equality and fights hunger..
we don't discriminate anyone in anyway possible.. for us, caste, creed, race, gender, religious belief, nationality, sexual orientation e.t.c. are irrelevant...
the only thing matters are your thoughts, words and action.
you all are welcome ( Jee aayain nu)
Sat Sri Akal
From an atheist POV I went to India for a friends wedding and wanted the all Indian experience. I got to go to the golden temple and experience this. It was an amazing and humbling experience. Hands down they truly practice what they preach and experiencing this was and enlightening experience :) the immense feeling you have walking into the area was truly the best spiritual experience I've ever had :)
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa. Waheguru ji ki Fateh.
good to see people of different faiths finding positivity in others....
mere piyare sikho tusi jithe vi jande ho ,tusi puri sikh kaum di agbai karde ho .tohada ik ik kadam bura hove ya changa hove puri sikh kaum te is da asar honda hai.
Hanji baba ji, sach keha tu c
People of all faiths should try to learn and appreciate the greatness of other faiths instead of passing sweeping generalisations based on lack of knowledge or discriminatory attitude. These people have shown their greatness in making this film.It is sad to see preachers of some faiths demonizing other faiths and everybody who doesn't carry their label!
Sikhism and Buddhism will be the saviour of mankind I think, both very noble spiritual paths both ❤️🙏🏽
DEFAULTER 👍
Sikhism is rebirth of Buddhism. However true sikhism is still undiscovered.
Just my opinion.
Jasveer Singh that’s a very valid opinion, you may be right 🙏🏽
It’s not the rebirth. Ideas are shared in them but Sikhi if you look at it deeper is different
@@idkplusmax3893 I said similar, not the same. Sikhs believe in the one god whereas Buddhists do not believe in creationism or the theistic idea of god 👍
Your video is very much appreciated. As a Sikh it motivated me to learn more about the Mormon beliefs.
Loved the way you people put your perspective and your respect and openness to understanding other religions. Good compilation.
Thank you for your kind words. I hold all Sikhs in high regard for how they give all of us an example on how to live and help others. Sat Sri Akal.
They spoke from their core value ,it means a lot to all Sikhs. As a Sikh community we don`t think we are doing extraordinary work,it is taught to us to help others is a basic duty of every Sikh.God bless all.
This is such a great effort. I love their open mindedness ironically this changes my silly ignorance of stereotypes of Mormons :) ❤❤
mine too!!!
Great observations by good people ! I wish all people could explore each others religions with a open mind like this !
I really enjoyed this. I really liked the openness and good heartedness of these Mormons, seeing the good in other religions, and particularly here what they have said about Sikhs and their religion.
I am a Sikh and my parents told me And suggested:........
Work hard and eat together
Help poor people AND LOVE EVERYONE
And BELIEVE IN GOD
THEN WE CAN LIVE PEACE FULLY AND HAPPY
As a Christian I am grateful for the high standards that my Sikh brothers and sisters live. We all need to live a higher standard like your parents taught you. Sat Sri Akal.

Love to hear one gentleman said meeting and learn about Sikhism made him good Christian. It is great
Sikh means learning this world best teaching. We are all students, we have come to learn everything in this world. This world is teaching us something Our body is made of clay. Only one soul who does not die should go back to her home. That's why human beings have to become good. This world is a magic city. We have got a body that can match our soul with that Lord. This world is not our home. God made a gam in which we left all of us. If we play good games then win will win if we play bad game.
A very popular Sikh saying ‘If you don’t see God in everyone, you don’t see God at all’.
Guru Gobind Singh’s message to the world was…. ‘See the whole human race as one’.

They introduced new script , not language.
Through service you will find the almighty. The feeling you get is priceless. The story of the British trying auction harmandir saihab speaks volumes.
Thank u 4 ths Amazing documentary / video .
Sikhs are very kind, charitable people. Sikhs live wholesome lives in the service of others. They are people of high integrity. They deserve our highest respect, gratitude and admiration.Sikhs are not Muslims. They are Indians.
What all of the adherents of Abrahamic religions cannot grasp is that the adherents of dharmic religions like Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, Buddhism is that their connections with God is experiential rather than based on belief. They are all like Christs rather than like believer. They are seekers, not believers.
The great flaw the the adherents of the Abrahamic religions is they all believe they alone have the Truth. The dharmic adherents will never make such a claim that they alone have the Truth but rather that each religion is a path to the Truth, thus they proclaim all religions are true. The Abrahamic view has and still is causing much divisions in the world resulting into wars and conquerings of nations, whereas in the dharmic religions peace within and peace with neighbors is the main goal as their view is that we are all One not only with each other as human beings but with everything in the Cosmos.
Amazing...
Dhan guru Nanak dev ji
Awesome.....
If there was one religion I’d like to spread all over the world it would be Sikhism. And I’m an atheist.
For what they know, they are doing well
Thank you for you comment. I wish more people practiced their religion like the Sikhs do. The world would be a better place. Sat Sri Akal.
Excellent video. Very well presented 🙏
Awesome efforts.....
And to add lil more there is a real experience ... plz read the Guru Granth Sahib ji
I really appreciate the way you guys do your research
All of sikh .sikh means learning we are all student learnig god way
Thanks for uploading, always interested to know opinion of others in Sikhism. Full mark
The brothers and sisters who have participated in this video must also know the power of Gurbani. (Sikh's Holy Scriptures, laid down in the Holy book called Shri Guru Granth Sahib). Listening to these scriptures alone have cured diseases like Cancer, Aids, Blindness etc.of many patients, in support I ask them to see videos on youtube like "True story of cancer patient Vasu Bhardwaj", "Gurbani de Kautak", "Gurbani Healing diseases". etc. there are many recorded cases with medical proofs and mind you, no false propaganda.
I'm Sikh and Gurbani never mentions curing physical disabilities or diseases, however it has indeed cured depression and the Guru's themselves were able to provide a medical aid years beyond their time
agree jaskaran gill...
@@jaskarangill1762 gurbani says everyday "sarab rog ka aukhad naam" the name implies recitation of God's name cures all diseases
really beautiful, God creates the positivity in believers no matter where you are.
Thanks for producing this! I have felt very similar feelings in getting to know my family that are Sikh (minus the terrorist stuff!)
Stephan Goldsmith Sikhs have nothing to do with terrorism!!!!!
minus the Lockerbie, Scotland stuff--This video was okay
@@sidname9538 Lockerbie…. You are mistaking Sikhs for Muslims.
The terrorist label was given to Sikhs by the Indian government to simply keep them suppressed.
15:25 Very rightly said.
met mormons and christianity. feel tired and drained. the house if god is like home from home in sikism
Thanks for posting we need more openness and understanding
A very positive video ! THUMBS UP
🙏SatnaamSreeWaheguruji🙏
God dwells in every heart, for sikhism men and women is equal, honest living, share with needy, brotherhood, love all mankind, meditate on the ONE SUPREME LORD, women must dress modestly, no killing of sentient beings, that why we serve vegetarian food in sikh temple, and also believe in KARMA,which is you sow shall reap, all religion is good ,etc.
Sat Sri Akal
Good knowledge.
Salute to Sikhs
Waheguruji.
God is great.
😍😍
we dont convert, coming into sikhi is a persons own personal choice.. we are not about numbers.. this is a personal inner journey of an individual. Those who convert and desire numbers in a religion are lost in a false race.
Wonder if they noticed a lot of similarities Woman sit on one side and men on the other side, wearing something upon your head--removing the shoes washing feet...............................About 46 years ago when entering an LDS temple shoe were removed at the front door (for example)
Thank you so much bc. Indian Government had declared Sikhs as terrorist to world.Waheguru should give all the happiness...

Uncut hair. 3rd make your mind and soul pure by taking good deeds (khalsa) way of life work hard but honestly. watever they said is only visual but once they spend time in voluntary service or sewa than they can experience it by getting involved in service to sangat/community/public. hence service n reciting of hymns in community is true way to get to god.
Nice

Raj kare ga Khalsa, Khalsa akalpurkh ki fouj.
Sikhism is all about sharing, helping , kindness and believing that God is in everybody!Feeding the needy is main focus too.Every Gurudwara ( Sikh temple) has free kitchen to feed people! You guys should visit some Sikh temple in US
The reason those Sikhs didn't have any missionary tags is because there are no missionary Sikhs . They are happy to educate people about their religion but are not looking to convert you or anything .
oh the guilt of blasphemy, i only did it because it was good!
2:20 NO ITS NOT.
Hey said that he thought of it as that before
the video should be re-named- how to copy sikhs and say we did it,, -- we are mormons-- then point the finger back at the sikhs and tell them they are outdated
Please read a book titled 'Spirit Born People by Prof Puran Singh' to understand Sikhism. Prof Puran Singh was a Japan educated scientist Sikh. Sikhism is almost 180 degree away from the Hinduism.
