@@ZachBrown-n7t you need to know Egyptian to translate Egyptian ahahaha. Some young men counterfeited and brought Joseph Smith some tablets that they are on record saying they made as a hoax. He "translated" them into what he called The Book of Abraham. However once we discovered the Rosetta Stone and had a concrete way to translate Egyptian yeah turns out that's just random bits from the book of the dead the boys had copied from a museum
@@gwynethdeleon9291 Hardly an argument Gwyneth. Is that only defense? Are you aware that in the history of the Mormon church, that Moroni told Joseph to come back the next year before he could get the golden plates? Are you aware that Moroni told him to bring his oldest brother Alvin with him? How is it that Moroni asked that of Joseph and Alvin died shortly thereafter? That's right...this is recorded by Mormon historians Gwyneth. I would urge you to study up a bit more. Quit parroting what you've heard from other Mormons without doing your own due diligence and research. You're smarter than that Gwyneth.
The narrative of the top hat was not taught by the church until recently. It only appeared in the gospel topics essays after 2013. Before that we were taught JS translated directly from the plates to Harris, Cowdery or Emma Smith using the urim and thummim. So the narrative has changed from what was taught before. If you look at the Ensign cover for Feb. 2001 you will clearly see the old method of translation.
Scott brother, I disagree a wee. In September, 1974, the Church published a vignette article in the Children’s magazine _Friend,_ in which Joseph Smith’s use of a seer stone was described. There is nothing really noteworthy about the Prophet using a method to block out ambient light. And the fact that church art chose not to emphasize it means nothing. Further, church art does not equate to “what the church teaches” any more than the art in the Sistine Chapel defined Catholic doctrine. Art means to inspire the heart, not necessarily to teach trivia. And the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has not endeavored to _conceal_ it’s history. Rather, it has been a matter of _emphasis,_ and teaching things that matter most.
@@Glen.Danielsen i understand that once in 1974, they mentioned the seer stones. But what troubles myself and many people, is that, why did they EVER teach, and publish ANYTHING other than that? Why was there so many pictures, and teachings, published by the church, depicting a translation method that NEVER HAPPENED. Why were we EVER taught anything other than the truth?
@@mikkifrompreston Good chap of flap: using a method _to block out light_ was never an issue of embarrassment, and for that matter, wasn’t important. The dread is in your head. The Church was never being evasive or concealing about translation tools-it’s a big _so what._ It’s really none of our business which translation method the Lord chose to bring about his Word anyway. With Moses, he used a burning bush that did not consume. What if he gave Joseph Smith an ignited tumbleweed? What if a talking horse? Brother, the bother is just a boogeyman. @@Glen.Danielsen I never said the seer stone method to "block out light" as an "issue of embarrassment". What im asking, is WHY did they teach for so many years that the translation process was done *in a completely different way* than using seer stones in a hat? You claim the church was never evasive or concealing of translation tools, but why *did they EVER teach and publish historically incorrect methods* in which Joseph Smiths translation the plates?
It’s also interesting to note that there are sections of the Book of Mormon where Isaiah is quoted but said quotations don’t match up with the Bible. They do however match perfectly with the translation of Isaiah from the Dead Sea Scrolls which wouldn’t be found until 90 years after Joseph Smith’s death.
The Book of Mormon may not match the King James Version of Isaiah exactly, but other versions of Isaiah were available to Joseph Smith. Other similarities to the Dead Sea scrolls, such as adding the word “and”, are easily attributed to the kinds of things one might inadvertently add or rephrase while quoting from memory with his head in a hat.
@@CarlosRodriguez-hb3vq but he wasn't quoting from memory? Wasn't he translating the direct words of the prophets of the book of mormom through the power of God?
Also debunked. The BOM is written in 16th century English (or was prior to the thousands of edits). How 16th century English ended up in a so-called ancient text is a different matter... The scrolls, of which fragments remain...ummm...are those in English? That's the thing when a pro-LDS "historian" gets to put their own spin on a "translation". Besides...the BOM was supposedly translated from a non-existent form of Egyptian. Joseph Smith Jr. knew the Bible well, and was a great story teller. He did not translate a fictitious language from metal props, used to fool "witnesses".
Actually, the part "translated" from April to June of 1829 would have required about 3 pages to be transcribed daily, that is if it can be assumed that each page in the 1830 edition of The Book of Mormon corresponds to a manuscript page from the original dictation. Doctrine and Covenants 10:41 is clear that everything after the reign of King Benjamin was retained by Joseph Smith and was not a part of the lost 116 pages. That number of pages per day is even further reduced if one assumes that Ether and Moroni were a part of what was retained, though I believe they were added as after thoughts to make the text more complete and true to its purpose of being a "restoration" of the beliefs of Christ's original teachings and the original practices of his followers. Obviously I am not a Mormon, but I would also like to point out that this video has nothing to do with evidence of the Book of Mormon being an actual translation. It just outlines the process of how the Book of Mormon was transcribed and printed, and that's it. Actual evidence would consist of linguistic evidence such as Book of Mormon names containing elements of indigenous American words and names in pre-Columbian times, quotes being found in the original language and having a matching translation, etc. Not trying to be an anti-Mormon, but this video fails in what it is trying to present.
I can see that youve read the book of mormon.....i exhort you to read it with an open heart and after that do what Moroni said...Ask God with A Sincere Heart and Contrite Spirit if all that youve red is true... if not then feel free to say everything you want to say..... i have done my part in delivering the Gospel and spotless at the last day.....Remember my name: Oliver Osma......

Here's a quick look at the testimony of the 'three witnesses' to the book of Mormon. Assuming that these three men actually saw, handled, and examined metallic plates with 'writing' on them, they could have no possible way of knowing the meaning (if any), of anything inscribed on them as they were, according to Joseph Smith, 'reformed Egyptian', a language unknown both then and now. Also, they would had no way of knowing if they were fake or real, or if Joseph Smith actually found them, or when or where. Their testimony was simply that they believed what Joseph Smith told them, nothing more and nothing less. This belief and trust in Joseph Smith's testimony converted them into becoming his earliest followers. This same trust in the teachings writings and practices of this one man, Joseph Smith, remains as the heart and foundation of the Mormon faith. Kind regards to all, especially dear Mormon folk.
In the 80s they would teach you Latin and Egyptian Sand Script and a paragraph or two about Ancient Astronauts. It was the tale end of actual racism. Where you can smack your wife and beat your kid at the Commissary and blame it on alcoholism. We can set that part aside that god led him too the plates and they killed him because he wouldn’t say where he found them because gold is money. The guy transcribed the text with stones and was able to breathe life into a dead language for everyone. The Vatican The Smithsonian and Egyptian Government are against findings that contradicts their beliefs. Withholding knowledge is power only know we have internet. This is not the end of times only end of era.
Geoff Noyes, everything you've said is correct, except while the three witnesses were busy seeing the plates, they were also standing in the presence of an angel, which is also part of their testimonies. So it's undeniably true that no one could understand a single word of "reformed egyptian" (not even Joseph Smith.) It's also undeniably true that it would be difficult to disbelieve when Joseph is being backed-up by an angel.
@@admiralwasteland1687 you know they translated the scroll and found nothing in comparison to what was written by Joseph smith, and this even includes members of the Mormon Church..
The scroll and the BoM are two separate things. The Book of Mormon was on gold plates, while the Pearl of Great Price was on scrolls. The scroll that contained the PoGP was destroyed in a fire ( if I remember right). But it doesn't matter if you have no faith. Could God have anyone do anything He wanted? Could he choose a farm boy with little education to bring forth a book as wonderful as the BoM? If you agree He could, then the BoM could be true. If you limit God and disagree, then you have no faith. As a member of thr Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I believe God can do whatever He wants to do. God has no limits in my eyes.
I used to be LDS but I lost my membership because of my own sins and rebellion. Before this I had a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon. I continue to this day, some 40 years later, want to believe it to be true. My question in regards to the translation is this, and this is from a lack of understanding: How was it a translation when Joseph didn't even use the gold plates of the book, but received the translation from the seer stones or the Urim and Thumim? Isn't a translation taken line by line as one goes along the manuscript? What I'm viewing from LDS RUclips videos is that the words appeared to him in the hat with the use of the seer stones or the interpretors supplied with the plates by Moroni. It's very confusing. I do know this though. No one in their right mind would allow themselves, their family and friends to go through the persecution that the Prophet went through if it had not been from God. I just don't believe they would have endured the persecution over a lie. Thanks for any replies of clarification and help in this.
It's confusing because they used to tell us it was translated with the urim and thummim, not in a hat. Whitstanding persecution isnt evidence of God. Otherwise we should look yo the most persecuted to find God. Suicide bombers go through persecution and more suffering than Joseph Smith in the name of God. It doesn't necessarily make their church true
You’re confusing the churches version of history with the actual historical record. Joseph smith wasn’t persecuted, he was arrested and convicted multiple times for scamming people. He actually benefited in many ways such as living in the mansion built by the church, sleeping with many of his followers wives and definitely benefited financially such as the trust money he stole from his adopted daughters .. who he also married and slept with. Brigham young died a millionaire after a using the churches tithe money interest free whenever he wanted
The text went from one language (Reformed Egyptian) to another (English), hence the use of the term "translation", even though Joseph Smith wasn't looking at the plates for all or part of it, and, as far as we know, didn't know how to read Reformed Egyptian. It is an atypical type of translation, for sure, but translation still seems like the most suitable word for the action, given our limited vocabulary.
Decade before i knew the church i asked God and taught me of the things i later found that it is The Church of Jesus Christ of Later day Saints. Who am i to doubt God answer to my prayers. I will treasure this knowledge i knew that God lives and answer prayers.
It's made up bro. American Indians do not have semitic markers in their DNA. Therefore cannot be a lost tribe of Israel. It's bull! All of it. Read what Jesus said and you will be OK. Bible Jesus..
I knew about the hat 40+ years ago. Never thought it was any stranger than what is found in the Bible. I can understand why the church minimized the hat to avoid confusion.
@@gtf5392 the hat is no more mysterious than seer stones (Urim and Thummim) which High Priests used, or objects such as the rod of Aaron, a brass serpent, and the ark of the covenant. We read that Jesus later healed a blind man by applying spittle to the man’s eyes. What about Moses’ staff turning into a serpent? The Bible is full of things a person could see as unreal, nonsense or superstitious. Did Elijah really call down fire from heaven to kill 450 Priests of Baal? What people should focus on are the doctrines of the church over how bizarre the acquisition. Personally, I don’t understand how God works? But His ways are not ours and apparently Joseph Smith needed darkness to have his visions. A hat seemed most feasible to accomplish this. The church minimizes the hat because the revelation is more important.
Not "to avoid confusion". Obviously, to avoid embarrassment. Why would telling the truth and facts in an honest way be "confusing"? Anyone who is honest with themself can immediately see that the seer stone (peepstone) thing is basically the equivalent of crystal ball gazing. (And it's no coincidence that Joseph Smith called himself "Gazelam" (as a code name) in some revelations. And also no coincidence that there is a Book of Mormon character who uses a seer stone and is also called "Gazelem".) Not being "any stranger than what is found in the Bible" is not any kind of help. The Bible is full of obvious nonsense. (Just ask the whale who burped out Jonah after 3 days...of Jonah being under water...without oxygen...being consumed by whale digestive juices. Miracle? Or humongous fish story?

In the July/August 2018 edition of "Biblical Archaeology Review" on page 33, is an article "Egyptian Papyrus Sheds New Light on Jewish History." The author is Karel van der Toorn. The article is about a papyrus roll discovered in the late 19th century at Luxor (ancient Thebes). It took more than 120 years to decipher the text. It was discovered that Egyptian Demotic Script had been used to write Aramaic text! The translation turned out to be three Israelite psalms written about 400BC. This is an example of "Reformed Egyptian" used by Israelites and discovered by non-Mormons!!
Aramaic is not reformed Egyptian, it's barely even reformed Hebrew which bares almost no similarities to Egyptian, and came about by using the Hebrew alphabet to write a foreign/Syrian language.

Here are some details of Joseph Smith Jr.'s criminal history: Smith was born in Vermont in 1805, and his family moved to New York in 1817. At age 20, Smith --- described in court records as "Joseph the glasslooker" --- faced his first criminal charge, a misdemeanor count of being a "disorderly person". In 1830, he faced the same charge. He left New York for Ohio. >>> Disorderly person, March 1826 > This account has been corroborated by later discoveries, such as Justice Neely's bill of costs which refers to Joseph Smith as "The Glass Looker," (i.e. a diviner), discovered in 1971 by Wesley P. Walters. The total costs exactly matched the amount in Fraser's Magazine. However, other contradictory accounts of the trial have also been published which brings the authenticity of the accounts into question. In 1838, Joseph Smith stated that he had, in fact, worked for Josiah Stowell but Smith avoided mentioning the court hearing and downplayed his role by claiming to be a mere bystander. Smith said that Stowell had heard of a lost Spanish silver mine near Harmony, Pennsylvania, and wanted to find it. According to Smith, Stowell "took me, with the rest of his hands, to dig for the silver mine, at which I continued to work for nearly a month, without success in our undertaking, and finally I prevailed with the old gentleman to cease digging after it. Hence arose the very prevalent story of my having been a money-digger." ruclips.net/video/gXsoCAln5fk/видео.html >>> Disorderly person, June 1830 > In Ohio (1831-38) > Illegal banking, February 1837 > Conspiracy to murder Newell, June 1837 >> In Missouri (1838-39) > Threats to Judge Adam Black, August 1838
All those accusations and not a single conviction. Hmmmm. It's curious to me that most of the prophets throughout history were persecuted, falsely imprisoned, and, in many cases, murdered. Joseph Smith was robbed, beaten, tarred and feathered, poisoned, falsely imprisoned multiple times and killed by a mob organized by ex-Mormons. Jesus Christ himself was betrayed, falsely imprisoned, beaten, tortured and crucified. Do you see the parallels?

I hope you’ve had “fun” with your task. Seems like a lot of effort, and all for what?? Just thought I’d let you know that in this very same church in its Primary meetings for children, when I was a child, I received unmistaken witness several times that Jesus is the Christ, the promised Messiah, and that He is our Savior, and that He is truly my friend, and that He truly loves me, and everyone. The Holy Spirit was there to testify to my little heart of profound truth, and this truth was substantiated by the teachings from my Primary teachers, plus in all the wonderful hymns we would sing, that were lovingly written specifically to testify to children’s hearts of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I would not ever trade these precious experiences! Yet, you mock Joseph Smith, and never bother reading the Book of Mormon. Maybe, if you read it with real intent, with a humble, teachable, open heart, then you too, would know of its truth. I sincerely hope you do, for your sake!
If Joseph Smith had IN HIS POSSESSION the golden plates, why didn’t he directly translate off of them ? Instead he looked into a hat or spectacles and magically saw words appear from a book that would’ve been near him..
@One God One Christ there is nothing like the Quran either prior to its revelation or after it’s revelation. The quran was revealed orally and that’s the first reference the actual writing is the second reference. Islam is the only true monotheistic faith on earth and it calls people to worshipping one God. Not three like modern Christianity. One God. One messages. All the prophets throughout the bible called people to worshipping one God. Not 3. The biggest trick the devil payed was getting people to worship the creation and not the creator. La ilaha illAllah Muhammadan rasool Allah. Peace.
@One God One Christ the Quran was sent from the same God of Abraham, Moses, Noah, Solomon, David, Jesus and Mohammed peace be upon them all. Of course it will share similarities because God sent it! There is nothing like the Quran, from its recitation to its depth and knowledge there is nothing on earth like it. The bible that Christian’s follow is made by man and has been re-written over and over again. 24000 manuscripts and not one of them are identical, all second hand accounts, Anonymous authors. well answer these questions If the gold plates never existed, how did Joseph get numerous witnesses to stand by their stories until their dying day, even when some of them later became angry with Joseph and left the Church? How could Joseph have known about ancient cement technology in the first century B.C. in Mesoamerica? How could Joseph Smith make up dozens of names in the Book of Mormon that would later be shown to be authentic ancient Semitic names? Where did Joseph Smith get the idea of ancient scriptures written on metal plates? How did Joseph Smith know about ancient practices regarding preservations of sacred texts? Why do other ancient documents support the Book of Mormon's idea that the ancient Joseph prophesied of Moses and Aaron? If there was no apostasy in the Church of Jesus Christ, then what happened to prophets? If Joseph Smith just made up the idea of vicarious baptism for the dead, why do numerous ancient documents validate the LDS claim that this was an authentic early Christian practice? At a time when all Christian churches taught that temples were no longer needed, how did Joseph so effectively restore the ancient temple concept on his own? What other church better corresponds with early Christianity in terms of teaching the true relationship between faith, grace, and works? Why do the earliest Christian writings sound much closer to LDS theology than they to modern "mainstream" Christianity? If it's unchristian, unbiblical, and evil to believe that humans have divine potential, why do many Biblical and early Christian sources speak of the humans becoming "gods"? If the Bible is infallible, by whose authority were the various books of the Bible selected in an infallible manner? By whose authority were the infallible translations made and approved? Who authorized the changes in the ritual of baptism that occurred since the New Testament Church? And who in your church has true authority from God to perform baptisms? If the Book of Abraham is a fraud, then how do you account for the details in the text that would later be given extensive support by numerous ancient documents that were not available to Joseph Smith?

One of Joseph Smith's fellow believers said he had witnessed the golden plates. When cross-examined he said he only saw the plates "with the eyes of faith". What gets me is Joseph Smith once visited a fairground. And at the fairground there was an Egyptian mummy for sale. He bought the mummy. And he discovered the writings of Abraham on the inside of the Mummy's bandages. This is unbelievably far-fetched.

Here's a quote by Lucy Mack Smith, Joseph's mother: "During our evening conversations, Joseph would occasionally give us some of the most amusing recitals that could be imagined. He would describe the ancient inhabitants of this continent, their dress, mode of travelings, and the animals upon which they rode; their cities, their buildings, with every particular; their mode of warfare; and also their religious worship. This he would do with as much ease, seemingly, as if he had spent his whole life among them." She was referring to the years leading up to Smith's translation. So no, obviously Joseph didn't make anything up "on the fly" as you said. He was composing it in his head for years before. You guys have no imagination.

You choose deliberate ignorance and just pretend that the critics are making up wild stories. Stylometric wordprint analysis concludes that Joseph was not the author of the text, and that Nephi, Alma, Mosiah and other books were written by separate individuals and have been compared with the writing of all the people close to Joseph. As a result new research from the Joseph Smith Papers Project we now know that none of the 7 eyewitnesses ever wrote about seeing a curtain or sheet blocking Joseph from the view of others. These eyewitnesses wrote that while Joseph translated, the plates were always wrapped in a cloth, as he was not allowed to show the plates at that time. They wrote that Joseph saw the Egyptian characters on the Seer Stones (Urim & Thummin) with the romanized characters appearing below them.
There were only two certain eyewitnesses to the translation process (Joseph and Oliver) and they consistently stated in writing that the translation came from the plates "by means of the Urim & Thummim" (which is the name of the best recent book on the subject). All other accounts are late, contradictory and unreliable.

This book is true. I say that with real intent. With all the energy in my heart soul and mind.. Everything i am. The Book of Mormon is true. 💘
The documented history said he was shown the plates but wasn’t allowed to take them. This gives him years to research and develop ideas. His mom even said that every night for years he would explain the history of these people like he had met them before. Before he even read the golden plates. This is supposedly because an angel told him but considering many of the events in the Book of Mormon were extremely similar to what was going on in Joseph’s day (including the fact that the entire book is based off of the mound builders myth from that time that’s super racist but also every where in writings of that time) it is clear he did orally dictate but he definitely had time to prepare. And why would god be able to make the plates suddenly disappear when it was convenient so Joseph couldn’t translate? But god couldn’t make them disappear when people were trying to steal them? Or why didn’t Joseph or god use divine power to find the lost pages? And how could Lucy Harris possibly change anything about the lost pages when she couldn’t replicate his handwriting or change the spacing between words? Joseph smith couldn’t retranslate because he made it all up himself and he was afraid Lucy would prove him as a fraud. The Book of Mormon is only so miraculous because you’re told to believe that. Joseph smith was a great con man and you even bring that up when referencing his treasure digging days. How could anyone be this blind even with deep Mormon indoctrination?
Those gold plates probably weighed about 75lbs. And he bragged about carrying them for miles while fighitng off multiple men at the same time. Yeah, no ....Smith was a pervert, con man and scam artist. Anyone who belongs to LDS is a brainwashed sheep with no ability to think critically for themselves.
And here we go into the evil genius theory. This doesn't hold up to scrutiny, because he was not known as an intelligent nor well-spoken person. Newspapers all called him a "dullard" or "block-headed" at the time. His own journals show his inability to write coherently. And if you are of the Christian persuasion, you should know that God's wisdom is not our own.
If Joseph smith was wrong about the translation of the Egyptian burial papyrus, don’t you think he was probably wrong about the golden plates? Or maybe even lying about their existence?
You should know that much papyrus Joseph translated the Book of Abraham from, or maybe even all of it, was likely destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Also, the surviving papyrus, which does not contain Book of Abraham text, does not account for eyewitness evidence of the original papyrus being a long scroll before the fire happened. Consider that for a time.

I’ll give it up to the LDS Church, even though we disagree with our interpretation of the scriptures, no one can tell an LDS person that they don’t keep up with their scriptures
Their beliefs are actually very contradictory to what Christians believe, and what God says about Himself. They believe: - Lucifer and Jesus are brothers. - Jesus created Lucifer. John 1:1-3 - they believe that we can become gods one day. - God says multiple times in Isaiah 40-46 that there is no god before Him nor after Him (Isaiah 45:5) and He knows no other god, no not one. Isaiah 44:8 - that there was a great Apostasy (falling away) of God’s real and true church. That’s why Joseph Smith is idolized because in his first vision, he believes that God and Jesus (2 separate beings, not one, so also don’t believe in the Trinity) said to him that all the churches were an abomination and false and he was to restore the church. - however, this is again contradictory to God’s Word where Jesus says in Matthew 16:17-19 “On this rock I will build my Church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it.” And where Jesus said “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my word will never pass away.” Matthew 24:35

He was the perfect sacrifice for all who would and will believe in Him. That’s why we are saved by grace, through faith, not of ourselves, it is Gods gift to us, not by works so no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 which exactly contradicts 2 Nephi 25:23 which says we are saved by grace /after/ all we can do. So our works come first, then God’a grace come second… which is not what God’s Word says, nor does He want for us. He is not impressed by our works. Our works do not make us righteous which is what Isaiah 64:6 is talking about - our righteousness, our works, our striving is like filthy rags to the the Lord. But what is the point you’re trying to make?
He could have memorized the book and Doctor Who has a lot of the complex plot points that "prove" this wasn't made up. Its intercity isn't too bizzar as he had 4 years to think of this and had the actual time to do all these claims skeptics make. Along with the fact that he had others who fell out of the church witness god and Jesus Christ. Which if I saw the creator of all and knew the religion which was true I would not reject the church anymore and yet... They did
Those who left the church never rejected it or said it was false, but left because of personal reasons. For example, Martin Harris who lost the 116 and felt guilty, or Ezra Booth whos expectations of Zion were different, or Emma Smith who left because she felt uncomfortable with polygamy (and I can empathize). But they never rejected the truth and what they saw
@@twistedpeanuts6958 No one openly retracted their testimony but I would argue that leaving and joining another church kind of implies they no longer believed, plus some of them even went with James Strang, and believed everything he said before it was revealed that it was a lie.
@@Valeriamtzp It's only fairly recently in my own Mormon studies that I have begun to learn about James Strang. Strangites may truly be the most fascinating alternative sect to have arisen in opposition to the prevailing Brighamites within Mormonism, yet few seem to know anything about this chapter of religious history. A story of Strang's life would make an interesting movie or television series.
For thinking people who take the time to seriously study Joseph Smith (not just the material that Mormons put out) they will find Mormonism fake. But believing that Jesus will get them into the next life, is also an illusion.
The South Park episode explains this better. Still don’t see any evidence it is a translation since he didn’t look at the book. The translation of the Book of Abraham was not what the hieroglyphics said. No reason that he would be translating differently for the Book of Mormon.
The one book that speaks with the most authority against the LDS/Mormon church and it's founder Joseph Smith is the Book of Mormon itself. The fact that the BOM exists is Mormonism's testimony that the Holy Bible is insufficient, (another testimony is required to back up the first, or that the Bible has been corrupt and had vital information and truth removed from it). Kind regards to all.
So what about the apocrypha I guess that book was the bibles book of Mormon a false book that Christians disavowed. but its really weird JESUS quotes from the apocrypha nearly verbatim. hrmmm kind of like the book of Mormon quoting the bible verbatim. huh parallels that Christians don't know.
Hi Geoff, I don't have strong opposition what you said about the Bible, but neither do I see it's relevance to your main argument that the BOM is the strongest evidence against it's translator. Whether the Bible is insufficient or not has little to do with whether or not Joseph translated the BOM.
I recently finished the Book of Mormon again this year. But this time I was studying it more thoroughly. I read and marked a lot of fascinating things that I never saw before. I was nearing the end when I followed a footnote that led me to John 10:20-21 (Think of Joseph Smith in these verses.) "And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him? Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?" The "EYES OF THE BLIND." Does the Book of Mormon open one's eyes? Yes! Plainly. I was not expecting the Bible to tell me the Book of Mormon was true. So now I'm in the middle of reading the New Testament and may I add, I'm surprised on how Mormon this book is!
John 10:20,21 is all about Jesus and has nothing to do with testing religious books to determine truthfulness. The Jews thought Christ was under the influence of a demon spirit. In ancient times it was believed that people afflicted with severe diseases (bodily or mentally) were under the power of a demon. This included things like paralysis, blindness, deafness, epilepsy, etc. There were others who reasoned that it didn't make sense for sight to be given to the blind by a demoniac. The Hebrew word ivver could refer to blindness - physical or mental. Personally I believe this verse to be clearly dealing with the physical ailment, however it could apply to a clearing of the mind as well. Either way, these verses have absolutely nothing to do with determining which religious leader or "holy book" to follow. I'm sure there are plenty of people who have had their eyes opened from reading The Quran, The Vedas, Pali Canon, etc. As for religious leaders, they are a dime a dozen. The Bible does tell us this: "test all things, hold fast to what is good." So we are to TEST the Book of Mormon for truthfulness. When the BOM is put to the test it fails. For example, Smith claimed the BOM to be translated from ancient plates. It's recorded that he used the Urim & Thummim and also seer stones and a hat as translation aides. When you read about the process it couldn't really be considered a "translation" so much as dictation. The words appeared to Smith (converted from reformed Egyptian to English), he called them out to a scribe, they wrote them down. So this is very much a literal "translation" process in which there would be little to no room for human influence (aside from some misunderstood or misspelled words by the scribe). But when you STUDY the Book of Mormon what you will find in many cases is the appearance of 1769 King James Version translation errors. Of course it's a violation of common sense to think that 17th century translation mistakes would appear in a supposed ancient document. The appearance of these translation mistakes show that Smith was not really translating from an ancient source and that the witnesses to the translation process were not being honest. The more you study the appearance of those translation mistakes and the development of the English language in Bible versions, the more you will see where Smith really got the words for much of the BOM from. See my other posts for more information. Don't fall back on feelings... put the Book of Mormon to the test and trust the facts.
Kolby Brown, Keep going through the Bible and you're in for a big surprise. I did the same only to find other doctrines reject up to 20% of scriptures in the Bible. John 10:16 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. (Who are the other sheep?) John 20:17 17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. John 20:29 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. (The Americas had not yet seen Christ) 3 Nephi 11:8-10 8 And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them; and the eyes of the whole multitude were turned upon him, and they durst not open their mouths, even one to another, and wist not what it meant, for they thought it was an angel that had appeared unto them. 9 And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying: 10 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. The Book of Mormon and Bible testify each other as true for those who have ears and want to understand rather than want to be correct. Notice in John 20:17 Christ says "to my God", since Christ is God according to the Trinity, the Trinity claims God's got a God. Christ says "my God" in lots of scriptures, the Trinity opposes its very self proving it's doctrine of man. You know they all believe there's no true prophets nor ever will be again, Revelation 11 will shock you!
What really kills me is that the church has and always will face persecution. I'm willing to bet alot of the slanderous comments are coming from other Christian's. It's funny how that works out, it was religious people who put christ on the cross. Just a thought.

Oliver Cowdrey and others said the Book of Mormon was translated by using the Urim and Thummim. Not the seer's stone. They ought to know they were there.
@@krissander1 Huh? Which stone in hat? The LDS church has spoken of the breastplate, the urim and thummim, and the seer's stone from the beginning of the church in 1830. Where have you been?
When I first encountered Mormon missionaries over 40 years ago, the emphasis was all on the gold plates, and how Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon from these. There was no mention of hats and seer stones. Obviously, when I asked about the language on the plates and what happened to them, the answers I received were clearly suspicious. Interestingly, there is now so much about Smith putting his face into a hat and reading from the seer stones, that the golden plates have become almost incidental to the story. Of course, the plates are still necessary to the narrative, otherwise it would be claimed that an ancient book was simply recreated (in fairly ancient english) by psychic means. The story of the plates introduce a physical artefact on which the book was supposedly inscribed in an unknown language. This lends the story some provenance, or would if the plates still existed. Unfortunately they do not, so little about them can ever be confirmed. Naturally Mormons will claim that three others attested to seeing them, but what does this really prove? Four men lied about their existence, which is what you would expect. Of course, we are told that the others did not recant their story when later falling out with Smith. Not that this proves much, since they would have to declare that they were liars and perpetrated a hoax. Even then, all three of them would have needed to state that, as one individual saying so would have seemed like spite. All those years ago I thought the story of the Book of Mormon sounded like it had been pulled out of a hat, and now the LDS Church actually seems to agree. However, in the USA you can turn many forms of christianity into a business, and the Mormon Church, or whatever is now called, is rich beyond the wildest dreams of Joseph Smith.
You know that the church has a lay ministry, right? Only general authorities are paid, because they are called full-time. You might not believe the teachings, but it’s a far leap to suggest the current leaders of the Church are trying to get rich off of lies.
I have a theory... Joseph put his "seer" stone in the hat and then his face only to keep the Urim and Thummin concealed from view (they were already in the hat.) He did this because at thar particular time he had been forbidden to show any items of antiquity to anyone on pain of death. The Lord was fully aware of Joseph's little pretense (see D&C 5:4) This would explain so many things. Joseph Smith wrote: , "no man knows my history" and apparently that included Emma.
It would be nice if someone could locate the stone box on the hill where the plates had been buried. I've read that many people have searched for it, but nothing has been found. They say we have to believe by faith as part of our mortal test.
There is no logical reason why having faith would be superior to having certain knowledge. It's just an assertion made by scoundrels, con-artists, scammers and impostors when confronted by people demanding more evidence to support their bizarre claims. There is no moral obligation to have faith in anything. People have misplaced faith in bad things all the time. Do they get brownie points just for having faith? Faith is a cognitive act of desperation in circumstances where it feels like a decision should be made, but there is not enough information to know what the correct decision is. Nobody gets extra points just for "having faith".
Where is the evidence tho? The book of Mormon quotes 478 verses of the kings james Bible. In addition Oliver was part of a different church that used a book called The Pilgrim’s Progress which he was familiar with before converting into mormonism and helping with the "translation" this book has many parallels with the book of Mormon. Can you please talk about these things. I feel these are facts. The perception of the truth is not always accurate and you are only listing what they believed to be true. A belief is not a fact.
This isn't new evidence! I see so many flaws! In your quote "he said so at least" really think about that. Put that into account. You also said "witnesses saw he wasn't reading from something". 30 seconds later, you tell me that he was reading the stone. How can you read a stone? I'd he ever say? This video only raises more questions.
6 Therefore it will be night for you-without vision, And darkness for you-without divination. The sun will go down on the prophets, And the day will become dark over them. 7 The seers will be ashamed And the diviners will be embarrassed. * Why did "the angel" show him the plates, then make him wait FOUR YEARS to take them? * How could Joseph Smith even carry GOLD plates? Wouldn't they weigh 200 lbs? And he had a bum leg as well. But I suppose someone will just use the classic religious excuse..."It was a miracle." * So Joseph didn't use the "translation glasses" the angel gave him, but instead used a "magic" stone that he already had and previously used for some kind of magical practices earlier? Miracle? Witchcraft? * Didn't the scribe pretend to lose some translated pages, then ask Joseph to simply retranslate them again? Joseph suddenly came up with the excuse that the "angel" now angry, said to translate from a different part of the tablet instead? * And making up detailed stories on the fly is actually quite easy if you have a vivid imagination or schizophrenia. *And finally, this translated book told him that Black people were the evil descendents of fallen angels who sided with Lucifer went against God?
If the gold plates never existed, how did Joseph get numerous witnesses to stand by their stories until their dying day, even when some of them later became angry with Joseph and left the Church?
@@lootingiv4058 Thank you for your rather large list of questions. First off, I am NOT religious. While not an Atheist, I'd consider myself Agnostic. So, in no particular order I'll respond to the Book of Abraham controversy. I'll try to find more information on your other questions and post them later. But, I suspect as a member of the LDS Church, you might be resistant to hearing any facts that contradict your beliefs. Whatever, here's the information I have. Joseph Smith’s Book of Abraham In 1835, Smith obtained ancient papyri from a traveling mummy exhibitionist named Michael Chandler. According to Smith, these papyri contained the words of “Abraham, written by his own hand.” Given that Smith regarded himself as a prophet, seer, and revelator, he “translated” these Egyptian hieroglyphics, which became known as the Book of Abraham. It was first published in 1842 and canonized as part of the Pearl of Great Price in 1880. Note that this was before anyone in America had any working knowledge of Egyptian hieroglyphics. The papyri were once thought to have been destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, although they later turned up in the New York Metropolitan Museum and were given over to the LDS Church in 1967. By this time, scholars knew how to translate Egyptian hieroglyphics. They studied the papyri and concluded that they were part of the Books of Breathing, a famous ancient Egyptian funerary text dated well after the time of Abraham. As it turns out, the translation does not mention anything about Abraham. Even prior to this discovery, there were still translational problems with the Book of Abraham given its three published facsimiles. For example, in Facsimile No. 3, Smith identified one of the figures as “Abraham sitting upon Pharaoh’s throne.” However, Egyptologists agree that this is the pagan god Osiris. Smith also identified another figure as “King Pharaoh, whose name is given in the characters above his head.” However, this is the pagan goddess Isis, and the characters don’t indicate what Smith asserted. The same goes for the rest of Smith’s translations in this facsimile. The famous nineteenth century French Egyptologist M. Theodule dismissed Joseph’s explanations of all three facsimiles as "rambling nonsense.” In addition to all this, Smith’s Egyptian Alphabet and Grammar was published a year prior to the papyri being released to the Church. This lent further evidence that Joseph lied. Professional Egyptologists to whom the Alphabet and Grammar was submitted for examination were quick to point out that the material in Joseph Smith’s notebook bore no resemblance at all to any correct understanding of the ancient Egyptian language. As one of them, I. E. Edwards, put it, the whole work was, “largely a piece of imagination and lacking in any kind of scientific value.”

At 5:35, at number of authors read the book including mark Twain. Who said, its crap. Wilfrid said that Joseph smith was capable of making it up and talks about the narrative being the same as the view of the hebrews. Continue

In writing the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith Jr. tripped himself up very severely. Various errors UNIQUE to the copy of the bible Joseph Smith owned (1769 KJV) are in the Book of Mormon ! This shows, undeniably, that Joseph Smith used the 1769 KJV as a reference and plagiarised text from that Bible. Refer: 2 Nephi 19:1, 2 Nephi 21:3, 2 Nephi 16:2, 2 Nephi 23:21-22. We are told that the Book of Mormon was written and buried in the 400s AD, and that Joseph Smith discovered the plates in 1827, some 1,400 years later. The 1769 edition of the King James Bible contained some specific ERRORS that are UNIQUE to that edition. In other words, those particular errors occur ONLY in the 1769 Bible, nowhere else, so they are easy to identify. Refer to the Book of Mormon: 2 Nephi 19:1, 2 Nephi 21:3, 2 Nephi 16:2, 2 Nephi 23:21-22. How is it that those unique errors from the King James 1769 Bible appear in the Book of Mormon, which was written and buried some 1,300 years earlier? HOW is that possible? HOW could the writer of the Book of Mormon know what would be written in the 1769 King James Bible some 1,300 years later? The fact that those unique errors are found in the Book of Mormon is overwhelming proof that Joseph Smith himself wrote the BofM and copied material from his 1769 King James Bible. What other possible explanation is there? Here are the sections I have mentioned: 2 Nephi 19:1 Nevertheless, the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali, and afterwards did more grievously afflict by the way of the Red Sea beyond Jordan in Galilee of the nations. 2 Nephi 21:3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord; and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears. 2 Nephi 16:2 Above it stood the seraphim; each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 2 Nephi 23:21 But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. 2 Nephi 23:22 And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces; and her time is near to come, and her day shall not be prolonged. For I will destroy her speedily; yea, for I will be merciful unto my people, but the wicked shall perish. As I said, Joseph Smith tripped himself up by plagiarising. He obviously did not know about the unique errors in his 1769 KJ Bible... just as he did not suspect that one day Egyptian hieroglyphs would be fully deciphered, proving his "translation" of the "Book of Abraham" an absolute fraud. /
If you will read the account of king nebuchanezzar, reigning on his first year as king, lehi and his family left jerusalem, a reference in the old testment 2king 24 to 25, states that nebuchadnezzar was killed on the 11th year as king, the exact time that lehi and his family reached the land of promise.. now comparing the timelines on the book of Mormon and from the bible, can a man who grew up from on a farm with little to no schooling... invent such a story? You’ve never read it if you think this, it’s by far too complex, it literally would have made Joseph smith the greatest writer in history to have lived ever and I think selling a talent like this would’ve made him as rich as possible ib his time, instead he chose to be a farm boy for the rest of his life and he died defending that it was brought forward by the power of God. This is someone who chose to fear God more than he feared men and more.
@@GeraldineGlam I read it cover to cover. Many times using my 1830 version opened while listening to the LDS library app. Amazing how many more “And it came to pass” phrases there were in the 1830 version. In my opinion the Book of Mormon is a very boring book that mainly follows two brothers that go different wagys and end up leading large groups of people under their names. Laman and his Lamanites and Nephi and his Nephites. You go on a non-stop see-saw ride with the two groups. One chapter the L and N are at peace. The next chapter there’s contention and they’re at war. Back and forth. Rinse and repeat. Like a football league that only consists of two teams. Then there’s the countdown clock to Jesus’ arrival. This I looked forward to most of all. I suffered thru all the chapters prior to it but was really let down when Jesus arrived. I guess to hear him really say anything new or amazing would have been risky for the author penning his words. Maybe someday I’ll give it another go. Till then I believe the Bible is more than sufficient and in so many ways far superior. Each chapter contains a plethora of wisdom and guidance. You might be feeling one way before you open the Bible but once you’ve ingested a little you’re enlightened by the wisdom and gems of the past. Coming to rest on the one who sees the future. Joseph Smith may believe God to simply be a man with flesh and bone like we have, but He’s far more vast. Vast enough to even create himself in human form so he could look is in the eye. There’s a reason for Galatians 1:8. Heed the warning.
Good thing they got the copyright before release. Who knows how many folks would steal his stuff to start their own religion? And think about the loss of the royalties!
I appreciate your heart felt attempt at explaining this book. You're just doing what your heart is telling you to, and what you were raised to do. For anyone who has clicked on this video please keep in mind the following: There is no "one true church". Think about it. It doesn't make any logistical sense. 6 billion+ people on the planet with 6 billion+ different personalities and God, who created this diversity, wants to strip us of our individuality and have us all conform to a set of rules handed down by a group of businessmen in SLC? Why, to what end? Why would God, the Creator of all the Universes Mormons believe exist, care about what underwear you wear? Like really think about it, and then read the New Testament and find out how Jesus did away with the Law of Moses and all the legalistic ways of being. Then ask yourself why the LDS church would bring back a bunch of rules, even some that contradict their own scriptures (Jacob 2 contradicts section 132; section 68 contradicts section 137 and Moroni 8 are 2 examples)? Then ask yourself if it's OK for the brethren to sell your salvation to you for the low cost of 10%+ of your income? And ask yourself, when your reaction is "they don't sell my salvation to me" what would happen if you stopped paying tithing? What if you never started? Could you go into the temple to receive the mandatory ordinances for you exaltation? What if you felt like God really inspired you to pay that money to a different cause one month? What would the bishop say about that? Why do you think we aren't encouraged to ask God how we can use our money to bless those around us (speaking of our alloted tithing money)? Why is it we are asked to just turn it right over never fully knowing where it's going? Then ask yourself, when was the last time our prophets, seers and revelators, prophesied, saw, or revealed something new to us? Then ask yourself if they aren't prophesying or seeing or revealing, just what is it that they are doing? Seems like they are just the board members of a major corporation, no? Then ask yourself if there has been any studies done on controlling people through various psychological means and then please click this link when you are ready to understand a bit more of how we came to be like we are: freedomofmind.com/bite-model/ Good luck. Never stop asking questions and looking at all resources. God is good and He is mightier than the adversary. Don't be afraid. He wants you to know the Truth. Good luck ♡
As a born again believer, I must respectfully disagree with your point about there not being any "one true church", actually there is! But it isn't a church built by humans. There actually is absolute truth to be found if you know where to look. God Almighty, creator of all things, has provided the only way to find truth, the only way to find true fulfillment in this life and the one to come. He sent His Son Jesus to save mankind from the ravages of sin and the certainty of eternal death that it brings. You see, any other remedy for sin cannot ever bring about salvation and restoration of fellowship with our creator because it comes from imperfect man. Only by accepting Gods plan as outlined in His Word can we please Him and be FOREVER forgiven of our transgressions of His Law. God tells us " For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, there is none righteous, no not one...Jesus came into the world not to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved...If we say we have no sin we lie, and the truth is not in us...For by grace are we saved through faith, it is a free gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast...Jesus said..I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me...Friend, you can find the truth, and Gods Word says it will set you free, and you will be free indeed. Eternal life can be yours by doing it Gods way, there is no other way by which you can be saved!!
there was only 2 churches the church of God and the church of the devil. sounds like there is only one church to me. and I didn't need 4 paragraphs to say that.
Using a medium like a stone is considered a form of divination. God's true word condemns the process. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord ; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. Deuteronomy 18:10-12
A Urim and Thummim is mentioned and used by those anointed of God. They are called Seers. I think you are misunderstanding Seership with Divination. Just as there are real Prophets and false prophets, there are real Seers and false diviners. Hope the additional perspective helps.
@@karlshaner2453- However, the problem with your rational is that Joseph Smith did not continue to use the Urim and Thummin that god supposedly provided Joseph Smith to use in the translation process. Instead Joseph Smith used his own "seer stone" which he even called a medium in his own writings. This same stone the church admits was used for money digging when him and his father use to rip off poor farmers. Not to mention that according to God's only one and true word the Bible Joseph Smith still meets the definition of a false prophet. Deuteronomy 18:22 states that if a so-called prophet makes a prediction and it does not come to pass he is a false prophet and not from God. It is well documented that Joseph Smith made more than a few false prophecies/predictions. Bottom line if Mormonism is true than the Bible is false and you might as well throw it away. But if the Bible is true then all of Mormonism is false. It cannot be both.
@@karlshaner2453 David is correct. Mormons state that the Bible and the BoM agree but they do not at all. The Bible is self-attesting and is enough for salvation. Another testament was not needed, and one that portrays a different god than the God of the Bible at that.
I've read "from Darkness unto Light" by MacKay and Dirkmaat about this translation in detail. This comprehensive video condenses it well in a powerful 7 1/2 minutes.
Here are the facts based on the best historical evidence, mainly from the two primary eyewitnesses, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery. The translation process was that Joseph looked at the plates through the two lenses of the Nephite interpreters which came with the plates (sometimes confusingly referred to by the biblical term "Urim & Thummim" even though they different than the objects described in the OT). These gave him a general literalistic English reading which Joseph then had to study out how to express in the English of his time. This produced an English translation with elements of both the underlying ancient forms and Joseph's language environment. See the new book "By Means of the Urim & Thummim: Restoring Translation to the Restoration," which explains the process in detail and also shows how unreliable the stone-in-the-hat sources are. The Mackay Dirkmaat book is not a good resource as they distort and cherry-pick sources to support their untenable theory which is contradicted by Joseph ad Oliver's clear written testimonies printed during their lifetiemes.
Yeah this all great, but are we just going to forget that Joseph Smith said he could translate Egyptian scolls, which he claimed to be from the Abraham or Joseph , but actually was a prayer for the dead with no mention of either. how easy to prove a false prophet. Moroni is not Hebraic name and also the part the Shual aka Paul spoke way before Book of Mormon to not believe in any other good news from either man or angel/messenger.
It is an amazing book. Simple truths with great depth that get clearer and more obvious the more you read and learn about it. It comes from Christ through his prophets. It brings the spirit in an amazing way as I have given thought and prayer to it. People say "Mormons" aren't Christians, but if any who said that read the Book of Mormon they would know we definitely are. The name of the church is actually The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. "Mormons" is a nickname.
@@zachgarver7922 It wasn't just the name alone he was referring to it is reading the Book of Mormon. We definitely worship and love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I imagine some are the people we see making videos trying to disprove the Church like Jeff Durbin. Jeff and his team are cowards, that's why he only competes against new and young members. He challenged me once and I crushed him, I asked him simple questions about the Bible his fans say he's an expert at, he was speechless, struck dumb unable to answer a single question I gave him. That's how to defeat bigots and apologists, study the scriptures yourself and question them on the scriptures that oppose their doctrine and ask questions in general that the Bible alone doesn't answer.
Considering the many outside literary works (like the King James Version of the Bible) that resembled the dialogue and content found in the B.of M. coupled together with Joseph Smith's ingenious nature, it's obvious he had the whole thing committed to memory long before the book was written.
That would be a incredible feat to write a book and memorize something that complex. But bear in mind these are evidences and not proof. But in my opinion, you can't prove spiritually things logically. I would love it if you read the book yourself and asked God if it's true. Have a good day as well!

You guys... I have this weird feeling in my chest. Almost a burning sensation... I'm starting to think that maybe there actually is some truth here. ... whoops! It was just the chili that I had for dinner.
I personally believe Joseph Smith used the stone spectacales to translate the first 116 pages of the Book of Mormon, then after losing them and his power to translate when the Lord forgave him and restored his gift Joseph then used the Seer Stone and had to look through the hat to humble Smith.
This theory does not work. If there had been a manuscript, we can’t explain why the lost 116 pages weren’t reproduced. Joseph recited the entire Book at 8 pages/day for two months straight, and stylistic analysis shows he did not author it. That is proof. Oceans razor doesn’t allow for the speculation of absurd theories to account for all facts. The simplest is the way Joseph and the witnesses told it.
Al. The Evidence you need is the actual Peep stone the Church now controls to know how he invented the whole fable. Ancient Hebrew Indians coming to North America 5000 years ago in wooden submarines and glowing rocks and you know you have a masterpiece, especially when written in Reformed Egyptian. The Church essay letters are enough to know the fable is in deep trouble.
Hi Zen, Published in the church's monthly magazine (Ensign) Sept, 1977: "Joseph Smith would put the seer stone into a hat and put his face in the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light. And in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear, and on that appeared the writing." That was 42 years ago. Even had a photo of the stone IIRC.
Hi Michael, I agree with you, that the first one usually hears about Brother Joseph translating the plates most often comes without the detail of a seer stone. But how many first explanations of the need for Jesus Christ come with details about Him saying "Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you."?(John 6:53) Like the Sacrament, details, even critically important ones (unlike the seer stone), are left for later study. I knew of the seer stone as a kid but never thought much about it until the Anti-Mormon community tried to make a big deal of it. The ancient prophets used sear stones too, they called them the Urim and Thummim.
Hi Again Michael, How he got it...I'm going by memory here, but I believe he found it in a creek by his house. You should be aware that in Joseph's day it was not unusual or radical to trust in a seer stone. To be able to "see" using one was rare, but the idea of using one was not. "Folk Art" or "Folk magic" as it was called, was a common belief at the time. What he did with it...I am sure I don't know all of the uses, but I do know that there were a few times he saw things for other people. He saw and correctly described Josiah Stowell's house including a painted tree with a man's hand print in the paint. He was in a different town and had never been to the man's house. One time he described the location where a man buried some money and a feather together with the money. The men found the feather but the money had been taken. A third time I know of was when a group of men were looking for a horse that had been stolen. Joseph said the thief was headed to Canada (they lived in upstate New York). They quickly went in that direction and found the stolen horse. If you are going to claim Joseph a fraud then you have to overlook the evidence that he really could use it. Joseph was never convicted of fraud. He was subjected to somewhere between 30 and 42 legal actions. To which of these 30+ are you referring? As to a "proven history of deceiving people", the history I know of shows a man who, together with Emma, adopted two children when their mother died giving birth to the baby boy. The baby later died from exposure the February night a mob dragged Joseph out of his house and tarred and feathered him and the baby took cold and later died from it. The mobbing broke Joseph's front tooth when they tried to stick a vial of poison down his throat. Joseph had a whistle in his speech after that because of the broken tooth. He was up the whole night having the tar and feathers scrapped off his skin and then preached a sermon the next day and baptized a number of converts after. The Joseph I have come to know once convicted a black man of selling liquor on Sunday when he was the mayor of the town. When the black man said the reason he was selling the liquor was because he was trying to raise money to buy his child out of slavery. Joseph said he was sorry but the law must be obeyed and fined the man. The next day Joseph presented the black man with his own horse and told him to sell it and buy the child's freedom with the money. There are many other verified accounts of his generosity and selflessness. If you would care to research more than just and anger against him you might see a different man. The Lord once told Joseph that his name would be had for good and evil, and that prophecy has certainly come true. Many are proof on both sides.

What spin! The BOM has to be the most uninspiring/uninspired book I've ever read. Mark Twain called it "chloroform in print" and also said if all the pretentious, verbose language were removed the book of Mormon would be the size of a pamphlet!
A novelist can produce three pages a day --- Stephan King writes in a trance state. Further, Ellen White, the Adventist movement's prophetess, who lived shortly after Joseph Smith, enters her trance state and produces more religious writing than Joseph Smith.
@@Christopherianmatt This kind of writing is called "flash writing." Moreover, Ellen White, the prophetess of the Adventist movement, who came shortly after Joseph Smith, wrote more material from her trance state, than did Joseph Smith. Moreover, during the time of Joseph Smith, others were producing revelations with seer stones, which was a problem for Joseph, because he wanted to be the sole prophet, seer and revelator and spokesperson for God. Joseph had Hiram Page, who received many revelations with the seer stone he wore around his neck, to stand before the conference and tell the congregation that his revelations were from the devil.
@@Christopherianmatt Joseph Smith had "ghost writers" for example "View of the Hebrews" by Ethan Smith. Then what about Ellen White, in her trance state, she wrote more words considered scripture for the Adventist movement than Joseph Smith.
I don’t think Joseph was the only prophet, but he was for a limited time to be the only prophet for his church. Christ has other churches and they are part his universal church. We would have to individually read, study and prayerful consider each message to know if it is inspired by God. I know that Joseph was inspired by God because God told me. That’s the only way anyone can know anything. But when you study all the religious books written throughout the world, you’ll see how they correlate and come together (if you see with the eyes of the spirit). The Book of Mormon was a collection of scripture, written by prophets, buried to preserve it to come forth a thousand years later. The Nag Hammadi Scriptures and Dead Sea Scrolls are exactly that as well, one even engraved on metal plates, just over one century later.
Here’s another piece of evidence of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon: multiple early leaders of the church left because something or someone hurt their pride. No matter what negative things they had to say about the church, they never once denied the Book of Mormon, some of them having been witnesses of the plates themselves. They kept their testimony of it into their graves.
@@blisham9580 That simply is not true. John Whitmer replied "I now say I handled those plates. there was fine engravings on both sides. I handled them." Martin Harris, "Therefore I desire to testify to all that will come to the knowledge of this address; that I have most assuredly seen the plates from whence the book of Mormon is translated, and that I have handled these plates, and know of a surety that Joseph Smith, jr. has translated the book of Mormon by the gift and power of God" They didn't just "See" them whether in a vision or in actuality. They handled them. Emma rattled the edges under the cloth. Mary Whitmer was shown them. More than just the 11 eye witnesses saw them. The veracity of the witnesses cannot be denied unless you are willing to change written history.
@@oldcowboy3367 There is enough documentation to cast serious doubt on, not only Harris' statements but the testimony of the other "witnesses" as well. "A gentleman in Palmyra, bred to the law, a professor of religion, and of undoubted veracity told me that on one occasion, he appealed to (Martin) Harris and asked him directly, --"Did you see those plates?" Harris replied, he did. "Did you see the plates, and the engraving on them with your bodily eyes?" Harris replied, "Yes, I saw them with my eyes, --they were shown unto me by the power of God and not of man." "But did you see them with your natural, -- your bodily eyes, just as you see this pencil-case in my hand? Now say no or yes to this. " Harris replied, -- Why I did not see them as I do that pencil-case, yet I saw them with the eye of faith; I saw them just as distinctly as I see any thing around me, -- though at the time they were covered with a cloth" (Early Mormon Documents, vol. 2 p. 270). William Smith said his father never saw the plates except under a frock. There was considerable hesitation to sign anything that stated unequivocally that the plates had been witnessed in reality rather than spirit. So, compounded by the "translation" of the book of Abraham, and the lack of ANY archeological evidence, I am certainly far from convinced. You're going to have to do better than that.
Hi BL, Thank you for the opportunity to clear up an often misunderstood part of LDS history. The quote you started to use is from one John A. Clark. A former pastor and no friend of Joseph. The full quote is as follows, "To know how much this testimony [of the three witnesses] is worth I will state one fact. A gentleman in Palmyra, bred to the law, a professor of religion, and of undoubted veracity told me that on one occasion, he appealed to Harris and asked him directly,-”Did you see those plates?” Harris replied, he did. “Did you see the plates, and the engraving on them with your bodily eyes?” Harris replied, “Yes, I saw them with my eyes,-they were shown unto me by the power of God and not of man.” “But did you see them with your natural,-your bodily eyes, just as you see this pencil-case in my hand? Now say no or yes to this.” Harris replied,-”Why I did not see them as I do that pencil-case, yet I saw them with the eye of faith; I saw them just as distinctly as I see any thing around me,-though at the time they were covered over with a cloth" So what you call documentation enough to cause serious doubt is an admitted third had account of an unnamed source, told on an undisclosed date, revealed by an adversary of Joseph that had a motive to spin his information in an unflattering way to a religious movement not of his own. There is another problem with the account. The event to which the three witnesses bore sworn testimony and never retracted, even under duress and also on their death beds, was an event out in open air and the plates were held by an angel, not covered with a cloth. You may be interested to read Mr. Harris's last words on earth. A first hand account told by a non-member of the LDS faith that lived near Martin's home here in the East, he did not follow the saints to Utah and was not at that time a practicing member of the church. This is what the man said, "I stood by the bedside holding the patient’s right hand and my mother at the foot of the bed. Martin Harris had been unconscious for a number of days. When we first entered the room the old gentleman appeared to be sleeping. He soon woke up and asked for a drink of water. I put my arm under the old gentleman, raised him, and my mother held the glass to his lips. He drank freely, then he looked up at me and recognized me. He had been unconscious several days. He said, “I know you. You are my friend.” He said, “Yes, I did see the plates on which the Book of Mormon was written; I did see the angel; I did hear the voice of God; and I do know that Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God, holding the keys of the Holy Priesthood.” This was the end. Martin Harris, divinely-chosen witness of the work of God, relaxed, gave up my hand. He lay back on his pillow and just as the sun went down behind the Clarkston mountains, the soul of Martin Harris passed on." Of the two accounts, I would more trust the latter.
So why did the LDS church go so far out of it's way to teach that the Book of Mormon was translated ONLY with the plates and Urim and Thummim? While this information was present if you dug, it was not taught to the general congregations nor in their curriculum that they meticulously prepare each year. As a missionary, all of these details were conveniently left out of the discussions and were not taught in MTC nor in list of approved reading materials for missionaries.
Joseph Smith never had possession of the golden plates . His translations were all looking into a hat at a sear stone or urim and thummum. That is what is written in Mormon doctrine. The gullibility of blind faith is evident in this presenter when he stated that someone pretending to read out of a hat didn't make up the book of mormon. Of course he wasn't reading from any manuscript because he was making it up as he went along, as depicted in the South Park episode where Lucy hid some of the writings and Smith couldn't reproduce them. There's the proof he made the whole thing up. You also forgot to mention Joseph Smith's prized Jupiter talisman a coin like object he kept with him for good luck and found on him after being shot. This after Smith shot three people while in jail from a smuggled pistol, two of which died. You need to read the actual witness testimony for the golden plates. They saw them with their spiritual eye. No one ever saw the plates just like the treasure that Joseph Smith Jr. was convicted in court for swindling a neighbor. 'Every time the shovel got near the treasure as they dug, the spirit would move the treasure.' The remarkable part of that first translation had the god head described as the traditional Christian trinity. It wasn't until later editions that the three gods were turned in to separate beings as taught by Mormons. There are original prints in circulation not yet destroyed by the church. The book of mormon has had thousands of edits over the history of the church and not just spelling corrections or adding chapters and verses like many Mormon apologists like to reason. Demonstrably, the most perfect book (according to Moron doctrine) is so far from being perfect it's a travesty. Ask yourself why are there so many religions. The simple answer is that spirituality is an emotion just like love, hate, fear, melancholy or joy. The things that bring you joy, contentment etc. are different between people, cultures and languages. The same goes for that spiritual feeling you get from praying, hearing the national anthem, a song that moves you, it's all the same. Mankind has been inventing gods and creeds for millennia. Jesus is probably the most profitable of all religions. There are many billionaire 'Christian' churches that all cherry pick what they want to believe out of the bible. Mormons are special, they have a second book that they can choose from. The book of Mormon doesn't even support much of what is in their Doctrine and Covenants. In other words there are no verses in the book of mormon that directly support temple marriage or most anything else the mormon church teaches. All religions are just a pathetic controlling device for those who want to be controlled.
I really appreciate this video! Those of you who constantly love to argue about the Prophet Joseph Smith and his claims that the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God really need to just study the book itself with an open mind and a sincere heart. If you do so with the right intentions, God will tell you in a way that only you will know--is nothing short of a miracle that this book is true. EVERY time I open the Book of Mormon and study it, I grow a deeper understanding, love, and gratitude of our Savior. Y'all have a blessed day! And quit hatin'! lol

Open mind, sincere heart, real intent. Yup, all the buzz words of a cult. I think you got so open minded that your brain fell out. What about testing the spirit that appeared, nowhere do I see Joseph Smith do that.

Bring some actual evidence other than declaring your belief. I found this video very disappointing
George Praisehim you are literally doing what you accuse the video of doing lol: declaring your belief without even engaging the claims. All you have to do is simply look at the video description, and you can read the research for the claims and arguments made in the video.
How does the Mormon respond to the admonition of Paul the Apostle in Galatians 1:8-9...But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!...OR AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN...ACCURSED!!! How much clearer can it be?
BAMAJiPS You assume that Paul was teaching your gospel. We believe the gospel was lost and then restore through Joseph Smith. We believe in the prophecy found in Rev14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people. The angel Moroni appearing to Joseph is in fullfilment of that prophecy. He was taught by Moroni. If you believe that the gospel was never lost then theres no need for Protestantism becuase the Catholics were before the reformation and laid claim to apostolic sucession through the popes.
Xanhnha Luu because God didnt send Moroni. The gospel has never been lost. You can trace people groups thru history and there is ample historical WRITTEN records. Joseph Smith has proven to be a liar and Paul said he is ACCURSED. Thus me saying how wonderful it is he is in hell awaiting to be cast in the lake of fire after judgement. The SAD part is - he has duped so many people into his con - making men believe that THEY will be gods. Equal to the God of the bible. Well Satan said you'd be like gods knowing good and evil in Genesis. So at least you know where that idea came from. Although you'll still believe anything and everything BUT the bible... including that tingling sensation in your belly.
BAMAJiPS You have not refuted the prophecy found in Rev 14:6. How do you interpret that? Why is God sending and angel with the everlasting gospel if the gospel existed already. Paul is condeming a false gospel that comes from false angels. He never deny the true gospel sent from God through the his angels. So stop taking scripture out of context. Stop jumping from one topic to another. Your gospel is man made interpretations. We receive ours directly fron heavenly messangers. There were many eye witnesses not just Jospeph alone.
It's not fake because it did not come from a stone in a hat.
So front he time he was told about the plate to when he got the plates could’ve he wrote or had help right the script. And using the same stone the he used for “treasure hunting” or glass looking a con that was done In the 1800 and used them on gold plate. Sounds like he pulled “gold” out of thin air with creating a religion
Hi, Tim, if you really did honestly want to know the truth, and had taken the time to read Joseph Smith’s personal account in the first few introductory pages of the Book of Mormon and also in more detail in the Pearl of Great Price, you would easily have known that the angel, Moroni, came once again to Joseph so that he could gather them up to where they rightfully belong, and that Joseph gave them to Moroni. It makes sense to me that since the plates were that precious and contained an ancient record of people and their dealings with God, that contained his gospel, then of course he would not want them to end up in some museum somewhere, when men who didn’t have good will, nor good intentions would try to translate them, thereby trying to prove Joseph Smith was a fraud in their eyes. It was in God’s wisdom that Joseph was to give them to Moroni for safekeeping. And why is it that you don’t seek the original scrolls from which the Bible was written? Doesn’t someone like you need proof for that, too?

The narrative of the top hat was not taught by the church until recently. It only appeared in the gospel topics essays after 2013. Before that we were taught JS translated directly from the plates to Harris, Cowdery or Emma Smith using the urim and thummim. So the narrative has changed from what was taught before. If you look at the Ensign cover for Feb. 2001 you will clearly see the old method of translation.
The Church has lied to Us all the time , now it's being forced to tell the truth bcz of the pressure of the media.

It dont line up bcuz the book contradicts it self

@ David Hawkins - can you help me understand a little better what the church’s goal in minimizing the hat story would be if it is true.
Miracle? It was discovered that Egyptian Demotic Script had been used to write Aramaic text! The translation turned out to be three Israelite psalms written about 400BC.
This is an example of "Reformed Egyptian" used by Israelites and discovered by non-Mormons!!
Thanks I will look at it, always take Joseph Smith word over all the skeptics, he consistently is eventually shown to be correct.

Hence arose the very prevalent story of my having been a money-digger."

@One God One Christ
mormonism and islam, same demons, both false prophets.
Jesus called people to worship the creator but it was Paul who called others to worship him. Jesus worshipped God. Him dying for our sins is all paganism corruption. Moses never worshipped the trinity, neither did Noah, or Solomon, or David or anyone but the religion of Paulstianty taught you to.
That is all well and good buuuuut....

-How come seer stones aren't used today?
-He promised his treasure digging buddies a piece of the gold plate money and he stiffed them on it which is why people pursued him for them.
-The plates were not gold according to the dimensions and weight of the plates given many think they were tin sheet smith could have easily fabricated.
-When did god say to use the seer stones?
-Joseph smith Knew about the book of Mormon for years and would go out into the woods often to see the plates and speak with Moroni. Don't you think that is plenty of time that he had he could have come up with something in that matter of time?
-and this whole notion that Joseph Smith was some Forrest Gump level guy is just absurd, during his time many thought of him as very intelligent.
- And he acts like what we have today as the BOM is what was written back then. The book of mormon has gone through thousands of revision and corrections many grammatical but many changed regarding the nature of the trinity.
But of course if we had a sure knowledge why would we need faith? well faith would have to support polygamy, changes in Tithing, Temple ceremony, polygamy, how the church is run like a corporation not like a church. polygamy. Blacks and the priesthood, sexism, polygamy and many more.

well answer these questions
If the gold plates never existed, how did Joseph get numerous witnesses to stand by their stories until their dying day, even when some of them later became angry with Joseph and left the Church?
Joseph Smith, There are 2 Sides of him
1. A Fool's Fool and 2. He's The Real Deal

I have a Theory that He is Kinda Both
He probably did Found The Plates but he probably didn't see the Angel Moroni but He was in a "Sleep" Vision until later on and the "Reform Egyptian" is an Earlier Mix of Cree and others Writings and then later on Joseph Smith and "Advisors" that Had someone who looks like Moroni and Force Joseph Smith to Poly Marriages and then I think he was A very good person who trying to do Good and then people who weren't liking him AKA "The Elites" of those times were mad that he was doing it and that why he Assassinated
I'd say the publisher rejection of the book of mormon years before he claims to have translated it might be something to consider.
This i would like to know more about.

I have thought critically about it all and you may find it surprising that the critical thinking increases my testimony!
When I think critically I realise I'm thinking just alike the Pharisees.
Pharisees: Jesus Christ is a con man.
Critics: Joseph Smith was a con man.
The parallels go on and on. All critical thoughts about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are the same thoughts the Pharisees and Sadducees had of Jesus Christ and his apostles.
blc b. And the bible is of course, full of undeniable facts, as any "critically thinking" person would attest to... Or is the bible full of miraculous, scientifically unexplainable, unreasonable and implausible events? Only an atheist has any right to ask people of faith, to think critically.
Here's a quote by Lucy Mack Smith, Joseph's mother:
"During our evening conversations, Joseph would occasionally give us some of the most amusing recitals that could be imagined.

The critics look at documented historical facts. They don't have to make up anything. There is more than enough scientific data do disprove the church. You apparently haven't seen any of it. You choose deliberate ignorance and just pretend that the critics are making up wild stories. Try naming one of the crazy made-up stories that the critics have made up and put some effort into your next reply.
Stylometric wordprint analysis concludes that Joseph was not the author of the text, and that Nephi, Alma, Mosiah and other books were written by separate individuals and have been compared with the writing of all the people close to Joseph.
Which if I saw the creator of all and knew the religion which was true I would not reject the church anymore and yet... They did
Those who left the church never rejected it or said it was false, but left because of personal reasons. But they never rejected the truth and what they saw

For thinking people who take the time to seriously study Joseph Smith (not just the material that Mormons put out) they will find Mormonism fake. But believing that Jesus will get them into the next life, is also an illusion.
1 Nephi 11:18 in the 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon PROVES that the book is FAKE.
This is TRUE. It is a fact that the BOOK OF MORMON does NOT teach Mormon Theology!!!!!!!!!
Hi Geoff,
I don't have strong opposition what you said about the Bible, but neither do I see it's relevance to your main argument that the BOM is the strongest evidence against it's translator. Whether the Bible is insufficient or not has little to do with whether or not Joseph translated the BOM.
I recently finished the Book of Mormon again this year. But this time I was studying it more thoroughly. I read and marked a lot of fascinating things that I never saw before.
I was nearing the end when I followed a footnote that led me to John 10:20-21
(Think of Joseph Smith in these verses.) "And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him? Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?"
The "EYES OF THE BLIND." Does the Book of Mormon open one's eyes? Yes!

You have to acknowledge that spiritual truths are discerned spiritually, not by visual things believed to be evidence.
I identify truth through prayer, study & ponder, fast, and most importantly, by the help of the Holy Ghost.
As prophesied by Isaiah the people were going to be put into a spiritual sleep while the Lord performed a marvelous work among them.
Isaiah 29:9-12
9 ¶ Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.
10 For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.
11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
12 And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
Isaiah 29:14
14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.
We were all in a spiritual sleep, the prophets were covered and Christ performed a marvelous work.
1 Nephi 9:5-6
5 Wherefore, the Lord hath commanded me to make these plates for a wise purpose in him, which purpose I know not.
6 But the Lord knoweth all things from the beginning; wherefore, he prepareth a way to accomplish all his works among the children of men; for behold, he hath all power unto the fulfilling of all his words. And thus it is. Amen.
This marvelous work was the preparation for the restoration and gathering of Israel.
Ezekiel 37:15-17
15 ¶ The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,
16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:
17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.
Two records shall become one in thine hand in the last days, one record by Judah and one by Joseph.
We know the Bible is a record of Judah.

12 Ye are my disciples; and ye are a light unto this people, who are a remnant of the house of Joseph.
The Nephites made the record of Joseph.
One stick for Judah, one stick for Joseph and they became one in thine hand.
2 Nephi 29:8
8 Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.
"the testimony of two nations is a witness"
Ezekiel 37:18-22
18 ¶ And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?
19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.
20 ¶ And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.
21 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:
22 And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:
The Lord knew and saw the Great Apostasy and knew his people were going to dwindle in unbelief and would need another witness of Christ for the gathering of Israel.
D&Cs 1:29-30

Who needs evidences of "The Book of Mormon" when you have stupors of thought and burning bosoms?
@@bryanclark8339 I said the Church was rich, not individuals. Interesting how you were able to find something that wasn't actually there!
I have a theory...
Joseph put his "seer" stone in the hat and then his face only to keep the Urim and Thummin concealed from view (they were already in the hat.)
He did this because at thar particular time he had been forbidden to show any items of antiquity to anyone on pain of death.
The Lord was fully aware of Joseph's little pretense (see D&C 5:4)
This would explain so many things.
Joseph Smith wrote: , "no man knows my history" and apparently that included Emma.
He read the plates with his face in the hat you know how ridiculous that sounds
The amazing thing is that anyone would think this helps sell these artificial religions...
It would be nice if someone could locate the stone box on the hill where the plates had been buried. I've read that many people have searched for it, but nothing has been found. They say we have to believe by faith as part of our mortal test.
Joseph Smith was a freemason and him and his disgusting brother had multiple wives; including underage girls.

@@kcb5336 No I don't. Because it's baloney.
@@TEAM__POSEID0N why do you see faith and knowledge as contenders? Faith supports and works toward knowledge. Why the pessimism?
But, I suspect as a member of the LDS Church, you might be resistant to hearing any facts that contradict your beliefs. Whatever, here's the information I have.
Joseph Smith’s Book of Abraham
In 1835, Smith obtained ancient papyri from a traveling mummy exhibitionist named Michael Chandler.
Theodule dismissed Joseph’s explanations of all three facsimiles as "rambling nonsense.”
In addition to all this, Smith’s Egyptian Alphabet and Grammar was published a year prior to the papyri being released to the Church.

Here are the sections I have mentioned:
2 Nephi 19:1 Nevertheless, the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali, and afterwards did more grievously afflict by the way of the Red Sea beyond Jordan in Galilee of the nations.
I’m still waiting for the evidence.
Could the Book of Mormon have been written in that four year period?

There is no "one true church".
Then ask yourself if there has been any studies done on controlling people through various psychological means and then please click this link when you are ready to understand a bit more of how we came to be like we are: freedomofmind.com/bite-model/
Good luck.

Believe as you will. Enjoy your study of the Bible and may you ever live your life according to the principles taught therein.

Another 4 years... That's enough to write a whole book! That's amazing...ly convenient
Ten years ago if you said to any Mormon that Joseph Smith used a peepstone in a hat, they would've called you an "Anti - Mormon liar".
Do a search for info on "SEER STONES" and you will see that it is also term for a "crystal ball".
Hi Zen,
Published in the church's monthly magazine (Ensign) Sept, 1977: "Joseph Smith would put the seer stone into a hat and put his face in the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light. And in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear, and on that appeared the writing."
That was 42 years ago. Even had a photo of the stone IIRC.
Hi Michael,
I agree with you, that the first one usually hears about Brother Joseph translating the plates most often comes without the detail of a seer stone.
Hi Again Michael,
How he got it...I'm going by memory here, but I believe he found it in a creek by his house.
My cousin who is 71 learned about the translation process and the seer stone when she was in Primary.

Michael Miller but they all take time to edit, and Stephen King hires ghostwriters to help develop his novels.
@@Christopherianmatt This kind of writing is called "flash writing." Moreover, Ellen White, the prophetess of the Adventist
movement, who came shortly after Joseph Smith, wrote more material from her trance state, than did Joseph Smith. Moreover, during the time of Joseph Smith, others were producing revelations with seer stones, which was a problem for Joseph,
because he wanted to be the sole prophet,
seer and revelator and spokesperson for God. Joseph had Hiram Page, who received many revelations with the seer stone he wore around his neck, to stand before the conference and tell the congregation that his revelations
were from the devil.
What about Isaiah 43:10?
Not one of those "witnesses" saw those plates with anything other than "the mind's eye". How is that a reliable testimony?
@@blisham9580 That simply is not true.
John Whitmer replied "I now say I handled those plates. there was fine engravings on both sides. I handled them."
Martin Harris, "Therefore I desire to testify to all that will come to the knowledge of this address; that I have most assuredly seen the plates from whence the book of Mormon is translated, and that I have handled these plates, and know of a surety that Joseph Smith, jr. has translated the book of Mormon by the gift and power of God"
They didn't just "See" them whether in a vision or in actuality.
"A gentleman in Palmyra, bred to the law, a professor of religion, and of undoubted veracity told me that on one occasion, he appealed to (Martin) Harris and asked him directly, --"Did you see those plates?"
Harris replied, he did.
"Did you see the plates, and the engraving on them with your bodily eyes?"
Harris replied, "Yes, I saw them with my eyes, --they were shown unto me by the power of God and not of man."
"But did you see them with your natural, -- your bodily eyes, just as you see this pencil-case in my hand? Now say no or yes to this. "
Harris replied, -- Why I did not see them as I do that pencil-case, yet I saw them with the eye of faith; I saw them just as distinctly as I see any thing around me, -- though at the time they were covered with a cloth"
(Early Mormon Documents, vol. 2 p.
Hi BL,
Thank you for the opportunity to clear up an often misunderstood part of LDS history. Now say no or yes to this.” Harris replied,-”Why I did not see them as I do that pencil-case, yet I saw them with the eye of faith; I saw them just as distinctly as I see any thing around me,-though at the time they were covered over with a cloth"
So what you call documentation enough to cause serious doubt is an admitted third had account of an unnamed source, told on an undisclosed date, revealed by an adversary of Joseph that had a motive to spin his information in an unflattering way to a religious movement not of his own.
He lay back on his pillow and just as the sun went down behind the Clarkston mountains, the soul of Martin Harris passed on."
Of the two accounts, I would more trust the latter.
I learned in the 1980’s that he translated the plates using both methods. The main point is that he did it using the gift and power of God.
This is NOT an evidence, why there is NO evidence on the ancient tribes about your lie?
I really appreciate this video! Those of you who constantly love to argue about the Prophet Joseph Smith and his claims that the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God really need to just study the book itself with an open mind and a sincere heart. If you do so with the right intentions, God will tell you in a way that only you will know--is nothing short of a miracle that this book is true. EVERY time I open the Book of Mormon and study it, I grow a deeper understanding, love, and gratitude of our Savior. Y'all have a blessed day! And quit hatin'! lol
Wil Heimuli thanks
Zander Sturgill anytime Brother!
Wil Heimuli I agree! With an open mind and real intent. That is why I always doubt. Doubt is the beginning of wisdom. Because if I doubt my doubt, that means I dont open my mind.
Open mind, sincere heart, real intent. Yup, all the buzz words of a cult. I think you got so open minded that your brain fell out. What about testing the spirit that appeared, nowhere do I see Joseph Smith do that.
Hence arose the very prevalent story of my having been a money-digger."

From white and delightsome to pure and delightsome.
Yeah. I have 2 editions of the Book of Mormon that read WHITE rather than PURE.
Hi @@---zc4qt The thing is the change was actually written into the new edition of the BofM in 1840, most likely by Joseph himself. It is right there in the document. It wasn't found until 1981 due to having more than one manuscript in use.
by the way read moroni 10:4 and tell us what happens will you or read James 1:5 in the bible and tell us what happens can you be that brave?
In samauels dont what section but it talks about the priest when he put out the the candles thats in the temple when the sun goes down when he does that God spirit isnt thier anymore by the way so he doesnt speak with us until its lit again
Yes its the same line you all use but it refers to the old Testament if jesus is the savior if he is the messiah
Read my othe replys below it answer your question about false prophets
Here a scripture. 14 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. (2 Peter 3:14-18)
5 Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. 6 Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar. (Proverbs 30:5-6)

Music almost had me hypnotized. Can you please turn the volume up I don't like being half hypnotized! It has got to be all or nothing!
You didnt bring up the “stolen pages” that ms harris took to test him, so he HAD to start all over. Ontop of the fact that theres a 1837 version that you guys use today
Yeah. What's funny is that the PLATES just so happened to have the info ( that Ms. Harris hide/lost/destroyed) copied TWICE.
@@---zc4qt
They were two sets of plates, the small set and the larger set.
Nephi was commanded to record his people like the wars and what the prophets preached on the large plates, the more spiritual events were to be recorded on the small plates.
Some were on both the small and large plates for they were events involving both spiritual and contention. Such as the event were Korihor was possessed by the devil going around causing dissentions with flattering words.
It is Mr. Harris not Ms.
Also, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. None of which you included in your video
I found your video very bland. You gave absolutely zero tangible evidence but you brushed across them with a very broad stroke… I would love it if you made a 10 part series and talked about each individual part extensively!
Are you a member?
How does the Mormon respond to the admonition of Paul the Apostle in Galatians 1:8-9...But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!...OR AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN...ACCURSED!!! How much clearer can it be?
orderofmelchizedek1 Our gospel is the same that Paull preach.
Why would God send an angel down from heaven to preach the gospel if it was never lost. Obviously, the gospel was lost and needed to be restore.
My question is how is it not fake when you literally have someone reading from a stone in a hat. That just screams fake to me.
It's not fake because it did not come from a stone in a hat.
Where are the golden plates he found in the woods?
