Snapper 'Catch n Cook' | Spearfishing NZ (Viking Kayaks Profish-440)

- Spearfishing New Zealand, Catch and Cook for the Elusive NZ Snapper. In this mission I go on a solo adventure to get some fresh fish for the week ahead and to just get into the ocean to refresh the body as it had been a few weeks since my last dive! I launch the Viking Profish 440 and get onto a ncie Snapper and see some awesome underwater terrain. Afterwards I show you through a typical cook up of crumbed Snapper with a side of filleting!

Hey bro! Tha ks for the feedback! Great sport you're getting into, once you get a few dives under your belt you will very rarely come home without a feed! Good luck out there Kayaks are def an easy option to cover some coast!
Picked up the Viking profish reload today man 👌🇦🇺 she better perform for me Ollie !!! I only bought it coz you made it look good with all those beast kingies and snapper 😂 now that I have it home .... definitely a solid well designed vessel 💪💪👌

Ollie Craig - Reef Hunter I would have had to wait for the 440 So I got reload Because they had them in stock.. I just loaded my guns and fins into front storage pod and was able to strap the rubber lid down with the guns poking out , I’m hoping it’s as suitable for spearfishing as your 440! Will have to test it and find out . I got the chill pod aswell 👌 It’s a big kayak at 4.5 meters so I got the all terrain sand trakz , what do you do with them after you launch . A lot of guys put them in front storage pod but my spearfishing gears in there . I thought of strapping it upside down behind seat?
Finally tried this the other day with some flathead , so nice mate! Awesome little trick with the mayo saves messing around with eggs and flour. Cheers !
Yeah mate! so much easier! I like to substitute the mayo for sweet chilli with my kingfish

Theses are some awesome vids thanks for taking the time to put these together. I just started watching a few of your vids. Ive been missing diving lately hoping to get back out there soon. Also i saw on a previous vid you shot some scoŕpion fish. Could you cook up one of those up on vid. I always thought they were dangerous like the Aussie ones or something.

Cool snapper sounds like it was a hard dive. Really like the idea with the mayonnaise. Like the chef short too . Can't wait to get in the water it's just freezing.

Nice one bro! You have a huge yard! Get those veges and salads going, they love the fish frames and any Kina you end up not eating. It makes the rain not so bad cos you can watch your garden grow!

@@olliecraig-primalpursuit got to give that mayonnaise crumb a go. I've been kayakfishing for about 15 years. If you need a trolley get the low pressure wheels by Wheelez. They go great through soft sand. You look strong as hell so may not need it 😄

Thanks man, I have been enjoying the content on lockdown. I love the underwater shots. How long do you think need to be able to hold your breath to get started spearfishing? How do you get your eye in for shooting? I can’t imagine target shooting underwater haha.
Hey Reuben, Thanks man. You don't need to hold it long at all.. Most of all the big Snapper people shoot are found up in the shallows dawn and dusk a lot of the times lot in only 2-3m of water! In summer at the right spots you can shoot Kingies from the surface. In general you can shoot most species in only 10m of water with most 0-5m. in terms of aiming just point and shoot its just instinct. You can actually setup a floating target which I did years ago when i first started and it was quite fun & useful actually!

Hey mate, I wear Moray suits. Can't fault them myself. Plenty out there just find one that fits you the best it's all about comfort (and of course build quality to a degree)!

Far north is the best for Snapper. But hold all over the place. Best to try dusk or Dawn. Where have you been trying?

Hey Ollie, I'm new to your channel and content and it's brilliant! Keep the good work man! I have a question though, what advise can you offer me as a larger man who wants to explore the underwater world? I've dreamt of diving the cavallis and poor knights since I was a kid
Welcome aboard! Not sure what you mean, but just get into it! Places like the cavallis are nice and fishy so you can actually just Bout shoot fish from the surface in many spot. Just get some good fitting comfortable gear as possible and get into. Also highly recommend people doing a freediving course for safety

Hey Luke the 440 is a beast. Great kayak so easy to dive off and heaps of storage space so great for stepping gear etc.

Mean bros, getting into the kinas even more aye! Looking at getting into the sport bro got a couple questions, how much would it cost rounded up roughly for kayak, wetsuit, speargun to start up? And also what are your thoughts fishing off a kayak with a rod and reel?
Im getting there bro haha! a few at a time now, soon will be pouring them down the throat.. Still a work in progress though! If you want a full setup to get into the sport with some good gear it's not much you're looking at around $800 for everything needed for spearfishing including speargun/wetsuit etc etc everything! so not bad. For a Kayak, you can pick up good kayak for only a few hundred bucks second hand to see how you like it, i used to use a big old piece of S#*t and it still did the job. As for fishing of the yak, absolutely, heaps of guys do it, big comminuty here in NZ -Look up the fb pages for kayak fishing for info and inspiration.

Yeah made up the gun myself. It's just a 100cm alloy Rob Allen rail gun with 16mm rubbers 7.5mm shaft and the handle is standard Rob Allen just white colour grip and its the latest Rob Allen Vecta mech.
