Best part of us in the uk going in to winter.....is you going into summer Ollie which means more awesome content like this! Love it....keep it up! Com'on the ABs!!!!!
Really enjoyed your videos Ollie! Rest of your followers 😎 would really appreciate it if you could do a video on how to store and dry wetsuit/ cleaning and washing of spearfishing equipments. 😃
Hiya Ollie, I should've been sleeping instead of watching your fabulous video snapshots as I had a very early start for work....but it was so worth it...Love your videos. Take care and stay safe diving. Thanks once again 🙏🙏🤗🤗🎏🙋♂️. Trev
This is epic. I used to fish off of a viking in QLD. It was incredible and a little nerve racking at times. The thought of jumping in from the yak sends chills down my spine. In saying that, by the end of today, I will have pretty much all of the necessary gear to dive for paua. I really excited! And a little nervous. lol. There's some big sharks in this country. You spearing around bronsies is next level. Crazy man! lol
Good to see you out and about again Ollie. Enjoyed the Fallow deer hunt...(you were huffing and puffing a little. Looks like more work than spearfishing 🤔😱😀). Then you backed it up with those superb early morning glass-out conditions. Awesome snapper and scallops champ....well done. I noticed you sporting a new roller gun...was that a Pathos? What did you think of it, in comparison to the other roller guns you've used. Keep staying safe. I'll look forward to more of your aquatic adventures 🚣♂️🚣♂️🐟🐟....cheers. Trev🙋♂️
Hey Trev, thanks for that. Yeah a bit more cruise the old spearfishing! Good to stretch those kings out though! Cheers mate. I’ve had a rob Allen carbon roller gun for a while that might be what your looking at? That snapper scallop video is fairly old too I think that was a rob Allen converted to a roller gun too. Never owned a pathos
Thanks for the reply and sharing the info. I wanted to share some personal experience I've had with float/tow rope choices. I have used, and found water ski rope very effective and easy to use as it doesn't tangle as much as other ropes....mind you, any rope around a wash will get caught up. Happy hunting champ...the barefoot walking is an interesting idea too 🤙🤙😁😀. Trev
Ollie, do you have a family, get yourself a Kid, My Father got me into the sport and we have travelled all over the World for some amazing Spearo trips, Kodak moments for life, 👍👍👍
Hey Ollie, just wondering how you feel about diving alone? I've seen people saying you should not do it due to the risk of shallow water blackout but you and other NZers seem to get along fine. Thinking about some solo stuff myself
Hey mate, do some training/courses, understand your own body, and never push to the limits while solo. Invest in a dive watch, monitor your surface intervals etc. Theres still risks of all sorts of nature while out diving, not just black out, just be as safe as possible and get on with life, plenty of other ways in the world with much more risk everyday. it's not for everyone but I love it.
Hey Ollie, I like your kayak setup, would you do a video on the kayak and what you take with you and what you do with the kayak when you’re diving, anchored or what?
Pretty stunning mate and a really nice snapper. I managed to get in yesterday after waiting ages. I used some of your tips and got 5 good fish. However, dodgy shark clip cost me my gun.
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit I went and got a Pathos Sniper Carbon Roller gun. Is that what you use and if so are they complex to rig and how are they in general?
Hey mate, Iver only ever used Rob Allen's and Riffe spearguns. Both very simple, accurate, and Al. Ost indestructible. I csnt say I know too much about the pathos roller, think I have seen one and it looked like a lot going on but I'm sure will a great gun
Nice Vid Craig, Some areas look like good cray country...Just none around close to Auck anymore? Gosh that seagul buzzing your Drone didnt want to go away....I always worry about them when i got mine up.
Hey Ollie just wondering, for auckland/northland east coast area, what weather/marine conditions have you found give best vis and results? cheers from a newbie
Hey mate it can vary along the coast quite a lot due to different soils/rocky vs clay etc and if near a harbour/estuary. Basically you want minimal wind and less than 1m swell. If diving close to shore offshore winds are fine even if quite strong but you ideally want swell around 0.5m I'll try get a video up soon about how to read weather etc. If been pumping big swell and onshore winds for few days then vis will be shit. Also after heavy rain anywhere near an estuary river or harbour is almost a write off. Also this time of year (spring) is when the algae etc in water boom and water turns green everywhere. Middle of winter often has best vis and end of summer.
Nice video man! Would have been great to see a catch and cook with those scallops.. What is that knife you are using btw? It looks a lot like a Mora Companion..?
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit that is a smart thing to do, I would do the same. Looking at some knives now it looks like Wahoo killer with that blue and 7 dollar price tag. Looking forward for the catch and cook man!

Hey Ollie are you ever worried you are going to get some grief from sharks, especially being out on your own? I've heard the waters north of Auckland can be pretty sharky.
Love the vids buddy! Always cool seeing how some spots sort of remind me of here in Canada. I noticed you kill the urchin for baiting. Does NZ have any issues with urchin overpopulation? They’ve been pretty ravenous here and have been destroying kelp/reefs from California up to here in Canada. Might bring a hammer myself next time I go spearin haha
Thanks mate! Yeah due to over fishing, nothing is eating the kina(sea urchin) so they are growing rapidly in numbers munching the kelp as you said happens over there.. Makes great snapper bait and doing a bit of culling at the same time works out well!

I tend to dive around Matheson bay Leigh, was wondering if that's an OK spot or not.
Mean videos brother!

You reckon that water at the end is flat and clear enough.
lucky. We are down in Gisborne where water that clear is a rarity
It was quit everage vis that day about 5m max. Good vis up here is 15m
What's the best way to get in and out of the kayak when spearfishing? also, where do you suggest storing the fish?
Just pull self up from the side, best to have a specially made cooler bag or pod like I do that sits in a well
Hey Ollie noticed your drone got buzzed by a Black Back Gull..had similar experiences, how do you deal with them?
Haha yeah he was a bit pissed off. Can't do much about it. May have been close to his nest
Take good care of the snappers because in Mediterranean they are in the list with the endangered species just like the dusky grouper and the lobster.
Plenty of snapper around, won't have any effect by guys like me. It's the commercial sector which are doing the severe damage
We caught all the snapper we wanted this morning up to 60cm ( around 4 kilos) fishing with soft plastic baits. Your species are called dentex?
