That has gotta be the! Best dive vid I've seen on RUclips. Im trying to ease myself into solo dives, I am absolutely sick on trying to find people to dive with. Good job bro, love your mahi!
Cheers for the Feedback Adam! Appreciate it mate. Yep solo way to go for me, no waiting for people running late. Choose where you want to dive and for how long. Love it. Days out with mates def still have their place though
I have been solo diving years man, it's really hard finding people to go with so few spearos out there as it is. Where do you fish?
Yeh, it's hard to find folks. My advice- don't dive deep when out solo.
Spearfishing looks like so much fun, I've kind of used a sling before but never really had much luck because didn't go to any proper spots, I watch ur vids often and just love your content, keep doing what your doing bro
Your best vid yet Ollie and a showcase of Northland underwater. You must be stoked to have captured the day on film. Btw, that looked like a Brydes Whale.
Hey bro thanks for the feedback. Yep it was a pretty awesome day out. Brydes is what I thought too!
Thanks for sharing such a lengthy video. Even the boat rides feel amazing with such beautifu environment
Happy to share, thanks for your comment!
Phenomenal vid , ouuutstanding!
Thank you 😊
beautiful day mate, well done. never disappointed watching your vids
Wow man, that was one of the most perfect days you could ever hope for. Soooooo good 👍
Pretty Stoked alright!
Mean vid man! Been waiting a while for one of these!
Cheers mate. Been a bit busy, wil try get back into it
Amazing vid bro , the water was so clear.
Yeah man, lucky to go diving In such conditions!
awesome mate, best quality NZ spearo vids
Glad you like them!
Its been so long happy to see you Again
Haha thanks mate
Just stunning water. Good feed too Ollie. Cheers
O for awesome! And for Ollie, as luck would have it 😜 Great video and great fish too. Keep 'em coming....
Haha cheers Tim!
Uncle.ollie.you.always.get.it.done.
Thanks :)
This video was perfect from one end to another
Thanks 🙏
Aaaaawwwwwesome bro!! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🐟🦈🐟🦈
Good to see you back on the air Ollie. Great video with stunning colour. Would love to see you do a masterclass on your video production technique. Lots to learn from you, for sure.
Cheers Keith! I'll put in on my list of videos to make
Really good quality graphics Ollie wished you could’ve hung out with those Ray’s a bit longer the colors were brilliant. As usual you make me hungry for a feed of fresh fish. Love your work 😎
Yeah mate was incredible down there, wish I had a better breath hold! Cheers for the comment 🤙
Hi Ollie, awesome footage. The clear viz would be a welcome change. I've been diving dirty viz for a month or two now...cyclone season doesn't help much. Better weather patterns aren't that far away. I recall from memory your weather patterns are the opposite to ours in Oz? Stay safe and happy hunting.....keep those awesome adventures rolling in. Trev :) :)
Cheers Trev, yes the water clarity was amazing! Cyclone season doesn't sound too great. Our best months diving have just started Feb through April are very good and mostly cleaner
Cracking vis ey. Great work Ollie, keep it up mate
Yep scored it big time on the vis that day! Cheers mate
That was a very cool vid, great spots you dived, makes me want to get out there!
Great! Get out there!
Tip for despatching squid you can stick your fingers in its hood and seperate the cartilage from the hood of the squid it kills them a lot quicker and no need to get your knife out. At least that's what we do with southern calamari in Victoria.
Thanks will try that next time!
Just press behind it eyes too 👍 either way, i’m clumsy with the knife. Great content mate many more subs soon im sure
Awesome bro, mean as! Thanks for all the great vid's.
Easy bro happy your enjoying them!
At last! Great! Interesting and amazing vid.!🐠🐬🐡
Enjoy Larissa)
That weededge is one of my fav spots there! I never see any jd or boaries but there’s always so so much fish life and that spot u got the kingi is also mint always has good bust ups
Yep the place is pretty fishy!
Would you be able to tell me what these islands are called?
Another awesome video bro can't believe you motored solo out to aldermans after cleaning spark plugs at the jetty everything was on your side though, you must get real itchy flippers when your on land, keep up the awesomeness bro
Thanks bro. Yeah was a bit of a crazy mission! but good old trusty irb, had plenty of water and a speargun, and cell phone coverage. Can't go too wrong. Still more risk of something happening driving home.. Alwyas have itchy feet mate
Awesome video, this stuff gets me fizzing for a mission myself!🤙🏼
Cheers Ben! Rip into it mate
Made my Saturday. 🙏
Awesome to hear bro!
Awesome vid bro
Looks like kong island
Keep the vids coming 🤙🏾
Dive safe
Haha yeah man cool place. Cheers!
Nice! That boarfish was huge
not too bad have shot much bigger. cheers
What a day!! Hell of a vid mate, loved it 🔥
Cheers Daniel! Happy you liked it mate
Hey mate, looks totally epic! Where did you launch from?
Mean brother great vid as usual shes a great place out there for sure.
Cheers Paul, sure is
Been a while ollie, but definitely worth the wait, awesome views quality weather and fishing, your living a dream of many mate, really awesome and genuinely appreciate you sharing, one slight negative though when are you going to bury that motor...? 🤷♂️🤣🤣
Late repy but thanks for the feedback! I will bury It when I can afford a new motor!! feel free to donate haha
@@olliecraig-primalpursuityeah very late reply, where you been man..ps cant you somehow sound proof that old motor with some kind of insulation ? It really hurt my ears that time, and I do donate i purposely watch all the irritating adverts on your channel 😏
Unreal bro. Big fan of your vids
Thanks mate!
Meke mission bro - some super clean viz and a nice variety bag of kaimoana 👌🏽
Cheers Michael! Was an awesome day 🤙
Hi ollie. Just wondering when you have time if you can make a small video of your irb? what year the boat and outboard is? What you check over before heading out? what you bring with you before heading out? how far you head off shore? what conditions you look for before heading out? Swell tides chop weather? How you launch off the boat ramp? or if you carry it and launch off beaches etc?
Would be interested in a video like that for people wanting to buy a good little set up like yours.
Cheers
Hey mate cheers for the feedback. I'll put that on the to do list!
love the confidence you have bro
Always a work in progress! Cheers
Awesome video mate, I have to ask……….. are you ever worried about big white pointers hanging around ? I know I would be lol 😂👍
Not at all, Not many around NZ just in certain areas. Yet to see one in the water
Lucky guy, living in paradise... Love your videos... One day, hopefully i will get the chance to spear in NZ as well. Greetings from Slovenia (northern Adriatic sea).
Thank you! I hope you can make it over one day too!
Ka pai cuz, keep up the good hunting bro 🤙🏼
Thanks Keanu! Cheers for the comment mate
Bloody amazing mate, that water up there looks beautiful, I love how much fun you have as well as your enthusiasm and care for the enviroment. It's been big snapper, gurnard and flounder down here in Paraparaumu with this warm weather. You're a bit of bad influence though mate,I had to go cook the snapper steak I had ready for lunch tomorrow after seeing your calamari and smoked fish and I'd already had dinner.
Haha, good influence I reckon! That's healthy eating! Haha cheers for the feedback mate. Good luck out there bro
Far out awesome spot I can see all those islands from my view while I was watching, must go for a dive out there and it’s awesome that you did it in an irb
Yeah mate quite the Misson in an irb but easily doable in the right conditions!
Hi Ollie, living the dream mate👍, keep posting bud so enjoy your content. Was wondering if you wouldn't mind doing a vid on how u set up ya rubber duckie when u go out on ya solo missions, all the stuff, ropes and techniques u go with depending on dive conditions 👍 would really appreciate the insight.
Sure thing mate I'll put that on the Video to-do list
Awesome video!! Well done 💯👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great stuff bro!
Awsome clear waters ka pai the bro 🤙
Yeah bro was unreal conditions that day!
I want to build an off-grid house between the 2 pillars on that island. Wait, does that make me a bond villain?
Bloody cool spot aye
Hey Ollie! Mean vid man! Been wondering where you had been haha! Just curious, how deep where the first few dives??
Hey mate, probably no more than 15m. Was just warming up maybe less
Mesmerizing video, bro. I would love to come fish with you someday. Wicked cold fishing here on the New England coast 🇺🇸. Heading down to South America for a bit to try my luck in warmer seas. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for the comment Fabreeze! Good luck on South America! What country will you dive in?
Hope you made it back from that accursed continent.
I wish dive shops sold left and right gloves separately!!!🤣😂👍
They do, just need to buy x2 left and x2 right haha
Awesome. Do you ever freak out diving on your own :)
Cheers. Nah mate I love it out there by myself. Not for everyone though!
Aweosme vid !! Do you have any sharks to take note of in your area? Dangerous?
Wow nice....
Thanks)
Great video as always! Greetings from the Mediterranean. Have you managed to see any America's Cup racing from the rib in the gulf?
Late reply! but no I was too busy out diving! Better to watch on TV anyway unless you have a massive yacht!!
good vid as always bro , I've seen a few whales around the mercs recently
Cheers bro. How mercs cleaning up? Need to get down there for a mission
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit Good bro , alot of kingies and bait balls around recently , try get around soon if you can !
@@benjolly2967 who are you? Btw 😅
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit ahah this is just a name i use for gaming ... My names Ben Jolly , live in Kuaotunu , 18yrs old and thats about it really :)
Hey Ollie, I'm pretty sure I passed you on the motorway coming out of the tunnels the other night! 😂 Anyway, I like the Aldermans video but was wondering if you can tell us in your videos up North where it is you launch from?
Hi Robbie cheers for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the vid. I won’t be sharing locations, I’m sure you can understand. Cheers
Ollie, would be nice to see the geo-location of the areas you are exploring.
Great video so far Ollie, hey how deep was your dive for the boarfish?
Cheers Cary. About 15m maybe bit more
Like your videos
Yessss a new vid
your bloody epic bro
Cheers!
Hey Ollie love your Vids bro I’m down in Tauranga an I was just wondering what group of islands were they an area if u don’t mind cheers bud keep up the great work
Hey mate send me a pm!
amazing footage! would you mind to share some additional info of smoking the fish?
Thanks! Sure, I will get some smoking footage into one of my future videos!
New Zealander of the year is wasted every year you don't get it lol. Typical kiwi, frank, humble showing a great backyard. Good on you
Haha cheers Frazer
He’s back!! Might want to invest in a small 4 stroke. I had a Yamaha 40hp 2 stroke and was tired of it flooding. What does your fish smoker look like? Hopefully the Tasman Travel Bubble thing happens and I’ll probably be over for a holiday.
Yeah that's the plan Timothy. Just need to get the $ together. Maybe next year. I'll try get my smoker setups in a next video
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit I’ll be trying to do a noob spearo video this weekend, first attempt. It’ll be about the journey my son and I take as we learn the ropes. From pole spear and homemade floats to actually shooting fish and getting dinner on the table. I’d be interested in some vid editing tips, you seem to have it well sorted. Yep, the smoker would be interesting to see!!
@@timothyhutchins4668 that sounds like good fun! Just give the editing a crack mate, it's all part of the fun it will turn out awesome, great way to store memories. I think it's possible to do some OK editing on the go pro app?
Good catch bro🤙🏽
Thanks bro!
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit blessings...
En primer lugar lo felicito mi pregunta es la siguiente veo queno utiliza equipo de buseo como ase que tipo de careta utiliza para Reparación bajo el agua porfa
Koolio you found a whaleway station lolz
Hey Ollie. Been a big fan of your vids for a while. Just a quick question - do you have to bleed boarfish? I thought it was more the pelagics and oily fish you need to do it for. Didn't think white fish was that much of an issue? Keep up the great content bro, you're living the life.
Hey mate, cheers. No I don't think so. But I don't think it hurts. Ive heard a few people who bleed all fish including snapper etc.
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit right okay. Cheers for the response.
just getting into diving. where abouts is this? so many awesome looking fish! also any reccomendations of where to go as a beginner? im based in auckland. thanks :)
Cheers mate, north of Auckland. Best get out of Auckland coro or north where waters cleaner
tu meke. 🌊🌞🎣
What camera do you use?? The quality is amazing!
Good old Go Pro!
Awesome footage mate. What number go pro do u use?
Hero 8 mate. And trialing insta 360 camera
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit man u get some great footage. Love your work bro
Always pays to get that outboard a full service!
That was nice of the motor to quit next to the dock.
Yeah mate I get them fairly regularly. Time to save up for a new Boat and motor
Is that Mangawhai?
Is that mangawhai because i recognize the wharf.
Clear water Carm sea beautiful fish is there anything more. O yes where the hell have you been bro we been getting withdrawal sentiments.
hey sick vid, how do you go about smoking fish and storing it once its been smoked. I've tried a few times and failed, amazing conditions
Hey mate I'm not the smoking expert, but brine over night in salt and brown sugar 3 sugar to 1 salt. Then let dry up until tacky to touch and smoke slowly over a few hours will come up beautiful. Vacuum seal to store always the best way
seems I met you at Rosedale BP a month ago?
Perhaps! Often pull in there
is that the hen and chicks up north?
Is that mangawhai? nice day
Yeah mate
What’s the best way to get into the sport? I’ve never done any free diving or anything like that only snorkelling
Go in and talk to a local specialist freediving/spearfishing store they will get you set up properly and give you all the advice you need.
Please take me out!! I’m akl based, would be amazing bruv!!
Maybe one day mate. Join the waiting list of a few hundred though 😅
Hey man, wicked video! So much life. Would you be keen to have a buddy? I’m heading towards the north in a weeks time to do some diving, would love to jump on with ya!
Hey thnaks for the comment) I'm pretty much a solo diver, plenty of people in the spearo community who need a dive buddy also though! Good luck out there!
Hey mate greetings from across the ditch haha what size roller gun do you use i have a 1000 rob allen sparid evo but was recently given a new gt carbon 800 which im keen to use in similar situations to what you were hunting would the 800 be fine for shooting kingies?
Yeah I've shot kingies eith my 750 roller but the 1m would be much more ideal. Mine is a 1m roller
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit yea ok cool and thanks for the reply :)
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit would it be worth converting my 1000 evo to a roller or keep it as a double band?
@@hanna2nv depends what you want to shoot. Double band still heaps of power.
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit i do alot of shore diving for smaller fish usually but still like having the power if a kingie or kahawai n stuff like that come past
Hey mate, what wetsuit are you using??
Moray bro
Hey bro how long can you hold your breath for and how can I train to get a longer breath hold and deeper dive???
Hey mate. Look into doing a good freedive/breath hold course. It will help you a lot
On the squid to quickly dispatch them all you have to do is squeeze behind the eyes about the base of the head and lights out their done.
Cheers mate will try that next time
I like the way you didn’t got to my spots at the chicks....good good
You don’t even shoot anything there anyway
spark plugs, if they are a little dirty just get new ones $6 each, even if they spark when they are out it can be a different story inside, that was my experience after spending ages looking at the carbs, it was just the spark plugs
Cheers!
#bingewatching 😂😅
Hey man where are you diving in these videos?
New Zealand
Ollie Craig - Reef Hunter what camera do you use? gopro?
Yeah go pro mainly got a insta 360 which I'm playing around with too
Primo vid bro Ollie!
Cheers Shawn!
Awesome vid mate! How do you go about your fuel for a day like this on the orange beast? I have the same setup: Do you know how far u can go with the bladder and take spare fuel to get home once the bladder is near empty? or are you more calculated then that? Cheers!
Hey mate, my bladder holds 25l, I took a spare 10l tote that day and didn't even get close to needing it. I Prob used about 17l? I did 60km that day...
hi how are you keeping ya fish fresh while out camping ?
Store in a cooler bag on salt ice
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit thought you might of had some clever little sola fridge for some remote camping when ice is not available
cheers Ollie
😁
What type of smoker do you use?
I've got a home made one mate, out of an ancient dryer from 50's
How many Ltrs of fuel do you bring out?
Normally just my 25l fuel bladder. This mission I bought na extra 10l but didn't even get close to burning though bag. That's after 60km..
