For those that are telling me I am taking Scallops illegally in a no-take zone: Stop getting all your information from Facebook and similar. Call MPI yourself and you will get the same answer I did which that this area is open. Cheers for watching, Ollie
I will add my 2 bobs worth, those who wish to take exception to divers taking scallops, wake up, we have a perfect example of how banning such an environmentally destructive practise it is. Port Phillip bay in Melbourne banned scallop dredging some 15 years after 90% of the sea grass was decimated. It’s now a fantastic snapper fishery, killing everything else to catch one thing is a thing of our selfish past. It’s not about the few scraping and destroying the sea bed or the greeenies banning us all from taking a feed, the scallop fisho’s have huge investments and pay huge fishing fess bite the bullet like we did compensate conserve and thrive
@@richardparmely7796 well said Richy. Ollie is a legend and some people can't handle that.... he the best I've seen underwater as I've been out to sea with nz champions of free diving and I'm sure if he was back in the 80s he would be in that team.
I’m pretty sure those trolls were trying to provoke you so as to get you to name the spot where you got your scallops from so they could get in there. But good thing is you didn’t fall for it, lol. Keep up the great content.
well ollie just want to pass on my thanks for reminding me of such a beautifull country we have, and for all your diving, fishing, and camping shows you have given to us.its been truely a pleasure watching and looking foward to your next venture.keep up the good work Bro...
I enjoy watching your videos, I really like your videos because I’m a fisherman myself and I love fishing that’s why I got bit by a shark while spear fishing at night
Just got home after a 2 day solo camping trip (9/9&10/22) off Beavertail National Park in Rhode Island (2m vis). Caught 2 big scup and a 20" tautog. Cooked the scup in a skillet with some canned fruit and did double beaded tog fillets with noodles for dinner. Keep up the excellent work and dive safe!
Amazing vid again Ollie, tough conditions, no vis, big swell yet we all are left to suffer through you doing it tough chowing down on garlic crays and scallops. Amazing production fantastic trip and just loved how special NZ is and how to enjoy it. Everything about this vid a big life lesson accept what you have and take a moment to enjoy it, I did thanks for sharing. Appreciate the driftwood advice, no wonder my hangovers are so bad beach fishing, I thought it was alcohol poisoning it was the bloody fire 😀😀😀 without doubt best RUclips channel for content, production and sheer enjoyment and passion for your sport your lifestyle. Thanks for sharing how good can life be in NZ but you do have to suit up and get wet when it’s 6 degrees, we all owe you mate keep it coming summer is on the way.
Great vid ollie, it was nice and chilled, made me feel like I was outside for a bit haha, good to get some insight, and the shark was certainly an added bonus, top stuff man, keep up the good work mate👍👍
Peaceful overlay of the ocean on your drone shots Ollie, Loved it. Great work on a tough dive, hard to back into water at 6 deg and half metre vis!! Prob the right choice 🥶
Hi Ollie , love your videos mate , watching from Oz , that murky water had me with bugger all vis , your a brave guy no way I’d been in that for quids lol , nice scallops and cray , awesome tucker , love the diving videos heaps , keep em coming mate , one day I’ll get over to NZ , for now I’ll have to watch from here lol , stay safe and I’m looking forward to your next video already , take care. 👍
Beautiful view of nature and them scallops and crayfish never looked so good! Delicious! The best part of camping out in New Zealand is that unlike other Pacific island countries that have poisonous resptiles, New Zealand is free of that. Love it.. I'll admit, though, I am terrified of sharks...😅
Great vid Ollie. To identify Kanuka, remember 'KISS' : K-anuka I-s S-mall (small flowers) and S-oft (Manuka has larger flowers and the leaves are quite rough to the touch). You missed out on all that wonderful brown kelp: try stir-fyring a bit of that with the shellfish - delicious and nutritious. Also, remember all the kiwi kids and old fogies who cannot dive, or afford all that flash gear you have: if you want to ban them from dredging then lets just ban everyone from catching scallops - especially all the commercial dredgers. Elitism is rife, and it doesn't suit you.
Watching your content grow mate, hope you get a successful career out of it. Well edited and a good watch. Manuka and kanuka looks the same, they often have little round seed pods but the saying 'manuka is mean, kanuka is nice' helps - manuka leaves prick your hands, kanuka is easy to grab. Cheers
Good day buddy! Just wanted to say me and my best friend both run the same reel as your rod and reel set up . They work great ! Any ways love the videos and happy hunting!!
Dang! So tasty looking! I read northern New Zealand is breeding grounds for great whites!?. Be careful or not a concern in your area? Great video! Thanks!
Awesome video mate. Only thing that would improve it is the sharing of your location 🤣🤣 Also, a good saying to remember when trying to differentiate between Manuka and Kanuka is "Manuka is mean, Kanuka is kind... meaning the little spiky leaves on Manuka are sharp, whereas Kanuka isn't as sharp 😉🤙
Not sure why people think your taking illegally, The east coast is all but closed but pretty much all of the west coast is open apart from the inner harbours. Another quality video, nice one! 👍
I used to just put a plastic bag over each arm and leg to help slide the wetsuit on. Or does that stuff you recommended help with chafe and stuff to does it ?
I’ve always thought that sharks would taste really good, but I was always under the impression that all sharks are illegal to hunt, isn’t that so ? Anyways - amazing video brother, love your content, great sceneries, looks like the perfect life - hunting and fishing and living off of the earth and sea, big thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ollie the God offer us everything to eat when we hungry, the law is for people who kill and sell in wrong way, good job uce, new Zealand the best place in the summer time 🤣🤣🤣 and the Pacific island.Samoa Tonga very nice 👍
Have deleted instagram now but can I just say, I fucken love watching your vids. Yeah, I’ve been taught the same saying but with just a slight adjustment
“Manuka is mean, Kanuka is kind”. Great piece of wisdom you’ve here though.

I swear you consider anything more than .3m as surgy and rough haha
I do too in my kayak. Only takes one small wave when you have a six inch draft. Im not keen on loosing all my gear
Great video Ollie. Just wanted to ask if there is much of a taste difference between the packhorse and red crays?
