- Exploring uninhabited Island off the coast of New Zealand hunting for the Elusive NZ Snapper (not so elusive in this spot!). Spearfishing, Freediving in incredible conditions with clean blue water.
We encounter good numbers of snapper with my dive buddy Stu knocking over his first 20 + pound Snapper!
Incredible day out!

Will be a few weeks David! been a bit busy lately. It will come..and it will be worth the wait!
I watch your videos for hours mate, best way to relax
What a phenomenal showcase of our beautiful waters once again Ollie, and who needs wall trophies when you're posting gold like this every time aye. Your video's are all of the highest quality totally befitting the content you're bringing to us. Its all superb mate - not just the footage itself but also your , commentary, editing and personality. Thanks so much.
Cheers Nick, Stoked that you're getting benefit and enjoyment! Appreciate your feedback. Thanks!
How lucky we are in Aotearoa, beautiful!! Vis is unreal. Good shit as always mate 🤙🏼
Cheers Kezz! Yep, it's just incredible here. Have to enjoy it as much as possible as it's not going to last if we continue with the corrupt Quota system currently in place.
The fact that you respected your Dive Buddies Boat Rule of "No Bananas on board" says your a Top Bloke !!. I know when going out on the water, You don't want to jinx anything. Good Job 👍
Haha Yeah mate, Got to respect other people especially if Bananas are involved and you are on their boat! Not an Issue on my boat though! Good luck I reckon! hahaha
Flat oceans and nice fish. Makes me look forward to jumping in tomorrow and hopefully getting something. Very addictive!!
Good luck out there Timothy!
awesome content man. have only been watching you for a short time . good to see more kiwi tubers showcasing our beautiful country. cheers

Thanks Dominic! Yep, was a pretty special day out, never had some much luck on the Snapper!
Great vid bro, couldn't help but notice ya mate wearing his weight belt below his bum haha
Haha yeah, his special technique. Apparently a few guys do it like that..? first I'd ever seen it
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit is it for better balance under water ;)?
@@ravenswing602 not sure, I think something to to with not moving around. Perhapsmm
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit yeah, diego from spearfishing thailand also told me to try that and it helped with the breath holding since its not pushing the lung
Great trip, thank you Ollie
Cheers Martin
Lovely as always
Thank you so much 😊
Blue skies, blue oceans what else can you ask for. Another awesome vid man. Cheers
That's it mate can't complain. Cheers!
Unreal Ollie. Living the dream. Any chance on including how you like to cook up the kaimoana bro

Thanks)
Wow, had no idea I was watching a reef hunter snapper clinic!
Haha, get lucky sometimes
Fished that island a few weeks ago for SFA. Nice to know there are some snaps around haha
I've heard it can be pretty hot or cold out there. It was only really fishy in once stretch of coast otherwise was pretty dead
yep I'm living in Melb Aust and Snapper is my fav fish. I tried fresh water Barramundi and mate I have discovered that I am NOT a fresh water baby. I miss Snapper soooo bad and watching this vlog has brought back a wave of delicious memories.
Yep Snapper are a great fish! Still a bit over rated here in my opinion but delicious none the less.
@@olliecraig-primalpursuit Mate try living without it for a while, I took it for granted until it was gone :) thanks for the reply
Sooo clear!!!!!!!
Yeah bro was awesome
Awesome vid as usual, with the wooden roller you should try loading the roller first then the kicker band, that way they are lined up
so beautiful there!
It really is!
NZ is like Spearfishing heaven. Not like down here in Victoria.
Not all of New Zealand! I do travel a bit to get to the good spots, but yeah, in general its pretty awesome!
Totally is heaven
Liked the second gun..is that one of Duncan's?
Great adventure!
No, it's NGB spearguns. Top quality
Good vid, thanks
Cheers!
Excellent stuff mate
Thanks Greg
Hey bud just found your channel recently good stuff
Cheers Mark!
Awsome catch🤙
8:45 Awesome POV shot.
Living the dream awesome mate watching from Australia lol
Cheer bro. Do my best ro get out there as much as possible!
Fabulous video once again Ollie...greatly appreciated. I noticed that you have a new roller gun. Did you make it? Or, is it a brand name of NZ. The rubber band setup had me intrigued. Take care. Happy and safe hunting over Easter. Cheers, Trev
Hey Trevor, cheers mate. I was just testing that gun out for a mate who is building roller guns here in NZ. Yes, it's a normal roller gun but with an extra 'kicker band' for extra power. Plenty of grunt for a little gun! Thanks Trev, have a good Easter too
great vid looked great spot for jds
Yep, Suprised I didn't see any! They were probably there just super camo as usual!
Living in the PacNW of the states, I envy you Kiwi's for the water clarity you appear to get on a regular basis... Curious as to typical water temps and thickness of suits you dive in?
It's not always so clear, but we definitely have some places which are clear often. temp in north island where I dive ranges from 14-15 degrees celsius in Winter to 22 degrees in summer. 5mm in winter is fine and 3mm in summer. South island gets a lot colder, need 7mm in Winter 5mm good in summer,
This is amazing Ollie!! How do you hold tight with the current? I find myself always been pushed out to deeper and have to swim 15 min back to the good spot found earlier
Maybe upgrade your fins? otherwise nothing you can do if current too strong, some spots you can only dive closer to the low or high tide when current not pushing so strongly
Some days the stars align
Yep, they sure do!
Rollerguns shooting low can be caused by the wishbone riding up the muzzle. This can be fixed by using an uneven double wishbone. Coatesman spearfishing recently made a video about it
Yeah I saw that video the day after diving here and made one up straight away
Let’s get it
When is the marlin video dropping
Few weeks yet, haven't had the time to even start bee too busy. It will come!
churr bro tu meke nz waters are so awesome
Cheers bro. Too true!
Incredible catch! Interesting to see either the kingy's are on or the snapper.
Yeah was bizzare, last time I was there was swarmed with Kingies..and that was in Winter! must have their feeding/migratory patterns which I need to figure out
FYI, bananas were deemed unwanted on long sea trips because they cause fruit n veg to ripen, scurvy was a killer..fresh fruit n veg saved lifes at sea..we release all our big snapper, and any needing a measure , and always the first..take enough for a feed.
Yep, known the history behind bananas, if I'm by myself I always take them out as great instant energy boost! Definetly only got enough for a feed, Me and Stu's family's ate well that week!
How do you identify the direction of the current on to a rock for example? A) for one breaking the surface and B) for a bombie under the surface. I find it difficult to identify the “pressure points”
A lot comes down to researching spots yourself. Ive had a few spots where the current moves in a different direction to the tide. DOn't get mixed up with swell and tide. I'm really no expert on the matter. Just got to get out there and learn your local spots
👌👌👌
What Gopro do you use? And what Res/Fps?
Hero 8 mate 2.7k
Did you get that marlin on film bro?
Yeah bro, will get Marlin vid up in a few weeks, lots to edit.
🐟🐟🐟🐠🐠🐡🦈👍👍👍🌞
Loving the videos bro .. be keen azz to tag along one day 🙌
Beauty
Cheers Yousef
How deep do I need to be able 2 dive bro
Not very deep here in New Zealand! I've shot plenty of fish from the surface snorkelling. BUt in general if you can dive down to 10m you will shoot most species
