Adjusting this trick to *arrest* motion is also the safest way to do stage combat with any large weapon. You do the snap, but use your body and braced arms to draw it up short of the target (in the ideal safety bubble). Aimed properly it looks friggin fantastic.
I have zero training and I started practicing a bit by myself before going to RUclips. I did notice that by using the left hand as leverage to make better cuts was much more easy. I thought I was doing something wrong but it's was actually Schnappen
Zwerchhau is probably my favourite longsword technique. Just looks so clean, and is definitely an effective technique. Damn, I need to really get myself into HEMA.
The coolest thing to me when I'm watching these videos and when stuff like this comes up and I realize that I am watching them teach me how to do things that I learned by accident while I was just playing around
This also brings a lot of speed into the duel, forces your opponent to match it or going on the defense, which enabled you to put the match in a position of your liking.
That technique reminds me of another technique that Is practiced in filipino martial arts, it’s called abaniko. It’s basically just what y’all did, but instead of crossing and uncrossing your arms, you twist your wrist back and forth since we usually use only one hand on our weapons.
Interesting how the meaning of a word can change. In today's German "schnappen" is closer in meaning to "to catch". But the idea of quick, sharp movements still applies. Although it's rarely ever used that way.
I think I found a use for reverse grip(even though it would have no advantage) blunt/ultra heavy weapons. Maces great axes clubs etc (would a bastard sword count?)
While swinging a pipe in double handed grip, if i cross then my arms tend to lock into each other. Am I just weak or is there a technique to uncrossing
Ask Seki Sensei did a video about crossing arms for attacking/blocking, demonstrating it is marginally slower than preventing your arms from crossing. Check it out, I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. It was put out a few days ago.
Depends. What Seki sensei was trying to say is don't lead the cut with your hands, and crossing the arms while cutting horizontal or upward do just that. On the other hand, crossing the arms while doing something like a zwer or verkehrer will not put the hands in harm's way.
Is there a way to practice this while homeless and without a longsword? Would love to defend my cardboard box, but lack the means to defeat the rodent overlords.
Sellsword is an old term for mercenary, so sellsword art means mercenary (one who fights for their living) arts (in the sense of martial arts, like HEMA)
I don't think zwerchau and krumphau are considered schnappen in the sources. Admittedly, I haven't read the untranslated originals of Meyer, or any other Lichtenauer school swords masters, only the english versions and modern German, so I guess I could be entirely wrong but..

I have difficulty taking him serious.
Because of those shorts.
Those Kirby shorts are awesome

Pro tip: wearing the Hunter X Hunter t-shirt buffs your Zwerchhau by 120%
And kirby shorts for extra 50% dexterity
thats broken
Oh shit that guy has a Hunter license
It seems German longsword also makes people speak the same. There’s an army coming…I can feel it…
I would love to be trained by someone as skilled as you.
Schnappen? Isn't that those drinks with the fact in the caps? Love those

Yes! I actually know a bit of FMA and am familiar with that technique. It is extremely similar
Krumping? Nah brah... Krumphau? Aaahhh yeah!

Schnappen concept to me is more of yielding to the opponent's pressure if it's to big and just go around it
Well that Schnappened

I have the feeling that the sword was filled with his nen 😂
Dude I will learn ur art lol sold

Actually by watchign this i know that works also in katana and very useful in defence and counter attacks .
I’m not a fencer and I used this all the time Whalen I was younger
Two reverse blades with plate armor 0n the arms might work ......

Ich bin schnappi 🐊
Bout to use schnappen to beat my little cousins in a lightsaber duel
This is in Plymouth near Napier Rd
Jesus is that a Sigi king, fuckin beautiful sword, great pick.
Edit: sigi, not krieger, my bad
I love how you don’t even try to pronounce the german terms
Nice pants
HunterXHunter shirt took all my attention, what was the hammer thing about?
I think I found a use for reverse grip(even though it would have no advantage) blunt/ultra heavy weapons. Maces great axes clubs etc (would a bastard sword count?)
Schnappen means catch
And people dare call the longsword slow, not elegant.. bah i say.. bah.
If people call my baby bad names, it be fighting words
Must be old german because in modern german schnappen translates to something like "to Grab"
It is old german, yes
The red handle sword where did y'all get it from ?
Have ypu seen video talking about your video from Let's ask Shogo?
Do you think great swords are well great?

Have anyone called the cops when you have the swords outside. 🤔

Why don't we have estocs or rappiers with a ball of metal in the middle of the blade?
You think those kirby shorts give a +5 schnappen?
Who makes that red gripped longsword?
That is the Sigi King.
It was a custom nylon wrap they put on for me
Whats the music?
Wish I spoke German
😂
What if you have one arm?
Then use it with one arm ?
Please teach me Zwerchhau
You forgot the most powerful German technique: GERMAN SHAME!!!!!!
Bro where does he live it looks way to similar to a back place in my neighborhood
Is there a way to practice this while homeless and without a longsword? Would love to defend my cardboard box, but lack the means to defeat the rodent overlords.
Use more bastard swords cuz why not
Why are all the powerful swordmanship techniques either Spanish or German?
You love saying zeerchhau and krumphau don’t you!
Sir I'm going to tell your p.o. you're playing w weapons 😂
Y didn't they just call it snapping?
Because that's old German word and people back then didn't use modern English ?
@@jaketheasianguy3307 it’s still current German 👍
Hey why are you guys called sells word arts if you guys do stuff with swords. Like you don't even sell one book or WORD
