When customer purchase ECM or other modules. I tell the customer. The modules MAY need to be programmed. The next question is. How much?$$ I tell them. That depends on the shop and their prices. I don't tell them the shop rates. Because of the price flucuations. I'm a DYI and have not tried programming modules since I don't have a pass thru device yet. I watch Dr. O programming. I know it cost $$ to get access to program and get access to wiring diagrams. For my own use. I use Alldata. Good night Ivan and thank you for dragging me along.
Tech2Win really emulates the legacy Tech 2. That procedure he did was literally updating his virtual Tech 2 the exact same way as if it was a real handheld tool. Don't bother trying to program modules with a clone Tech 2. Ivan already knows this. I used MDI direct from SPS and it worked great after major struggles with my clone Tech 2. I have a 4 part video series about this ...
Some of the stuff on aftermarket scan tools just does not work. Example, I tried programming a key on a Ford. The Launch I was using, the button and procedure was there to program it. BUT it did not work. I went into Ford programming and programmed it with no issues. Frustrating. The Ford programming cost $50 for 2 days, so I programmed the key at the same time I was flashing a trans on another car. BUT $50 if it was just that one key programming.
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics 2014 Ford Edge. Launch throttle would not do it. I have had issues with my old Launch 431pro trying to program a few keys as well. 2012 or so Dodge key fob that I can remember.
yeah, it's hard to make any conclusions when everything is on a CAN network like that; things can reset each other in weird ways. Or sometimes there is a hierarchy-- Like a Onstar module ties to the radio module, which first hooks into the BCM, which also passes through the gauge cluster before it ever gets to the ECM. So some will have some controls over the module below it; and for no obvious reason: and will be different from one company to the next. This CAN network is a little different in how everything has a passthrough, so they are all equally on the network- so it's a little different. But computers can glitch and still be fine when you reset them-- so you can't always trust it. Like Ivan said, make sure you can repeat the problem over and over, and then you can be certain.
Does Tech2 "three days" mean "72 hours starting NOW", or you can use it on three different days (today, Tuesday, and next Saturday), or ...? And if you needed it for one customer today, and another tomorrow, both covered by the same "three days", how would you pass the cost along to the customer? $65 each, because they both get the same $65 value? $32.50 each, splitting the cost equally?
I’m little confused about the VCIM AKA ONSTAR. All you did was put the fuse but that also disables GPSand Bluetooth operation? I need Bluetooth and gps so I’m not sure if the customer is aware or cares. He should have let you known the fuse was missing before it caused him money so bad on him. All the issues you have with this truck and more are slowly happening to my 2011 Tahoe LTZ OMG. I really enjoy watching your videos and your diagnostic approach. I left the dealership world in 2009 but these vehicles are impossible to repair without diagrams and scan tools. My truck has a 4 amp draw on the battery that comes on and then falls back to sleep after 1 hour and repeats. I’m leaning towards the BCM but there is no issues with the truck other than that no crazy lights or warnings come on but after 4 days the battery is dead. Gm had a technical bulletin for VCIM software problems but if I remove the Info fuse the drain is still present. UBEC AND body grounds all cleaned or replaced. If I remove the ip fuse box white connector with all the red & white tracer the draw goes away?
I may be done. All this new-fangled voodoo high-tech wizardry is immoral. Take me back to the pre-high-tech days. It wasn't THAT bad, and almost anyone could work on a car. The very idea (in this case) of having to pay over a hundred dollars to gain access to his own vehicle's software! Criminal! And that's after an $800 module! I may be moduled out. I love learning from you but it's really bringing me down.
This is no hi-tech, this is shitty-tech. There should be no scanner/pc/tool needed for this, all the tech needed is in the car. If it was not made by greedy bastards, the car would write "Detected replaced ESCM, recalibrate? [yes][no]", you would press some button on the dash and done. Advanced technology is not a problem, it's how it is used.

When the module gets installed does it require the air out of suspension system so it's at zero??? Must be something in installation process from manufacturer.....
You pay $65 to use Tech2 for a couple of days, then you need to charge for your time on top - out of curiosity, what would the GM dealer charge to calibrate / program that module?
@@NoWr2Run Yes, I saw he got one month, I was just curious what the dealers in the USA charge to carry out programming, there seems to be a huge variation in charges. I recently bought a new key for my Toyota from my local dealer and it cost me USD$ 52 for the key, it cost an additional USD$13 to get it programmed (Genuine Toyota at a Toyota main dealer) and I hear people in the US having to pay $400 for the same service!
@@richardgraham65 Yes, huge variations for sure. I just had a key made & programmed for a 2007 Ford by a mobile Locksmith, bill was $95.00 total. 2 different dealers wanted almost $300 & I had too take the car to them. I tipped the Mobile Guy $20.
@@NoWr2Run You got a good deal there! Nice you appreciated him with a tip. Such a variation between dealers too, some just want to rip you off for as much as possible and do not care about return business. I used a dealer in the city and he ripped me off 1st time for brake pads and a couple of ball joints, never ever use them again.
I'm pretty sure my module is bad. What happens if I just pop in a new one without programming? Still drivable? If it's just a warning light I'm cool with it I'm just having weird lights and other issues

I could see the flood of emotion on your face and the neurons firing those hormones. lol
What a relief when it's over
Correction. You just have to pay for the passtru which can be a few hundred to a thousand depending on the car.
Thanks for another great video! What a headache. When it says "remove all weight from the vehicle" does that include the tech? 300lbs could make a difference, no?
Gracias muy buen trabajo Caballero
meeen i've not seen the beached whale series yet i think am missing put, am pumped ... gonna buy some popcorn and watch it tomorrow night
Ivan I'll have to fire up my old Awfultel & double check it because I'm 99% certain I've done a trimset/recalibration on a 2010 GM(Holden) with it before it became a Paperweight! Knowing Autel they probably removed that functionality after glitches appeared in their Backwards Engineering process!
You are amazing ! If you're in western mass, I have a 08 Mdx I bought . Love to have you talk to it.☺
So, did leaving that fuse out for Telstar fix TCM comm. problem?
Do have a place that you know in southern California where I can take a 2020 suburban.
Replaced all OEM SUSPENSION PARTS and still doesn’t ride well, the only part that I didn’t replace is the module. But all the places that Ive taken it including the dealership don’t seem to know much about Magnaride sistem
That was really interesting, thanks .
Ivan did you need the spare wheel in place for the calibration?
GM could have found a better place to mount an $800 component inside the cabin. Bad GM, Bad GM! Go stand in the corner.
Thanks for sharing.
Before calibration: remove excess weight from vehicle...Think that was you Ivan ;)
I weigh as much as the missing spare tire 😂
I have a 07 can the module be programmed outside the vehicle b4 install? Or has to be on the vehicle for it to be programmed?
Wow. Cannot believe how clunky looking that Tech 2 software is. Reminds me of what old DOS software looked like. I guess if it still works and people pay for it, then why update the appearance?
What size bolts hold the module down?
When customer purchase ECM or other modules. I tell the customer. The modules MAY need to be programmed. The next question is. How much?$$
I tell them.
Do you think letting the air out of the rear air shocks and letting the truck redo itself would’ve done the same thing other than using the tech to?
What scan tool are you using?
@@mph5896 what year and model Ford? Usually ThinkTool does PATS pretty well
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics 2014 Ford Edge. Launch throttle would not do it.
I have had issues with my old Launch 431pro trying to program a few keys as well. 2012 or so Dodge key fob that I can remember.
We have a clone tech2 and it's pretty much worthless
Strange that an issue with the ESC would muck up the TCU that way and lead to a possible misdiagnosis.
TCU? ESC was an unrelated problem...
yeah, it's hard to make any conclusions when everything is on a CAN network like that; things can reset each other in weird ways.
At 19:45, do you ever think back and wonder whether you should of gotten out of the vehicle when it said on the screen remove all weight from the car?
I'm a lightweight...and this is a big Suburban haha
Any thoughts on a DIY J2534?
Does Tech2 "three days" mean "72 hours starting NOW", or you can use it on three different days (today, Tuesday, and next Saturday), or ...? And if you needed it for one customer today, and another tomorrow, both covered by the same "three days", how would you pass the cost along to the customer? $65 each, because they both get the same $65 value? $32.50 each, splitting the cost equally?
72 hours starting now.
@@mph5896 thank you
Got 2007 Yukon any ideas how I can takeoff the dash suspension warning after I took out the stock struts and shocks front and back?
God, they spared no expense on that DOS with graphics like interface...
Gives me the warm fuzzy feeling... When it works haha
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics I remember playing dos games, glide changed everything! :)
Awesome video !!
You lost me on that one, but it was interesting for sure!
Hey Bill, do you stand on your porch and yell at kids to get off your lawn?
@@adobedoug2564 It's true. I have become that guy. Gran Torino had two, count 'em, two, elctronic components: 1)AM radio, 2) condensor (capacitor) under the distributor cap.
amazing what it takes just to repair these over complicated stabilization systems, !'ll keep my simlple shocks and springs than u !, once again great job of taking the time to do the job right
Wow nice work ,
I guess a dealer would have been the right call for the fix.
Buffalo rocks !
Would the tools Pro not allow you to clone the old module and then reinstall it on the new module and code it
Great vid, could you pull the tip off the old module?
Tech too software main menu reminds me of windows when you have to use safe mode
It is possible to program this with TECH2 and not pay to GM server owners?
On older vehicle with comm issues I like to use the data bus diagnostic tool with the j2534 it’s accessible in the tech line connect home page where you launch tech 2 win, it will tell you voltage and if you have shorted can bus or bad module power, ground etc.
Hmm can't beat an oscilloscope though 😉
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics TRUTH

@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics I should have said if you didn’t have a pico.
Exceptional Series 👍.
Love your videos but no more multi-part ones for me. Thank you.
Then you will miss the really good ones 😅
Hi Ivan could that module have anything to do with the CAN bus peoblem as it was faulty
Great find and fix
the modern car appears to be way TOO complicated!
is that by design ...
or by accident?
When the module gets installed does it require the air out of suspension system so it's at zero??? Must be something in installation process from manufacturer.....
Wow. Thanks Ivan!
You pay $65 to use Tech2 for a couple of days, then you need to charge for your time on top - out of curiosity, what would the GM dealer charge to calibrate / program that module?
He actually got a month out of TECH 2 but I get what you are saying. A GM dealer " PROBABLY " would vary from shop too shop or what ever they want ?
Luckily my local Toyota dealer will not do any work on my truck unless absolutely necessary, so he gets return business now for almost 20 years. I used a dealer in the city and he ripped me off 1st time for brake pads and a couple of ball joints, never ever use them again.
Your videos are awesome Ivan!!
Manufacturers continue to put electronic gizmos in the most vulnerable places - under the car instead of the cabin.
Nice series. This programming stuff makes my hair turn grey. 😂😂
If I keep watching this channel, I WON'T HAVE NO HAIR OR BE ON MEDS. ?
I'm pretty sure my module is bad. What happens if I just pop in a new one without programming? Still drivable? If it's just a warning light I'm cool with it I'm just having weird lights and other issues
you will get a 'service suspension system' error message on the dash...ask me how I know
As if anyone really needs this complex suspension system.
Can't find the ride height controller on the car in my profile picture!
All the other vendors of the scan tools have to know that they do not have the ALC TRIMSET feature. It's probably an intellectual property or patented process and GM is not licensing it.
Could the Tech II have done the entire module software install?
It's just a way to squeeze another Benjamin out of ya.
Also about " CONTROL ".
Its seems like a scam. You have to pay for one program to calibrate the module and then pay for another one to clear codes. They get you coming and going.
Excellent!
Great content Ivan
you should do the trimset with you even out of the truck including computers as well according to message I belive
I compensated for the missing spare tire 😂
