This was absolutely amazing. I am going to have to change mine this weekend, and I think I can do it after watching this. Thank you so much.
Good diagnostic.. thanks
Thanks for the video.
Love your videos great job. Have same car same code but my reader is a cheapo $35 job but did the job and read the code. Replaced thermostat and erased code with reader and all is good. One question though? When you checked the connection line (the one to the heater on the thermostat) I wish you would have turned car on and took a voltage reading? I got about 20 volts at the connector. The male connector at the thermostat heater was the same as your 14.8 ohms for the new thermostat but had NO reading for the old one, so it was shorted. I would really like to know what causes these heaters to go? I replaced mine two years ago and it went poof again??? Thats two of them in two years? Thats should nt happen in only two years and 20,000 miles? I guess this is a common thing with sonics? Good thing I didnt go to the "Stealership" wow that would have cost$$$$ Now all is fixed I have to figure out "Why" on ideal there is only warm air blowing out of the blower but when I increase the rpm hot are floods out??? HMMM! Anyway thanks agin for you great videos much appreciated
Thanks for movie! I've replaced thermostat in my '08 C3 1.1 and I still have P0598. I have to check wires and plugs. Radiator is hot but yellow bottle with coolant is not warming up is it normal? Thanks
great video! would this affect the radiater fan from coming on? I have a 2012 and the fan does not come on...I checked the fuses and they were good.
It could, if the car is not getting warm enough to allow the fan to be commanded on. Turn the A/C on and see if the fan comes on. It should come on if the A/C is on.
Great video How long would you let the car run to reach optimum temperature and clear the code before driving?
Until the upper radiator hose gets warm.
Towards the end of the video, I saw you had difficulty on letting the thermostat open, the coolant temperature rises. You might not understand that the thermostat is dynamically controlled by ECU, if you had brought the (desired ETC, was 220F), and your ETC was as high as 200F, the ECU would not open the thermostat.
The Thermostat will open normally without any ECM command, all the ECM does is change the temps at which the thermostats will operate depending on load demands.
Replaced thermostat and both sensors. Now fan comes on immediately and same symptoms returned. Disconnected battery checked fuses with no luck. Any ideas?
What codes did you have before and what codes do you have now?
@@737mechanic po117, 119 now I have po111e, 116, 119
Code P0597 would you recommend just replacing the t stat? Or the whole housing?
Just the thermostat is all that is needed.
@@737mechanicSir my 2015 sonic is running fine with 86,000 miles on it , No coolent leaks , engine light came on took it to autozone and the code P0599 came up, they said I needed a whole new housing cause they didn't make the thermostat by itself but after seeing your video I know better , should I just get the T Stat like you just did or replace the whole thing . My P0599 code is reading the exact same thing yours did word for word any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@@davenstorm7271 I would replace the just the thermostat and heater.

@737mechanic This says it clears code P0597. I have a P0599 code would this still work ? And you said to replace thermostat and heater what do you mean by heater ?
@@davenstorm7271 The heater is the device that has the connector attached to it. It comes as an assembly with the thermostat. And yes it will clear a code P0599.
