This is exactly what I want when seeking for reviews, not fancy lighting and camera angles, just the product up close and thoughts of a human and not a sponsorship- filled script from corporate higher-ups, THANK YOU. Keep this philosophy for your future reviews.
I love how you pointed out how the controller shape affects your wrist alignment. I have wrist and hand issues due to RSI so this was really awesome to hear, thank you.
I'll just say right away Xbox has this down as it's based off of the Sega Genesis controller which many arcade Street fighter fans use I get that Sony was going for a more cleaner look with a spread out d-pad but not having that up and down left diagonal option really makes it hard to do combos unless you have big thumbs
I like the dpad position of the on the Xbox control more. Following your "wrist alignment" comment , because of controller shape, the position of the pad actually causes my thumb to be in an opened up position, opposed to being contracted towards my hand using the ps5 controller. As far as thumb pain, just get that guitar finger callus! Also the click in the pad has literarily helped me get through some really hard combos. It’s amazing
Yo I clicked the video looking for simply a controller comparison yet I'm experiencing the most elaborate controller ASMR ever. Great vid, I think I'll go with the Xbox controller because the analog sticks and the overall ergonomy is superior to the PS5 pad.
The Dualsense controller is just complete trash for me personally. The D-pad especially is a big downgrade for playing fighting games in my opinion. The old Dualshock 3 were awesome and Dualshock 4 D-pad was decent, but the DualSense is no good for me. I am getting a Xbox series X controller alongside an wireless adapter for lowest input lag. Mirosoft really outdid themselves when it comes to the D-pad so far. Your videos are great by the way!
The position of the dpad analog stick is purely preference. I mainly play fighting games and I personally think the position of the dpad on the xbox controller is way more natural than the ds5. I really dislike the position of the ds5 dpad as well as the whole dpad in general. The only thing I like about the ds5 is that it’s a lot more quiet. I got used to the ds5 but I feel like if sony simply created a dpad with 4 individual buttons, rather than one solid piece, then it would be much better.
I played a lot of Mortal Kombat on my PS5 controller and it always felt like a struggle inputing directional inputs on the d-pad. Unfortunately the d-pad broke for me, probably has something to do with the rubber peace on the inside. I am outright considering just getting an xbox controller
Really good video, well done. You could have also mentioned the spacing between the buttons on each controller. The PS buttons are further apart than Xbox, which is interesting.
In regards to primary input, I think that usage should be taken into consideration. It feels far more comfortable using a stick in the secondary input area (eg Sony) opposed to a d-pad (eg Microsoft). With that in mind I think that Sony produces a better balanced controller which is generally more comfortable to use more people, alas as you pointed out when discussing the d-pad, Sony's d-pad is vastly inferior to Microsoft's. My dream controller is an Xbox controller with a Sony layout. Great in-depth comparison mate. It was very detailed and you covered a lot of points that i'd never seen before such as the wrist angle. It's about time someone discuss this. Loved the video man. A++
Same I perfer the d-pad to be in the primary position since it's kinda akward to use it the secondary position. I don't mind the sticks being in the secondary position since they are raised up and easier to reach in the secondary position compaired to the d-pad. I also perfer the shape and pivot of the Series X d-pad
Yeah, I think the PlayStation controller is overall better(And I’ve been an Xbox fan my entire life lol), but their triggers are bad for FPS games, and I prefer the feel Xbox’s analog sticks(Sony’s positioning is great though). Though, PS5 controller looks like it tried to copy the Nintendo Pro controller(Those very broad sides where your palm would rest) and I just hate that. They should’ve stuck to their guns with the old PlayStation controllers’ comfortability.
@@Stryfe52 Actually Sony was copying.... themselves. :P Check out the original pre-DualShock PlayStation dual analogy controller. It has the long, broad handles, and inverted thumb pads. It was one of the best for the time, and I'm glad they finally went back to this so many years later.
Yeah I think it is just preference. I like the layout of Xbox controllers more but the quality feels worse than the Sony controllers. I grew up with PS1 with no thumb sticks so I got used to the N64 and PS1 joystick positions first over the Xbox controllers
i use my playstation controller for everything BUT fighting games. D-Pad will always be more precise and consistent for your inputs. The D-Pad on the series controller is just infinitely better than the ps controller in basically every way imaginable so there's almost no contest that you should use it for fighting games.
Don't throw away your X pad. Here is why: I might be a little late here, tho I feel like leaving a thought anyways: I started tekken since ps2 and never used xbox controller for fighting games. Here I am now on Series X, and I really don't understand all the hate about the X controller, I main Steve, I dived deeper into it, learned shiro combo on it, flicker cancel ws, korean backdash. I think after a week I thought to myself that it never felt so responsive before. It's just that you learn this dpad differently and when you catch the trick of it you really begin to appreciate it. For example: I'm a thumb player, so due to the fact that dpad is much closer to 1234 I was able to learn doublethumb guttling gun on steve, it was almost impossible on the dualshock Another thing is about korean backdash: I never press down actually, I place my thumb on the edge of Back and press it diagonally, you can't do that on ds pad, same thing for flicker cancel. I figured that my thumb actually moves less like 80% compared to DS controller. Another great thing is the curving of X dpad into the center, so back to forward or viceversa is an instant input for me as I just slide my thumb to slam the oposite side at lightning speed. (common thing on Steve with CC or intoflicker f3 or f4) There are so many tricks to this responsive masterpiece tech, just gotta give it some practice. Overall this comment is for everyone that reads these comments and thinks that X is trash, well it's not guys, give it some time and you'll love it. P.S. I'm not a Tekken god, tho I deffinitely see the advantages.
Great review) I prefer Xbox - mechanical d-pad must be best solution. Also for me, I think, it's more sturdy, when i squeeze pad in hands. I damaged DS4 pretty fast) You can test sticks precision in DOA6 photo mode - when you move just a little stick - good stick will move camera just a little too. Bad stick will have bigger movement step. For example, Logitech F310 has way worse stick compared to DS4.
alexander pierre I know this has nothing to do with controllers I played on PlayStation and it just doesn't feel the same as Xbox for Xbox it's easier to ignore a hate message or a voice message like when someone cusses you out in a party I don't take it seriously and it's a really good user experience where as the PlayStation it's like I feel bothered whenever people send me hate messages and it's just depressing and the user experience is bad and I personally don't like the straight analogue sticks but this is just my opinion if you prefer PlayStation go ahead and play it.
Also I think the xbox share feature should allow you to share 1 hour clips if I haven't said that already and they should definitely have a mic button but those are the only complaints I have the rest is perfect

Very throughout video. I had the Xbox elite controller and was quite disappointed with the xsx because it's much noisier and don't feel like an improvement at all. On the otherhand Sony like you said feels exciting and I like quiet but what you said about main input control is totally true. The stick in the Xbox are more suited for 3d games. I'm also concerned about reliability on the ps5 controller. My ps4 controller got bad really fast.
Yeah people get really trigger happy and press fast or really hard so I see the components in the triggers not lasting long. Also when you set the controller down on its back the weight of the controller rests on its triggers and handles. Over time that constant weight on the triggers could be bad for the triggers as well.
I want to play fighting game these days, I guess I have to change my tribe from PS user to XBox user. It seems Playstation doesn't really catter fighting gamers, that D-Pad is a no no (that internal component is still the same sh*t since PS1). And I don't really care about haptic feedback.

I've only used to for SF IV and Samurai Shodown but I'm sold on it being better than the dualsense and 8bitdo ones.
I sold my PS5 partly because I hate the Dualsense, the dpad is so bad compared to the DS4. You'd think they are exactly the same but I can reliably land inputs in Tekken 7 on DS4 but they drop on DSense. They did something stupid, the glossy material, the fact the surface is curved because I found no way to get consistent with it. I'm not a stick player but I can adapt when given one, the DSense though is hopeless. It such a slap in the face we can't use DS4 on PS5 games, the solution is right in my hands but eventually I'll be forced to use DSense because Sony is irrationally greedy. So I've dumped Playstation this gen.
I’m personally not a fan of the Xbox series x D pad. I play mortal kombat x and it is really slow and a hindrance from my experience. Makes run cancels more difficult then they need to be. I can best explain it as the d pad being too clicky. It just doesn’t respond quick enough for fast inputs. But that might just be my hands.
To me I always prefer the PlayStation controllers best for fighting games & sports. I prefer the Xbox Box 🎮controllers usually for 1st person shooters like Halo & Call of Duty games. Btw great comparison review, tnx!
Wen showing all the PlayStation controllers u missed out the og ps 1 analog controller, which shows the ps1 did have joysticks before the ps2 came along
The best PS5 and Xbox Series X/S controllers are the high-quality PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S arcade stick controllers and the third-party PS5 and Xbox Series X/S fight pad controllers.
Clicky Buttons yes, hard plastic clicky D pad is a BIG no, i have not found 1 hard plastic Clicky D pad that was even ok for fighting games, they are all Horrible, the best D pads for me is The Sega Saturn one, fallowed by the Ps Vita one, those were quality, try playing Street fighter on a Xbox one controller....my god. The Xbox controller for me is the most comfortable of them all, but those D pads are the worst ever. For every day gaming go with the Xbox controller, but don't even look at them for fighting games.
I too wish that those Sega dpads are on modern consoles. But you should give the new Xbox Series controller a shot if you haven't already done so. The dpad is very accurate on it in my opinion.
@@FrameCounting that one I did not try, I use the Xbox one controller on pc. I was hoping they would improve the D pad, they should just copy the 8bitdo Sega Saturn D pad and the Xbox controller would be perfect.
I agree The ps5 controller's face buttons feels mushy for me for responsiveness, I haven't tried the Series controller but I use my Xbox One S controller for fighting games and it feels much better and clickier. It's not a huge deal, but the Xbox controller's face buttons are bigger and more pronounced, it sticks out further and has a louder click/tap sound compared to the PS5 controller; I have smaller thumbs, it's much easier to cover and press two buttons at once (for light+medium button presses) and feel the responsiveness of the input. But the PS5 controller is also SUPER quiet, even the clacking of your thumbstick is way less quiet than the xbox controller (that thing goes CLACK CLACK) so at night, I always switch to my PS5 controller.
I’m not biased I have both consoles but tbh I’ll admit the ps5 controller looks sexy but the feeling of dual shock 5 just feels too hard in the hands and so big now I don’t like the feeling in my hands the controller been making me play Xbox now
I've been playing MK11 on the PS5 and I find that the d-pad buttons get "sticky" when warm. It's harder to do combos like Back/Left or Right by gliding my thumb over it, and eventually my thumb starts to hurt/burn from the rubbing. Whereas on my Elite series 2 controller the d-pad is soft and my thumb just glides over it, making it much easier to pull off some moves. Also doesn't hurt overtime .. I'll be skipping fighting games on my PS5 from now on for sure.
I don't see how. I played DragonBall fighterz using the D pad on the Xbox series X and the PS5. I have a lot of missed inputs using the Xbox controller and land the harder and longer combos on the PS5 controller with ease.
@@ayres1009that could have alot to do with the positioning of the dpads. But, the ps5 dpad is great for precision since the buttons are segregated but, soft
Honestly I really want to try the Xbox controller because I loved the Xbox one for fighting games so much that when I went to tournaments I just used a brooks converter for games. Ergonomically the dpad is where my thumb would lay out and has always been way more comfortable for inputs because of that which unlike what this yt says, my thumb is rested very well where the dpad is. My biggest gripe is that for the Xbox one at least. The port that you would connect the wire to, gets loose and then you just straight up lose connection. And it's a big deal because all fighting game tournaments are wired and since I'm using a converter I need it to always be connect and not lose connection at any point. I've lost tourney matches where it would just disconnect mid match. I duck tape a wire so it doesn't move. My question is will the control wire port fuck up like the Xbox one does? It's kinda a big issue for me
This is probably not relevant to you anymore but might be useful for someone. The Xbox One controller used Micro USB, which for whatever reason is historically vulnerable to breaking, and the port on the controller itself was quite exposed. PS4's Dualshock 4 used the same but the port was a little better protected. If you take the controller apart usually you can fix it, it's typically just a case of applying a little force to put the contacts back in place and making the contact tighter. As for the Xbox Series controller, the port is more solid, and it's USB C which is just a better design and more durable. But if problems arise they're similarly fixable generally.
This is Awesome, and be thing to note. The white color feels more fancy - get the white Xbox controller and you’ll see it’s better feel to touch and quality over the black. It always been like that with Xbox for some reason. For fighting games the Xbox controller is better, the new D PaD it’s so good - it almost feels like cheating because it’s very hard to miss an input - Which is great!
I guess it's a difference of the dye used to colour the plastics. The white plastic is probably just bleached to be pure white with a little dye thrown in (undyed plastic is usually off white). The black controller's plastic is probably mixed with dye so it changes the feel.
Great video! If we talk FIGHTING GAMES only, especially 2D and competitive: XBOX ONE SERIES X controller is the way to go. I had one for 3 years and sold it a couple of weeks ago. It's worth mentioning also that I used the thumb sticks A LOT and ZERO DRIFTING. The only problem I had was changing AA batteries too often and turning off rumble in other games to save some energy (making the controller feel "lifeless" in my hands). That said: the LB and RB buttons are too easy to break and once that happens, you better fix it by changing the whole piece (which is all the top plastic thing that includes LB, RB, and the middle). Now I have the DualSense controller and I can confirm it's way harder to get used to for 2D fighting games and a total risk if you're playing competitively. Tekken (a slower and complex 3D fighter) feels perfect... but MAN, I miss the clicky feedback when playing Guilty Gear! 1 of 10 times I'll miss a back-back, forward-forward or circle motion special moves. The D-Pad is a pain... but I guess it's a matter of practice and you can always use the left thumb stick for those commands. Talking about thumb sticks: they're the same. Only the rubber crowns are different and the DualSense ones feel...cheaper. Not enough time to talk about durability, though, but hopefully it lasts for long. P.S. For other games that support DualSense features... of course there's no comparison. Playing Signalis on Steam with full features is a whole more immersive experience with the DualSense. Also, having a pretty decent built-in battery makes me very happy.
Biggest issue with the ps5 controller is the rounded edges. I can ignore it after some play but fuck man I miss the DualShock form factor in terms of PlayStation controllers
I ordered an Xbox Series controller. I hope it lasts more than the Xbox One controller. I play Tekken and the Xbox One controller d-pad usually lasts around 4 months.
Thanks ..what do u think beetter in matter of precision of dpad... Xseries dpad or the old xbone dpad ??...I hit the like button ...I was waiting for this ...good job man
Xbox in every way EXCEPT the dpad is under the analog stick. The perfect controller is Xbox dpad but to the top left like a PS5 pad. Im seriously considering getting a scuf pro for just that reason alone
@@FrameCounting I bought the same fighting games for both systems to test them side by side and the dualaense D pad is a lot better in my opinion. The Xbox controller drops too many combos for me.
I remember having a debate with a guy years back about the PS4 and Xbox controller. I was right cause you literally said what I said. The Xbox has clicks like a keyboard. I was in defense mode for Sony but right.
My right thumb is shorter than my left thumb. I can fit the ps5 controller in my hands. Will the xbox controller be too large for my hands or no? Are the controllers roughly the same size? Nice video💚.
Finally! A review/comparison video that Actually feels like a full detail review/comparison! I feel safe knowing upgrading from a Xbox One controller to a Series X controller is really good idea! Specially if the thumb stick are much better! Keep up the great work and thank you!
I’m using a ps controller that’s shaped like an xbox controller its was all good until i started using it in fighting games it really hurts my left thumb with the small d pad
People who use analog are freaks. But fr I've always prefer the playstation controller when it comes to fighting games. I remember struggling to play sf with the Xbox 360 controller, I know they were trying to get an analog feel with the dpad but it didn't work for me. The Xbox one controller was also a pain for me. I wasn't efficient with the dpad and the razor sharp edges hurt my thumbs overtime. But this time I have hope for the new Xbox controller, the new dpad looks like it was made for me.
@@FrameCounting aight thanks buddy. Was thinking of buying a controller. Wanted to but the ds4 because familiar layout and gyro. I have never used this layout before (if you don't count the n64) but I will still consider it now
That analog stick logic is pretty dumb honestly. So you're saying that fps games don't priorities the thumbsticks because they are at the bottom? Of course not. The right thumb stick stays at the bottom because it allows for more free control of the thumbsticks for finer aiming. It's less comfortable but more presise. Which is why the left thumbstick on the PS5 controller will feel like you have better control.

Best thing to do is try both to see which one works better for you. There still isn't a perfect fightpad yet to this date.
I've had an xbox for a long time and usually thought xbox made better controllers but as soon as I saw the ps5 controller I knew I would like it more
To me I always prefer the PlayStation controllers best for fighting games & sports. I prefer the Xbox Box 🎮controllers usually for 1st person shooters like Halo & Call of Duty games. Btw great comparison review, tnx!
The PlayStation 4 controller is great. The ps5 controller is absolutely horrible
@@RUclipsrr285 which of the ds4 and xbox series x|s is better for fighters ? I have never used an asymetrical controller before (duno is ns4 counts)
This is the go to review and comparison. Great job.
Thank you my friend!
@@FrameCounting we need kong
Wen showing all the PlayStation controllers u missed out the og ps 1 analog controller, which shows the ps1 did have joysticks before the ps2 came along
Yeah, Xbox wins for me.
Thanks for your honest comparison
I thought it was just me going crazy trying to consistently do down back inputs on the ps5 d-pad, that space inbetween is so awkward for me
I agree The ps5 controller's face buttons feels mushy for me for responsiveness, I haven't tried the Series controller but I use my Xbox One S controller for fighting games and it feels much better and clickier.
I’m not biased I have both consoles but tbh I’ll admit the ps5 controller looks sexy but the feeling of dual shock 5 just feels too hard in the hands and so big now I don’t like the feeling in my hands the controller been making me play Xbox now
Agreed!
No hype or hate, just information, nice to see.
Any marvel players know if the Xbox d pad is good?
In my opinion, the xbox series dpad is one of the best on any controllers I've owned. And I've owned a lot.
You nailed it!
@@uppercutgrandma4425 everything you said was right except the buttons are not segregated on the PS5 pad. It’s one solid piece with a pivot point.
Do you know how you could mod your ps5 controller to have a better dpad?
PS5 for 2D, fighting games, 3rd person, xbox for shooters and racing games. Both for sports and rpg
Thanks for this video! Really appreciate your work
Only problem i have is that the d pad is under the analog stick. The ps5 looks much more comfortable if you use only the dpad.
Agreed
playstation dpads are so mushy i cant play with it for too long im gonna lose my mind
Agreed. It’s hard to have a feel with the PS5 dpad.
great vid ty
The Xbox controller is unusable for fighting games because the d-pad is only 4 direction. It's extremely hard to press diagonals on it.
This is Awesome, and be thing to note.
The white color feels more fancy - get the white Xbox controller and you’ll see it’s better feel to touch and quality over the black.
It always been like that with Xbox for some reason.
For fighting games the Xbox controller is better, the new D PaD it’s so good - it almost feels like cheating because it’s very hard to miss an input -
Which is great!
I guess it's a difference of the dye used to colour the plastics. The white plastic is probably just bleached to be pure white with a little dye thrown in (undyed plastic is usually off white). The black controller's plastic is probably mixed with dye so it changes the feel.
White gets dirty in no time.
So it sucks. Black is much better
Thumbstick tention is the best for me so I like them way more on ps5 but Ergonomic xbox is King for every Hand size out there.
Agreed!
2:03 wow if u ever need a side gig ,Elmer fudd voice acting will be perfect 👌
lol, I'm hunting wabbits.
@@FrameCounting 🤣👌
Biggest issue with the ps5 controller is the rounded edges. I can ignore it after some play but fuck man I miss the DualShock form factor in terms of PlayStation controllers
Can I use the joysticks to play fighting games?
I feel like the circular motions would be much easier
I do that for full circles.
I ordered an Xbox Series controller. I hope it lasts more than the Xbox One controller. I play Tekken and the Xbox One controller d-pad usually lasts around 4 months.
That’s my issue too, most disturbing inputs belongs to the supposedly most frequent ones i use, d/b and d/f :(
Going to get the x series one tomorrow
I have been play tekken7 for like 3 years on the same controller and my dpad is till workin normally
Great video. I will buy a Xbox Series Controller to play on PC.
Thanks ..what do u think beetter in matter of precision of dpad... Xseries dpad or the old xbone dpad ??...I hit the like button ...I was waiting for this ...good job man
If you wanna play fighting games, xbone d pad is the least d pad you'd want
For fighting games: ds5 d pad winner
I disagree, I have both systems and the xbox dpad is simply designed better. You'll encounter more input errors on the ps5 dpad.
lol ps4 has the same dpad layout as ps5
@@BamiCodm I never owned a ps4 so I wouldn't know. But, I know for experience that xbox's dpad is better in my opinion.
@@zigzagphx4535 PS4 dpad is trash, clunky and not durable. I’m going to try the Xbox controller on PC though.
I prefer the smaller dpad on the xbox personally
What's the song at the beginning? It sounds very familiar, but I can't place it. Is it in FFXIV?
It does sound like FF doesn't it? It's actually just one of those free music YT provides for videos. I forgot what the name was though.
No idea how I got here. Glad I did tho!
Xbox in every way EXCEPT the dpad is under the analog stick. The perfect controller is Xbox dpad but to the top left like a PS5 pad. Im seriously considering getting a scuf pro for just that reason alone
What a great Video. 😊
I like both controllers but the D pad for fighting games is absolutely terrible on the Xbox controller. It's very easy to have missed inputs.
I've had the opposite experience with the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers. The PS4 controller however worked very well for me.
@@FrameCounting I bought the same fighting games for both systems to test them side by side and the dualaense D pad is a lot better in my opinion. The Xbox controller drops too many combos for me.
I love your voice it's pretty hot
I remember having a debate with a guy years back about the PS4 and Xbox controller. I was right cause you literally said what I said. The Xbox has clicks like a keyboard. I was in defense mode for Sony but right.
Finally controller review that actually matters instead of those that focus too much on haptic feedback gimmick bs
Thanks bud!
Except that it's not bullshit. When you try it it'll blow you away.
@@musicimpact7120 meh it’s nothing special I’ve tried it people will forget about it in a couple of years it lowkey ruins your Gaming experience
Haptic feedback is not BS. I always use my dualsense for games that support haptics and adaptive triggers.
Great video, I personally go with the XboX controller as well
I have both consoles but I hate the d pad on the Xbox it’s so loud lol
It's very loud lol
can I use both when playing with friends? XD
Of course, give your friend the PS5 controller though. 😉
Le stick analog xbox serie marche super bien j'aurais jamais cru
Hello, can you make a review on the Flydigi Vader 3 ? It looks just like the x-series controller, but with two extra buttons.
jepp. playstation controllers suck. especially when you are used to the xbox ones for years.comfort, buttons, sturdiness, everything.
DualSense d-pad is made of 100 year old door hinges because it creaks and squeeks so hard
lol
Lol
Glad I got the backbone controller PlayStation edition it has ps5 look
My right thumb is shorter than my left thumb. I can fit the ps5 controller in my hands. Will the xbox controller be too large for my hands or no? Are the controllers roughly the same size? Nice video💚.
Xbox controller is smaller than the DualSense.
@@FrameCounting okay thank 🤗
Yeah but only the serios x but the one s the duelsence controller have the same size as the one s controller
Different is dpad
And analog
The Xbox controllers buttons are also closer together which I find makes things easier when trying to hit multiple buttons simultaneously
Is the dish-shaped D-pad on the Xbox Seriex X controller better than the one from Xbox One?
I prefer the Series controllers because it's lighter to press and more tactile.
I have a new born so I had to buy a ps5 control since im playing the hell outa Mortal Kombat 1 on my pc. Makes no noise. Starlight blue looks amazing
The Dualsense is really big for my skinny small hands. The DualShock 4 was better in that sense.
Dualshock 4 first gen controller D Pad is kinda bad too.
So I hope they fix the dpad in the next branch.
Probably won't. Even the V2 DualShock 4 controllers d-pads aren't very good. Sony designed D-pads are just bad for fighting games.
@@shabberplasm32 I have to disagree there decent for fighting games but there not the best and definitely not bad due to build quality
Anyone else drop inputs with the PS4 controller while playing mk11 I don't have any issues with Xbox x controller.
are the dpads mechanical or tactile?
This is addressed in the video.
I'm curious to know how do you feel about the Xbox D-pad against something like the Hori FC or Razer Raion
None of them are perfect. But the xbox dpad works the best for me. FC is usable. Raion is really bad for circular motions.
Is the xbox series x dpad durable ?
Yes, I've been using multiple Xbox Series controllers everyday for the last 6 months. No issues.
I’m being honest. The D-Pad on the PS5 controller sucks ass. It’s too stiff
It’s pretty bad…
