    There's actually an underground group of _keyboard_ users who only play each other so that they don't have to destroy everyone else in every tournament.

      I am a noob regarding fighting games, but having tested keyboard, fighting stick and controller got to say:
      With keyboard I never miss an input and can pull crazy combos as if I knew what I am doing lol
      Have a cheap controller so D pad is garbage and have to use the analog stick, works ok for the most part, but cant really forward dash reliably wich sucks.
      Fighting stick feels the best but cant really pull inputs as good as with keyboard, probably lack of practice but keyboard jad 0 practice and pulling inputs was a breeze.

      Playing with an arcade stick is so much more engaging and it helps keeping the arcade culture alive and even taking it further. Parts like the Sanwa JLF + OBSF and LS-32 + PS-14-G /GN have been around since the 80's and they still are great but now with the popularity of arcade sticks and fighting games there's a lot more mods and new models and new manufacturers that there's ever been. Although i don't feel the need to mod my sticks, every one has their own playstyle and everyone can find just the right parts.

    When I started sf5, I played on a pad and was losing constantly. The button layout on the pad was just too spread out and exhausting on my hand. I picked up a Mayflash and noticed an immediate improvement in my play. Eventually modded it with Sanwa parts, which made it feel even better. Now I play on a custom stick I built from a case I bought online. Have an LS 32 and Sanwa buttons in it. I will never play arcade games on a pad again. The stick feels too good, and the customization options are amazing.

      @@EDNOOOOO nice I actually ordered it and got to play with it for the first time a couple of nights ago. There's definitely going to be a learning curve for me. I was originally going to get the Drone and do the joystick and buttons swap, but then saw the Hori at amazon warehouse for a discount so it seemed worth it to just go this route instead cheaper, but then modding.
      That said, have you done any modding? I'm interested in an octogan gate. you mentioned how much easier the fireballs are for you, but for me, that's so far the hardest thing. I've seen some people say with the octagon, it gets easier.
      The other item I'm interested in modding is putting in the bat stick (?). I think that's what it's called. That resembles what the old arcade joysticks were like I believe.

      @@shahryarrizvi1 When doing motions with stick, focus on the beginning and the end directions. Eg quarter circle, press down, then round up and focus on pressing it forward. Do not ride the square gate all the way, you will get stuck on the diagonal. Relax your grip and wrist. Flow with the motion and be one with the joystick. Ok, that last bit is rubbish but you get my point lol.

I have an arcade stick, hitbox, and pad and enjoy playing them all because the real joy is getting to play fighting games, and like you said in the video, there are advantages and disadvantages for each. Big problem with pad, especially if you prefer to use older pads like the PlayStation 1 controller, is that once they start to go there's little you can do to fix them. Replacement membranes are hard to find, and even if you do all that's available are cheap Chinese knock-offs that feel completely wrong and are going to be even worse. Compare that to a stick, where you can easily get replacement buttons, sticks, and PCBs.

This helps avoid unintentional inputs and the mod only costs about $20 per controller if you install yourself. Maybe because I've used the playstation dpad since I was a kid, but it just feels faster doing motions on it compared to stick. Another thing that still feels awkward on stick is doing any motion that involves a jump. It feels like there's a lot of room for movement on the stick compared to a pad. I don't understand how pro players get such precise movement so well on stick. A few reasons I'd go for a hitbox now is maybe to not have to worry about desyncing a controller, and to also eliminate the possibility of lag from the bluetooth on DS4 (because you know.... that's the ONLY reason I'm not at Daigo's level...). Would like to try the brooks ps2 converter for ps4 to use a ps1 pad though.

    I grew up using a controller at home and playing in the arcades. I recently got a Fightstick for XB1 that I use for PS4 with a Brooks converter and it's soooo much fun. I have to "relearn" some games but I also found that I was doing moves that I wasn't doing with the controller.
    After modding my fightstick I LOVE IT and use it exclusively when playing fighting games.

    I got an arcade stick just to play fighting games, so I never really tried playing on pad seriously. I'm also putting together a hitbox right now, as well as a Korean style setup with a Crown lever as my Tekken stick.
    I think getting a fightstick is kind of like buying a new console or at least a major add-on, cuz it really changes the game and how you play. Like how you get a PSVR to play VR games, you get a fightstick for fighting games.
    And for splitting PS4 output to two displays, look for an HDMI splitter that does one input to two outputs (most HDMI splitters do the opposite, multiple inputs to one output). I haven't tried it personally, but if you get the right type of HDMI splitter it should work.

    • @JoystickNY
      @JoystickNY  5 лет назад

      Your right, getting an arcade stick can be expensive, it can cause more than the console, and for the hdmi splitter , it only allows you to do different input for 2 different consoles, like input 1 is your ps4, and then you can do input 2 as ur pc or xbox, i think ps4 it self doesnt allow it, i did alot of research back then and i couldnt find anything on that topic. And Thank you for dropping by ❤️🙏

      Sir Charles oh i think i seen that one before, i think it doesnt work, is for 1 system to 2 monitor, but you can only display 1 at a time, the other way is ps4 and xbox going to 1 monitor, but u have to switch to either display the xbox or ps4. But thank you for taking the time to research tho, i did alot of research my self back then, but i believe the playstation 4 it self doesnt allow dual output, it seems like it was a feature on ps3, not sure why they took it away on the 4, maybe to stop ilegal recording or displaying things i heard ❤️🙏

    My initial reason for buying an arcade stick was the retro vibe it gave off, as i was always a big fan of arcades but there were none in my area. I ended up buying one about 7 months ago, but didnt use it much, only when friends came over to play Tekken.
    But, since about 2 months ago, i ve been struggling with carpal tunnel on my right hand, and my arcade stick is actually one of the few things i can use my right hand on, that doesnt bring pain along. I couldnt use any other controller, draw, or use a mouse, but the stick was fine, since the buttons are so large and sensitive (hori hayabusa).
    Because of that, i ended up using it more and more, and now i've grown to love the feeling so much that i just refuse to play any fighting game on a pad (except from brawlhalla and super smash bros).
    I thought it was a bit too much money when i first looked at it (at least, for "just 1 controller") but now, i'm considering buying a second one! I'm so glad i actually bought a stick after all, and your content inspires me to play more!
    Keep up the good work and great content!

      Thank you for the comment and sharing your story, becareful with your hand, because long hours of play does bring a little bit of pain, when i play long hours, my right hand wrist hurts a bit. In my opinion, the stick is almost mandatory for SF games, due to the rotating motions of the D-Pad.
    However, the Hitbox offers more than a Pad or Keyboard for games like Mortal Kombat or anime fighters.
    Tekken being a 3D game requires quick access to side stepping, so I believe this is the only game where a Mixbox is king.

    The scenario on a controller where you charge back on pad and then forward on analogue to sonic boom is interesting. I've read a little bit of controversy around hitboxes needing hardware cleaners to ignore simultaneous opposing directional inputs or else they aren't allowed in tournaments. I understand it's EASIER to accomplish what you demonstrated with a hitbox instead, but why do the hitboxes seem to be throttled where controllers aren't?

    • @JoystickNY
      @JoystickNY  4 года назад +4

      James' Generic Game Channel Enjoy i think its because on a hitbox, your right hand can cover the attacks and directions; where as on the controller, i think its not very practical for your hand to be on analog and on the dpad at the same time, because 3 fingers are holding the controller already, so physically it extremely difficult to pull off on a controller, where as on a hitbox, you can lay 5 fingers on 5 fingers pretty easily

      Once you get to a point where you feel like you are very comfortable with the stick, and you can do it most combos most of the time, you can think about replacing the parts with sanwa parts. I think the stick is much easier to use, it can do a lot of things easier, and there is less limitations, on a pad, you have to constantly remap the button when you switch games and characters, which means training your muscles memory all over again, and also changing your brain memory, because this button for this game is here, now i switch character and games, this button is a diff button, alittle things like that can be a hassle for pros who plays many different games, and games are more complicated these days, which require more button combinations

    i have difficulty in every fighting game with dashing, the double forward or back motions don't feel natural to me. since i mainly play grapplers i get almost the same results with consistent inputs with either pad (i use the stick) or fight stick (used my friends before), i was wondering if any companies have an octo gate for pads (i have a problem with consistent crouch blocking as well) or if i should just get a stick because dashing seems much more natural using my whole hand... or just bite the bullet and get the hitbox for much faster games where air dashing is the main movement option?

    • @JoystickNY

      AfternoonConcession i think a regular stick will help, personally i will probably not use a hitbox, mainly because its not common enough yet, i like to be able to travel or go to any arcade in the world and be able to use anyones stick they hand me, or in the arcade, the chances of a hit box availble is very slim, if you know what i mean. But i would recommend trying a stick ❤️🙏

    You can connect the PS4 controller to the computer via USB Cable or Bluetooth, so if you own a fighting game on the computer and have a spare PS4 controller, you just have to connect the PS4 controller to the computer, and set the displays to duplicate. In case you have the game on the PS4, you would need an HDMI Splitter to connect the PS4 to the splitter, and connect both HDMI ports to two separate monitors, duplicating the displays.

    I've only started playing fighting games recently. I only have a pad, and I have two problems with it when I play Tekken.
    The 1st one is the 90° and 180° moves on the directions. Can't do moves like D, DF, F consistently enough. As you mentioned, it's easier to do on an arcade stick. But I guess with enough training I'll be able to master them.
    The 2nd one is something I rarely see mentioned. It's button combinations like square + circle. Tekken's Nina has one of those. I can't press them with my thumb simultaneously, so I rest my hand above them like I would do with a stick and use my fingers. It's something I've learned from another Tekken player. 😄
    Sorry if you've already mentioned it, and I missed it. I don't really know how KOF buttons are mapped on the dualshock, for example.
    Thanks for informative video 👍

      Heavy kick = O

      Yes, i would recommend using the Dpad, it is alot more accurate and faster response. If you use the analog, then give a joystick a stick, because u r pretty much using a mini version of it. If you consider using a pad, Dpad is the way to go if you want to improve 🕹👍🙏

    I think stick is better but only if you can sit in a up right poisons or have a small table in front of you. If you like laying back in a chair or couch PAD is superior
    Also stick is superior to leaning how to do inputs

  • @Iianization
    @Iianization 3 года назад

    One of my biggest hurdles with stick is double button imputs, their a lot more sensetive then on pad. You have to do a tapping motion instead of a pressing motion. After learning to tap instead of press it helped me with stick a ton.
    I come from Tekken so having a stick helps me move so much better and it was worth adapting.
    Also I heavily suggest getting one of the two cheap sticks this video mentioned, they are truly amazing for being affordable and dont believe you are gimping yourself just because of price.
    Pay for what you put in. If you put 50+ a week maybe get a more expensive stick but dont feel bad for rocking a cheaper one because youll quickly relize it will me your ol reliable if you change sticks.

    If you want to use your PS4 on 2 monitors you can just use an HDMI splitter. I had my PS4 on my TV and my PC monitor simultaniously, when I wanted to play the big screen, TV, and when I wanted the low input lag, PC monitor. If wanted the image on both I could, but I didn't really needed to.
    I checked some tests online before buying one and someone made the test and confirmed there was no added input lag. I didn't notice any input lag difference when my console was directly plugged on my monitor or when I was using the splitter.

    I'm a complete beginner but everything I've heard/read online personality makes me think. Do you need a fight stick to play? No. Will a stick make you better? No it will make you worse because you have to get used to it. "There are pro players that only use pads" Yeah but it still feels like the majority of pro players use sticks. I feel like they must give you some advantage over using pads than just comfort/nostalgia for the arcades. Just because some people are able to get good with pads doesn't mean every other new player should only limit themselves to playing with a pad never knowing if a stick is better suited to them. You don't know unless you try, I'd say get a budget one and try it out if you don't like it return it back to amazon or sell it on ebay instead of being stuck with some 300 dollar stick you don't like.
