I don't know if this was mentioned, but a lot of fight sticks have what's called a square restrictor gate. It's basically a piece of plastic that sits around y our joystick. The square ones are just that, square. It makes 360 inputs a little difficult to get off, especially during a match when you're having to react. These are easy to switch out for what I suggest, a octagonal restrictor gate. This has 8 directional slots instead of the 4 that a square gate has. Makes for a MUCH smoother SPD. Be warned though, having those little extra notches make it much easier for mistake inputs to happen.
I was pleasantly surprised to see 225 work in Ultra Street Fighter II on the Switch. First time I discovered the 225 was back in Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha!
Good tips. I would like to add two tips if I may: 1) If your opponent has just knocked you over and they are stupid enough to be standing close to you as you wake up then rise right up with a piledriver. It's one of the easiest and most low-risk opportunities! 2) On some editions of SF I have managed to pull off piledrivers after as little as a quarter circle motion - I kid you not. For example, I would accidentally get piledrivers when attempting to do the Banishing Flat.
I remembered watching Akira Oono from Hi Score Girl letting the stick go circa 270° to do a natural SPD. I thought it was an exaggeration. With this now I know it is possible, even in pad.
@@JoystickNY For real man I play on my neo geo arcade stick with a bunch of games due to a hacked os and I occasionally play R mika and Zangief on SFA3. Really big help man honestly
What a great back down. Been playing for years and been doing the jump method for the 360*2 and that is inconsistent .I appreciate you adding in the breakdown of the cheat availability as I thought SF4 waa 270 Also, I love the way you have the picture in picture in-camera.
@@JoystickNY Don't we all. A solid arcade cabinet or a diy cabenit would be amazing but im happy with the stick for now. You any good at KOF? Be amazing to execute those tough as hell combos on stick *hint hint for next video*
There are many videos on this topic, but this is the best one. I'm also interested in your setup, with the small screen on top of your fight stick. Is there a description of your setup anywhere?
Back in the 90s when I used to play SF2, one time I learned that Zangief's spinning piledriver could be performed by doing a reverse dragon, as I recall. So much easier than doing a full 360. As soon as I realised this I started playing Zangief for a change sometimes. One day shortly after, I was challenged by someone and I beat him. I was pretty happy to beat anyone using Zangief of all characters. I beat more and more people, and gradually a line formed. It was hilarious, no one could beat me that day.
@@tharickabras8520 That’s what I used to do, I was never able to do it using a full 360 movement, but by doing the reverse dragon I was able to pull it off every time, and with the suction of the spinning pile driver it seemed like cheating. Hope it works out for you.
Great video! World Heroes' Muscle Power got me into playing grapplers back in 93. I've always find the 360°/270° inputs more satisfying to pull off on arcade sticks. It was the 'tracing the gate of the lever' or half circle then (straight) up trick that always worked for me. But I get ridiculously frustrated when I try to pull off Raging Storm motions, and a few other notoriously hard motion inputs that SNK programmed for s**ts & giggles.
Nice! As a kid I could rarely get this input but had no issues with quarter circle. I play pad. I kinda fell out of fighting games for many years but Street Fighter 6 has me excited to jump back in. My motion input will be rusty lol. Really looking forward to try Chun-li since she has her Tensho back and it’s not a charge. She looks so fun … a lot of characters look fun too. I hope you do videos when it comes out because man your quality is fantastic!
Thank you 🙏❤️ it was an old ipad laying around at home, i figure i use it lol. I want to use it more, sometimes The angle doesnt fit and not enough room on the table
Learning how to do the spd was the only thing stopping me from playing Gief and now I do it like a boss. Thanks man. I love your vids keep them coming. Can you do a video on air spd. I suck at that.
Glad the video helped 😊👍 For Air spd; i do have a video on that, but kinda down in the list, basically do the same 225, but delay the button press, that should give u a air spd . Might need to work on the timing. And u have to start with back and the same 225 degree but delay the punch, let me know if it works if not, then wait for my video down the road 🙏❤️ Also, when you delAy the punch; u are basically pressing the punch kinda in the air. So u r completing the input after u jump
Hey there! Just wanna say that, your videos are very very entertaining, that I find myself repeating your videos over and over again, especially the arcade stick reviews😅 Just wanna ask, have you played King of Fighters? Would it be fine if I ask you to do a tutorial video, on how to play it effectively? Also, if you don't mind, play Terry Bogard, cause I'm having trouble with his Rising Tackle, which is a charge move, and it can be canceled to a super, which I find a bit hard. But anyways, keep up the great work, and stay awesome!👌
Thank you, i actually play alot of kof, mainly 98-2003, i stopped after 2003, i can definitely add that to my list of videos to make, but it may take me a long time becuz i have 100+ videos lined up so far. Which kof do you play? ❤️🙏
I didnt like 13 and 14 style, i feel kof should stay with in 2d, i always played kof growing up, i think kof fits 2D gameplay more, kof is a tough game to learn, but take your time, and just enjoy it. Thats the great thing about fighting game
I always found 360 motions weird because of directional buffering, and i always thought how can one input a standing 360 without jumping? I thought you had to trick the game by being fast enough to input both the command and the 3 jump directions without jumping. Thanks for the explanation!
You didn't mention this in the video but I think the reason the 225 or 270 works is because the input needed has to cover all 4 cardinal directions (e.g. right, down, left, up if going clockwise) and instead of needing to rotate the stick fully, you're taking the shortest route to get all 4 directions input by going only from forward around to up-back. This basically clicks all the necessary directions. So if you imagine doing this in numberpad notation, it's 632147 for games that are more lenient, and 6321478 for games that are stricter, where I'm guessing the 7 (or that up-back) isn't fully recognized as "up". But the overall point is that a true 360 degree rotation (632147896) is never needed because once you get the stick to "up" (either in the corner, or fully) that's enough.
That's interesting. I was just testing this in SF5 and I found out this is true. I tested this out starting from a jump animation. You can start in any of the 4 cardinal directions and it will work. So, if you start your input from UP and rotate clockwise, the final directional input should be LEFT (and vice-versa: start DOWN, rotate clockwise, finish RIGHT). I always thought you had to start the input either LEFT or RIGHT. This is awesome. I just found a way to do my 720 a bit easier for me thanks to this new insight :D So, I found this out a few months ago. In SF5, the 720 motion doesn't need to be completed in the same direction. You can do a 360 in one direction then reverse the direction for the extra 225 (total of 585, which hits all 4 cardinal directions TWICE). I was finding it so difficult not to accidentally jump when I'm doing 720s so I started experimenting and this worked, especially with buffering during light buttons because their animation finishes so fast :D Now I can make this even easier for myself. Now I don't have to start with a 360, I can start with a 270 (starting with UP input rotating downwards towards either LEFT or RIGHT), then reverse directions to finish the remaining 225 (total of 495 which still hits all 4 cardinal directions TWICE) in the opposite direction. Starting with an UP input is helping me avoid accidentally jumping at any stage of the input sequence since I only have to press UP once. Thanks Joe for that info :)
@@JoystickNY Nope. I tried it many times. I tried starting 180 input then reversing the rotation for another 180 and finishing it with the extra 45 and it doesn't work. The first 180 only hits 3 cardinal directions. Starting with a 225 doesn't work because you'll accidentally jump when it hits the diagonal UP direction. I needed to start with a 270 which requires an UP direction so I needed something extra (jump, dash, buttons or block stun) so I can start the sequence with an UP direction without accidentally jumping. So for example, during a dash, I input this: ↑ ↖ ← ↙ ↓ ↘ → ↘ ↓ ↙ ← (↖ + P)
@@victorwonder Nah, thank you dude, I didn't even think about how 720's would be made easier the way you explained. I'm just a casual player that's trying to learn some new tricks.
omg I started playing sfII since it was released in the arcade then I got it for snes and I never know you could do the spd with only a 270, thanks so much for this really great video it will be so much more easier now to play as grabbler characters, really strange though that when sfII first came to the arcade the move did not show a 3/4 circle on the cabinet instead of the full circle would of made it so much easier to do back then.
Once you understand how directional motion REALLY works in streetfighter you will be very good at motion inputs. When in doubt, always remember...DIRECTIONAL INPUTS ARE "STICKY". They probably last up at least 1200 millisecond before they are considered "pressed". Understanding this completely changed my game
Love all the content you do and can’t wait for more I did watch your videos are charge characters and made want to learn/play them more also grapplers as well Still trying to learn the arcade stick but these videos have helped so much and using the green highlight for the joystick motion is a great idea and also useful to players like me to see

Lol 700+ games with gief and just found thisi have to work so hard for spd but now im gonna train and just mine salt all day. Found out his secret taunt when he opens his arms wide and yells “come” which is solid.
I believe in SF4, you can do it w/ 270°. Nice to know it was reduced once again to 225° in SF5. I don't play grappler characters but this is an amazing tidbit to know 😁 Your content is getting better & better btw 👍🏽

@@JoystickNY this is so important to because sodom from alpha series and Leo from capcom fight evolution use this movement as well and I play those characters quite a bit
I never thought to go 225. I always thought to move around 360, you have made me change my mind.
Thank you for watching , happy to hear it help 🙏❤️
Thanks for the amazing video, SFIII Hugo, here i go!
Thank you so much 🙏❤️
That set up with the mini screens was pretty slick. Very stylish
Thank you, my poor mans set up 🙏
@@JoystickNY it honestly looks more genuine and I prefer the poor man’s setup over someone video editing the separate screens into one shot
great tutorial. This made it so much easier, and it does take out any extra inputs i was attempting. Thank you
Thank you
Awesome vid man! I can't wait to lab this. I've never played grapple characters due to the input barrier. I found the jump method and tried the dash method but after about 2 throws, my opponent would always know when I'm coming. But now! Heh, heh, heh let's check out championship edition Zangief again! I think there's gonna be some salty slams going down!
Surprise them lol, tick throw , tick 360 on them 🙏❤️ enjoy friend
@@JoystickNY heh heh I did! My best friend came over for our weekly couch session and he was so mad! 😂🤣 He uses a pad and I'm on a stick so normally he can't combo or do anything super quick and he just had no way to get outta those command throws! Thanks, Joystick NY, you're the man!!! I'VE upped my game exponentially since subbing to your channel. You definitively deserve more subs and views.
Thank you 🙏❤️ really happy to hear the videos are helping players grow, more videos to come 😊
@@JoystickNY Right on brother! Actually you inspired me to start my own channel, eh, someday soon. Right now I'm just gathering equipment but fingers crossed that by Christmas I'll put up my first video! Thanks a ton and maybe we'll collab one day😂. (Wishful thinking I know, but a boi can dream!) But I'll always site King Joystick as my inspiration. I've told all my friends that play fighters about you, so hopefully you got a couple new subs lol!
Thats awesome 🔥 go for it, the community needs more content creators, if you ever have questions, txt me in ig or twitter or fb, i am kinda new and learning too, but i ll answer them the best i can 👍
Man, I wish Ive learned this 25 years ago
Is never too late 😉👍🕹
Great tutorial vid. Thanks a million frm Delhi, India. My fav person Jangeef
Thank you so much for the support 🙏❤️
this is what i needed to see. jeez thanks. insanely useful, and practical video. 3
Thank you for sharing ♥️
thank you so much this is one of the best video's i seen in a long time, subbed and belled :) :)
Thank you, appreciate the support
I was pleasantly surprised to see 225 work in Ultra Street Fighter II on the Switch.
First time I discovered the 225 was back in Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha!
Thank you for sharing, appreciate you 🙏❤️
Good tips. I would like to add two tips if I may:
1) If your opponent has just knocked you over and they are stupid enough to be standing close to you as you wake up then rise right up with a piledriver. It's one of the easiest and most low-risk opportunities!
2) On some editions of SF I have managed to pull off piledrivers after as little as a quarter circle motion - I kid you not. For example, I would accidentally get piledrivers when attempting to do the Banishing Flat.
Great tips, thank you for sharing
Wish you do one for the ultra so glad I found the channel
Appreciate the support
Excellent video. The illustrations really helped.
Thank you for watching
I remembered watching Akira Oono from Hi Score Girl letting the stick go circa 270° to do a natural SPD. I thought it was an exaggeration.
With this now I know it is possible, even in pad.
Thank you for watching 🙏❤️
I am just a spectator of fighting games, the how-to information for SPD is presented well.
thank you for watching 🙏❤️
Thank you for this video I'm have been struggling to learn Zangief and I will be starting to do this training hopping that I learn
Glad it was helpful ♥️
I just bought a new qanba fight stick and I bought Capcom fighting collection thank you for the tip and I plan to use zangeif if he is in SF6
This was helpful. Especially when you mentioned the games that accepted 225-270 degree input
Thank you, happy to hear it helped ❤️🙏
@@JoystickNY For real man I play on my neo geo arcade stick with a bunch of games due to a hacked os and I occasionally play R mika and Zangief on SFA3. Really big help man honestly
What a great back down. Been playing for years and been doing the jump method for the 360*2 and that is inconsistent .I appreciate you adding in the breakdown of the cheat availability as I thought SF4 waa 270 Also, I love the way you have the picture in picture in-camera.
Thank you🙏❤️, so far thats my poor man’s setup, hopefully one day i can have a real set up
@@JoystickNY Don't we all. A solid arcade cabinet or a diy cabenit would be amazing but im happy with the stick for now. You any good at KOF? Be amazing to execute those tough as hell combos on stick *hint hint for next video*
I can 360 spd. But this video gave me the answer on how to air spd after a crush counter, thank you.
I am happy to hear the videos helps, thank you for watching 🙏❤️
There are many videos on this topic, but this is the best one.
I'm also interested in your setup, with the small screen on top of your fight stick. Is there a description of your setup anywhere?
Thanks man for the video!👍,now i will play with Zangief in street fighter 2 and alpha 3😁,greetings from Puerto Rico.
Thank you ❤️🙏
I just got a mayflash f300 too so this will be alot of fun to try thank you. You just earned a sub from me sir.
Thank you for the support ❤️🙏
Back in the 90s when I used to play SF2, one time I learned that Zangief's spinning piledriver could be performed by doing a reverse dragon, as I recall. So much easier than doing a full 360. As soon as I realised this I started playing Zangief for a change sometimes. One day shortly after, I was challenged by someone and I beat him. I was pretty happy to beat anyone using Zangief of all characters. I beat more and more people, and gradually a line formed. It was hilarious, no one could beat me that day.
Thank you for sharing ❤️😊 i miss those days , wish the arcade culture was still with us
What do you mean by reverse dragon?
@@tharickabras8520 like move the joystick the same as doing a dragon but in reverse
@@sidesw1pe So, If I do a reverse dragon punch motion, it will work for a piledriver input? I never heard of that, I'll try it sometime.
The older classic games were harder and require more strict inputs too, Thank you for sharing ❤️🙏
@@JoystickNY No problem, bro!
Thank you so much for the support, i will continue to make more videos
the use of the external monitor to show your face was very creative
Thank you 🙏❤️ it was an old ipad laying around at home, i figure i use it lol. I want to use it more, sometimes
The angle doesnt fit and not enough room on the table
These videos are extremely good. Subscribed.
thank you for the support 🙏❤️
Learning how to do the spd was the only thing stopping me from playing Gief and now I do it like a boss. Thanks man. I love your vids keep them coming. Can you do a video on air spd. I suck at that.
Glad the video helped 😊👍 For Air spd; i do have a video on that, but kinda down in the list, basically do the same 225, but delay the button press, that should give u a air spd . Might need to work on the timing. And u have to start with back and the same 225 degree but delay the punch, let me know if it works if not, then wait for my video down the road 🙏❤️
Also, when you delAy the punch; u are basically pressing the punch kinda in the air. So u r completing the input after u jump
I love this video! its so informative without much wasted time. thank you
Thank you for watching 🙏❤️
This helped so much!! A banger tip every minute of thus video
Thank you for watching 🙏❤️
You made it so easy to understand. Thank you.
thank you for watching 🙏❤️
Finaly a video i thought it was the end thanks so so so much very good work 😘 you're the best
Thank you 🙏❤️ i try to make as much as i can on my days off, i love creating and teaching games
Hey there! Just wanna say that, your videos are very very entertaining, that I find myself repeating your videos over and over again, especially the arcade stick reviews😅
Just wanna ask, have you played King of Fighters?
I'm playing Kof 2002 and 13. I'm just a newbie, and I still have a lot to learn about the game😅
I didnt like 13 and 14 style, i feel kof should stay with in 2d, i always played kof growing up, i think kof fits 2D gameplay more, kof is a tough game to learn, but take your time, and just enjoy it. Thats the great thing about fighting game
Amazing vídeo. Really helpful. I just wish you had a short entry about the 720s! Love your channel
I havent found it yet, when i do, i will make a video on it thank you for watching ❤️
I always found 360 motions weird because of directional buffering, and i always thought how can one input a standing 360 without jumping?
I thought you had to trick the game by being fast enough to input both the command and the 3 jump directions without jumping. Thanks for the explanation!
Thank you 🙏❤️ happy to help
Great explanation, thank you so much for sharing 🙏❤️ its always great to learn something new everyday
I just found a way to do my 720 a bit easier for me thanks to this new insight :D
So, I found this out a few months ago. In SF5, the 720 motion doesn't need to be completed in the same direction. You can do a 360 in one direction then reverse the direction for the extra 225 (total of 585, which hits all 4 cardinal directions TWICE). I was finding it so difficult not to accidentally jump when I'm doing 720s so I started experimenting and this worked, especially with buffering during light buttons because their animation finishes so fast :D
Now I can make this even easier for myself.
You were able to do a pure naked walking 720? With out adding anything extra?
@@JoystickNY Nope. I tried it many times. I tried starting 180 input then reversing the rotation for another 180 and finishing it with the extra 45 and it doesn't work. The first 180 only hits 3 cardinal directions. Starting with a 225 doesn't work because you'll accidentally jump when it hits the diagonal UP direction.
I needed to start with a 270 which requires an UP direction so I needed something extra (jump, dash, buttons or block stun) so I can start the sequence with an UP direction without accidentally jumping.
So for example, during a dash, I input this:
↑ ↖ ← ↙ ↓ ↘ → ↘ ↓ ↙ ← (↖ + P)
@@victorwonder Nah, thank you dude, I didn't even think about how 720's would be made easier the way you explained. I'm just a casual player that's trying to learn some new tricks.

I always did it on the ground doing a "semi circle" with the joystick - forward, forward-down, down, back-down, back, and then forward and punch.
Your channel is amazing! Extremely helpful. Thank you very much! Liked and subscribed.
Thank you so much for the support ❤️🙏
I used to do the 360 when jumping, right before landing. Sniping 360 before It was cool :)
Yup, me too 😊Thank you for watching 🙏❤️
Love your street fighter videos ❤️
Thank you for the support ❤️🙏
omg I started playing sfII since it was released in the arcade then I got it for snes and I never know you could do the spd with only a 270, thanks so much for this really great video it will be so much more easier now to play as grabbler characters, really strange though that when sfII first came to the arcade the move did not show a 3/4 circle on the cabinet instead of the full circle would of made it so much easier to do back then.
Thats a great point, thank you for watching 🙏❤️
Once you understand how directional motion REALLY works in streetfighter you will be very good at motion inputs. When in doubt, always remember...DIRECTIONAL INPUTS ARE "STICKY". They probably last up at least 1200 millisecond before they are considered "pressed". Understanding this completely changed my game
Great info 😊
Could you elaborate on that "sticky"? Does that apply on SF2?
Love all the content you do and can’t wait for more I did watch your videos are charge characters and made want to learn/play them more also grapplers as well
Still trying to learn the arcade stick but these videos have helped so much and using the green highlight for the joystick motion is a great idea and also useful to players like me to see
Happy to help , more to come in the future 🙏❤️
i was waiting for this video, thank you very much!
edit: what about the 720?
Great question, i dont think there is a real way to do the 720, i believe the best way is to use v skill and then quickly do a 720. I havent seen anyone else done it, i mean like actually show hand, monitor and everything.
ruclips.net/video/ISKfZgwRT4U/видео.html this guy is an execution beast
omg you're the best, i thought I was the dumbest person ever not being able to do this

I believe in SF4, you can do it w/ 270°. Nice to know it was reduced once again to 225° in SF5. I don't play grappler characters but this is an amazing tidbit to know 😁

Interesting! I'm not a zangief player, learned something new 225 today from you!
Possible to do another hard-to-use character, Menat video? Using pad if possible. :D
Btw, is playing using m.keyboard same as hitbox?
Its very similar, i havent try hitbox yet.but i can already tell i wont like it, if i have to choose; i rather go keyboard.
I can definitely add the video to my list; but it may take a while; cuz i have quite alot of videos lined up and my output is very slow due to full time job ❤️

After watching this video I can now do the zangief grab almost all the time I attempt it, great video dawg. But what about his Ultimate tho, it requires two 360s and I've seen some pro players do it without jumping 👀.
