Jack black was the best man for this movie . Peter Jackson did a great job getting the right man for this film . I bet Crichton and Spielberg said Jack black is like John hammond
I agree Jack Black did a good job in the role, he did capture the character's essence, but I think shady is an understatement. This Carl Denham was far more careless and apathetic than the 1933 version. Every death in the movie is indirectly his fault. He steals his company's equipment to go and film on Skull Island without first making sure it was safe, and gets around two dozen sailors and natives killed in ways more excruciating and painful than the 1933 rendition. Then after that, he brings King Kong to New York, resulting in more death and destruction, including of Kong himself. Unlike the original Carl Denham, this one showed no remorse of the loss of life he caused, and even asked one his friends to affirm to him it was not his fault. The character was a complete scumbag.
It’s hard to see Jack Black in this role because normally, he’s wacky and cheesy in the majority of his characters; but in this one, he’s calm and collected.
My thoughts exactly. The man has versatile acting chops. But his reputation with comedy roles has us all geared up to laugh at any movie he appears in, but this movie demands us to take his contribution seriously… he did a good job regardless.
Some actors can't get out of that 1 schtick they have like comedians, but Jack Black shows he can do it. And honestly props to Peter Jackson cause the character portrayal was believable from Jack. Imagine a Kevin Hart or Will Ferrell playing that part, lol.
@@ammagon4519 Would you take him seriously playing Mr. Denham? Still the best Kong movie. The story is unrivaled. There's romance, there's emotion, and tons of action. Peter Jackson made another work of art with this.

Jack Black nailed the role in this movie! I would have been entertained if King Kong was just about Denham trying to cobble together a movie at all costs while dodging demanding studio executives for the entire run time.
I would take this King Kong over monsterverse anytime. And not for nostalgia but the film was a serious and genuine remake of the 1933 classic. Not to mention Kong was an all out badass. Carl Denham thought Skull Island was a brilliant place to shoot a picture.
