  • Another great dive San Diego, CA. This spot is beginner-friendly with easy entry & exists and plenty of shallow reefs to explore. The visibility was great closer to shore but further out the visibility got a bit cloudy. I would say visibility was around 15ft closer to shore and 10ft further out toward the kelp paddies, with swells being around 1-2ft. We dove a couple times further out for some Yellowtail but no luck, but we harvested some Calico, Zebra Perch, Black Perch, Sargo, and Opaleye. Also during the dive we spotted some spiny lobsters.

    Last time I dove La Jolla cove, I came up from a dive in the kelp bed out in the middle, and there was a seal who lost his head to a tooth critter. With all the seals that hangout at Children's Pool you gotta be careful. 😉

    I dige near ny harbor to stay close to land, but i want to spear further out. Never been out of Seal rock. If its the right area that I observed a few days ago, then the kelp beds are like what? half a mile out? Pretty close.

    • @divespeareat
      @divespeareat  11 месяцев назад +1

      There is a nice cluster of kelp not too far from this spot. You will usually see smaller boats fishing the kelp cluster so be on the lookout when you are out there. I would suggest you bring a small float with a dive flag to let them know you are there. Dive safe!

      Hey Aaron! Well I could def say that diving in SoCal not as epic as diving in Hawaii. But there are plenty of decent spots to dive in SoCal. San Diego, Crystal Cove, Palos Verdes, and Redondo area have some good spots.
      I have a dive group I usually go with already and I don't have many open dive days where I can meet fellow divers. But please reach out to me via email and I can lyk when I have an open dive day. I would encourage you to get linked up with a spearfishing club, OC Spearos is a local one you can take a look at.

    • @divespeareat

      I think Opalaye gets a bad wrap. The fish is tasty when you do a simple fish fry or coat then fry. But, with that being said I would rather take Sheephead over Opaleye.
