Not to mention keeping all the juicy goodness with the fish and not intermixing with the coals. But hey, brilliant channel! Loooove it! Good work, plz keep it coming! 😁
First visit to your channel, Daniel. I really like your attitude to fishing for what you need NOT what you can. Great footage in the cold waters of Scotland. Thanks for sharing :-)
Many years ago I used to go up to Oban diving, which is lower down than where you are on the west coast of Scotland we would at the end of a deep dive have a second dive collect scallops a little butter and white wine in it's shell over heat you can't beat it. Oban is where the ferries leave to the Various islands a very interesting and beautiful part of Scotland would recommend a visit even if not diving.
Awesome vid! First time viewer, and now fan and subscriber. The footage was so clear, and those jumbo's were still hard to see, thanks for pointing them out, I live on Oahu and never seen them in the wild before, looks pretty deep, you got some good lungs my man. The grilled treasures had my mouth watering big time, what a nice dinner with that delicious looking fish too! The take what you need etiquette you displayed is pure gold, God bless you👍🍻

Wow can’t wait we’re moving to Aberdeen, been over the west to Isle of Skye Oban, ate all the fish we caught out the sea into the grill, absolute nosh of the day,
Anyone thinking of picking random spots in Scotland they haven't dived before needs to be aware that the tidal currents in places can be very strong whilst the surface water appears flat calm and inviting. Plenty of divers, kayakers, fishermen get into trouble where we stay.
Well... There are videos on yt about great whites off the west coast but no definite sightings. I suspect they are here after all the water is warmer here than it is in South Africa which is famous for great whites due to the seal colonies. We have about 40000 seals on the west coast so there is plenty of food for them.
@@DanielMann I spent many years diving commercially for scallops, all over the west coast of Scotland and Western isles, never saw or heard of great whites, but have rarely seen orcas, mako, thresher and basking sharks, although none showed any interest…..lots of humpback whales, pilot whales, northern bottle nose whales and dolphins and porpoise by the thousands!still wary of orcas though! I love cooking seafood in scallop shells. Unfortunately, living inland and NOT at the shore, I had to purchase mine in a specialty store and was horrified at the price for 8 half shells. They do make a lovely presentation, though.
I'm sure others have mentioned this, but you guys seem really professional as far as diving, so it was a real surprise to me to see that you didn't oil the grates on the grill before you placed the pollock on. One of the tastiest parts of a fish is it's skin. Now while I understand that taste is subjective, I doubt you would have left the skin on had you disliked it, and furthermore not only was some of the skin lost by sticking to the grates, but some of the flesh was lost as well. And considering you already made several comments about how small it was too begin with, you really didn't have a lot to play with as far as losing any of the good bits due to careless cooking. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the video. It's always great to watch divers five, catch, and even eat fresh sea life. I've noticed over the years watching these types of videos is that people who go out and expend energy collecting/capturing their own food and communing with nature are almost always good-natured people, with good attitudes, and constant smiles on their faces. I can really appreciate watching this as it's a positive experience to watch, especially for someone like me who is disabled and unable to do these types of things IRL. Thanks to you and your (wife?) for making and posting this video! It's always nice to get warm fuzzies while watching a video, so I appreciate the effort of you making and uploading this vid! ☺️ Take care. I will continue watching your channel and hopefully there are Many more vids like these! Liked and subbed! ♥️✌️
Enjoyed the video and as a Scot, I seriously miss the place. One small criticism, I don't recall you talking about scallop size, and I think some of the ones you collected looked a bit on the small side. When we dive in Northern Ireland we only pick the ones about the size of the larger part of the palm of your hand. Keep up the good work.
Hey. Im based in NI and beggining to spear. Im work in biodiversity conservation (skates and the like) so appreciate your comment regarding sizes etc. Are you still based here? Would be great to go together in the future.

Seasonings are only for seafood that doesn't have much flavor. For scallops all you use is butter or olive oil, garlic, salt and white pepper. Sometimes I flour them before pan-frying.
this is how I keep the fish from not sticking to the grill, I always use a clean to the metal grill and keep the grill of the bbq and cold and make sure the grill has lots of oil and put some on the fish too ,,,put the grill back into the bbq when ready to put fish on, so the fish don't stick and the oil don't burn off, but all and of,,,it looks amazing delicius, good job, I love the fact that you take what you need and not what you can.
