    good review ,but didnt include fuel consuption for the petrol,,,,,,but ,5.5 lt per 100k for the diesel is excellent, that is less than the cx5 diesel 2.2 lt 4cycl WOW especially with all that lovely torque

      Was thinking exactly the same. I bought a 2023 Hyundai Palisade Highlander diesal. Had it for about 4 months and did a Melbourne to Sydney road trip return. To date, the car is showing I'm averaging 11.8 litres per 100km

    Yes but I was expecting an actual comparison to the XC90 in the conclusion or verdict, where was it? Apart from that, I thought it was a decent review.

    As far as pricing is concerned a dual cab ute costs $80,000.00 nowadays.....and it's a ......ute!!

      You can throw in the Volkswagen Golf R at $80k(AUD) as well, and it's a hatchback which is absolutely hilarious at that price point.

      Au price is outrageous, it's $60k in Canada, Volvo XC90 is CA$30K more than CX-90 here.

    And at least the Mazda offers a diesel. Volvo still do in Europe & several other markets , but the last XC60/90 diesel variants arrived here in late 2021 . A shame that Volvo locally deleted them , as they were still relatively popular here. But it could be still possible to pop into your local Volvo dealer & order it as a special import. In saying that the CX 90 oiler will probably only account for between 5-10% of total CX 90 sales

      @@glennO-e9r people are still buying them . Our petrol is far dirtier than diesel. ULP 91 at 150 ppm sulfur, 95/98 is 50 ppm sulfur & diesel is 10 ppm . 91 will kill any PPF fitted vehicles & even a vehicle using 50ppm 95/98 will likely require a PPF replacement within the first few yrs of ownership. We have several diesels that are all DPF fitted & haven't had a single issue. One of our vehicles has done 720,000 km & it doesn't need its DPF replaced

      @@Coastmac2001 I work in the automotive industry and diesels are rubbish. They are constantly having issues with EGR coolers leaking, intercoolers splitting, turbo failures, oil leaks, boost pipes splitting, EGR valves clogging up. HP pump and injector failures, blocked DPF’s, failed reductant pumps and water/dirty fuel. But hey, you think they’re great!

    As KIA and HYUNDAI are discontinuing the 2.2 turbo diesel, it would the only reason i would consider the MAZDA as it offers the new Diesel. The price however is some $20.000.00 more than the Sorento or Sante Fe premium models offering no more in Value.

      ive had both kia and hyundi suv. and now have the top of the range CX5 in diesel and it is a far superior suv in every way,,,,,go drive them and see,,,cheers

      Considering the way their new diesel engines are set up. With access to all main components from the back of the engine requiring entire engine removal for any major repairs. Along with their horrible current diesel engine reputation i would not be in a rush.

      @@nebtriv but when would you need a major repair??,,diesels are very robust,,my cx5 drives like a sedan and on hyw drives it sits around 5.5lt per 100l 7.5 with a bit of country and city and its so comfortable ,lovely nappa leather ,,i admit its not as flash looking in the dash,,,but i dont want lots of colour variants of the dash i just need the info i need,,the bose stereo is magnificent and it is put together a bit better than the south koreans,,i really liked my kia sportage ,but with the kia top of the range and the mazda top of the range very similar in price ,,the advantage kia had is gone with the quality build and engineering of the mazda wins out for me

    EVs are not really the green future that everyone wants. It’s just a transposition of the carbon footprint from the automotive sector to the highly polluting battery metal mining industry. Where and how do you think all the lithium and nickel is extracted from the earth??

      @@zambacan That's called commiunism and restirction of trade. If the Government wishes to do that, they will need to repeal the laws the ACCC operates under in keeping the market open. It won't be as easy as they think it will be. There will be SIGNIFICANT resistance to that approach.

Unless the Australian Government does does get involved to rig the market, I don't think Australians will buy EV's (plug in only EV's) in large numbers because they are too expensive and they don't suit our lifestyles. I think there will always be a market for ICE vehicles.

      @@richo2501 there is a large increase in ev sales (eg Tesla was #3 in Australia in May sales) and they are getting cheaper. I think diesels 4wds will still be required for remote Africa Australia and Middle East. But just about every car maker is switching over to ev gradually.

    Mazda have never been a luxury brand, and as such $120,000+ Onroads is way too expensive. I expect the depreciation on this car to be massive.
    Volvo XC-90 is in my opinion a way better built car, with more class and style to it.
    Even the Hyundai Palisade Highlander is better, and that's $30,000 less to buy.

      How can you make those comparison if you've never been in the new Mazda, let alone drive one? Nothing wrong with a company wanting to dip their toes in the 'luxury' end. It's not exactly a sweet science adding more leather and what not

      And shat exactly is the gold standard that companies need to adhere to be deemed a luxury car?

      @Alby911 But Toyota does not charge a Ferrari price for thier 86's... the issue is that Mazda is trying to charge a luxury price for vehicles that are not luxury and no differentiated with their mass market products. They need to at least go through an effort to differentiate their products if they want to charge luxury prices - like Lexus, Genesis and Audi are doing. Hell even Infiniti and Acura are doing it, why isn't Mazda doing it? I know why - they are just lazy af and think the buyers will just pay whatever they are charged. I call that blind ignorance and arrogance.

      @@HaruHaruman - That's not the point I'm making with the Toyota 86; the point is where is the line drawn before something is called luxury or not? If we're being pragmatic, Rolls Royce defines what luxury truly is, but that doesn't mean you can't build 'cheaper' luxury cars.

    No touch screen in 2023? Very cheap effort for a luxury car. Now have to check every other feature to discover what else they have left out, that should be standard. What a pain.

    not a good time to buy a car unless you want to become a victim of extortion and price gouging, wait a year or two and try to make do with what youve got, this thing has so much to go wrong it will have issues very soon after ownership, 3 or 4 times dearer than a chineses offering

      @@zambacan They do...the guy who made that comment I bet has never ever driven an XC 90 long term 🤔 I owned 2 Mazda's over the years and they drive great, but when they wrong, they really go wrong. It's like they're built to last a certain time and then after that, boy they bite your wallet with multiple ongoing issues ☹️

      I owned an XC60 R Design... No end of issues and Volvo didnt care much. Got a Mazda CX8 Asaki now... Hasnt missed a beat.

    Yes its about WE wanting a straight 6 engine. Nobody is asking for piss weak 1.3 or 1.6 litre engines in large SUVs. If anything, we want performance V6's and V8's. Thats why id still choose the likes of an SQ5, GLC 43 or an X3 M40i.

      i think your thinking of the original diesel 2.2 ltr way back in the early 2010 models,,,all those problems were sorted out a long long time ago,,,i did a lot of research before i bought my cx5 diesel and its a dream to drive

      @@kmwan2011 Range Rover Sport means that you have to take the engine out to change the timing chain guide if it breaks or the chain breaks causing a catastrophic engine failure, the entire body needs to be lifted from the chassis . On the V8 turbo diesel you have to take the body off the chassis just to change the turbos , which is a common failure. While BMW have issues with having to drop the sub frame to get engines and gear boxes out it is nothing like
      taking the body off the chassis.

    Internal combustion engines are NOT GOING ANYWHERE..E.V have 1/3 RD THE range,go on fire,the fire is almost impossible to Extinguish...Petrol,and Diesel will not be Replaced!!

    I think Mazda executives are courageous but possibly foolish swimming against the tide and trying to reposition the brand. Risky business. It’s not a rugged 4wd, not euro luxury, not ev and not cheap. Personally its appealing but not enough to actually to buy one and I think my family is target market. (Everest on order.)

    I really like Mazda, I do (I drive one) but the way they position themselves with these crazy asking prices is just ridiculous. There are so many better alternatives out there in the likes of Genesis, Volvo and Lexus. Why the hell would you pay almost $120k for a Mazda???

      You realize a Genesis is just a Hyundai? And what exactly does Volvo and Lexus do at that price point that's so ground breaking? $100k doesn't sound as impressive as it once did

      @Alby911 Genesis is not a Hyundai. If your logic stands, Lexus is just a Toyoa, Audi is just a VW, Bentley is a VW and Rolls Royce is just a BMW. If Mazda wants to charge the buyers a luxury price for their vehicles, they need to provide a luxury offering.
      Are their vehicles luxury? They are nice but hell no.
      Do they provide a differentiated service? Nope.
      Are they a mass brand? Yes - so if you are in the market to spend $120k on a vehicle, which would be a minority, why would you want to spend it on a Mazda?
      At least Lexus and Genesis were diligent enough to establish separate brands and designs to differentiate from their mass branded products. Mazda is just being lazy af - same design, same tech and just polished up interior and charging these crazy money

      @@HaruHaruman - Genesis is made by Hyundai. End of story. Like I said what do those other cars do that's anything special in similar price bracket; $100k is nowhere near as impressive as you might think it is.
      There are varying degrees of Luxury just as there are varying degrees of power in sports cars. May as well bring in Rolls Royce into the topic if you truly want the ultimate definition of luxury.
      And unless you've experienced all these different type of cars, including the new Mazda; you're really just second guessing what Mazda is offering.

      Of course the cars overpriced nowadays. Due to parts shortage all of car brands price tag overpriced. Basically when you get a car you rip off.
      Only chinese brands price tag not overpriced. Thats way I consider to get chinese car.
      For example if covid not hit this car would be around $50k.
      And if I know that, I cant pay extra. Nonsense

    I think that even with economic headwinds and the high price, this Mazda will do ok for 3 years or so, however, the high pricing and the pivot to EVs will kill this vehicle off and I suspect along with Mazda. Mazda are betting on the move to EVs stalling or slowing down, so hybrids at least will get to keep interest in ICE cars alive. What I see is even more innovation in EVs, my view is that Mazda has made the wrong bet I doubt we will see a second gen CX90.

      It’s a brave move by Mazda to introduce these 2 sixes but because Australia has no real emission controls ( they are still at Euro 5 levels) I think it will probably do ok. It’s a lot of money for a Mazda though and the problems that have arisen in the CX60 after
      many different reviews , with ride, handling and noise issues plus a new auto which is far from smooth, will probably mean there will some unhappy owners. Overseas reports have been quite critical and the BMW X3 has been shown to be far superior on the road. Time will tell of course but it’s not my sort of car but if it was, I would be quite wary.

      @@asog88 It will take a long time… the real issue is if China, Europe and the USA move to EVs we will have the choice of EVs mostly and a limited number of very high priced ICE cars if we are lucky. Without our own industry we will be at the mercy of what is made overseas.

      mazda has already said that these current releases will be the last combustion engines they will produce ,,now it depends on what power source they will use in future cars,,time will tell...we will still have petrol and diesel here in oz for quite a few years yet,,,the elec infrastructure is rolling out slowly but surely,,its a big country after all ,,glad to see a straight 6 in aust again,,,especially the diesle,,,torque monster in the cx60..it flys

      @@GlowingTube There are many years of life left in ICs and many countries throughout he world have not announced a cessation date for sale of petrol/diesel cars, while some countries- Turkey - 2050; China 2035; Japan 2035; Indonesia 2050; Spain 2050; Mexico 2040; Italy 2035 are confident with sales of IC well into the future . There is plenty of life still in ICs whether they be fuelled by petrol or E fuels.
      I will be driving my lovely IC car well into the future .

    The 3rd row legroom sucks...practically puts the feet on the railing of the 'pushed' up 2nd row. Good only for babies honestly..there is literally no carpet space in 3rd row ..that should tell you everything.

    This is definitely not a luxury car in terms of build quality and technology. I can get German 7 seat EV cheaper than this car Mazda is Mazda brave attempt anyway

      its the same with most mazda,,its there carplay that is or you choose the mazda info screen and gps...so you have a choice to use either,,,works well with both,,
