Great to see peter playing in your video. He has recovered from being ill.. God bless him! He has so much to offer to us as listeners and student of this great form of art 🙂
This was fantastic! Everyone's playing was amazing. They each have such a unique approach. Peter is a friend and teacher of mine and he's just on another level to me. Some of my favorite players here. Thanks for sharing this, Chase.
Thanks Chase! Some really cool and interesting takes. I enjoyed most of them. Really love the “classic” melodic playing of Chris Whiteman. Nothing sounds “wrong” or out of place to my ear. His tone and technique are impeccable!
Billy Broom making legitimate music with the flat 9! Some lovey phrases, touch, tone and timing 👌🏿 Enjoying Will Brahm too. Smooth tone and a style to match. Hard to believe he’s getting that sound out of a Stratocaster ✌️ Camille Meza is ridiculous. Very fluent 😫 Thanks very much for putting this together, it will help me a lot 😊
Stephane was my favourite. He uses lots of elements that I try to incorporate myself in jazz, coming from metal, like the tritone, b9, rythmic displacement, etc.
So much great playing and content here. I love that you're curating these videos of all these amazing players showing and discussing what they're doing. Keep it coming
Broom!!! Every note out of his instrument is played with a beautiful tone and great intention, while at the same time being an exploration in harmonic and rhythmic discovery.
A tremendous group of musicians, with wonderful playing all round! I particularly enjoyed Peter Mazza's distinctive take, showing several levels of enriching the harmony of the classic blues form. His use of odd-numbered groupings gave a great tension-and-release effect to the harmonic rhythm too!
StephaneWrembel…you are wonderful..fantastique!….a breathe of fresh air…so complex yet so entertaining…magnifique!…so rhythmic…you are GREAT!…bravo…you made me smile and made me dance…Merci oh royalty of rhythm…Robert Ratti
The Gypsy Jazz take on it really caught my ear. All of them were great though! The biggest take away and inspiration was how personal and interpretive music can be. It reminds me to follow my ear and just play. Thanks for the video!
I'm 3 months late to this. 🔥Thanks what a great idea. Camila Meza. George Benson bettah check his 6. Bobby Broom wow. How can you say one is better than another or even "favorite". And of course Yotam and Sheryl both of whom I love ......
Shouldn't it be 12 guitar players playing the 12 bar blues? Here I did a quick little imperfect one to round us out. ruclips.net/video/vJnibujY87A/видео.htmlsi=UJhjeIKtoyyhQWsD
They were all tremendous, some I watched more than once. Rodney Jones was a great closer because he was so in the moment, looking for new creativity on the fly. Watching his fingers would not a great technique video make but does not matter. It felt hip, it felt cool a little ala GB. Maraming Salamat Chase. 🎵👍🏽
Every single one of them, is top notch, congratulations, personally, I really like Stephane Wrembel as a unique talent, in a peculiar sound style, with his note choices and structure, because even knowing that he uses so many notes, they don't sound scrambled, unpleasant, or with no correlation, or kind of out of sync like so many in jazz. Regardless that the guitar that he uses is not intended to be the cleanest, at that speed, he makes it sound very articulated. Chris Whiteman tone mellow and clean articulated notes, Mason Razavi relaxed tone and structure. Cheers
This video is fantastic, thank you very much Chase. All of them are very unique creative players, but my absolute favorite was Chris Whiteman. His playing exuded such a cool relaxed swing feel, presenting soulful melodic ideas which he enhanced by harmonizing various elements of the solo, and a beautiful, gorgeous tone. Wow.
I just love these guitar compilations you put together Chase! Try to get Ulf Wakinius on one of them ? So many great players out there makes me thankful I have a pretty good day job.
@ChaseMaddox You are the exact person and style I've been looking for to help with my chops. I've been in a guitar rut, playing the same old things over and over but your videos are SO inspiring to transcribe and learn more guitar vocabulary! 🎸 I'll be binge watching all your videos now!
Bobby Broom sounded fantastic too. Most of the players seem to gravitate towards a certain concept of "tradition", and in fact it's very hard to break this concept playing on a blues. But I think Bobby was able to break this.
Good but jazz blues musicians dont play the real blues. They play a 12 bar jazz with some 2 5 1 and 7 chords using to much scale and a few or no one band. Blues is STV, Guy, Winter etc. and most important: If you never use a slide you Will never play blues.
A lot of those blues guys don't use a slide, so by your logic they're also not blues? The point you're missing is this is referring to the 'blues' form and not the 'blues' genre.
When did B.B. use a slide? He will forever be the chairman of the blues. There is no such thing by the way as “real blues”. It is a unique expression of each player. Lightning, B.B., Stevie Ray, Muddy, Cray. They all played so very differently, but it was all the blues.
Which performance was most inspiring to you? What was the biggest takeaway that you learned about the blues from watching?
Always gotta go w/ Bobby Broom cuz he's so skilled and expressive w/ truly melodic playing that captivates the senses!
I was moving around bopping along with Chris Whiteman's blues quite a bit! All good though. Love these vids!
Can I contact you?
Yotam was the best!

Stephane was my favourite. He uses lots of elements that I try to incorporate myself in jazz, coming from metal, like the tritone, b9, rythmic displacement, etc.
Bobby broom is a genius level player and his teaching is exactly what i imagined it would be like -all the old school legends were like that
You can come study with him live in Chase’s Guitar Academy!

Glad you dug the video!
Never heard of Camila Meza, but I think she topped them all. Very fluid.
She’s great! 🤘
Fluid yes❤
Peter Mazza sounded like a Thelonious Monk composition! Amazing!
Thank you for watching! 🤘

Chris Whiteman... so good.
🤘🤘
So interesting how bobby broom grabs up under the upper strings with his fingers to anchor…never seen anyone do that.
Very observant!
Love the knowledge sharing here! So many approaches.
Absolutely! 🤘
Another awesome group of musicians to learn from 🙌
Yes they are! 🤘
The Gypsy Jazz take on it really caught my ear. All of them were great though! The biggest take away and inspiration was how personal and interpretive music can be. It reminds me to follow my ear and just play. Thanks for the video!
Great takeaway! Thanks for watching 🙏

She sure was! Thanks for watching! 🤘
