“Do it.” Hearing his master’s order, the Nue struck the slime with an acrobatic kick after some long and tedious math sessions that the Nue couldn’t bother to even remember. Only a single voice echoed in the newly created void thanks to the Nahobino’s brains and the demon companion’s brawn. The voice of Lucifer… *“An odd way to destroy Mandala’s shackles, but a respectable attempt nonetheless.”*
14:49 fun fact, the slight cut right here wasn’t actually made by Robin. I purposely made that cut because I had the new CoV spoiler demon in my party and I didn’t want him to get spoiled.
This is the reason Aramasa and Artemis's Astral Saintstike are really good, even in mid to late game. The fact that Aramasa hits 8 times and is super cheap just makes it great for fishing for crits. Astral Saintstrike even more since it hits 15 times. I think in my entire playthrough of base SMTV, I only ever saw Astral Saintstrike not get a single crit about 3 times, and I had Artemis in my party until the last zone.
Agrat is a crit machine because she rolls for crits 12 times per turn and not because she has a good crit rate. I mean you can make her also have a good crit rate and Queen's Decree basically turns into another "get a blinking turn for free" card
I have never seen a game with such crazy math equations that make my math brain go insane. Credits to you Robin for getting all this information to make these videos.
these are still tame. nocturne had some dumb shit in it (also on this channel) the formulas here at least make sense. yeah it looks big but its easy to decode.
Awesome video. I never watched any of the nocturne ones before so this is a really cool series. I played the original SMT V and now just got into vengeance. Loving it so far. And I’m the kind of person that loves to optimize these little things and be wild with strats so learning the behind the scenes is so satisfying. Can’t wait for the ailment video. I’m currently running a luck only build with my main strategy being toxic spray + a venom chaser which does absurd damage.
12:40 Small correction, unless i missed something Glasya checks if the attacker has +2 speed, not if he has +2 speed (unless of course he is the attacker)
I actually decided to do some more calculations, assuming that the game by some miracle forgets to apply the caps on the level correction and root among other things. The result was 4 010 097%, possibly enough to truly break the Mandala. If only the Slime enemy had only 1 luck this calculation would be truly accurate, but eh. Still, I thank this video for existing for allowing me to do math before school start again.
Yet again, Luck gets overshadowed, but hey, it’s still a factor! Looking forward to the Luck video, where we find it out it yet again gets overshadowed on its own doorstep lmao.
Thank you for this - I was going to dive into the code myself because it didn't make sense to me that my level 99 naho with 183str using +9 Murakumo on a level 1 slime is doing like 6k damage with omagatoki crit - I just want the achievement. lol Edit: These videos* not this. this was just for crit, i watched the damage one too.
On my first playthrough of vengeance. I evened out luck and strength to 153 in each stat. Im running around criting everyone in half with the glee moves and zealot plus murakumo. In base V the glee moves felt next to useless so it’s good they work a lot better here.
Math is so wild and weird in SMT. And finding out who the crit god is insane and wild. I almost wanna go full on crit build cause that sounds goofy now.
This video makes me want to cook up a build with Lahmu [Ice focused]; Good Boy [Wind Focused]; Nahobino [Lightning focused] and some Fire demon [who swaps out for healer], give each their peirceing spell; and make a magic crit team just to see how effective this is endgame. You can go solo elemental freeing up slots for Glees and Peloromas with Peirceing. But my challenge run first.
on a second watch im doing with a friend right now i noticed something. Its interesting that crit rate has level correction in all fights, while damage ignores level correction in every scripted fight in the game. I can fully see why, but its still an interesting observation assuming of course robin didnt just forget something in the script)
need video on rolling for initiative. what's the chance you go first in combat vs enemy, even hitting them from behind doesn't guarantee going first and lots of times enemies will go first which makes it so dangerous to initiate with low sp or against enemies with lots of status fx.
Question about Level Correction in the crit formula, is the value just 1 if both combatants are the same level (For example, both attacker and defender being 150 on Godborn)
Yes; I suppose I could’ve been clearer there. That would use the first formula; which does give a result of 1.0: = 1 - ((√(0-0)/60)+(0-0)/120) = 1 - ((√(0)/60)+0/120) = 1 - ((0/60)+0) = 1 - (0) = 1
i hate virtual trainer challenge bosses you can't crit to save your life without figment slash, even nue with xiezhai in party only crits sometimes due to the high luck stats of the enemies
.... damn. a freind of mine wanted to use agrat and i almost gave him a perfect setup. just with the fusion calc and no idea how crit rate works. dang.

Isn't crit damage more important? I have a level 99 Nue so I thought this video was cool :) His crit rate is very high, but I've been looking for ways to improve Abdiel & Nue's damage output
overall once you can hit 100% crit rate crit damage is all that matters. this counts for any game not just smt vv. so yeah on a gameplay level anything >100% crit rate is literally worthless but its still funny.
I was just building a Nue to use myself, I thought it would be the perfect demon to use skills like Akashic Arts, problem is that I don’t know wether to remove Brave Blade, Madness Nails or High Restore from it to make room for Bloody Glee. You could argue that Madness Nails is the easy pick here but it’s the only sort of AOE Nue has and can deal a bunch of damage with Omagatoki Dance. High Restore objectively does nothing for my crit rate either but Nue doesn’t exactly have a large MP pool and has low Phys affinity by default which only makes every skill more expensive to use. If so it’d come down to either removing Brave Blade or Akashic Arts itself, but it’s hard to say which has higher average damage for Nue. I’d love it if I could get some pointers here because I’m terrible at math myself.
funnily enough madness nails is the best skill if we ignore crit rate for a sec and just look at the damage brave blade is weak sauce and its advantage is just the crit rate akashic arts is 350 when crit but madness nails, if it were a single target you fight, is 370 WITHOUT needing a crit. and with multiple targets it just is more since while each individual target only gets hit by the minimum ammount of hits with more targets the 4 hits of 165 could potentially all find a mark. the github helps alot with numbers on this cause atlus are cowards and wont give them to us directly. but the game is on pc now and was datamined within like a month tops.
As a Monk Player, I can assure you I'd have the greatest crit chance of my party given the number of attacks I do in my turn... ... If it wasn't for my bad irl luck. I have rolled the most Nat1s in my group by far. Luck is a two-way street, it seems.

yeah if you read the glees you would think they boost ALL crit rate, not just the base crit rate. before learning that i also thought that brave blade + glees is basically a garunteed crit.

Oblivion? Morrowind? DW1? You not played games at all then. SMT math have space learn spells formulas in those games, even they not same.
tbh in most games we also just dont look at the math. i imagine there are alot of games with some stupid, stupid math in it
