In this video I'll talk about my initial thoughts of this camera and what I love & don’t love about what Canon announced. Let me know what you think and if you think I missed anything. Thanks for watching! Make sure to have a watch of my review of the Mark II & if you want to see even more from this camera, feel free to check out my 2018 & 2019 Showreel. Links in the description!
Great video mate! Really good breakdown of all the features - best early review I've seen on this camera. Personally, I think the list of pros is soooo long that it makes this a serious upgrade on the mk2: C-Log, improved Codecs, dual proxy recording, RAW video, focus peaking, stabilisation, sharper 120p with low pass filter, built-in wifi (at last!), same battery, the list goes on! Plus this will fit like a glove into my Aquatech Housing. I'm just a little gutted it's CFExpress having just picked up 4 256GB ProGrade CFast cards but I guess you'll need to 1000MB/s write speeds for RAW video. I'm at a stage where I need a second video body for commercial work so this is a very strong contender but, like you, I won't be upgrading any time soon (he says....).
Hey Sam. Thanks for the comment! Thank you so much, and yeah I agree, overall I’m really happy with the video & photos features of this update. I’ll upgrade as soon as I can, but won’t be paying the £6.5k. No way, I’m wait for one grey market or used
@@VideoCameron Yeah I was thinking of similar price range...will you keep Mk2 as a second body? I need two cameras that compare in terms of quality and image so I can seamless match footage, ideally full frame, so I'm super tempted. C500ii a little out of my price range for now haha
Thanks for talking about the stuff I care about (not pro sports) for this camera. Personally the EF mount doesn't bother me as I like the glass currently available incl. the cine primes. What price would you consider this worth switching to from the MKII? Buying it in the US on holiday at $6500 is only £100GBP more than the Sony A9ii (not a video cam but comparable), I'm pretty tempted!
Hey James, thanks for the comment! Yeah i'm not too bother about not having the RF mount but at least if we did we would have the option of the EF mount also. For video I think we're going to be fine for a while but the 3 new canon zoom lenses & their 50mm 1.2 do look quite incredible. I think i'll buy the Mark III when I can find it for around £4000. Hopefully once the grey market imports come in, the price will be something simular. I'm sure the A9 or whatever Sony bring next will be great, But I've just found that Canon is right for me!
There is a big rumor about EOSR-S, and I think CANON Will go Full RF mount in the future, man I mean you see the Canon EOS R Photos is soooo sharp because the glass is so close to the sensor
I don't know a single photographer who is disappointed that the camera is an EF mount. We tend to have lots of EF lenses already and few to none RF mounts. CFExpress cards will come down in price. Nikon D6 will use this format too, and as more cameras come online that use it, demand will increase and costs will reduce. I actually own the 1D X mkIII, so am speaking from experience.
Video Cameron no time lapse unfortunately but it does have an intervalometer according to BH photo and the canon white papers for the camera. Check canonrumors.com for the link to the white papers with detailed specs
The camera does have a gigabit Ethernet port. I think it can be powered over Ethernet. Could you please confirm it when you get your hands on one? That would be super helpful.
@@VideoCameron According to the IEEE 802.bt type 4 standard, a category 8 cable would be able to deliver up to 100W of energy. The battery used in this camera is LP-E19 which only outputs 29.1Wh. Theoretically, it should be possible to power the camera with type-4 cables. Now, whether Canon has a restriction on this is something we have to wait and see. Thanks for taking your time to reply!
@@VideoCameron www.canonrumors.com/files/Canon_EOS_1DX_Mark_III_Video_White_Paper.pdf not according to this, check out 3.3 pg eight. Maybe the LOG format does open up those two stops but theres nothing to confirm that and Canon hasnt responded on their channel so I think its still capped at 12 to not hurt their cinema line.
Karim A. The ability to carry one camera and quickly change between photo & video is a must for me. I wouldn’t bring two cameras with me in most scenarios. The video features of this camera far exceed most over video cameras anyway!

@@VideoCameron Thanks man. Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Got my 1DX MK2 for £3.6k 3 years ago...much more manageable haha
Sam Gillespie if I find one for like £4000 I’ll do it. Maybe £4500 at a push

Nice review...thanks for sharing. Are the CF Express slots backward compatible to XQD?
thanks very much! I have no idea, i very much doubt it. Although they are both Sony made, so maybe?
Excellent job man! keep it up 👊🏻

Great video! So crazy to see Canon cram so many features into this camera!
David Lopez exactly my thoughts

I would love an EOS R with these features. You should even take the 6K video and mad still framerates away and i'd still be happy
Great work again 🙌 looking forward to seeing some footage from it 😊
Thanks man!
Magnificent voice! Good luck, great stuff

Fair play, well yeah I’m pretty a happy with the specs of the mark 3 but I wouldn’t have a problem with the RF mount
Great preview thanks for sharing. It actually does have an intervalometer though.
Griffin Conway ah okay, I didn’t see that! Does it do timelapse video?
Video Cameron no time lapse unfortunately but it does have an intervalometer according to BH photo and the canon white papers for the camera. Check canonrumors.com for the link to the white papers with detailed specs
@@GriffinConway Great, do you know if I shoot in viewview, does that add to the shutter count?
When is the full review coming?
In a couple of weeks, I should have it finished for Christmas

Sushil Janardhan that would be cool but highly doubt it. I know Ethernet can carry power but not enough to power this camera

awesome review!
Tyler Edwards thanks Tyler. Great channel by the way, subbed
What are the best lenses can be applied to that camera for *high* bokeh and for portraits
Mohammad Hussain I really like the sigma art lenses. 85mm will do the job
I GOT MY 1DX II OVER THE MOON ...YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOUR RATES ALL DAY SHOOT
Canon Should send you one I think that they never see the mark 2 review , you r the best camera review ever, and great video by the way
Haha cheers! Perhaps I can convince them to send me the Mark 4 in 2024.
Video Cameron you really Deserve it Bro
May i ask - can it shoot 1080p - 10 bit 422 internally video If yes - this could be amazing i guess?
I believe so yes, all the resolutions that can do clog is 10 bit
Best review of the 1dx mark 3 !!!!! wow !!!!!
Thank you very much! I'm excited to get my hands on the camera for a real review
Excellent Honest Information....
Thank you!
great video!!!
Thanks Justin!
Also still has a limited DR compared to other cameras on the market at much lower prices...
It has 14 stops of DR doesn't it? I As far as I'm aware, that's one of the best

Why do you need a photographer camera to shoot a video? Buy a video camera to that. Photographer cameras are for photographers not videographers.
