  • If you follow me on Instagram, you'd know that I recently picked up the new Canon 1DX Mark III. It was a hefty and long thought out processed before I decided to go for it. I wanted to share a bit of why I chose to buy the camera as well as a couple of things you should be considering before upgrading your equipment.
    If you are looking for some reasons like it shoots 5.5k Raw or 120 slow-motion, this is not the video. This isn't even a technical look at the camera. This is coming from the perspective of someone who shoots close to everyday on actual paid jobs. Most of the reasons listed are more practical than anything.
    Also, this is one a few long discussion based videos that I am planning to upload in the near future. I love how many channels are teaching people about photography and filmmaking but not many have discussion based videos. I understand these can be very long so feel free to let it play in the back while you carrying on your daily activities!

    Speaking of reliability, I bought the original 1DX and my last shutter count was 750000.
    I also did some comparisons with the old 1DX against the new R5 & the latest Leica SL2S and Leica glass & to my surprise the 1DX sensor was on equal levels.I am now looking at upgrading to the 1DXIII and I’m hoping the sensor is as good or better than my old 1DX.

Straight to the point, you articulate your opinions very well and there's never any nonsense. Extremely humble, and I can appreciate that. Subscribed, have a great weekend .

    Hi, in your opinion, specifically regarding eye and face detection in live view mode, which is better for R6 or 1DX MKIII? I have the R5 and it's perfect. I ask because the 1DXMKIII is a little older (7 months) and I would like to know if canon used the same technology on both or if the 1DXMKIII was still a less improved first version? I was unable to verify this test anywhere on the Internet. Love your reviews

    • @samguw
      @samguw  3 года назад +1

      From what I've gathered using the R5 and R6 there isn't any difference in AF in those camera to the live view from the 1DX Mark III. even the tech is similar in the cameras so issues in my experience. Thanks a lot for the support!

    Proud of you buddy. I too had to save up for this camera. OMG man it feels insanely good to finally have this camera. I have the R6 too which is insanely good but I love the size of this thing. I use my cameras for videography and photography. I learned photography after I learned videography. It’s backwards but I have really come a long way. I purposely shoot in low light to master the light. Congratulations buddy. I’m not letting go of either camera. Reliability is Key.

    Intresting question going forward, I currently shoot with the 1dx mk 2, initially was gonna upgrade to the 1dx mk 3, love the grip and the way the camera performs, but now eos r 1 is expected to come out next year, so is it worth waiting and seeing for that instead now?

    • @samguw
      @samguw  3 года назад +1

      Frankly speaking, I don't really like shooting mirrorless. Specs wise, yes I think you should wait. But no mirrorless camera is going to replace a "feel" of a 1Dx. I think you get what I mean when I mention the feel. Its hard to describe but you know how it feels

    I thought it very interesting what you said about feel. So many times in the past when recommending a camera to a budding photographer, I would suggest one of the considerations to be to go and hold the camera. By all means don't make this the deciding factor, but at least worthy of consideration. I have always shot with the 1D bodies since switching to digital, and part of the reason was for the way it felt in my hands. I still get that sensation even now so many years later. Of course there is also build quality, and reliability!!

    • @samguw
      @samguw  4 года назад

      Yes!! I personally feel a piece of equipment should be something you enjoy using just as much as it is practical. I think sometimes what happens is people take photography as a job and it slowly fades their passion away. And having equipment that makes you happy and helps you enjoy the process I think is equally important. Of course, like you said, not the main factor (unless you're loaded with cash lol). Thank you for watching!! I really really appreciate it

    • @daknarr
      @daknarr 4 года назад

      @@samguw Interesting view, and one with which I happen to agree. I have seen the extremes where people almost only care about the gear, and then others where they barely know the equipment they use (not even kidding...one is a very accomplished NatGeo photog). As an enthusiast, I find the balance. The fact that I still use the original 1DX kind of illustrates that I don't need the latest/greatest (that or I can't afford it!!!), and my love of going out and shooting is only complimented by my love of the gear. My recent trip to Tanzania was mind blowing, and I had my buddy there to capture it for me!

      @@daknarr I guess to each his own. It's quite like motorbikes. Some really love them and just buy them because they like them and at best only know how to ride. But there are others who know everything about them from top to bottom. No-one is right, it's all about what you like in the end. I'm glad you found the balance! Do share the photos if you are able to. Would love to see them!

      samguw I ended up buying 1DX too, so I am with u. I just love DSLR over mirrorless. Just like the feel & nostalgia surrounding it. Like how my father and uncles used them. I feel that Mirrorless are just a means of taking photo. DSLRs are about the experience of using them.

      A lot of people are grabbing up the 2’s and 3’s like they’re going out of style. I just purchased a 1Dx Mark ii for 1,500 buck, with only less than 15,000 shutter count. MINT condition. The look you get from a R5 or, any of them really, doesn’t compare to what you get coming out of any of the Marks. Just my opinion but, a lot of people seem to agree hence, many are leaving mirrorless and coming back to dslr’s. I personally don’t care for the picture or video quality of mirrorless. It washes all of the patina away. Not as cinematic as the dslr’s. “Clearer” or “sharper” doesn’t equate to quality. Low light performance may be a bit better. However, for me, I think mirrorless is really worth the hype.
