The issue with RUclips compression is they will default to AVC1 compression (not to be confused with their new, superior AV1) for 1080p videos. You want to force it to use VP9 (currently there doesn't seem to be a way to force it to use AV1). Uploading at least 2560 x 1440 resolution forces RUclips to use VP9 (this could change over time), avoiding the nasty AVC1 compression.
One of the best GoPro settings/tips guide I’ve seen regarding compression! Thank you!

All 10 minutes of watching worth the time spent. No unnecessary words or wasting my time, great explanations straight to the essence of GOPRO. I subscribed (I'm very picky when it comes to subscription). Great job.
Nice vid. And good points too. I've noticed that the exposure issue like in forest where you encounter low light and bright light encounters frequently, the 12 and 13 are good at adjusting it when put on auto provided you've selected white balance accordingly. Just a observation
Thank you for the ISO tip! So many RUclipsrs are telling people to have it set to max and this made all my videos look super grainy like an old VHS tape. Great video!
Thanks for this, really useful and reassurring ! I now understand why my attempts at recording in a very low light forest on my Hero 11 today failed so badly! PHEW!!!
I have the GPH7 dusk white limited edition brought new few years ago. And I found that 7 camera is way better than the GP11 which I recently bought I did the same protune settings for both 2.7k/50 and found the 7 was so crisp and clear. 11 so grainy and to much motion blue I think will return the 11. I’ll do more testing before I decide.
I am facing this problem at different times and from different environments and lighting. Make the video bad There is no clarity. I've been trying to find a fix for many clips. This video was very informative for me. I'll put it to test. Thanks.
I was disappointed with the quality of my videos do to my videos been film in wild low light environments. I try filming shorts lowering the ISO the quality is way better 😊 great videos sir
I don't know if you have the same problem, but I noticed that the auto exposure doesn't work properly sometimes. Sometimes, if I film a lanscape then a person in front of the camera, the exposure stays on the background so my character is underexposed. On my camcorders, the exposure is always adjusted on the nearest object, but not always with the gopro
very well explained! Thank you I am so disappointed in my go pro footage some of it was even corrupt files i cant get back ever again! If you go skydiving and go pro corrupts your footage you cant get that agiain! I dont trust my go pro! I may even return it im so dissapointed go pro 9
One other reviewer set the shutter on his action 5 to 1/120 and shot at 30FPS. Normal, no night mode and his lower light footage looks insane. He claims that you have to quadruple the shutter speed to avoid jitteriness. Is that accurate? It seemed to work amazingly on his camera. Love your thoughts on that!
@@MountMediaChannel I’m looking for a small action camera, not for action, but for mall walking tours, city walks and walks at night in the city lights. My GoPro can do it but it doesn’t look great. It’s best in daylight, where it is very good. I was about to buy the ace pro but then the action 5 just dropped. Do you think the action 5 is a good option for evening and night walking videos? And mall walking? Or would ace pro be best? I’ve also considered the Go3S, because I love how small it is, but unsure if it can do low light.
there are too many compromises that must be made for the stabilized image to be of an acceptable level. I don't have all these problems with the Hypersmooth of the GP7 and I don't have to remember to make all these manual settings so that the image is stabilized. If these are the solutions that allow you to improve the image, for me, as a motorbike rider, it is impossible to find a setting that works for all scenarios (sun, cloudy, rain, shaded areas, etc.). I will definitely sell it and I am sure that the actions of other competitors do not have these limitations
my main issue with GoPro is having it batch my videos. My drift HD ghost cameras would run until the battery was dead, and it came out as one single file. This giant excuse that GoPro uses about the cards protecting my videos by splitting them into pieces is absolutely ridiculous and only a child would believe that, this is a choice for the user not the card maker or the camera maker. I can tell you I pretty much purchased my last GoPro thanks to them I spent half my time stitching my videos back together.
My footage is horrible. Hero 10. things are very shaky with the camera being carefully held, trees flicker on and off, one second there is a tree, then it disappears, objects are flickering on and off with a slow pan of the camera. objects apppear to jump in the frame with no relation to each other. like some objects appear solid and other objects jump around. I have clear video when the camera is perfectly still. but very slight movements and things jump around far more than they should. and Ive tried all the settings that are supposed to prevent that. there shouldn't be any settings to cause trees to flicker on and off like they are there and then disappear. camera is brand new out of the box. high speed sd card, played directly on my laptop, not uploaded. high bitrate, all the best settings.
I have a Go Pro 10 and I recorded 4K videos at 60 FPS and it is simply bollocks. I recorded a video in sunny day in 4K at 60 FPS on a tripod on ISO set to 100 and auto shutter speed (no other option was dark enough to limit the amount of light) and the image quality looks so grainy that it is completely unwatchable. I fee like I wasted a lot of money. I don't know how they advertise it but it seems like I must have given in to the marketing magic because the video quality is nowhere near as good as in their official marketing videos.
Agreed, I bought the 12 and deeply regret it. Even on a bright sunny day, 4k 60fps (Bitrate set to 200Mbps in labs) the blue sky is full of compression artefacts, it looks like noise but ISO is locked at 100. I'm an experienced videographer/editor so I fully understand all the settings and limitations of the sensor. No way it should look this bad, like real trash. Sure it would look great If I ran it through Video Enhance AI, but I expected to get something at least vaguely comparable to the GoPro promo videos. Pro tip: You won't. I still have an old Pixel 3 with Filmic Pro and it blows the latest GoPro clean out of the water. Yes, I know GoPro has the stability, but the image is laughably bad.

I use GoPro 12 for UW video. My iso was set to 400 but I had hypersmooth on. Many of the clips came out with very noisy video. My gopro is on a tray but not a tripod. Should I turn off the stabilization and just stabilize in post? Or can I manually set shutter to 1/120 (I shoot 60fps underwater) and leave stabilize on. I have some very good gopro underwater shots on my channel but this last trip was a struggle, I assume due to the new hypersmooth setting.
Do you have any tips for using gopro in and on the car. I want as little small vibration as possible. Without buying products for several hundreds of dollars. I would absolutely pay 100 dollar or so if there it something out there wich eliminate vibration even more then other products. Any ideas? 🎅

I don't like gopro hero12 bad zoom and If You want better zoom You Will need to Buy a new lens to upgrade that cost about $80usd extra. The battery no last said 9hrs and ran out of power in about 1.5 hrs. I Transfered the video to My phone and no video black screen just audio😢. What I did wrong?
Thank you for this very helpful video. QUESTION: At the end you say "pay attention to the shutter speed". Is there a way to tell what the shutter speed is? I normally shoot in Auto and with ISO set to 100 / 800. Is there way away that you can tell what Shutter speed and ISO the camera has chosen while your recording?
QUESTION: In your window show at 5;18, you talk about challenges with exposure, but didn't really talk about the jittery (large pixel noise?) image on the walls everywhere else. I see this on my GP11 a lot in theatre shoots which aren't the brightest lights. Large blocks and noise. Do you have any thoughts and recommendations on ways to clean that image?
I'm really new to go pro, I just got one and I want to use it for pov videos while I play soccer. I have a head strap for it and of course soccer is a lot of running and head movements. Any setting recommendations so I can avoid shaking?
I understand that HyperSmooth requires higher shutter speeds to be effective. Is using ReelSteady in post a way to circumvent this limitation and stabilize footage shot in low light?
How can I fix the green screen on my GoPro 9? I updated the firmware but no change. Now I'm unable to pair the Quik app with my camera or make any changes on the touch screen. Thx.
Hey, would you happen to know why when i record in 5.3k and download it from my gopro 11 to the quik app / save to phone the footage becomes rather laggy, stuttery and jumpy. It does it for abit then goes back to nice and smooth then does it again ect. I have a Samsung s20 which I thought would be okay with the playback in 5.3k seen as the phone can record in 8k. If you could give me any tips and setting changes I would really appreciate it. Cheers 😊
Why my video looks more bad if i set Shutter speed then if i let it to Auto. I see many tutorials that say the Shuter needs to be double the frame rate from what i see i loose light in image/video looks a little darker. Why is it so?
I was also wondering this as well. I even went as far as buying the polar pro NDPL Filter kit and it somewhat help but it didn't make that BIG a difference. so yeah at the end it's all about the lighting conditions, I also get overheating after recording in 4k60 or 5.3k 60 to try and match the resolution of my Sony Alpha A7IV doesn't come anywhere near close to it either lol!
my main problem with goPro cameras is having them split my videos. My drift ghost HD's never did that they would run until the battery was dead usually 4 to 5 hours, and everything came out as a single file. That is a choice to be made by the user not by the card manufacturer or the camera manufacture and it's just an excuse telling me that oh it's just how it is that's just how things work well that's a complete and total lie GoPro does this with chips so all it does is create extra work for me, stitching my files back together GoPro suck. I've purchased my last one.
I need your help and answer my question and be sure that your answer will help me. I am confused between the hero issued 10 and the version 11 in my country, the price difference between them is 850 pounds. The amount is available and this topic does not occupy my mind, but will I really notice a big difference between the two, or should I buy 10. As I said, the price difference between them does not matter to me, but I do not want to spend my money for nothing?
My gopro 12 has a lot worse video quality in lower light conditions than my hero 7, hero 12 produces very grainy video, I was very surprised and disappointed! Especially when I record fishing during heavy fog, hero 7 produces much cleaner image than hero 12. Dissapointed in gopro
with my GoPro7 i switched it on and the footage was great... i keept everything on auto and i liked it. but the 7 die´s now after some min. So i bought the 10... yeah -.- tha footage is sooooooo bad. i hate it :( i am not a Pro... i just need a Cam, switch it on and GO!! Go Pro is not my way to go anymore :(

@@lucyssolotravels8187 Hi Lucy, I'm really not an expert when it comes to the app. But what you could try is transferring the files from the Micro-SD to a Computer and from there to your smartphone. Not the ideal solution but then at least you have the clips on your phone.
Hello. I'm reaching out here again because I'm at my wits' end. I use a GoPro 11 camera primarily for my bike trips. I shoot videos vertically as I intend to upload them on Instagram. All the videos look great on my phone or in the Quick app. I record in 2.7k 60fps or 4k60fps. However, when I upload the footage to Instagram, the video is completely ruined. It doesn't matter how I export the video, whether in HD, FHD, 2k, or 4k. Reels always end up being of poor quality. Additionally, when I record with my phone in 4k 30fps, those videos look good on Instagram as well. Please help, as I'm about to throw this camera in the trash.
GoPro Hero 7 Black motorcycle ride videos off my handlebars. Two problems are overheating shutting down and sometimes I go to turn it off and message says Repairing Your Video which actually means it lost that footage. Thinking of throwing it away. GoPro help to me to reload the software which did not help. Any suggestions?
how do u set up a close up video?i just bought a go pro10 and i tried to record for tutoriAL art video i was using 4k standard with natural light outside and when i saw the video it was super crappy shots.😩
That is where you need Nd filters if you want to use higher 2x framerate .. without the Nd filters your video will be too white once your increase the shutter X2 of your framrate
Hi, as always great video. I got some question about RUclips render process. My "flat" gopro clip flying through Sony Vegas where I edit. When I upload it and have some footage in the forest, garden..... quailty of 2,7k clip drasticly fall - pixelate it. I am wonder am I do something wrong or YT video processing sux ? Someone gave me a tip - to avoid it - record in 60fps. I said - great idea but I cannot do this in low light conditions. I am looking for some gold solution for my chanell. Now my render setup is: 2.7K Max bitrate 50 and average is 45. Using NVENC which allowed me to avoid half of quality probem and speed up rendering process. I set up a render to HIGH profile and thats it. I am still not happy about output quallity after RUclips upload. Do you have some solutions ? Thx very much.
Not really - I don't use Sony Vegas, so I'm not familiar with the export settings. But RUclips will aggressively compress your videos after uploading. 60fps in my opinion is a bad idea. The only thing you can really do is to upload in a high resolution (4k).

Yes - this is image noise caused by high ISO - check out my video about the best settings in low light to learn more
Thank you very much, it's very helpful!
I shoot video in 4k/30 fps with gopro and edit video in 4k/30fps but after uploading to youtube why the quality is bad?
How to solve grainy image quality on go pro 12, specifically when recording in morning fog ? Thnku in advance!
Hi - there is a low light tutorial for the Hero 12 on my channel - check it out!
@@MountMediaChannel can you give me link please! Thank you in advance!
No. ReelSteady is still digital stabilization and requires there be little motion blur.
Great video as usual 😃
Thank you very much ❤️👍
I see the animated text lttle distracty & ilove ur overall work and vibe keep going i learn alot from u ❤️😀
So what should i use instead of flat?
Use Natural
excellent explanation thank you
How can I fix the green screen on my GoPro 9? I updated the firmware but no change. Now I'm unable to pair the Quik app with my camera or make any changes on the touch screen. Thx.
Hey, would you happen to know why when i record in 5.3k and download it from my gopro 11 to the quik app / save to phone the footage becomes rather laggy, stuttery and jumpy. It does it for abit then goes back to nice and smooth then does it again ect. I have a Samsung s20 which I thought would be okay with the playback in 5.3k seen as the phone can record in 8k. If you could give me any tips and setting changes I would really appreciate it. Cheers 😊
Hi mate, what mic do you use? Your link in the description does not work
Hi, I use a really cheap mic: takstar sgc-598 - amzn.to/3mQBKRZ
hello i record a video me working out and while reviewing its showing a fan spining shadow like a light is under the fan and spining how to stop tht?
@@joseluisruiz3789 The size of the sensor in the Sony Alpha is likely as big as the GoPro itself.
Very usefull and well explained advise!
my main problem with goPro cameras is having them split my videos.
Great video!
👍 the short version
I need your help and answer my question and be sure that your answer will help me. I am confused between the hero issued 10 and the version 11 in my country, the price difference between them is 850 pounds. The amount is available and this topic does not occupy my mind, but will I really notice a big difference between the two, or should I buy 10. As I said, the price difference between them does not matter to me, but I do not want to spend my money for nothing?
Check out the comparison on my channel - this will help you
so should i stick to iPhone 13 pro or use a dji Pocket 2?
Unless you really need gopro level stability the just use the iPhone.
Thank you 👍
THX.
Super Video. Danke.
So i bought the 10... yeah -.-
tha footage is sooooooo bad. i hate it :( i am not a Pro... i just need a Cam, switch it on and GO!! Go Pro is not my way to go anymore :(
Hey can I ask a quick question about the go pro ?? Hoping you can help
Yes, of course
@@MountMediaChannel I am currently travelling and have had no problems up until the last month, I’ve realised that when I connect through wifi to my Quick app and look at the media not everything is showing up, yet I can see the missing videos or photos when I scroll through the go pro camera screen itself they are on there just not transferring! I really want the missing photos and videos on my phone and I haven’t found any answers yet ! So thank you in advance 🤞🏼 😊
@@lucyssolotravels8187 Hi Lucy, I'm really not an expert when it comes to the app. But what you could try is transferring the files from the Micro-SD to a Computer and from there to your smartphone. Not the ideal solution but then at least you have the clips on your phone.
@@MountMediaChannel ok I’ll give that a try ! Thank you
My video is coming blur
GoPro Hero 7 Black motorcycle ride videos off my handlebars. Two problems are overheating shutting down and sometimes I go to turn it off and message says Repairing Your Video which actually means it lost that footage. Thinking of throwing it away. GoPro help to me to reload the software which did not help. Any suggestions?
To avoid overheating you can try to: 1. reduce resolution and/or frame rate 2. not connect to your smartphone
Sehr gut. Danke mein Freund!
Why is 5.3k lag so much go pro hero 9
how do u set up a close up video?i just bought a go pro10 and i tried to record for tutoriAL art video i was using 4k standard with natural light outside and when i saw the video it was super crappy shots.😩
Mine too 😢
very nice
I tried your tip of using 2x the framerate but my vids look too white, 5.3k 24 im trying 1/48 shutter, ideas?
when I use auto shutter it fixes it
That is where you need Nd filters if you want to use higher 2x framerate .. without the Nd filters your video will be too white once your increase the shutter X2 of your framrate
Nice one bro
@@MountMediaChannel thank you
@@MountMediaChannel BTW : Quality issue is not stricte connected to Sony Vegas but its overall problem of compression. Can you make some video about your render settings to YT. Thx.
Thanks 😢
I still don’t even know how to upload a Timelapse video onto instagram 😒
Nice
Bei consigli! 👏
Wow ................
👍👍👍
GoPro is beyond frustrating. This video didn't help.
Show me some hero 11 mini footage that has clear focus and does not have ridiculous halo sharpening.
No mostly hero 9and 10 bad photage better hero7 photage
Bhut khub
You had a great videos but your tone is very low. Sometimes I need to view back your video just to understand what you are talking
Ok - thx for your feedback

Thank you for this video.
Hello, I filmed with a gopro 7, and the card was full, so all the video-photos can no longer be seen, someone told me that they are empty, although I see that their size is 2,,,3 giga. I kept trying vlc, etc, you know how it can be done. thank you
Excellent video. Thanks
