I can personally attest to the longevity and durability of the orca. My wife bought me that same cooler for my birthday 6 years ago and has been on the job site with me every day since and still works like it did on day one. Yes it is on the heavier side but that will not stop me from buying another one. Bonus feature is it's made in the U.S.A.
Maybe but I read some reviews from the Igloo cheapest cooler and one person had left it in their vehicle for a few weeks and it fell literally into pieces. Yeti, I only worry about the strap and you can get a replacement.

Just bought a yeti 35 quart mainly to keep in my boat and take on trips. I LOVE that cooler. I’ve got quite a few yeti products and never been upset about any of the purchases.
I’ve got the Orca. The 40qt Orca is bigger on the inside than the 45qt Yeti plus I got it for $49 less. This is the most I’ve ever spent on a cooler. Very happy with the Orca.
RTIC is a great cooler. Got my 45 years ago and it is still my go to for roadtrips, tailgating, cookouts and kickbacks. Holds ice for days but can hold it wayyyy longer if you bring the internal temp down before you put ice in.
I just bought an Igloo BMX 25 and 52 qt. put a gasket around the top with 3/16 thick foam tape, works amazing, and I saved some money. I also use an old sleeping bag to wrap them up in.
Love my Yeti coolers! Bought the original roadie 20 back in 2016 and it has been a fantastic cooler. Made in USA model and now I have added a countless number of tumblers and just recently another cooler, that being the 35 and it's just a bigger roadie so longer lasting ice! Also a USA model! Great comparison! All the coolers do a fantastic job today so pick whichever one suites your needs the best!
Pelican makes a really great 14qt cooler...It holds ice for about. 48 hours, doesn't leak water if it accidentally tips over in the car (Helllo Yeti) and is feature rich- dry box, cup holders, bottle opener, and removable storage bins for about $100 bucks cheaper than the Yeti roadie.
Midwesterner here: we went on a road trip/vacation to Georgia for a week, spent 4 more days In Nashville. I never took the orca 75 out of the rental. We still had ice when we got home. However I have a sample size of 1.
At this size, get the ozark trail. Works great for me keeps ice for about 3 days out in the open. And if you get it on one of the Walmart clearance sales it’s 25-30$
Rtic Coolers are my fave. I've bought several over the years and been totally happy with them all. Really loving the lighter weight of the newer models.
I’m a truck driver and i have a small fridge on my truck. I’m looking at a small cooler just for drinks for more room that I can keep food to cook. Your comparison of these coolers has help me with which one to purchase. It will be the Yeti. Priced more but the quality and durability is more important to me. I use their tumblers for coffee and cold drinks with no problem. Thanks for this video!
I have a Yeti, RTIC and Kong. For anything under three days, I haven’t noticed any discernible difference. I think this is a key aspect for many (Not all), but I do not leave ice in a cooler for longer than three days, usually less. I never thought about the color affecting the temperature. I bought the Igloo BMX 25 and chose the hunter green and orange one because I thought it looked the best. Oh well, it's the nicest cooler I've ever owned and to me it looks as good as the YETI at a fraction of the price.
The Igloo BMX 25 by far exceeded all my expectations and the best value for your buck. Here's why. Most gear heads like myself, love our gears and I take good care of them. This is one reason why my gears last forever and is very seldom for me to replace existing equipment that I already possess. I don't abuse them nor do I mistreat and oversee their expectations. Equipment failures occur because of misuse or abuse due to the owners carelessness. A lot of times things breaks because of the owners lack of knowledge and mistreatment of his or her equipment. I would love to have an expensive Yeti cooler but do I feel safe leaving that in my car while I do my outdoor activities? No, people knows what Yeti looks like even when you cover them up, they know what to look for. The Igloo performs almost at par against Yeti and other expensive brand out there at fraction of the cost. My Igloo retains ice for more than 3 days, the only addition I did for my Igloo is gluing a flat rubber piece around the rim to make it airtight. I also cut a 1/2 inch Styrofoam to fit the inside diameter of the cooler to help keep the coolness from escaping. I've had my Igloo BMX for three years and is still performs like the day I purchased it. I figured it will probably last me another ten years or more before it needs replacing or not.
No Dometic Patrol 20 here? Just received one and is very similar to the old Yeti Roadie 20. Patrol sits in the front of truck (CFX3 25 in the back) and Yeti (11 years old now and still like new) rocks the garage and backyard duties.
One of yeti’s flaws are the lids warping. My yeti tundra 65 was less that a month old and I left it outside in the deck in the morning Sun, nothing too crazy and the lid warped badly. Thankfully their customer service is top notch and they are sending a new one out to me.
I will spend too much money on damn near anything and did once on a yeti cooler. Unless you are going out to sea for a few days you absolutely don’t need a cooler like this! Buy a cheaper cooler and spend that saved money on a nice pair of boots 😎
ORCA being made in USA is the true unsung hero of this video. Yeti's time has passed, IMO. I have a Yeti 35 and an ORCA 58, both white, the ORCA is absolutely on par with quality and performance - plus, made domestically.
I couldn't agree more,. Yeti revolutionized the market, but others such as Orca, Otterbox, Kong and Pelican are all on par, if not better in ice retention (other ice retention tests have them besting the Yeti). Plus all made in the US with lifetime warranties at or below Yeti prices.
@@drachenzahnOG Pelican doesn't have quite the same ice retention but it has the most amazing "you break it, we replace it forever" guarantee. 3 days ice retention where Yeti would generally say 5 days. Plus, the Pelican 20-quart cooler only weighs 10 pounds. Pelican costs $149 instead of the $199 of Yeti and Orca and Otterbox. Kong is more expensive than Yeti and heavier. Igloo breaks easily.
@@drachenzahnOG It depends a whole lot on which size and color you have. Staying within a brand. Yeti largest coolers are advertised as having 2 full weeks of ice retention. Versus their medium-sized coolers have up to 10 days ice retention. Their Roadie-24 only has 5-days of ice retention. A lot of people compare apples to oranges because they have a very large Orca and a medium Yeti and they don't compare the same. All of the coolers cost about $199. (Though Yeti on Amazon costs more. It costs $199 everywhere else)
Bought a Yeti Roadie 24 and liked almost everything about it, but the lack of a drain plug is a dealbreaker in real world use. Ended up getting an RTIC instead.
We play travel baseball and our Rtic works just as good as the yeti coolers other people have. It keeps ice just as long with the kids opening it over and over on hot Ga days.
Carl, this video was great. This should be the gold standard for comparison videos. Entertaining and informative at the same time. Straight to the point on what matters without the extra fluff. Well done!!!
Nicely produced, organized and well thought out video Carl! You know from my previous comments on your other videos that I am inherently cheap. Therefore...I would buy the cheap Igloo and drink the beer faster thereby eliminating the Igloo's shortcomings. Problem solved!
I highly recommend Kong coolers; they are totally made in the USA and most ice retention tests show they beat yeti and orca. I've been very happy with my kong 50 for the last few years
I would like to see an honest comparison in actual volume. Yeti is famous (or infamous) for not being the number they give. Also, a fair color test. This does have an impact from the sun. Lastly, Canyon coolers are awesome. My road trip cooler. Might want to check them out. I have the 22qt. And surprise! It’s 22qt unlike the Yeti. Who claims 24 but is actually 20.
During your test you had the coolers close together giving shade to each other, yet you had the Rtic on the end without shade. This for sure will alter the results for the Rtic negatively. I own a Yeti 20, Rtic 65 and a Hooked cooler 115. I would also add another important point in your consideration for purchasing a high cooler. It is timing the sales. All three of mine I purchased when they had very good sale. I would never pay full price for these coolers. For example I just bought the Hooked 115 quart (very large) with built in wheels. It came with a free $35 Tumbler cup and on sale for total of $399 (normal price $684). On sale I found the Hooked to be the best value.
Lol, someone else tested it, and Cabela's Polar Cap beats out Yeti/Orca etc. Do a few searches on RUclips and you will find the result. And here we are not including the Cabela's Polar Cap cooler.
Just so everyone knows, Grizzly Coolers makes a non bear proof roto-molded factory direct cooler. The brand is called Kenai. They are a lot cheaper than Yeti, made in the US, and come with a lifetime warranty. I got a Kenai 45 for $200 and it's simply awesome.
I wonder if the handle has something to do with the Rtic I’ve seen the none handle Rtic perform very closely to the regular Yeti hard coolers or better depending on the Yeti’s color
For Round #2, add Bison coolers into the mix. They're also MiUSA (Texas?) and are comparable to Yeti. edit: Also, most cooler brands like Yeti recommend you to preload your cooler a few hours prior to use with a sacrificial bag of ice to cool it down or store it in a cool place before loading it up. Otherwise, that first bag of ice will be used up cooling the cooler itself.
When you have the others you keep thinking. It’s nice to have yeti and you can resell it. Once you have the yeti you never look at others. It’s amazing how that works. And you takes care of it very carefully too because it’s expensive hahaha

i have a tundra 35. it was given to me like new because the owner didn't like the size and weight relative to how much it holds. i use the tundra on road trips and often that means outside temperatures over 100 degrees. i like the cooler and ice does last longer than cheaper coolers -- but a $100 cooler is close. i would recommend getting, say, an upper end igloo for 1/2 to 1/3 of the price if you are in the market
I wish I had looked for this a month ago when I was looking at coolers but it was just before the 4th. Ended up with 55qt Lifetime cooler to have in my truck for drinks and the occasional weekend trip. I wonder how that brand would stack up
Surprisingly it held up really good on another video I just watched. At least in regards to its ability to seal the melted water in. I’m sure you could find the video if you search “lifetime cooler” leak test.
The heavy plastic and insulation will hold onto ambient heat, I would like to see the results of this test redone with all of the coolers prechilled with a separate amount of ice before starting.
The welt is plastic. The leather quality isn’t great. Check out DevonReviewer. He’s reviewed the most major and minor boot company’s moc toe boots of anyone else on the platform.
@@rinzler5549 They aren’t a company I support. Considering Red Wing is an entry level boot brand with their heritage line, and Carl’s affinity for much higher end boots, I’m not sure what you would get out of this review.
I know it seems petty but the mispronunciation of Rtic by this author drove me nuts throughout. Maybe because I’m a loyal Rtic customer. There is no “C” in Rtic. Not Arctic. I promise I’m not a complete jerk. This video had great production value and was happy to hear the results. LOL.
You should try the ROVR cooler, many ice tests shows that it outperform Yeti by more than a day, not to mention, it works as a trailer for bicycle too.
I wonder if the narrow tall yeti design helps it retain temperature at the bottom of it. I have an RTIC 45 and 65 that I only bought when 20% off, I just don't see yeti being worth it because most coolers hold ice days longer than people need. For long week overlanding trips I got a dometic fridge now instead. I'm actually thinking of getting a cheap igloo Walmart cooler for day trips because rotomolded coolers are so heavy and overkill if you don't need more than 1-3 days.
I just bought an igloo BMX and it's just needs a drain plug. The handle is strong but will break if it's twisted/torqued the wrong way. I wanted to try the RTIC or reyleo but I needed one right away and the igloo also fit perfectly behind my seat in the Forester. Which the yeti would not. I would buy the yeti with an rei 20%off coupon if it were just an inch less deep. Add price of a sticker to hide the brand name.
I love my Reyleo cooler it stays in my Florida car and is swap a frozen 2 litter of water every other day keeping my beer and the kids soda plenty cold
Ive had all the coffee cups there are and I should have just bought the Yeti in the first place. The magnetic lid is awesome. If I didn't have a Grizzly cooler given to me Id buy a yeti for sure however........Buying a Dometic fridge/cooler makes way more sense for road trips.
Yes! I bought the Otterbox 25 after seeing other ice retention tests putting it and Kong at the top. It's held ice for 5 days with usage. I'd like to see another test comparing Otterbox, Kong, Pelican, Orca, Grizzly, Bison and a few others against Yeti.
Seems like there is one machine companies can buy making ten different molds and the dozens of brands pick the sides, top, handles, etc. it wants and slap their name on it. Only a few brands seem to be a good value while the rest try for the highest profit margin.
I got a monoprice pure outdoor emperor 80 (ridiculously long name)... Thing is awesome! Just as good as a yeti but only $159 for an 80 liter. Only catch is finding accessories.

I'd like to see a 70qt review with a pelican this time.
Holy hell, you're trying to make me go broke!!!
This is handy info, Thanks Carl
Excellent video with great information. I'd love to have a Yeti, but for as often as I'll be using a cooler...Igloo it is.
Absolutely! I just purchased the BMX25 after watching cooler comparisons.
Such an enjoyable review to watch. Wonderful presentation style. Thanks!
As far as ice retention I don’t think you can go wrong with the good ol Coleman Xtreme
The heavy plastic and insulation will hold onto ambient heat, I would like to see the results of this test redone with all of the coolers prechilled with a separate amount of ice before starting.
Good idea for next time!
Can you do a review on Rock Rooster mock toe boots, there 128 dollars.
The welt is plastic. The leather quality isn’t great. Check out DevonReviewer. He’s reviewed the most major and minor boot company’s moc toe boots of anyone else on the platform.
@@ianturnbow7011 what do you expect for 128 dollars smh.
@@rinzler5549 They aren’t a company I support. Considering Red Wing is an entry level boot brand with their heritage line, and Carl’s affinity for much higher end boots, I’m not sure what you would get out of this review.
I'm wondering how the Yeti was cooler the longer it sat?
I know it seems petty but the mispronunciation of Rtic by this author drove me nuts throughout. Maybe because I’m a loyal Rtic customer. There is no “C” in Rtic. Not Arctic. I promise I’m not a complete jerk. This video had great production value and was happy to hear the results. LOL.
What about Pelican Coolers?
I still have my coca cola Cooler made in the USA back in 1964 solid steel keeps my beer cold for a week
You should do a review on the Stanley insulated water bottle. I love your channel!
Great suggestion! I have a bunch of Stanley products I'm working on a video for, so stay tuned!
You should try the ROVR cooler, many ice tests shows that it outperform Yeti by more than a day, not to mention, it works as a trailer for bicycle too.
Why not review Kong Coolers?! Made in USA, great ice retention and better features. Just my opinion
Yep, mine are great. I also have an Otterbox that is great too and made in the USA.
What about kailani coolers . They seem comparable but low price . Havent seen any reveiws
I legitimately never thought about the cooler color.
I'm thinking I need a Yeti, but then I remember I still need to convince my wife I need to buy an egg grill.
🤣
I just bought an igloo BMX and it's just needs a drain plug. The handle is strong but will break if it's twisted/torqued the wrong way. I wanted to try the RTIC or reyleo but I needed one right away and the igloo also fit perfectly behind my seat in the Forester. Which the yeti would not. I would buy the yeti with an rei 20%off coupon if it were just an inch less deep. Add price of a sticker to hide the brand name.
Fantastic content... Thank you!
My Orca cooler has been amazing. Made in USA.
I'm all for made in USA, but those Phillo's aren't half bad at making them.
Great review! Thank you!
I wonder if he would include Orion Coolers the next time he does this. They are really durable.
what about hinges?
I have the Yeti Roadie 24, my wife loves that you can take upright bottles of wine
Should've thrown in an Otterbox cooler into the mix.
Yeah, there are a few I would have liked to try: Otterbox, Pelican, etc. I think it might be worth trying them in another contest against the YETI.
Was going to suggest otterbox also because they have some good sales around holidays and a ton of accessories too
Yes! I bought the Otterbox 25 after seeing other ice retention tests putting it and Kong at the top. It's held ice for 5 days with usage. I'd like to see another test comparing Otterbox, Kong, Pelican, Orca, Grizzly, Bison and a few others against Yeti.
For the next contest, I would like to see the Roam adventures 20qt or 45qt go through the process. 👍🏽
Seems like there is one machine companies can buy making ten different molds and the dozens of brands pick the sides, top, handles, etc. it wants and slap their name on it. Only a few brands seem to be a good value while the rest try for the highest profit margin.
What cooler is $1250, I wanna see that one?
well done review
Thank you very much!
What’s up with the USA made
Cordova Coolers?
I got a monoprice pure outdoor emperor 80 (ridiculously long name)... Thing is awesome! Just as good as a yeti but only $159 for an 80 liter. Only catch is finding accessories.
The old yeti 20 was a top tier cooler. A shame they replaced it with the new roadie version.
Fax I wish I would have bought one my buddy has it and the 35 and he use the 20 over it everyday it never leaves his truck
Exactly…. I wouldn’t change a thing on the old Yeti 20. Especially replacing the stainless steel bar with a cheap strap.
Great my guy...
What is the best safe box?
That would be a fun one to test out!!!
What about ice retention?
Thanks for the review... I'll take the pelican 😎
